Neither expected to find love while exposing a conspiracy that reached the highest levels of power.
ADMIRAL
When asked to help with investigation into the murder of a colleague, I know I’ll have to recuse myself as mounting evidence is discovered my own cousin was the main suspect. Then, I met Alice Gordon—brilliant, beautiful, and determined to avenge that colleague’s death, who I learn was her sister. As we uncover a web of corruption that reaches from organized crime to the highest levels of government, I find myself falling for the one woman who couldn’t be less “my type.” With enemies closing in and trust in short supply, we'll have to decide if the truth is worth dying for—and if love can bloom in the shadow of betrayal at the hands of those we believed we were closest to.
ALICE
My sister's death was no accident. As a hacker who exposes corporate corruption, I know how to uncover secrets—but nothing prepared me for discovering Sarah's connection to the FBI and the dangerous game she was playing. Now, with help from Agent Pershing Kane, aka Admiral, I'm diving deeper into a conspiracy that threatens everything we hold dear. He's everything I never knew I needed—strong, protective, and willing to break the rules to find justice. But with corrupt agents gunning for us and a criminal empire that wants us silenced, our growing feelings could either be our greatest vulnerability, or our salvation.
Wow Admiral and Alice’s story is the best read! It’s non stop action from the first chapter. She’s a top notch hacker and he’s the FBI agent trying to solve her sister’s murder. When the two meet hold on to your hat as it’s 0 to 100 trying to keep up with all the twists and turn. How this all pays out is a phenomenal read! Can’t wait for the next instalment of this series!
Explosive and emotional with all the suspense you’ve come to love of Heather’s writing. Add a dash of Susan Stoker’s world and it’s a recipe for perfection! Admiral starts out with a bang and will leave you hooked until the last word as you ride along Pershing (Admiral) and Alice’s journey. This is perhaps Heather’s BEST work to date and an epic start to this series. I am so EXCITED and can’t wait to dive into the next book in Sentinel Cyber!
OMIGOSH! I absolutely loved this book!!! The characters were very well written, descriptions were on point, and again in my neck of the woods, Northern New York!!
I like how the female main character, Alice, was a little quirky but off the charts intelligent. She is feisty, stands by her principals and is determined to figure out what happened to her sister.
The male character, Pershing Kane, Code Name: Admiral, is an FBI agent, ex-military, protective, intelligent, loyal and HOT!
The two come together unexpectedly but for the same reason. Alice has her own plans until they get interrupted. But Admiral is there and well it all goes "BANG!"
This story if full of mystery, very intelligent characters, and is so well written I was clueless who was the bad people in this.
Another fantastic work by Heather Slade. I am so looking forward to more in this series.
Code Name: Admiral is the first book in Heather Slade's Special Forces: Operation Alpha/K19 Sentinel Cyber series (though I’m not entirely sure which of the two is the actual series title). This was my first time reading this author, and while the writing was solid, something felt missing for me.
Pershing Kane (code name: Admiral) is investigating the murder of his FBI colleague, Sarah Gordon, who was killed by the mob. Sarah was the sister of Alice Gordon, a top-tier hacker, and Alice is determined to avenge her sister’s death. The killer, coincidentally, is also Pershing’s cousin. Initially, Alice doesn’t trust the FBI—especially Pershing, given his connection to the killer—and leads them on a merry chase before eventually teaming up with them. Before long, Pershing and Alice become targets themselves (possibly by the mafia or a mole within the FBI). With help from the K19 Sentinel Cyber team, they work to uncover the conspiracy behind Sarah’s murder and catch the culprits before they become victims too. Meanwhile, Pershing and Alice’s attraction gradually develops into a relationship.
The book started strong, showcasing Alice’s intelligence and determination, but it quickly faltered due to weak plot and relationship development. The story unfolds over a very short period, and the characters barely know each other before they’re already thinking about love. Pershing, for instance, claims to love Alice mere hours after meeting her. There was no relationship arc leading up to this point. Then, from their first few hours of being forced into close proximity, they sleep in the same bed—but nothing happens. This continues until the 97% mark, when they finally come together in a lackluster intimacy scene.
