God's Loophole #2

Eternity's End

Rate this book
Trapped inside a bubble universe the size of a broom closet, eighteen-year-old Raedyn Summers is running out of air and water.

At the former site of a defunct tech startup in Palo Alto, the earth underneath an abandoned warehouse is decaying at an alarming rate. Scientists are saying it’s a rip in the fabric of the universe. They’re saying it’s spreading.

Back at home, an inexplicable voicemail sent from outside the boundaries of space-time launches Gabriel Rockwell on a desperate quest to rescue the girl he loves from a death sentence in limbo. Fleeing both the FBI and the U.S. military, Gabe steels himself for a daring, one-shot attempt at “creating” Raedyn back into existence. There’s a hitch, though: the animals he practices on are all coming back screwed up, like they’re missing something essential.

But when Raedyn’s tiny universe—population of one—begins collapsing in on itself with her still inside it, Gabe must make a choice: let her slip into oblivion, or play God and create her again—maybe this time without a soul.

Just have to say... OH GOSH THE ENDING WHYYYYYYYYY....

---

In the gripping sequel to God's Loophole, Dan Rix plunges us into a terrifying time crunch: Gabriel Rockwell has to figure out how to get Raedyn Summers out of the bubble before she runs out of air and water... and before the FBI & U.S. military manage to kill him. Rae was ready to give up - until she inexplicably hears Gabe's voice outside the bubble and discovers that she's not quite ready to lie down and die just yet.

Rix weaves a complex puzzle as Rae circles through the maze of bubbles, trying to maximize the air she has left. (I admit I was too interested in what was going to happen next than to analyse the maze and try to solve the puzzle on my own!) Rae's not the only with a problem to solve - Gabe must learn to control his abilities in order to recreate Rae in the real world. Only, which world and which Rae is the real one now?

There's a cockiness to these two extremely smart teens that, mixed with the vulnerability, stupidity and resilience of youth, makes you start rooting for them and hoping that they'll get through to their happily-ever-after (well, or at least to just stay alive).

Looking forward to the third book, Heaven’s Enigma!

Note: I received a pre-release copy of this book as part of Dan Rix's mailing list.

God's Loophole took me on a journey I just couldn't put down.......and so did Eternity's End! I have been on a roller coaster with this trilogy from the start. Some points I hated to read about (deaths mostly) but I understand why they were necessary to the story. I love how the main characters of Rix's books (all of the ones I've read so far) have to figure out some sort of puzzle. I won't reveal any spoilers, I'll just say that Raedyn also had to figure out a puzzle with bubbles. I found myself writing it down as I went along with her trying to figure it out as well. When she finally gets the answer, it seems so simple. Gabe has to figure out somewhat of a puzzle as well to find Hsu and then to get to him, to know what to do next.

I also like the fact that, although the main characters, Gabe and Rae, are only 18 and do act 18 sometimes, they think and grow beyond their age.

Unfortunately, you (and I) have to wait for the ending in the third installment of this trilogy. Please hurry and get this written Mr. Nix. I NEED to know how this ends. :)

I accidentally stumbled upon Dan Rix's books with "Broken Symmetry" and haven't looked back since. The science in the books is real (or at least as real as we can get without advancing a little further) and is explained in a way that I can explain it to my non-science friends. "Eternity's End" picks up right where "God's Loophole" ended. Raedyn is trapped in a bubble carved out of our plane of existence and will run out of air in approximately 18 hours. Why is she in the bubble? For that you will have to read the first book in the series, "God's Loophole", but will she get out? That's up to her and Gabe the not a boy, yet not quite a man that loves her. Gabe is still here on our plane and is desperately trying to find and save Raedyn. But Gabe must also avoid the FBI who want him for their own reasons. I won't give away anymore of the story, but I urge you to pick this book up and see what happens. Be prepared to wail in dismay at having to wait for the third book once this one finished.

I had to reread the first book to catch up here but enjoyed this late into the night on my vacation.

Decent followup, though there is a bit of lag in it. A few things could have been cut to make it more action-orientated, but otherwise, no complaints. I'm still curious to see where the story goes from here, and what is brought back; however, the religious undertones give me pause and seem oversimplistic for the otherwise heavy/weighty writing that has built up the book before it was brought in. I'm hoping it doesn't continue in that vein; and that there are deeper elements at play there as we move forward.

This second book in the series was damn amazing. It took me awhile to finish it -- but only because I was very ill for awhile. As soon as I picked it up again, I couldn't put it down. It starts where the first one left off and it doesn't slow down from there. Because of the set up in the first book, I already understood a lot of the science at work so there was no need for me to pause and look things up as I read.

I can't wait for the next book to come out.

Awesome Book. I really enjoyed it. I had a hard time putting it down. This guy takes you on a ride with his imagination and makes it all so believable! I've read and really enjoyed all of his books but he is reaching further and further with his story lines and just keeps getting better and better! I am so hooked now!

I really got into this book. Like the first book, there were still some scientific things that went over my head, but I was still able to easily follow along with the plot line. There were also some creepy elements that surprised me. I really enjoyed this one!
