If you loved this book, I 'm sorry! In no way, shape, or form am I laying down judgment on people who liked the story. I gave this a shot, hoping to glean some insight into what these dark romances are all about and why they are so popular lately.

I was prepared to have to fight with myself, battling inner demons about not falling for the bad guy, the slave trader, the kidnapper, the beater of women and raper of souls. Turns out, I didn't have to fight hard at all. This guy was just a douche. Sure, sure, he was sex on a stick. And also a douche.

I just never found anything redeemable in him. For nearly the entire book, he abuses, assaults, and forces himself and all manner of degradation up on the heroine. So yeah, I need a good effing reason to forgive him. He likes to pinch her arms, rip at her hair, and throw her to the floor...he likes to lock her up, he likes to see her fear. Okay. But that's not romantic. At all. So I don't see how this can be a dark romance. There is no romance.

♦ “Twisting my skin, breaking tiny blood vessels, he drove me to my knees”
♦ “He drove another heel into my hip...”
♦ “His foot shot out, toppling me and the seat to the tile”

What seals the deal for me is that he actually starts to tell her that he's doing it for her own good. He starts to act altruistic, as if he's doing favors. It's just ridiculous. She's nothing but an American slut, and it's not even that she deserves his shaming and torture of her, it's that she will be better off for it. It was truly unbelievable. He never shows remorse for his actions, not once. Why would I root for this couple?

”Poor, fragile women appreciate what comes to them. They're easy to tame.”

The heroine, Celeste...she's so weak willed, her will basically doesn't exist. She was pathetic to start off, when her boyfriend and boss dumps her and fires her in the same breath. But I assumed her coming ordeal would make her tougher, open her eyes to a better way of living life. When she's captured, however, she becomes this horny nympho, writhing and wetting her panties, moaning uncontrollably. It truly is unbelievable. On the very first day, when she begins waking up from a drug induced sleep to find herself unable to move due to drugs, having her legs spread wide for pictures to be taken of her, touched in her most intimate places by strangers...but when Leonide walks in, she's a wanton hussy. I just don't think that would happen. Who would react like that? And it doesn't stop there...she is this way throughout the entire book. I was shocked that this was actually the way this was handled. People believe this? They roll with it? I guess suspend your belief, roll with the extremely horny twenty something. I've heard of hormones but good grief!

♦”The way he said 'whore' in that liquid accent of his, it woke my body; left me dizzy.”
♦Why did such an evil man own lips that were made for kissing?
♦ “Leonide was vulgar. When he called my body parts such obscene wrods in that heavy accent of his, I always felt a rush of excitement. I was worried for my mental health.”

Me too...

I assumed this would be a mindfuck sort of book, but it wasn't. There weren't any twists or real mind games going on that made me empathize with either Celest or Leonide. She was captured, he was her captor who proceeded to try to break her. And she let him. Pretty easily. I've really only read one other “dark” romance, and while I hated myself for caving, I quite enjoyed it in the end. I rooted for that couple, I felt that their ordeal made them good together. But there was never a point in this book that Leonide became likeable, nor was there ever a time in which Celeste was strong. I suppose if she's weak enough to allow her entire life to be ruled by a man who abuses, degrades, and humiliates her and gets off on it, then they deserve each other.

I felt like the writing needed some polishing. Other than the obvious, there were phrases and reactions that just felt off.
♦ “I'd always wanted smaller breasts, been ashamed of how high mine sat.”
Riiiight. Small, saggy boobies are often wished for.
♦ Also, she died her hair blonde, which was a big selling point for him. And she's worried about her roots growing in. All I kept thinking was...'not a natural blonde?' That would be obvious, considering she's constantly stripping for him.
♦ Another thing that was completely unbelievable was Whatever.

