He's the last person I expected support from, but he's my rider. I can't be with him.
She needed my help when she was falling apart, when I was focused on only winning.
Can Sophia and Javi avoid the dynamic pull they have to each other?
Sophia Everett is a Technical Coordinator for a motorcycle racing team. She is living her best life, getting promoted and doing what she loves. Until her boyfriend dumps her wildly inappropriately after 2 years and then her mum passes away unexpectedly. Will she always feel this broken?
Javi Cordova is Infraction32’s rider and has the championship in his sights this season. Nothing is getting in his way of crossing the finish line as champion. Until he feels the pull of Sophia needing his support. Can he be there for her and keep his feelings to himself?
Heart of a Champion is a short and sweet sports romance. A light and fluffy romantic comedy.
This is not a dark romance or motorcycle club romance.
A palette cleanser for my dark romance besties. Or a low-impact, easy read for my time poor friends.

Heart of a Champion is set in Australia, with Australian characters, therefore this has been written, edited and proofed in British English with some Australian colloquial words.
Kris is a rookie indie author who juggles writing amidst the chaos of motherhood, looking after herself and staying somewhat sane.
She's been writing since high school but hasn't had the guts to publish. A lover of feel good vibes and moving stories, of course this was going to infiltrate into her own books.
Love on the Limit is the first series in her interconnected world of motorsport romance, with a unique writing style, she aims for fun, fast and flirty reads with characters who support each other, regardless of if they are the main characters or side characters. But knows how to write real jerks too.
*This world is set in Australia, with Australian characters and Australian vernacular.
I saw other ARC reviews for this book and it seems that most like it. I however did not click with this book. To start, the writing was like one long run on sentence of every single thought that was going through the MMC or FMC's head and it also seemed childlike how they were portraying everything.
Sophia did have a hard hand dealt to her, but it was a very weird way of dealing with it. Javi really had nothing going on with him, he was a very 1 dimensional character. The spice was not it, it was too frequent, and boring. Even the epilogue was uninformative. It didnt give us any insight into the future or tie up any lose ends. It was basically just a continuation of the last chapter.
All in all, the book left me unsatisfied and underwhelmed though it seems im in the minority. So please, if you feel differently I would love to chat about it!
A quick, easy read with short chapters, definitely one you could fly through!!
I liked the characters and really appreciated the way it touched on grief and how the FMC was dealing with it. That part felt honest and gave the story some great emotional depth.
That said, I didn’t feel super connected overall. The romance felt a little rushed, and the spice didn’t really work for me - it just came on too fast and didn’t have much build-up. I think I was hoping for more depth or emotional connection, and it stayed pretty surface-level.
Still, if you’re in the mood for a fast, fun romance with a bit of emotion thrown in, this could be a good pick. Just didn’t totally hit for me!!
37 chapters, 173 pages—get ready for a racy, sweet, and spicy romance. Except, this time, I'm literally talking about the intense, high-speed story of Sophia and Javi. Heart of a Champion is a book you don't want to miss, whether you're a fan of bikes and racing or not.
Paddocks, hotels, racetracks, dirt tracks, bars, restaurants, gyms, motorhomes, taxicabs, and, obviously, bikes—I felt like I was always on the move, closely following Infraction32's team, especially the talent and his team member, in a high-speed chase of their love story. Kris has elevated straightforward storytelling into an emotional tale of love. Javi and Sophia are united under a racing team outfit. Sophia arrives on the heels of two personal tragedies and a significant shift in her professional life. Javi, her secret admirer, doesn't want to wait any longer. He acts as a sweet guy, offering her space, support, sex, companionship—whatever she needs as she processes her feelings. They keep their still-undefined relationship a secret. The journey shows how Sophia evolves from a place of loss and vulnerability to reclaiming her personal and professional greatness. Friends, colleagues, and Javi all converge around her. Was their romance straightforward? What barriers did they face, and did they overcome them successfully?
Hop on, put your helmets on, and race along to find out!
The book is a quick read, and the author does a great job of showing just enough, guiding us through the story with brisk narration. The characters and motivations are well-defined. I could almost feel the energy, commitment, and dedication members of a racing team carry around, heads down, focused on winning championships. However, the story's focus remains on Javi's and Sophia's personal lives, and the author provides just the right amount of context and descriptive scenes to let us observe them from closer angles. I particularly loved the sensory details provided—the climate conditions, smells of the paddock and track, and Javi…he smells like watermelons? Yum! Kudos for the attention to detail.