Consider the lack of relationship development when one of Pershing’s friends says, “Don’t kid yourself, Admiral. She felt it too. Whatever this thing is between you—it’s real.” This, despite the friend (1) never having met Alice and (2) never having seen Pershing and Alice together. It just didn’t make sense. Then there’s the mystical angle, with Alice’s sister apparently playing a role in bringing them together. From beyond the grave. Pershing starts “feeling” Sarah’s presence and believes she’s “using him as a conduit,” despite never having met her in life. I appreciated Pershing’s alpha energy—his protectiveness and certainty about Alice—but the supernatural element felt like a stretch.
Pershing’s personality, for the most part, was bland. Alice began as a strong, gritty female lead but became increasingly passive as the story progressed. Suddenly, this woman—portrayed as one of the best hackers around, skilled with weapons and explosives, able to evade both the FBI and the mob, and self-sufficient for years—transforms into a shy, innocent virgin who balks at “being with a man.” It didn’t add up.
The suspense plot had potential, but too much of the action happened off-page and was relayed to the “command center” (Pershing and Alice). At times, developments were unclear, making the read confusing. After an exciting start, the rest of the story revolved around Pershing watching over Alice and receiving “reports” from his team, while Alice sat in front of her monitors hacking for clues. They didn’t do much, aside from taking regular sleep-together breaks where nothing of note occurred.
As I said, the writing wasn’t bad, and the suspense had promise, but the way it was conveyed left room for confusion. Also, despite knowing each other for a very short time, Alice was already (during their first sex scene) insisting they start building a family. That was off-putting. Then there was a glitch in the epilogue: Alice thinks they’ll be getting married in a month, only to—just a few paragraphs later—refer to Pershing as her husband and reflect on how marriage is built on small moments, like making sure her “husband” gets his coffee while it’s still hot.
This is purely personal preference, but I prefer steam in a romance, and that balance just wasn’t there. We got a few chaste kisses along the way, sure, but the book was too “clean” for me to enjoy. This story will no doubt appeal to readers who prefer clean romances. However, if you, like me, enjoy a good balance of spice and story, you might want to give this one a miss.
Alice is a homebody and rarely leaves home unless it is to meet up with her sister Sarah. They are all each of has left as their parents were killed in an accident a few years back. Sarah who is the oldest has always been there for her sister until she is murdered.
According to police reports, they say she died from a drug overdose, but Alice knows Sarah would never do drugs and she takes it upon herself to find out what actually happened. Alice is a cyber expert and will not stop until she finds out what happened to her sister.
FBI agent Pershing Kane, Code Name: Admiral is looking into Sarah's death as his cousin is one of the main suspects. He goes to meet with Alice and finds out immediately that she is more than she appears as she uses one of her many backup plans to exit her home without Admiral knowing.
He does catch up with her at her sister's funeral where Alice is determined she is going to kill the guy that is responsible for Sarah's death. Admiral catches her as she is pointing a gun at the person responsible, but someone else beat her to it. The Admiral's cousin who was responsible is dead.
So, together they look deeper into what is going on just to learn it's mafia related.