To be fair, I am not a dark romance reader. I do like heroes that ride the edge of unforgivable. However, I want them to have some small sense of remorse. I want to put the book down feeling like there is a reason for a happy ending, instead of hoping that they don't procreate. I want it to make me feel something spectacular. All I felt here was how hard my eyes rolled. I assume that authors who write this type of story expect reviews like mine. I think books like this take it all a big step further than BDSM novels. This is the opposite of safe, sane, consensual. This is dangerous, crazy, and unwilling sexual slavery. This is real, and it's not romantic. Maybe it will serve as a warning for any girls out there who go to strange hotel rooms in Vegas and take unsolicited drinks from guys they just met. I hoped for something more from this but I felt like it was too kitschy to feel genuine.

Only Pretend is a dark read. The main man in the story rides the line between villain and antihero. It was different than a lot of the other capture books I’ve read and I liked that. I would consider it a dark erotica read, maybe? Romance would be pushing it a little in my opinion. A majority of the book lacked in the romance department, but I expect that from most of my darker reads.

Celeste is a girl with no family and few friends. After a breakup, she decides to change. She doesn’t want to be that boring person anymore. Needing a change, she dyes her hair blonde and heads to Vegas. There she meets Mr. Tall Dark and Handsome. Leonide. He’s very charismatic and helpful to her. She never expects to be taken.

 photo c391c667-7e02-4d4e-9460-0333812636f3_zps0d06f92c.jpg

Leonide is a man in the family business. He’s been doing this for a while, and Celeste is just one of many. But there is something about her that is unlike anyone he’s ever met. She has this drive, this refusal to give up or back down. She is a fighter. The strength that she has carries her. No matter what her background is and how he explains what he can do for her, how it’s for the best, she wants none of it. Because it’s not her choice. She doesn’t need to be saved.
“Saving people from themselves. That’s what I’m doing.”

“You should let me save myself.”

 photo 45d3d95f-1b49-46d4-a82e-a039d2499018_zps6d18320d.jpg

Leonide isn’t a great guy. He is no knight in shining armor. He was cruel, calculating and cold at times. Many will find him unredeemable. I however, did not. There were tons of times he infuriated me. But by the end, I liked him a lot. He may have been a monster, but he wasn’t the worst kind of monster. As much as he tried to hide it and deny it, he did start to develop some feelings for Celeste. I think he liked her fire. The fact that she was different from all the other girls. He wanted Celeste in a way he knew he shouldn’t.
I wasn’t the type to be denied things. I also wasn’t the type to want something I knew shouldn’t be mine. But I wanted Celeste.

 photo 114d76df-c27f-4684-ae7a-76f739552ecf_zpsd00b8844.jpg

Celeste and Leonide together… there was a lot of build up. I love reading a story and thinking ‘this shouldn’t be hot, but my god it is!’ That’s how I felt about this one.

The one thing I really liked about Celeste is she was determined to live her life her own way. Make her own choices. She didn’t lay down and take the easy path.
"Yes. Choosing to die is better than living the life I don't want. Always.”

"Is death so glorious?" he asked, eyes wild.

"Not death." I wrinkled my nose. "The choice.”

I enjoyed the writing style. I wish the story itself was a little bit longer, especially towards the end. The last bit was very fast paced and intense, but I wish we would have gotten a little more. Overall, a really good read. If you are looking for a dark read with a strong heroine, a sexy as sin antihero, erotic, intense and suspensful- you might have just found your next read!

Oh my word Nora... Can I please get a signed copy of this one when you release it in paperback???? I am 100% certain that I haven't LOVED a dark villainous captor this much since Caleb in The Dark Duet. This was written so well... all the things, the traps, that I hate when some try to write this kind of story and fall into were avoided here. Celeste was a strong-willed woman. Though she had nothing and came from nothing she was a constant reminder that as long as we have free will nothing else matters. She fought Leonide tooth and nail from the very beginning. Even though she was most definitely attracted to the man, and felt a ton of confusion regarding some of those feelings not once did she stop fighting for what she wanted. Freedom to choose!!!

Leonide, WOO! I don't even know where to start. First, I'd like to say this book was definitely dark, but it wasn't dark in a gross or overtly brutal kind of way. It was more of a mindfuck and it definitely felt good. Leonide said and did cruel things but he also was a conflicted man... It was amazing how he was able to get a reaction from Celeste or screw her mind all up without even having to cause her physical harm at times. At other times, he was like a fucking demon, and it wasn't clear what exactly he would do with her. He was really complex and I am always amazed when I find myself feeling one way about a character and then feeling completely different in the end. Even though Leonide does make some changes, he also makes it very clear up to the ending of the book he is who he is. I loved that the best, because it would be unrealistic for him to change completely.

