𝐇𝐞𝐫 𝐔𝐧𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐇𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐳𝐨𝐧 is the 8th book in the Protectors of Jasper Creek series by Caitlyn O’Leary, featuring the must-anticipated, gut-wrenching second chance story of Zarek and Chloe! As fans, we’ve worried about them through other books as the crushing grief of two miscarriages ripped them apart and sent Chloe running in an attempt to find her center again. Now that she’s starting to accept her new normal, she’s realized that she left Zarek in the abyss alone, and his way of coping has taken a dangerous turn. Can their friends and family at Onyx security help sort things out before it’s too late? This is the journey I have been waiting for, and it was phenomenal!! I am emotionally drained though, because the raw authenticity of the pain in this one hits home in a very personal way for me. What a great representation of how unique the grieving process is for different people though! I certainly wouldn’t have put these plot twists on my bingo card when imagining this story, but I couldn’t put it down. I felt every nuance along the way. You can’t help but smile when the Avery sisters and the kids are on the scene, tissues are recommended for those highly emotional moments, and even when I wanted to shake Zarek in frustration, I could see the soul-deep love they had for each other fighting its way to the surface!! You also can’t go wrong with the small town charm that Jasper Creek always delivers like sage advice from Little Grandma, the riveting suspense plot, and yes, that amazing ending that has me rabid for Zoe’s book!! Check for potential trigger warnings, but don’t miss this book! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
In Her Unending Horizon, Caitlyn O’Leary’s eighth book in the Protectors of Jasper Creek series, we get the rest the story for Chloe and Zarek Post. Their origin story is in Journey to Sunrise. Bits and pieces of their ongoing story have appeared in other books in the series and now we get the full story. I usually read these books really quickly (they are consuming), but I had to put this one down a couple of times in the beginning. The emotions are so vivid and the pain they are both enduring is so heartbreaking that I just needed some time to process. Once I was about a third of the way in, I was completely captivated and finished the rest of the book in one sitting. This is a beautiful but poignant story about the impacts of miscarriages on individuals and relationships. By the start of this book, Chloe is staring to heal, but Zarek is still struggling while they are living apart. Zarek is showing self-destructive behavior and pushes Chloe away when she tries to repair their relationship. Zarek’s choices get him involved with some very bad people. As with any books involving the Avery clan and Jasper Creek, there is a lot of loving meddling and a huge extended support group. When Zarek’s actions bring potential danger to those he loves, the full weight of Onyx Security is brought to bear. In Jasper Creek, no one has to face danger alone if they are willing to ask for help, I’m a huge fan of this author, and I highly recommend this book or anything by her. I can’t wait to read Zoe’s (Chloe’s twin) story based on the teaser at the end of this book. I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Her Unending Horizon is book number 8 from Caitlyn O’Leary’s Protectors of Jasper Creek series. But it is also one of the most awaited one for me.
Chloe and Zarek were an enigma since so long. I wanted to know their beginning. And I wanted more. Ms. O’Leary delivered it. And with so much finesse and gentleness. This book has it all, emotion that makes you ugly cry, emotion that makes you jump with joy and yelp or fist pump, or do it all together like I did! I found myself talking to the characters of Chloe and Zarek. I found myself telling the others to do something. I felt the urgency and the helplessness that the characters in the story felt. I felt the fear when the suspense started. I felt the joy when they connected. I feel the need to describe all my feelings. And that is a mark of a very very talented author. Who makes you feel. And feel more than one emotion. I felt a whole complex plethora of emotions.
This is a standalone with a happily ever after within an interconnected series where characters from other books show up.
I first read about Chloe and Zarek in the Midnight Delta series, Her Dominant Seal, which is her brother Drake’s story. Then, I read about Chloe and Zarek in the next book of Midnight Delta, Her Relentless Seal, which is her sister Evie’s story. Then I randomly read about them in other stories from the Long Road Home multi-author series and as I read more of Protectors of Jasper Creek.