This book has so many twists and turns, bringing in some of Susan Stokers' characters. It is a wild ride, and I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
Great start to a new series. This book will also bring in some fans of Susan Stoker's Special Forces Operation Alpha world. Tex is a legendary Cyber guy who I've encountered in more than one book by more than one author. He makes cameo appearances in this book as well. Pershing Kane, Code Name Admiral works for the FBI. We did meet him in the K19 Security Solutions series. He was one of the FBI agents involved in that investigation. If I remember correctly he annoyed me in that series. But he's has redeemed himself here. Alice is out for blood, she wants to avenge her sister's death. She is a cyber expert who has back up plans for back up plans. Except Admiral drops into the middle of her life, and wreaks a bit of havoc. His protective instincts are awakened by this introverted cyber specialist. Together they embark on a journey to prove her sister was indeed murdered. However there are more questions than answers, a Slade specialty, where you don't know who you can trust. Well K19 operatives of course, but who in the FBI is behind this, and who is on their side? Look forward to the next book in the series
Wow! This is one book that will definitely pull you in from page 1 and have you turning the pages to see what happens next until the very end. I absolutely love this book along with Admiral and Alice. From the moment these two meet you can feel the attraction, but they don't act on it because of the danger Alice is in and the fact that Admiral's cousin is involved. As they work together to figure out who's behind her sister's murder things keep twisting and turning, giving us one heck of an exciting read. These two show that opposite's do attract, because they are definitely opposites, but they find a way to make it work. Their honest although difficult conversations about how they handle the investigation differently is quite refreshing. When they do finally give in to their passion, oh my. This is my new favorite book by Heather Slade, she really brought the page turning excitement to this read.
Admiral works for the FBI, although he's having doubts that he wants to stay, then he's given a file with a photo of Alice, the sister of Sarah, who was undercover as a FBI agent, something Alice didn't know anything about. He's immediately smitten with Alice, he's no idea why but her face calls to him. Alice is an excellent hacker, she's looking into her sister's death, it's being touted as an accidental overdose but she knows that her sister didn't do drugs, and anyway the amount in her system points to something else. She looks up the person she thinks it is and see a picture of Admiral, she's intrigued by him. Can they work together to uncover what Sarah was working on. Who's the leak in which department? They go to Admiral's place way out of town, with lots of K19 support. Can they find the leak before they are killed?
Unputdownable Romantic Suspense When Alice’s sister is murdered, she vows to uncover the truth—alone. Trusting others has never been easy, and trusting an FBI agent like Pershing is even harder, especially when the prime suspect is his own cousin. But as ruthless killers close in, Alice has no choice but to rely on him. Together, they unravel a dangerous web of corruption at the highest levels, making enemies on all sides. As the stakes rise, so do their feelings for each other. But will their fragile trust be enough to survive the danger ahead? This book is a fast-paced thrill ride packed with suspense, mystery, and romance. The twists kept me hooked from start to finish, and the chemistry between the leads added an emotional depth that made it even more compelling. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves a gripping, edge-of-your-seat read!
What a story this is. Heather has written a book that keeps you guessing from page one on who is the bad guy. This book is Book 1 in the new K19 Sentinel Cyber. However what makes Pershing (Code Name Admiral) and Alice’s story even more interesting is our return to the Adirondack’s and meeting up with old friends from the K19 family as well as finding out that Tex has played a role with Alice which you learn about. Pershing is trying to take down one of the largest crime family and Alice is trying to solve her sister’s murder. There is a lot going on within this book that has you saying what is going to happen next and you will be surprised at the end. Happy reading to all. Thank you Heather for adding this book to Susan’s, Special Forces: Operation Alpha Fan Fiction World.
Code Name: Admiral opens up another chapter in Heather's K19 world, connecting it to Susan Stoker's Special Forces Operation Alpha through the cameo appearances of computer whizzard Tex. Admiral and Alice are some of my favourite main characters to date and I enjoyed their instant connection and growing certainty of feelings. Yet their romance is not the focus of this book. The mystery and suspense surrounding the death of Alice's sister and the implications for both of them are. It's a rollercoaster of a ride with plenty of twists, turns and surprises that kept me glued to the pages and at the edge of my seat from the first to the last page. I can't wait for the next story in what promises to be the absolutely stunning K19 Sentinel Cyber series!
Admiral (Pershing Kane) is an FBI Agent who is asked to help with a colleague’s death, he finds out it’s Alice Gordon’s sister. Then he finds out the suspect is his cousin. That in there lies a problem because he always follows the rules. Alice Gordon is a hacker who exposes corporate corruption and wants revenge for her sister’s death. She finds out her sister has a connection to the FBI. Admiral and Alice get paired up to investigate this high profile case. Can he stay on this case now since his cousin was killed and it’s too personal? The connection between Admiral and Alice is instantaneous. A great love and thriller story that keeps you on the edge of your seat.