I just loved it. I was a fan of Nora Flite after I gorged myself on The Body Rock Series but this just cemented the "I will read anything you write" status for me... only a handful of authors are in that category for me.

Quote Love:

"Her words struck something in me, a statement I'd been slapped by... how long ago? I don't want to be boring. I can fix myself."

"I'm not those women. I'm Celeste Barstow... and you're a fucking demon."

"He growled in my ear, clawed at me not like someone in love-- but someone who hated my guts. I didn't care at all. Even hate was better than indifference; more satisfying than the man who had slid on a mask and could walk away from me after his dick had been inside my mouth."

* * * * * 4.5 Capture Me Stars * * * * *

Celeste is down on her luck after losing her job and boyfriend in one day. When her ass of an ex calls her boring she decides to show him. She takes the limited funds she has and gets a makeover…I would say this was unbelievable, but I am girl who has been through a breakup and yeah her actions are right on target.

Hell bent on proving to herself she isn’t boring she takes an impromptu trip to Las Vegas, and meets the sexy Leonide. He is my very type of male character: sexy, arrogant, and a bit of an asshole.

“What should I call the man who sends me an unsolicited drink?"

"In private, you may call me anything.”

Celeste and Leonide go to the room to “drop off her bag” and one thing leads to another…come on we have all been there…right? Just me?

The chemistry between Celeste and Leonide is instant, and this little romp is sexy as fuck! While fooling around Celeste begins to feel funny.

“I feel weird," I mumbled.

He left embers where his fingers scraped. "I feel it too, Celeste. Perhaps it's love.”

This just proves guys will say anything, because Celeste wakes up in pain, sick, and clueless to her surroundings.

That’s when the real fun begins….

What I loved…

Brace yourself…I loved Celeste…I know who can believe it?!?! I loved how she was so strong, stayed positive, and was a fighter. I loved how she was open and honest with herself and Leonide.

I loved Leonide…he had a dirty mouth, which I find irresistible. He was damaged goods…don’t worry I can save you!! I can’t go into all the reasons because it would spoil things, but trust me he is pretty damn irresistible.

I loved the writing! I devoured this book. One minute I was laughing at the internal dialogue or banter, the next I am swooning, or ready to slap Leonide. - loved it!

I highly recommend this book, but keep in mind there are dark topics that may not be for everyone.

4.5 Dark Twisted and Captured Stars

*ARC Provided in exchange for honest review*

This is my first experience reading Nora Flite, and I am now questioning why? I have found an author whose style and substance I truly love. If you are a fan of dark tales filled with suspense, conflicting fear and lust, and taboo romance then you will devour this read as I did. For you will meet Leonide...a man who may be a one of many among...

You will also meet Celeste Barstow who has no real life...no longer employed, dumped, and with no family she sets out to find a release from the "boring" label placed on her.

Maybe a change of hair color and little Vegas style fun with shake up her existance...only it catches the attention of a dark, sexy man whose presence overpowers her. Since Celeste is already "pretending" might as well go all the way!

What happens when you wake in a foreign land, stripped bare, and under captivity? What happens when the sexy man you thought would give you an unforgetable night has taken your freedom? Leonide is not a good man...he is predator...and now Celeste is his prey.

Celeste must learn to obey. She must become what she is not, An American Whore! Sassy, Wild, and Loose..willing to be what her buying hubby wants! Leonide is determined to break her like the many before,

Only Celeste is not going to break!

In a fabulous tale filled with power struggle and taboo lust, Celeste and Leonide participate in a dangerous game of wills. Leonide is one of the darkest characters I have read, and Celeste is one of my new fave heroines! Finally, a strong, smart and determined character who never gives up.

Her struggle for her freedom is epic and her "choice" as to what she wants is stunning. I highly recommend taking this journey as you will not be disappointed!