I loved them in all and I love them sooooooo much more now that I have read Her Unending Horizon! I’m speechless and brimming with feelings all thanks to Caitlyn O’Leary!! What a masterpiece!!
First off... To properly emerse yourself into this story you need to have read the following books First book where Chloe is a side character I think for a more immersive read, reading 'Evie and Aiden's' story from the Midnight Delta series - Her Relentless Seal You will understand what created Chloes situation.
But you definitely need to read Jasper Creek book Journey to Sunrise This book is the turning point for both Zarek and Chloe, both dealing with the grief that has shattered them. Chloe dealt with it by pushing Zarek away and leaving him to deal with her grief alone. By the time Chloe has come out the other side, Zarek has shut down and stumbled into the world of underground MMA fighting, at first it was to numb the pain, but he soon realizes that finding out more about the illegal fighting ring is more important, he's finally feeling something more than grief, but just as Chloe and Zarek start to reconnect, the MMA ring investigation puts both of them in harm’s way! This book has literally swept away the day, I have been reading non stop all day! I've gone through a range of emotions from 😭💔 to ❤️🩹🙏🥰, back to 😭💔 and 🫣😱❤️🩹❤️😍 then I read the excerpt for the next book in the series... Zoe's book and 🤯🫣 OMG 😱 I really need that book ASAP.
Once again Ms O'Leary has swept me into my favorite small town romance series, and I want to go back as soon as I can. I also need Little Grandma's full life story... She is my favorite side character of this series 😁.
We originally met Chloe and Zarek in the book Journey to Sunrise and their journey to each other. We also learnt of Chloe's miscarriages and her pulling away from Zarek isolating herself with her pain. Now we reunite with Chloe and Zarek, but things are far from easy. While Chloe has been away trying to process her own sorrow, Zarek is absolutely floundering. Watching his descent is heartbreaking—he’s trapped in a cycle of self-destruction, trading his career and his safety for the numbness of physical pain. Between his obsessive cleaning and his dangerous new interest in underground MMA fighting, you can feel his desperation radiating off the pages. Z arek’s grief isn't "pretty." He’s messy, he’s angry, and he’s making terrible choices that get him benched by his captain and his gym owner. You don't just read about their pain; you feel it. The author does an incredible job showing the helplessness Chloe feels as she watches the man she loves spiral toward a point of no return.
This is a powerful story about whether two broken people can actually knit each other back together, or if some damage is too permanent to fix. It’s a fast-paced, "couldn't put it down" kind of read that will stay with you long after the final chapter.
Prepare to have your heart broken and hopefully put back together. Highly recommended!
Chloe and Zarek have dealt with heartbreak, loss, grief. Worse - they've lost hold on each other - each fighting their grief, trying to support the other and losing themselves, piece by piece.
Chloe had to leave Zarek. Watching him try to support her, ignoring his own mental health in the process was almost as destroying as losing their babies. Chloe has always sought solace in her art but even that has dulled. But just as she makes a turn, when she thinks she may finally be ready to talk with Zarek she learns he's dealing with his grief in a much more...aggressive way. Underground MMA fighting. Her rock, her safe place is beating the pain out of himself. Fighting has kept him sane for a while now but Zane learns that there is much more to the circuit and undertakes to rout put the perpetrators. Putting Chloe and himself in the firing line.
Dealing with the trauma and heartbreak of multiple miscarriage, learning that your future is going to be differently shaped, that family comes in many forms and the multitude of ways in which grief can be felt. There are plenty of scenes with the loving, infuriating but overwhelmingly kind Avery clan and the greater Jasper Creek townsfolk. JC is the kind of small town you want - they celebrate everyone, don't care what you do, where you come from - just be a decent human being and they'll do anything for you.
Zoe (Chloe’s twin) story is kind of kicked off in the epilogue and I'm so ready to see what is in store for her!