I adored the spice, especially the buildup. There were also spontaneous scenes, which are always welcome in the right context—and they were. The scenes are consistently engaging in length, and there are plenty to enjoy. I love how the author highlights what's important to both partners during intimacy. Again, the sensory details and vivid descriptions greatly enhanced my reading experience. I also appreciated how the author subtly incorporated Sophia's technical connection to bikes into the spicy scenes—if you know what I mean. ;-)
The cute nicknames "Ace" and "Champ" made me smile—I felt a thrill every time Javi called her Ace. :-)
Javi, as the talent on the bike—his role and job were clear. I'd have liked a bit more detail about Sophia's job, though. Data analysis is mentioned around the halfway mark. Until then, she's mostly shown looking at data and readings, always on her laptop. Just a few lines clarifying—was she reviewing telemetry data from the bike’s ECU or other components, running simulations, or working with wind tunnels?—would've been helpful. These details would have clarified her role within the team better, especially for readers less familiar with behind-the-scenes racing. This isn't a significant drawback, just a minor suggestion from me.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and look forward to the next installment in the series—I'm sure it's going to be a zap on the track! I wholeheartedly recommend this book to romance readers!
“Heart of a Champion” is the first book in “Love on the Limit Series.” This is Kris’s debut novel and I thoroughly enjoyed this light and fluffy romantic comedy. Do you love biker boys and track racing? Into cute, cuddly and supportive characters who have great banter and red-hot chemistry? Down for Aussie characters and settings for something a lil different? Love a sports rom-com with a sprinkling of gut-wrenching tragedy? This is definitely the book for you and I am very much looking forward to next book in the series.
Sophie is Technical Coordinator for a Motorcycle Racing Team and loves her job. Her long term boyfriend of two years, Perry, is an Engineer for a car racing team. She is also very close to her mum - it has been just the two of them since her dad passed away when she was ten. Towards the end of the season, Sophie’s whole life is turned upside down - first Perry brakes up with her via text message, then she gets a phone call that her mum has had a heart attack. By the time she gets to the hospital three hours away, she is advised that her mum did not make it.
Javi has his eye on the championship this year and Sophie has joined his team. He notices that Sophia appears to be distracted and reserved since they got back from the season break. Completely different than her normal warm, bubbly self. Javi is attracted to Sophie, he cannot stop thinking about her. The feelings are mutual, but Sophie wants to take it slowly and for it just between them at this stage ….
“Her smile, such an easy accessory for her to wear. Luminescence is encapsulated in her eyes. Dammit, I’m going to be a goner.”
“He stops and turns to face me. “Sophia, I can’t explain it, but I feel something different with you. I can’t escape this feeling. Do you feel it, too?” He puts my hand on his chest over his heart, and I melt.”
You will fall in love with Javi and Sophie, they are perfect for each other. At times you will laugh, you will cry, you will even get frustrated, but over all, you have your fingers crossed that everything will work out for them. They compliment each in some many ways - faults and all.
I absolutely loved this story - I was hooked by the first chapter. I cannot wait to read the next book in the series! This is a lovely book that will keep you hooked! It has fun, laughs, intrigue, twists that you do not expect, and physical attraction. I thoroughly enjoyed this beautiful love story ♥️ From page to page, chapter to chapter, from cover to cover - you will enjoy this beautiful story! This book will not disappoint! Highly recommended 😊

I received an ARC of this debut novel by indie author Kris Monforte. It is the first of five in a series called ‘Love on the Limit’. This book releases on 13 March 2025. Word count: 56,000
Sophia works as a data analyst for a motorbike racing team, and Javi is motorbike rider on another team. Javi is hoping to win his next championship in the next season, and requests that Sophia transfer to his team.
I enjoyed getting to travel around Australia (Queensland to SA) while reading this book. The two main characters are sweet and sexy. My fave scene was absolutely the sexting scene – I haven’t read something quite like that before.
This novel is dual POV and written in first-person. There are explicit and plentiful spicy scenes in this book. Bonus: There’s no third act breakup, and we get a happily ever after.
Tropes: Motorsport Forced proximity Secret romance Emotional support
At times, Sophie and Javi’s internal monologue frustrated me. There were some phrases that were repeated within the next five lines where it could have been rephrased.
There are also some minor grammatical or syntax errors (i.e. cravat instead of caveat). While it’s unfair to compare an indie book to traditional published, I found this took me out of the story each time it happened. (nb some of these have been corrected since I wrote this review!)
I could have done without the sex scene between Sophia and her then-boyfriend, Perry.
I also think that there could have been more depth to the careers they each had, given that’s how they met and spent time together. Whenever they talked about Sophie’s job, it was very much just glossed over as ‘I looked at my laptop to analyse the data’. What data? Tell me more! I love a book where I get to learn!

I didn’t expect much from this book, but it pleasantly surprised me. Yes, it’s far from perfect and there are a few "not so great" moments, but overall, it’s quite good. What really hooked me were the likable characters. It was a pleasure getting to know them better — they respect each other, don’t rush things, are very understanding, and genuinely kind.
As for the plot narration — everything happened very quickly. So much occurred within just 20 pages that it could easily have been stretched to 100 with more detailed descriptions. The reader doesn’t have time to process the emotions before the story shifts gears and moves on at a completely different pace.
Which brings me to the next point: the emotional depth was lacking. There was barely any exploration of the characters’ feelings. Yes, some emotions were mentioned briefly in a paragraph or two, but the characters still felt like strangers to me. The author kept them too simple and surface-level.