Nah sorry, this one didn't work for me. At all.

Basically, this chick gets captured and the 'hero' trains her to be the perfect submissive man-fearing housewife.

The hero is abusive, and not just in the whips and chains kind of way. In the bash-her-skull-on-the-floor kind of way.

The romance was almost non-existent and when there was some, I couldn't really believe it.
In fact, I didn't believe any of it. The apparent progression of Stockholm Syndrome was unrealistic. So was the whole hair dye thing; he's picked her because she's blonde, but it's been bleached. And in a week, no roots are showing, and of course no one has mentioned the colour of the hair that's not on her head. Heroine was weak, didn't learn from shit; kept on fighting him even though she knew he'd get her.

Last thing; a pet peeve of mine. Too many exclamation marks !!!!!

4.5 Dark, Suspenseful Stars!

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

Celeste Barstow has had the mother of bad days. She shows up to her greasy job at Jones' Food Truck and gets not only fired by her boss/boyfriend Jones, but also dumped. His reasoning...wait for it...she's boring. Boring? He gives her time to pack up her stuff, a few bucks for a hotel, and off she goes...jobless, boyfriend-less, friendless and no family. Great.

Boring boring boring

Celeste wastes no time in hitting the local salon, swapping out her boring brown locks for sexy blonde highlights, manicure, pedicure, and she's on the way to Vegas baby! Spontaneous but not BORING! She just needs to shed her old skin, live a little. To hell with Jones.. She's not boring, right?

It doesn't take long for her to realize Caesars is way out of her price range, so she changes into something tight and sexy and begins to stroll through the casino, bag and baggage. Taking a pit stop for a drink, she notices a man staring at her from a card table. Suit, tie, dark hair, groomed beard with stunning onyx colored eyes. She's taken back by his clear interest in her. He sends her a drink...

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

Celeste obviously isn't in the safest emotional frame of mind when she approaches this mysterious man. A few flirtatious moves back and forth and she's on her way up to his executive room to "store her luggage." Yah, right! His name is Leonide. He's got a beautiful possibly Russian accent...and he makes her feel ANYTHING but boring.. A few drinks in the room, the seduction begins...

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

Deeper, deeper darkness sets in. She's barely able to stay awake...

She hears his voice. A few distant words...

"Yes, I do love a good American whore."

When she wakes, she is no longer in the hotel...she's clearly been abducted.... Her prince has turned into her demon.
Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos
That's all you're getting. It seems like a lot but that is literally the first 10% of the book. Hold on for the ride!

Who is Leonide? Where is he from? What use does he have for Celeste?

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

I really enjoyed this darker read. It's not the darkest I've read by a long shot but if you're into a bit of dark, mysterious suspense reads, I highly recommend it. I don't like to refer to other books within a review. If you've read dark abduction-themed books, then this is within that plot line (how many times can I say 'dark' in one paragraph).

Leonide is not a good guy. He's a true anti-hero and it took me a bit longer that average for me to warm to him. The author waits until pretty late in the story to start to trickle feed his background...his true motives. It's mainly in Celeste's POV but towards the end we get his POV...which I loved.

Is it graphic? A bit but not bad. I feel if a book is tagged dark, a reader needs to keep an open mind and come to expect the uglier part of human nature. Only Pretend is not a hearts and flowers romance for sure. Do we at least get a HEA?

Why did I deduct a half star? I would've liked more meat to the story...50-100 pages more to get me a little more invested in the angsty details of the storyline. I was invested but not deep in my gut like I could've been.

This is my first, but surely not the last book I'll read from Ms Flite.

And I thank you,

This book was alright...but just alright. I didn't hate it, but could have done without it easily.

Having read the entire book, I can look back and honestly say that I didn't feel the slightest connection to either of the main characters. Celeste, our damsel in distress, is first introduced while she is getting dumped by her loser boyfriend. Off to Vegas she goes! Mission: Be Less Boring. Since I was pretty bored just reading about her sucky life, I was really hoping she'd spice it up as well.