Her Unending Horizon by Caitlyn O’Leary is an awesome book. This is the eighth book in the Protectors of Jasper Creek series, but can be read as a standalone. This was an amazing and heartfelt read. Chloe and Zarek have experienced some life traumas and are grieving in their own ways. Chloe has left Zarek to get her life back together. She is seeing a counselor and pours herself into her work. Meanwhile, Zarek refused to admit he was having trouble coping with the traumas. He starts MMA training at the local gym to cope, and ends up on the dark side of the fight world and possible danger to his loved ones. He contacts the guys at Onyx Security for help bringing down the underground fight world. While they are both handling their trauma in their own ways, they are still trying to get back to each other. This book had me crying, angry, etc. I had all the feels. This book has action, drama, heat, romance, firefighter, angst, trust issues, relationship issues, and more. I could not put the book down. The book is well-written and features very likable characters. I can’t wait for the next book by Ms. O’Leary. I highly recommend this book and the rest of the series.
Her Unending Horizon Protectors of Jasper Creek Book 8
This is Chloe and Zarek’s story and deals with how they are both struggling after Chloe suffered two miscarriages.
I found the book to be well written with an interesting perspective on the darkness surrounding Chloe and Zarek. Chloe, a Manga artist/writer, chooses to leave Zarek and take an apartment in Gatlinburg while Zarek, an EMT and fireman, chooses to fight, first at Cappy’s Gym then in illegal MMA fights.
While Chloe, with the help of her family and her art slowly comes to term with the loss, Zarek has not. He is grieving the losses of the babies, as well as his wife. I must admit I felt that Chloe was a tad self-centered, as she didn’t appear to take into consideration Zarek’s feelings at all.
The book has grief, danger, suspense and romance. The ending was one I didn’t see coming and was a complete surprise. No spoilers though. Will Chloe and Zarek get the HEA?
Having not read the previous four books in the series it took me a bit to become immersed in the story. I would recommend reading previous books in the series to understand all the diverse characters.
This was such an emotional book and I could not put it down! Make sure you have a big box of tissues!
We originally met Chloe and Zarek in the book Journey to Sunrise and their journey to each other. In Her Unending Horizon, much of the story is about Zarek, his feelings of being broken and could not get past his grief. Since Chloe left to deal with her grief, Zarek has been floundering. He has been working out at a gym, including fighting. In addition he has picked up a cleaning habit. But nothing is helping him settle. He is approached by a MMA recruiter to be in underground fights. He has been beat up, benched by both his station captain and the normal gym owner. He continues to self destruct. You feel his pain and Chloes pain of not being able to help him.
Can both Chloe and Zarek help each other to heal and deal with their heartbreak? Can Chloe reach Zarek before he totally self destructive past the point of no return?
This is a can't put it down, read all night, fantastic book! I can't wait for the next book with Chloe's twin Zoe!
If you’ve been reading the entire series, you’ve been waiting just as impatiently as I have to have Chloe and Zarek’s story, or the ending of their story. Although their original story is in Journey to Sunrise, there have been lots of things about their continuing story sprinkled in the rest of the series. This is the culmination of all they’ve gone through after multiple miscarriages and how they find their way back to one another. Both have unimaginable pain but Chloe finally sees her way through it all and fights her way back to Zarek. Unfortunately, he is still in the thick of his and it has led him to situations with some pretty bad people. Although this began as a way to get away from his grief, he soon decides it’s more important to get more information on the MMA ring he’s become involved with. When he and Chloe start to reconnect and danger is brought to their door, Zarek pulls in Onyx Security for help. All of our favorite friends are in the book, meddling and getting involved as always. You absolutely do not want to miss this story!!!
