The Paranormals #1-4

The Paranormals

Rate this book
Jenny Morton was born with a powerful curse — she inflicts a deadly supernatural disease on anyone she touches. She spend her life isolating herself, following just one rule: Never touch anyone. For the first seventeen years of her life, she is a recluse in her small town, with no friend, and certainly no intimacy.

Then Jenny discovers that other paranormals like her exist in the world. One is a handsome boy with a healing touch that makes him immune to her pox—Jenny’s first love. Another is a wicked, manipulative girl whose touch infects others with feelings of love. She will meet a quiet girl who can speak to the dead by touching their bones, and a dangerous, charming boy who can raise the dead as zombies. She will meet another whose touch inspires fear.

Over the course of four books, Jenny must grow from a young, frightened girl into a powerful young woman ready to confront the supernatural evil in the world around her, as well as the darkness that lives within her own soul.

Overall good story. Some of the characters were believable, some, not so much, but it was still a very engaging tale, and I liked that it seemed to be a mash-up of several genres.

The author, though, is clearly a very skilled wordsmith.

Wow! I’m not one to reread books hardly ever. But I’ve had the 4th book in this series on my TBR list for years so I decided to refresh my memory and read the first three books again and the last one. I loved the first 3 books this time just as much as I did last time. So good! The 4th book took me a bit to get through just cause of the new characters. But overall a very good ending to whole series. Go read these books if you haven’t yet!! Like now...

A Virtual Reality

Reading these books is very much like experiencing a breathtaking movie series that brings the audience into an alternate universe filled with horror, romance, adventure and meaning. The characters become so real that they must be living on, even after the screen goes dark and the theater is silent.

I thoroughly enjoyed these books. Much more substance and back story than most of its genre. Characters are good and easy to love and hate. I would love to see this continued!

Amazing

I could not put my kindle down. Literally! I read through the nights, at work, home, while travelling. ..the books are great and the conclusion satisfying. No loose ends (don't you hate them) Definitely an adult read though. I'd say go for it.

!!!NOTE: This book series has intense scenes that may be too graphic for younger readers (the author has listed 18 and younger) who are sensitive to graphic content may want to skip this story and look elsewhere.!!!

I have read the first three of these books earlier when I bought/downloaded them through Barnes & Noble's nook reader. I really liked the first book, (per typical as a way to draw me into a series,) and the second book was good too. Third book is VERY dark, and DEEPLY disturbing. Wait...wait...let me back up.

Book #1: Jenny Pox. This is an absolutely great beginning to this series. I read it way back in 2012, and really enjoyed the uniqueness of the story and the way the characters were written and interacted with each other. It feels like a romantic story wrapped up in a scary horror story. But it works very well. Very enjoyable read. Definitely FIVE stars.

Book #2: Tommy Nightmare. Tommy Nightmare starts to show a little more grittiness in the series. But still, a love story is here and you feel confident that Jenny and Seth will overcome all odds. Again, it was a very fun read. Both books one and two were longer than what I normally read, but still read fairly fast and were enjoyable, if not darker. Delightfully darker, I will say. FIVE star book again.

Book #3: Alexander Death: Whoo-boy! Where to begin? This was a VERY INTENSE, and VERY SCARY book. But, dang: it was like watching a train-wreck: I couldn't look away! It was very violent and had heart-beating (and breaking,) themes in it and I strongly caution the faint of heart and kids under 18 from reading this book. It's wild. And...left me speechless at times. Because of the themes, I have to give this book a THREE STAR rating.

Book #4: Jenny Plaque-Bringer. I am so scared to read this book. I started it in October 2012, when I first bought in on my nook...and I still can't get past the first chapter. I have attempted to read it several times since I bought the complete set on Kindle in Sept.2015...but I'm scared. And stuck. It starts out very violent, and I just know there is going to be mucho death in it. I am working up my courage to finish this fourth book. I hope it ends where I feel I can safely tuck it away and leave it. I had hoped I could do that with Book #3 and I couldn't, so I'll have to suck it up and read this one.

Well, I did it! I completed the series...or at least through book four. And I'm so glad I did! Book four was written very strong. It reminded me a lot of the first book. The way Mr. Bryan wrote it, weaving past stories with the main story was well done and really kept me hooked into the story. Because how strong book one, two and four turned out, the overall series is rated five stars. Aside from book three, the overall series was well done.

Five stars.

'Jenny Pox: The Complete Paranormal Series' completely blew me away. The storyline was extremely creative and well written. The way the series played out was quite the adventure. I loved how the author intertwined historical events into the story. I received a great history refresher. The characters were a great cast of personalities and each one had an intriguing power. Jenny went through the biggest transformation from book one through book four. She went through hell and she still retained her sense of self. Seth was also an interesting character. I loved his sense of humor. Throughout the series we were introduced to the plague bringer, the healer, the love charmer, the fear giver, the dead speaker, the necromancer, the seer and the mind reader. I might have forgotten one, but I think I got them all. Overall, this series has been a thrilling read. I look forward to reading more from JL Bryan. A great add to your tbr list. Recommended read.

Supernatural at its finest

This book starts off with real life issues...bullying, not fitting in, etc...and adds in a twist. Jenny is unable to touch anyone without harming them. After spending most of her school years alone, she finds someone with an opposite power to hers...a teen boy who has the power to heal. At the same time, other supernatural forces are at work and soon, things get to the point where the town Jenny lives in is destroyed and she is on the run. After causing so much destruction, her life and the life of her soul mate just gets odder and more complex.
The whirlwind journey these two are on to find happiness and peace keep the reader fascinated throughout each book. Every book seems to get better and better, making it difficult to put the books down as the suspense and tension builds so high. This series is a must read for those who enjoy suspense, mystery, and supernatural forces at work. Jenny Pox is sure not to disappoint!

Love this series.

The whole Jenny pox series was highly enjoyable, from start to finish. I think it could also be adapted into a wonderful tv show or movie series. Have very much enjoyed the past few weeks reading it : my only slight complaint came towards the end of the third book, when the author insinuated that the essences of the main characters were what people worshipped as God. That seemed (to me) like an unnecessary dig at Christianity, but remove that and the books were near perfection.