To that end, being kidnapped by a mysterious foreign man that traffics women should raise the excitement level right? Only, she manages to get kidnapped by the tamest "bad guy" in existence. Seriously!?! This girl can't get a break! Honestly, when she finally makes a break for it and cuts her arm badly I was praying that she'd just die and put both of us out of misery!

I felt like I was reading a very mild, PG13 knock-off of Captive In The Dark with far less appealing characters and no emotional connection. If it hadn't been so short, I probably wouldn't have bothered finishing it. On the other hand, if more time had gone into character development, it might have been a better story. The idea was good, but the execution was lacking in my opinion.

I was so excited to read this coz it's a dark novel! I had so many novels to choose from but I chose this, coz who's gonna pass up reading a dark novel? well, not me!

Am I happy that I chose to read this first? heck no! it was kind of a waste of time...arghhh

Around 80% of the story, I feel nothing, I don't even like the characters, maybe a little but still, I'm almost done and I'm supposed to feel something towards them...but..nada..
This is a dark novel, abduction, rape etc. but the sex part is kind of lacking.

Everything was a blur, I skipped here and there. It's good go know that it's a dual POV, but Leonides POV started around 81% of the story, which sucks! It would have been better if we were able to read his thoughts from the very start or better yet, should have been better if this was written in 3rd person POV.

Advanced reader's copy received from the author in exchange for an honest review.

This is the story of Celeste whose boyfriend has just not only dumped her, but fired her from her job, telling her she was "boring".

Boring?! Hmmm, well Celeste strikes out to prove not only to him, but to herself that she's anything but!

On a whim and out of a place to even stay for the night, she colors her mousey brown hair to a sexy blonde, gets her nails done, packs what few belongings she has left and strikes out for Vegas.

Finding that she really can't afford a room in a high end casino, she slips into the ladies room and puts on her sexiest outfit.. one she's never worn before, and a bit of 'Vegas Baby' makeup, thinking she'll just make herself feel better, have a drink or two and head to a cheaper motel on the outskirts of Vegas.

Then she meets a very handsome stranger, Leonide.

He's charming and sexy and he only has eyes for Celeste. She sure doesn't feel boring now!

Celeste follows him up to his room, doing her best not to be "Boring Celeste" by pretending to be someone she isn't. But she finds that playing pretend can land her in some very real trouble when she wakes up in unfamiliar surrounding and she's pretty sure she isn't in Vegas anymore!

She's in a world of trouble and pretending isn't going to get her out of it!

I'm used to very dark reads, and this isn't one that I'd really classify as "Dark" or "BDSM" for that matter. I would put it more in the New Adult genre. Over 18 only for a little bit of non/dub-con and a few naughty words. But nothing over the top. I would have liked more than one short chapter from Leonide, he had the potential to carry the story to a darker realm.

Only Pretend is a good read and it's very well written. Solid 4 Star read for me.

It didn't work for me.
The romance aspect wasn't developed enough and everything happened to fast between them at the end.
Leonide wasn't alpha enough for this type of story and I found him lacking of charisma.

4.5 dark and sexy stars!

Celeste was just dumped by her boyfriend. She has no friends, no family, and was called "boring" by her ex.

Determined to revive her life, she heads to Vegas for a fun night and adventure.

There, she meets Leonide. After a steamy meeting and night, she wakes up drugged, confused, and told to obey.

Okay, so I really loved this one. You all know I'm a sucker for the dark.

Both of them were really good characters. I wish I had more of Leonide's POV though. (Only 2 chapters are his POV.) I would have liked to see more of the build up and evolution of thinking with him as I did with her.

However, that's not why it's not a solid 5. It's not a solid 5 because there are some elements and scenes that reminded me SO MUCH of the "Monsters in the Dark" (Specifically "Tears of Tess") and while it wasn't a straight up copy, it was so similar that I felt myself comparing. I *hate* comparing stories. Because I love Leonide, but he is no Quincy. ;)

Otherwise, it was fabulous. Embrace the darkness and enjoy! :)

I love non-con slave books and was really excited to read this one. I was expecting some exciting moments of forced submission and training scenes that set my heart to pounding but... I didn't get it.