We finally have Her Unending Horizon (Protectors of Jasper Creek 8) the much anticipated and heart wrenching story of Chloe and Zarek. We know parts of their traumatised past from Journey to Sunrise (Protectors of Jasper Creek 6) and an awareness of their story and characters have also cropped up in the stories of the Avery Family. It was always going to be deeply emotional, two heartbreaking miscarriages tore them apart and Chloe left in a desperate attempt to find herself and survive the devastation she felt. As she slowly, slowly starts to reach out to the light and a new normal it becomes glaring obvious that Zarek is spiralling alone and his method of coping is self-destructive and dangerous. Their story illustrates how deep personal grief can be and no two people process it the same way. Be prepared it's raw, it's gritty and my heart bled for Zarek as he sinks so deep he is touching the point of no return, interestingly my empathy and heartbreak was far more for Zarek than Chloe. It's a powerful story of two people trying to find a way through bone deep pain and sorrow and heal themselves and each other, will their love survive, can they heal or is it simply too late? Powerfully written with an intriguing plot interweaving the emotional turmoil. Love the Avery Family and of course the other protectors of Onyx Security are involved. Highly recommended and now can't wait for Zoe's story with that teaser!
Emotions, action, redemption Any Caitlyn O’Leary book is going to be good, especially when we get to check in with the Jasper Creek crew. This one is tough emotionally though. Chloe and Zarek are so broken and trying their best to not break the other that it’s heart wrenching to read. I personally had a bit of a hard time connecting to their pain because the source of their pain is something I can’t relate, but their emotions were so well expressed that I got it. The action part was my favorite part of the story, although for the first quarter I really wanted to smack Zarek. A good book, but maybe not one to return to often, it’s hard emotionally to read. Anyone who has experienced similar pain to Chloe and Zarek would likely have a difficult time with this one. The teaser at the end though, I’m really looking forward to Zoe and Adam! I received an ARC and voluntarily left this review.
The story of Chloe and Zarek is not for the faint of heart. The miscarriages suffered by Chloe has broken this couple. The pain, the feeling of worthlessness and total loss can be felt by the readers. Chloe’s form of survival is leaving Zarek behind to deal with her pain. While Zarek self destructs by participating in underground fights. It seems there is no end to their sorrow as they seem unable to deal with it. But what happens when danger seems to reaches Chloe. Can Zarek protect Chloe? In the end, can these two realize that their love makes them stronger? The story was heartfelt. As someone who dealt with the other end of the spectrum, infertility, the loss and is real as is questions of self-worth. The author delivered another winner in the series. I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
Her Unending Horizon by Caitlyn O’Leary was a deeply emotional and rewarding read. Having met Chloe and Zarek in several previous books in the series, it was a pleasure to finally catch up with them and see their story take centre stage.
This novel beautifully explores how even the strongest, most loving relationships can be torn apart by differing ways of processing grief. Watching Zarek fight his way back from a path of self-destruction was heartbreaking and powerful, making for an emotionally charged journey.
Caitlyn O’Leary has crafted a compelling story that skilfully blends heartfelt romance with suspense and excitement. The emotional depth kept me invested from beginning to end, and the tantalising hint of what’s to come in the next book left me eagerly awaiting the continuation of the series.
Zarek and Chloe's story is so authentic and emotional that you won't want to put it down. Their story has been touched on in earlier Protectors of Jasper Creek stories but now we get to read how 2 people handle tragic situations and come out stronger. Everyone goes through the grieving process differently. Chloe's is to leave Jasper Creek to find herself and grieve the loss of two pregnancies. Zarek, wants her home but understands that she needs to do this. Soon we see Zarek spiraling to a point where he is doing dangerous things and it is effecting his job. So many times we see how the woman handles grief and not the man. Caitlyn takes us on a journey of both. It is insightful, sad, glorious and joyful with action thrown in as only Caitlyn can do. A beautiful story of family coming together. Caitlyn gives us a sneak peak at Zoe's story that will have you chomping at the bit to read.
I have been waiting for this book since I started the series, and I wasn't disappointed. Chloe and Zarek have loved each other since they were teenagers but 2 miscarriages have put them both into a depression and pushed them apart from each other. Their love hasn't changed but they are living a part and both miserable, but neither one is sure how to bridge the gap and get the marriage they once had back. Zarek starts fighting in the gym and from there goes on to fight in cages, Chloe is worried about him and tries to get him to stop, bringing them closer together and helping them to finally bridge the gap and start talking. The book is so realistic and goes through problems that many couples face and shows that you can over come anything if you really love each other and want to make things work. From start to finish you feel their pain and their love and you won't regret reading it.