This book is filled with intrigue, suspense, danger and deep emotions. A world class hacker (mentored by the ubiquitous Tex no less) a by the book FBI agent, a mole within the ranks and corruption in the upper echelon of the alphbet agencies make this story riveting. Pershing Kane, AKA Admiral, is captivated by the redheaded Alice Gordon as she streaked through the cemetary during a gun battle. Keeping one step ahead of her becomes a daunting task because she routinely outplays him. They join forces to figure out the hows and whys of her sister's death. All the while becoming closer and falling fast. I think this is one of Heather Slade's best books and a fabulous start to a new spinoff series.
Excellent book! Get ready for excitement, intrigue and the exciting mind of a computer hacker. Alice was the best hacker known to the FBI, Mafia and Manhattan in general. She had her six computer screens, many crystals and yoga to keep her entertained for hours. She loved to dig deep into other computer systems and find the breadcrumbs that led her to hidden money, criminal activity and exposed corporate corruption of all kinds. The fact that her sister, Sarah, had become the victim of a criminal empire, made it a bigger challenge to find the guilty. In steps FBI agent, Pershing Kane, known as Admiral, and worlds collided. This is an exciting and fascinating storyline. I loved it and thank the author for excellent writing.
Outstanding! Secrets, lies, and corruption are all tangled up in romance and intrigue! Sadie, hacker extraordinaire, knows her sister Sarah was murdered and she is determined to find out the why and how. What she didn't expect was to discover her sister had a secret life that Sadie never suspected. Admiral is on the same case because Sarah's secret was that she worked with him at the FBI. No mistake, Heather Slade keeps us guessing, questioning what we think we know, painting characters in shades of grey. Are the bad guys the good guys? Are the good guys the bad guys? This one will keep you guessing! Fabulous read! Highly recommend!
This is book 1 in a new series from Heather Slade K19 Sentinel Cyber Series. It starts with strong characters that you can't help but fall for and we get to visit with characters from other books. I love a solid long series that allows a author inter mingle characters between each series and in multiple books. Heather Slade is one of the best and Her K19 World is a must read for anyone who hasn't tried any of them.
Admiral and Alice are both independnet people who believe in right or wrong. Can they trust each other and find the truth before it's too late? Sizzling chemistry and who dunit action.
WOW! Another fantastic story by Heather. This story is about Pershing and Alice. A tragedy brought these two together to solve Alice's sister's murder. Things get dicey as they get closer to the truth that her sister was killed for. Tex is mentioned in this book and he is the one who tells Alice there is a mole in the FBI. As we learn what Alice is piecing together, it makes things more confusing as to who the mole could be. The mole is kind of a shock but yet as we learn the truth, we feel this couple getting closer than ever. So glad they survived the attack and are now starting their happy ending. FANTASTIC job Heather! I would recommend this book.
This book was well thought out. The characters, the locations within NY, the construction of the goodies with the badies. The book outline could have been written within my mind easily as I read this book. It couldn't have been put together any better. Heather always out does herself, though as I read this book, I didn't see it coming til the last second. There is a surprise in this book and I can't wait for you all to enjoy it. Congratulations, Heather Slade, on another well written book. Code Name Admiral was exceptional.
What a great start to a new series! K19 Sentinel Cyber started off with a bang. Pershing "Admiral" and Alice " Cheshire" are at first a very unlikely couple. A by the book former military now FBI agent meets a robin hood hacker extrordinaire who doesn't like to even leave her home. These two find themselves falling for each other while fighting government corruption and the mob. Their chemistry is off the charts hot that you don't want to stop reading. Love the cameos from our K19 gang. Read this book to see how this new division starts and a whole new cast of characters.