Sorry, I can't even pretend that I liked this story. The slaver- oops- the matchmaker who is really only kidnapping women so that they can have a better life **blech and eye roll** was so conflicted and uncertain I was ready for the "groom" to show up and take her away so that the story would get interesting.

I really enjoyed this book. It certainly wasn't the darkest I've read but the non con and M/s aspect was good. It was well written and I liked the characters.

The plot is something I've read quite a few times over now; man kidnaps woman to sell into slavery, decides to keep her for himself. There's really no such thing as a completely original idea and I enjoy reading this type of story so the fact that I've read a few very similar books didn't bother me at all, in fact it's one of the reasons I chose it.

Overall this is a quick enjoyable read if you like slavery stories.

I honestly don't see how this book could get a bad review. It was well written and very easy to read. It was a deal when I purchased it for.99. It kept me interested throughout the book. I enjoyed how the Author was able to take the captor's torment to a mental level. Much of what he did was not so much physical but mental. I will definitely be reading more of this author's work.

He gives me things, but every gift is meant to torment.
ONLY PRETEND is not your typical romance. It’s dark-ish, but not terribly disturbing. Disclaimer: I read a lot of dark romance novels, so “dark and disturbing” are relative, but I definitely think it would be a great starter book for someone considering diving into the realm of the dark side of romance – it is totally delicious!

Celeste pretty much hates her life. Desperate to prove her ex-boyfriend wrong and show him she is not the boring, unmotivated person he sees when he looks at her, she bleaches her brown hair blonde and heads to Vegas.

When Celeste recklessly follows a stranger to bed, she wakes up in a foreign land surrounded by strangers and is forced into a life of sexual submission and held captive as she is prepared to be sold on the Black Market of human trafficking.

Leonide is beautiful and charming and totally dangerous. He has spent his life luring unsuspecting women to his bed only to “turn ‘em and burn ‘em” – turn them into what his buyers desire and burn them by selling them to (sometimes) evil and sadistic men.

When Leonide captured Celeste, he had no idea how she would change is life. . .

Celeste keeps her sanity in captivity by pretending her new life is nothing but a dream. Embracing Leonide’s unusual sexual proclivities leaves her conflicted and torn between what is right and what is very, very wrong.
Fuck—Celeste, I scolded myself, do not, for even a second, think of his presence as a gift. Nothing about him is a reward!
But without him, what did I have? No food, no water, nothing existed but me and my painful awareness of how little I could do. I was trapped whether he was next to me or miles away. As long as Leonide had me... it didn't matter where he was.

I was absolutely terrified that ONLY PRETEND would leave me hanging, but YAY! It didn’t! Please note that ONLY PRETEND contains elements that may be off-putting to some readers, such as, captivity, forced seduction, humiliation and some violence. If these are elements that you are not comfortable with, please proceed with caution, but if you can handle it, then go for it, it’s a great story that ends on a happy note – maybe she escapes or maybe she finds happiness in her new life. To discover what “happily ever after” means in this story, you’ll just have to read it to find out!

4.5 outstanding stars!! I was warned by the author that the book is on the dark side and to have an open mind. So of course, after that, I was all excited to dive into the story of Celeste and Leonide.

It begins with Celeste being dumped by her boyfriend after being told she was "boring". She has no family or real friends, so she's basically left with nothing. Her ex has graciously given her enough money for a few nights in a motel. Celeste decides to get a makeover and drastically changes her hair color and tries something she thinks her ex wouldn't consider boring. Even if only for a little while, she can pretend to be someone else. She makes her way to Vegas and that is where her life changes. She accepts a drink from a handsome stranger and does something that isn't "boring". The chemistry between Celeste and Leonide is instant but something tells her he is dangerous. After their encounter, Celeste wakes up unaware of her surroundings feeling sick and in pain. The story takes off from there and we are taken on this incredibly dark and erotic ride with Celeste.