The one thing Caitlyn O'Leary does not deliver is boring, fluffy romances. Her stories have depth and often touch on serious issues. Chloe and Zarek's story will resonate with many readers who have experienced the knocks to a relationship of losing someone, especially a child. Sometimes love alone is not enough, no matter how strong the feelings and the support from family and friends. Sometimes it requires a concious choice not to let the grief and depression take over. And then it requires strength to fight for what you want.
This is an emotional journey for the characters. The one thing Caitlyn O'Leary does guarantee is a HEA and I am so glad that Chloe and Zarek got theirs. Thoroughly enjoyable.
This book was given to me for free at my request and I voluntarily provided this review
This one really tug at the heartstrings for me having been through infertility issues myself. My read on this story was it was more about Zerek's coming to terms & healing than Chloe's ~ maybe because Chloe has been in the other stories leading up to this one. They each were just going about their coping in different ways. I found myself sadden by their prior losses & grief, then very anxious with the road that Zerek chose to go down UNTIL he decided he needed to step up & find some justice in the arena he found himself in. From being childhood Sweethearts, getting married, suffering losses, finding justice to finding their way back to each other ~ it was a great journey Caitlyn! And then there's Zoe . . . . she offers the gift of all time to them. Way to hook us into anxiously waiting for her book.
What an amazing story! Zarek and Chloe have been in love since grade school. Through ups and downs and life’s challenges and darknest moments they are there for each other until life gets complicated and both lose themselves to their own darkness. As Chloe starts regaining herself she realizes Zarek has not but how to be there for him is the question. When Zarek finds himself in a dark situation he turns to Onyx Security to help him but in doing so marks Chloe as a target. Can he get the happy ever after he realizes they both want? This book has it all. Tears, laughter, intrigue and suspense that will have you reading late into the night. Loved the storytelling within a story. Caitlyn O’Leary this is truly an outstanding book. 5+ stars.
I knew I was going to need my tissues close by for this book and I wasn't wrong. I do suggest that you be honest with yourself if reading about pregnancy loss is something that is triggering. This was very well written and a more realistic look at grief. Chloe and Zarek love each other deeply, but grief and loss have left them both struggling and trying to find ways to cope. Zarek starts doing MMA to cope which leads him to meet some nefarious people. While battling through grief they now have danger on another front. I loved this book even though I cried a lot. If a couple ever deserved a HEA it was these two. Sometimes you just need someone to show up for you and remind you that you are enough!
After two devastating losses Chloe is struggling to heal and instead of it bringing her closer to Zarek it drives them apart. Her decision to leave was difficult but she believed it was the only choice she had however while she may be making strides forward the same can’t be said for Zarek.
Zarek is struggling and looking for an outlet to deal with the emotions he is feeling and Chloe leaving. His decision to train in MMA fighting began as an outlet for his pain however that decision has not only placed him in danger but Chloe as well.
Chloe and Zarek take us on an emotional and action filled journey that is both heart wrenching and inspirational as they fight for their love and each other as after everything they have been through there is no one more deserving of happiness.
This book is hands down, one of the best that Caitlyn O'Leary has written to date. I don't say things like that lightly. I read this book in one sitting. I laughed and ugly cried in some places. I love all of the couples of Jasper Creek. However, Chloe and Zarek are my absolute favorite. They have been friends since elementary school. They have always been there for each other. Their love for each other seemed unshakable, until the last curve life threw at them seemed insurmountable. Hurt so deep and soul crushing, they didn't see any way past it. They love each other but, is love enough? Get this book ASAP and find out how or if they succeed in finding their way back to each other. Sorry, no spoilers.