The world-building was also lacking. Racing, as a theme, is fascinating — but the characters barely interacted with that world. It was mostly talked about rather than shown through action.
This book is definitely not on the level of top-tier novels, but I wouldn’t call it bad either. What matters most is that the characters were genuinely kind and humane. Surprisingly so, maybe not in the "right" way for some — but in this genre, that felt refreshingly real. So, for the kind and endearing characters, I’d give this book a 3. There’s definitely room for improvement when it comes to the details, though.
“Heart of a Champion” is an uplifting and motivational story that captures the resilience, determination, and heart required to overcome adversity. The book does a fantastic job of illustrating the mindset needed to push past obstacles and achieve greatness, making it an inspiring read for anyone looking for motivation in their own life.
Monforte’s writing is engaging, and the message is clear: success comes from perseverance and an unwavering belief in oneself. While the book delivers a strong and empowering message, I felt that some parts could have gone deeper into the personal struggles and emotions of the journey. A bit more detail in certain areas would have made the impact even stronger.
Overall, this is a fantastic read for athletes, dreamers, and anyone looking for a dose of inspiration. Highly recommended!
After finishing this book in its entirety, I really wish I had chosen to DNF .. it seemed to go no where but also all over the place at the same time. The break up, the death, the "hook-up", the accident, the ex, etc etc ... and nothing seemed to flow smoothly. I think the accident scene from time of the accident to them leaving the hospital was only a page or two long, so why even add that??
The smut felt really awkward and forced yet it happened just about every other chapter. Javi had almost no character development that he just seemed so boring whereas she was just all over the place.
Really enjoyed this, so much so I finished it in under 24 hours. This is a lovely romance between two people at the peak of their careers, who try to express their growing feelings for each other while pushing themselves to meet their own goals. I love how they support each other and push each other to be better. Javi is so caring and supports Sophia through grief and loss, and plays his own feelings down to give her the space to grow within herself and get to where she needs to be in her own time. This book is well written and engaging and just a lovely story about love and personal growth.
If you enjoy easy-paced romance novels that skim the surface, but never go deep on the drama, this is the book for you.
I loved both Javi and Sophia. As character’s they’re relatable, with relatable personal issues. I really liked that they both had a positive relationship with their parents and their existing friends.
Kris Monforte’s writing style is easy to read and flows well.
As a European reader, I had some giggles over the names of side characters, as they were genderswapped to how I’m used to reading them. Micah for a girl, and Shelby for a boy? Uno Reverse!
Snagged this book for the unbeatable price of absolutely free and cracked it open while my toes were living their best life at the nail salon receiving a pedicure. It’s a breezy, no-brainer read. Blink twice and you’re done. Honestly, I’m not even mad. The whole motocross romance angle? Chef’s kiss potential—but it stayed more pit stop than full-on race.
Needed a few more revs of the engine and less focus on the MFC’s everyday drama. Still, for a freebie, it held the line. Solid three stars and a personal petition for more dirt bikes in the romance genre. Let’s make that a thing!
A deliciously fast paced story reminding us that sometimes the exact person for us is right under our noses the whole time.
Set amongst the backdrop of professional motorbike racing, our FMC is a strong, independent woman who is the best at what she does. After a personal loss, she closes off her heart to love and focuses on her career. Unfortunately for her the universe has other plans and leaves the sexy Javi in her path.
Friends with benefits that are nowhere near as stealthy as they think they are!
I really enjoyed this one. It was a fun romcom with plot, spicy and real human troubles and trauma. I know some reviews of this book have been low and people DNF'd it but I don't know why. Its written in a way it's easy to follow and the story itself is sweet and just enjoyable.
The chapters between Javi and Sophie at times were repetitive but I understand the author was showing each character perspective. I will definitely be reading book two Clutch Start.
Side characters in this really made the story. Especially Rayna, Nikki and Dave. Also Fluer and Riley were favs for me.
This is a great friends to lovers sports romance that will keep you turning those pages. A strong debut from this author!

Javi and Sophia are goals!! I love that he is a cinnamon roll hero who is more than happy to wait for her to get over her issues, giving her an outlet but also friendship when she needs it the most.
This is a book that i could read over and over again. The connection between Javi & Sophia is amazing. Working on separate teams, a breakup, losing a parent, and then working on the same team. Javi gives Sophia the space when she needs it, but his friends and family encourage him to tell her how he really feels. The rest is history on the race teack.
3.5 ⭐ 3 🌶️ A quick sweet and spicy read. Check the TW. There are some tears, some laughs, and a whole lot of spicy scenes. Both MCs are likeable, friends are great too. FMCs ex can go jump off a cliff.
So very instalovely. Which isnt my thing. I tried to give it my best but there's more smut than plot and that kind of just ruins the book for me. If you like those things then it would be a good quick read. It's why I gave it a shot because it was a short fast paced read.
A great debut novel. A heartfelt sports romance set in Aus which was so fun to read. The slow burn, the friendship to lovers the motorsports aspect were all intriguing and I enjoyed the story.
