The Past Never Truly Stays Buried...Charlie Dalton is haunted by memories he thought he had long resolved. Thirty-four years after a traumatic childhood event, Charlie's life is once again thrown into turmoil when his best friend and business partner is murdered.
Charlie is immediately considered a suspect, and when lines between past and present blur, a web of connections is revealed which link Charlie to another missing person—someone he’d hoped the world had forgotten about.
As he grapples with anger, anxiety, and fear, Charlie must navigate a series of trials that test his resilience and determination. To protect his loved ones from public scrutiny, Charlie is forced to revisit the night that changed everything. He refuses to let his family be thrust into the spotlight as he was when he was eight. He won’t be transported back into that box in the barn.
An absolute thrill ride. By far, this authors best work. His characters pull you in and lead you into a world of lies, deception, and intrigue. The storytelling is masterful. Layer upon layer of twists and turns will keep you captivated. So much more than a mystery, it’s a story of a man coming to terms with his traumatic past and forging a truth he can live with in relative peace and clarity. The title is brilliant. I’m a huge fan of this author and highly recommend all three of his books. His ability to take you on a journey through the worst of humanity will leave you breathless.
I loved this book. At first you wonder how all the different elements that are being introduced can possibly come together. However, M.H.David is a consummate writer and brings the story to a wonderful conclusion, leaving you wondering how you missed the clues! A must read which I thoroughly recommend!
Wow!! What a book!! The first thing that hooked me in was the early reference to the movie The Land Before Time. May seem like a silly details, BUT... I loved this movie as a kid, so I felt immediately draw to little Charlie's world. At first, you see him as a victim, nothing else. But as the story progresses, with several other characters jumping into it, you get to see a more sinister side of Charlie. It's very intriguing. If I could sum it up in one sentence, I'd say that in this book nobody is who they appear to be and nothing is what it seems to be. I loved the way the author cleverly tied together so many different stories that at the beginning seem completely unrelated. There are secrets that aren't revealed until the very last page, and I would never have guessed most of the things that I learned in the end. I think that's what makes a good mystery great!! Kudos to M. H. David!!
Textbook thriller that will have you turning the pages as fast you can!!
Lie Ever So Quietly is a fantastic book with all the hallmarks of a great mystery thriller: a mystery that draws you in, well-rounded characters that keep you invested, plenty of twists and turns, and an ending that lands the plane altogether! David has a great use of POV that displays such strong characters each with their own motives and purpose. If you are a fan of mystery thrillers, this is definitely one to read! It’ll have you hooked from page one and you won’t want to stop reading until you figure out the mystery.
Absolutely loved. You think you know what’s happening but you really don’t. At the end, I had to ask myself “How did I miss that?” It wasn’t missed, it was well played.
MH David is now a permanent author on my to read list!!
Charlie Dalton is trying to give back to the community by building homes, nearly at cost, for low-income families. He seems like an upstanding guy (and he is, or at least he tries), but he holds secrets from his past that leaves him with emotional baggage. When somebody Charlie knows dies under mysterious circumstances, does Charlie have something to do with it? Is it his past catching up to him?
I enjoyed this book very much. The world that the author constructs is believable, as are the characters’ backstories. I particularly enjoyed reading about an older couple, Glenda and Troy, and their very unusual lifestyle choice. Glenda and Troy’s relationship is unique and, for me, brought a subtle humor at times, which I appreciated reading.
As this story unfolds, a web of lies, secrets, and things buried in the past come to light. And that’s one of the things that kept me wanting to read – to find out what the next page would reveal about Charlie, his girlfriend Kim, his daughter Ava, or others that you meet as you continue reading.
Lie Ever So Quietly was such a great read with lots of secrets, flawed-but-compelling characters, and a powerful ending as things come together. I was invested from the first pages and that never changed, as I needed to know what was going to happen next. All is not as it seems, and I loved that about this book! I don't want to say too much so as not to spoil anything, but it's definitely a recommended read!
A great read. The first chapter hooked me in with this mysterious death that left so many questions. Towards the end there was twist after twist which made me desperately need to know what would happen next. An interesting story with a variety of characters, some of whom had dark secrets. If you love thrillers you'll love this one.
I've enjoyed books by M. H. David in the past, but this one didn't get me excited to where I HAD to know what would happen next. It's probably me, but everything was meh. I would still check out this author, though, if you want thrills.