I loved Celeste's character. She fought at every turn and refused to accept her fate. On the flip side, she couldn't help but be attracted to her kidnapper, Leonide. I hated him at first... I mean I was disgusted by everything that came out of his dirty mouth. He was a cruel and arrogant asshole. I cringed so many times as I read what he did to Celeste. Then out of nowhere, I started to feel different about him. I don't know how the author did it, but I actually started to fall for Leonide. What started out as pure hatred for the man and his actions, turned into me actually crossing my fingers that things worked out for Leonide and Celeste.

I loved every moment of this book. The writing is smart and the words were beautiful. I don't know how Ms. Flite managed to make me feel that way, especially given the subject but she did. The plot flowed nicely and there was never a choppy moment in the story. There was also suspense that filled the pages which had my stomach in knots. I only wish the story was longer! If you can handle the subject matter, then this book is a must read!!

STORY: 4 stars
PERFORMANCE: 4.5 stars
OVERALL: 4 stars

STORY:
If you are craving something decadently disturbing and depraved, this is not the book for you. However, if you're a dark erotica lover in the mood for a break from the more sick and twisted stories we typically devour, this may be the right pick.

I have read many books about women being abducted yet this one is different from the rest. It's impossible to explain exactly how this book is different without spoiling the story; all I can say is that it is nowhere near as dark as most stories of this type are. Although there is violence and some non-con/dub-con scenes, Ms. Flite found a way to lessen the blows so to speak. In the past, I've become enraged while reading books that only hinted at the supposed depravity of its' characters or while reading a storyline where the dark parts fade to black but that's not what happens in ONLY PRETEND. Without going the easy route by writing yet another Stockholm Syndrome style romance, Flite has created a story that is dark yet simultaneously endearing. Remarkably and admirably, she was able to do this without adding any unrealistic events or characters.

PERFORMANCE
Wow, what a phenomenal performance! Samantha Cook has got to be a trained actress as she seamlessly brought the female character and her story to life. She really impressed me and despite having listened to many, many audiobooks, I truly cannot imagine another narrator doing a better job of speaking as the female main character or telling her story. Although I was not overly impressed with Ms. Cook's voice while speaking as the male mc, I assume it'd be a daunting task for any female narrator to read dialogue as a male with a Russian accent! Besides, everything else about her performance was perfection! She consistently spoke with just the right amounts of emotion, volume, etc.. Ms. Cook is an extremely talented, gifted narrator! She is someone I will look forward to listening more of in the future.

I really liked this one! I am a sucker for dark romances, I love the kidnapped, stolen reads. There are a lot of other books out there on this subject and a lot of them are better. I guess no one can take Aiden and Caleb's places in my heart.

There are mixed reviews on this one, which made it hard for me to decide if I wanted to actually read it, and I'm glad I took the chance.

Celeste is down on her luck when after her boyfriend breaks up with her and kicks her out. She decides to take a trip to Vegas to prove to herself she's not boring like he said. she colors her hair and gets dolled up. At the hotel casino, she runs into Leonide

I really didn't feel much for their relationship, I guess I didn't get where it came from, and it was kind of sudden. I don't know if I could fall in love with someone who beat me and kidnapped me, but then again I read a lot of novels where I don't understand the lovers.

anyway, this book was really good. I would recommend it to anyone who loves dark romance.

Full review is up here My Book Filled Life

All Celeste wanted to do was prove to herself that she wasn't boring like her ex claimed her to be; she decides to step outside her comfort zone in an effort to prove that she's not boring. After a makeover, she decides to live it up in Vegas; it doesn't take long before she captures the attention of a handsome gentleman, but is he the man of her dreams, or her worst nightmare?

I loved this book; definitely a darker read than Ms. Flite's "Body Rock" series, but still a great book, one I highly recommend.

FIVE STARS
Reviewed by Sharon Thérèse Nuttall for Kindle Friends Forever

The author kindly gave me the ARC for an honest review. She warned me to have an open mind. I did! This is probably one of the most erotic dark reads which didn't shock me that much. This unusual story is absorbing from the first page and not easy to put down. I liked the fact that it’s a standalone immensely and it’s the kind of book I would take to the beach with me. It’s not too long or too short and even though it’s categorized as such, the sex scenes aren't overwhelmingly suffocating like in many in dark reads.