I really enjoyed reading Code Name Admiral . FBI Agent Pershing Kane (Admiral ) is asked to investigate a colleague's death he never expected to meet her sister an off the chart hacker and the perfect woman for him . Alice Gordon had no idea her sister was a Agent with the FBI . Alice herself exposes corruption in corporations . Alice and Admiral soon find themselves digging for answers and uncovering corruption in the FBI . They quickly find themselves in the middle of danger . This story is outstanding full of suspense and romance . I highly recommend taking the time to read .
Another great book in a brand new series. You have one cool lady who can outsmart and hide and won't stop until she finds all the answers. You have one determined seasoned and jaded FBI agent looking for answers and the two of these characters meet and there is an instant connection on one side, but the other is afraid to trust. "Always together", loved that line. Admiral knew what he wanted and he went after it. Alice's character came out bit by bit and you could not help but admire her and what she's accomplished. I love a man who knows when he's found his "one". Great story.
OMG. This page-turner had nonstop action, including murder, betrayal, trust, and love. This twist and turn suspense involved a criminal organization, the federal government, K19 protection, and a hacker with mad skills. Pershing Kane and Alice Gordon join forces to find out who killed her sister. Instant attraction is put on hold until the case is solved. Will they reach their HEA? An excellent start to a new section of K19. Brilliant plot and wonderful characters. I highly recommend this book.
Code Name: Admiral is book 1 in the Special Forces: Operation Alpha; K19 Sentinel Cyber by Heather Slade and what a great start to this new series!
Admiral, an FBI agent is called in to investigate an agent’s death and discovers Alice, phenomenal cyber expert also wanting to avenge her sister’s death not knowing she was part of the FBI undercover. With a bit of the Susan Stoker’s world added in to this explosive, emotional, twists, turns, seeing old friends and so much more…
I voluntarily read a copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Wow! What a story! I pretty much couldn't put this one down, reading every free minute until I finished it. Pershing (Admiral) and Alice make a great couple, but I have to say that regardless of the chemistry they have, the trust between these two developed a bit quicker than I would imagine. I couldn’t figure out who the mole was, so I HAD to keep turning the page! Great suspense, excellent characters. A really great first book in this new K19 series.
The thrill of the chase is on full display. With every twist and turn, Slade holds onto emotions a little bit tighter. There's never a dull moment. Admiral and Alice bring the heat of temptation and the hearts of warriors. Code Name: Admiral is an equal opportunity thriller. Forget the damsel in distress, she doesn't need a hero. She can rescue herself, but she may lose her heart along the way. Rough around the edges, soft around the heart.
"Code Name: Admiral" (Special Forces: Operation Alpha; K19 Sentinel Cyber Book 1) by Heather Slade was a great read. I loved Pershing 'Admiral' and Alice's story. This story had romance, passion, action, suspense, military, law enforcement, twists, family, entertaining characters, and more. This was a terrific start to this new spinoff series. I can't wait to read what happens next. I highly recommend it to all fans of romance, suspense, military, law enforcement, and series.
Pershing (Admiral) and Alice are the perfect match for each other, she is strong willed and doesn't back down and when he knows something isn't right he will follow through. I loved how the danger was always lurking and at times nipping at their heels along with really not knowing who to trust especially for Pershing who was soo torn. I always love seeing old and new characters and this has me excited for the new series!
Pershing/Admiral and Alice. I loved the way their instant love worked with the connection and faith in the mystical. The references and inclusion of Tex always makes me smile and the story has a greasy blend of sad and happy. The sense of betrayal is strong as it plays throughout the story and the role of family has two different paths. It is a quick and easy read that I really enjoyed.
Admiral, Alice and the K19 security guys give us quite the book! Alice is a professional hacker is trying to find who killed her sister an undercover FBI operative. She discovers that her sister was trying to bring down one of the biggest mafia families. While doing her research she discovers that there is a mole in the FBI and it could be a high security level person. Lots of suspense and twists in this one!
What a captivating and stunning read. The blend of romance and suspense is smart and sharp. The story pulled me in and kept me immersed while the characters had me invested. Admiral and Alice had an undeniable attraction, connection and chemistry. An overall excellent read and a wonderful start to this new series. I'm eagerly looking forward to the next book.