Suffering from the loss of a baby is difficult to say the least, and coming to terms with this is a Herculean feat, especially when Chloe and Zarek have different ways of dealing with their loss, she choose writing and drawing a book, and he chooses cleaning the home they don't share currently, and MMA fighting in a local gym, right reasons wrong outcome with fighting your demons, Caitlyn O'Leary you have made me cry, ugly cry at times, laugh out loud at work at 2am reading, what a beautiful emotional story of life and death, hair raising, breath holding family love, and the good guys won, getting to see old friends again, thank you again, Dana banana Zamora
I couldn't wait for Chloe and Zarek's HEA! I wasn't disappointed in the least. As someone who has suffered multiple miscarriages I felt Chloe's pain. Chloe is healing and finding her way back to her normal, Zarek is spiraling out of control. When he gets caught up in something that doesn't feel right he asks his brother in law Simon and Onxy Security for help. I love Jasper Creek and the Avery siblings, Little Grandma who I think might not be completely human ( that woman knows everything ) and the rest of the towns people. It's like coming home! Be prepared for an emotional rollercoaster ride (que, tissues). One of Caitlyn O'Leary's best work. Now I can't wait for Zoe Avery and her book!
The waiting finally ends as Chloe and Zarek stumble, struggle, and blindly fight their way forward. You’re pulled through their pain, loss, and misery, feeling the ache of how deeply they want each other while also wanting to scream at their shared stubbornness. Your heart breaks for them again and again—right up until an unexpected twist of danger hits, one no one sees coming, cleverly disguised as a blessing. That turning point forces them to finally choose love and fight for it. What follows is an emotional upheaval that shatters before it heals, with danger pressing close, but love and family holding everything together even stronger in the end.
Chloe and Zarak are back in the story line and their focus is finding their way back to each other (with or without the help of family and friends). I love the expression "Avery Avalanche" (you need to be familiar with the Avery sisters to fully appreciate this). Familiar characters add warmth and colorful details to a great story. Another page turner in the best way (or "just one more chapter" and another and another). I wanted to reach through the pages to give hugs or shakes to our crew. I love the Protectors of Jasper Creek series. Bravo!!
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Chloe and Zarek have experienced tragedy and are handling it differently and “not well”. Chloe has moved away and is engrossed in her art which imitates life. Deadlines loom. Zarek works as an EMT and firefighter. But he needs more of an outlet. When the local gym sidelines him, he takes a mysterious man on his offer, and finds underground fighting.
So very emotional. The clan at Jasper Creek are there to help. This is raw, gritty, wonderful and very realistically handled. This will keep you glued to the page.
***** I am voluntarily leaving my honest review of this book *****
I love that Chloe and Zarek finally get back together for ever.
Chloe and Zarek have been through a lot and seem like the are never getting back together. Chloe is finally getting better but Zarek is spiraling and gets involved in illegal fights to help him stop this king about the pain and Chloe. Years ago, he saved Chloe from herself and now it is her turn to save him from self destruction. But he pulls Simon and Onyx Security in after he realizes what is going on with the fights. Will they be able to get all the bad guys before he is badly hurt in the ring and fight to the death? What surprise does Zoe offer them?
Wow! What an intense story. This story starts with Zarek and Chloe living separately. This takes us through each other's pain in their loss of their second child. Chloe was holding it together better than Zarek. Or so we thought. This couple is handling their grief in the worst way possible. As the story progresses, we get the sense this couple needs to find their own way back from devastation. The ending was definitely heart wrenching but glad to see this couple find their way back to each other. Now enter Zoe with a solution to their problem. Can't wait for Zoe's story! FANTASTIC job Caitlyn! I would highly recommend this book!
An amazing love story! Chloe & Zarek have loved each other since they were 7 years old. True love really can last forever.
It’s an intense look at how both are dealing with and healing from their crushing loss. It’s a sad subject matter, but it also proves good things can happen during, and most certainly, after grief has loosened it’s crushing grip.
Zarek’s method of dealing with his emotions is not what one should turn to, but who am I to say his method is wrong? Chloe points that out many times.
They both have traveled a long and emotional journey, but their love for each other never wavered. Such a sweet HEA. Love this story!