I connected to Celeste straight away. Her boyfriend’s stance makes her realise that there’s much more to life than what she’s been used to. Because of circumstances, she makes a brave decision which is quite out of character. For someone so young and inexperienced, I thought her plan was a great one. Of course, things don’t work out as they should and here we have a plot that will have you biting your finger nails!

Leonide’s business is far from legit. When Celeste has a chance meeting with him in a hotel in Las Vegas, she thought her luck had changed. However, this seemly suave and debonair man has dastardly intentions for this attractive young woman. Not only would she ever be able to envisage the outcome of their rendezvous, but it would also change her very existence. Celeste doesn't want to go back to being who she was before and even though he demands subservience, her strong character blossoms when she puts up a feisty fight throughout the story. The question is; will he concede and give her the choice she so desperately lusts after? The banter between the two protagonists is excellent, the very hot steamy moments are explicitly described and never let me down!

What amazed me about this book was the author’s capability of enthralling me with just two main characters. The secondary character does have an important part but he is mentioned more by name than in person.

Please excuse me but the one small thing that always niggles me are the Americanisms used in this type of book. Obviously this is a very personal opinion coming from a Brit but apart from that, this book is excellent. The grammar and spelling faultless, the plot original and I won’t be forgetting Leonide since he has become my new book boyfriend! Bravo Ms. Flite!

I'm not sure how I should feel about this book.....I cringed, I laughed, I cried...and finally heaved a happy sigh.

Some of the content was very dark and made for uncomfortable reading but I persevered because of the quality of the writing...I really couldn't put the book down...I HAD to know what happened next.

The main characters were very well written. They were complex and flawed not stereotypes or cookie cutter "goodies and baddies".

I loved the way the relationship between Celeste and Leonide developed with both of them fighting against it....although for very different reasons.

The ending was both satisfying and frustrating......I'd love to read the next stage of their relationship as I don't think it would be plain sailing.

A well written and emotionally powerful book.

Sin and Insanity and a hint of scotch; that was how he tasted
Surprisingly, this book turned out to be a nice read. I'd thought initially that it would be the same awful dark-read as the billions of other books that come out nowadays. Sure, the plot was similar to almost all other dark reads but there was something about this book that made me not hate it.
I think everyone should read the books written by this author purely because of her talent. She's amazing at weaving words into beautiful sentences. Her style of writing made me love this book more than anything else. I think Nora has a new fan now.
But, I do hope she thinks of an even better plot next time since the book wasn't exactly "dark enough" for me and it wasn't even that romantic either. The way it was written was excellent though.
Kudos!

What a sexy, confused, kidnapper was Leonide.
At the beginning you really don't know whether to like Leonide or not.
Poor Celeste, just because she dyed her hair blonde all this became reality.
I really didn't see the book ending the way it did. I had hoped it would but Leonide was so determined that what he was feeling wasn't real.
It was so exciting when you got to read his pov that Celeste was right, he did feel something for her, whether they were and obsession with her lack of will to do what he wanted or that he truly felt something for her, I was pleased when he accepted that he wanted her.
Even in the epilogue he was hesitant as to why she wanted to be there untill she told him that she loved him.
The big scary wolf had a heart and all he needed was someone to awaken it.

Eh...

Truth is it was just so kinda there. I wouldn't call it dark though it dealt with a dark subject matter and there was some smacking around... it definitely doesn't get your heart rate up with the sex scenes or the action. It was an interesting storyline but whatever chemistry these two had wasn't capitalized on. I felt like this story could've been so much hotter and in the end, the h came off weak and we're left with more questions than answers about the H. I wasn't impressed but I wasn't bored so three stars.

LOVED IT!!! Total 5 stars *****

Recommend this book for any fan of dark erotica.

I could not put this book down. I devoured it in 4.5 hours... It is that freaking awesome. You can feel the anguish, anxiety, and emotions fly off the pages. This would definitely be a book I will read again and I can't say that about too many books. I loved how Celeste proved that having the "choice" made all the difference, no matter what the circumstances.
