About the author

Nadine Frye was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA. Coming from the inner-city never stopped her ability to dream big. Being raised in a large family, they used their creative minds to have fun making plays and songs and any other things they could dare to dream. In Nadine's younger years you could see her head inside of a book more often than experiencing the outdoors.

In her teen years, a personal tragedy unleashed a world of sadness and hurt only Her notebook could understand. Songs and poems poured from her soul, and for years it was to feel the relief from her heart. She began sharing small things with her close circle of friends. It was their motivation and that of her mother and sisters that she shared her talent
with the world. That was the beginning of daring to dream.

She now resides in Washington, DC where she wears
many hats including Mother and Wife and she graciously adds the cap of author
to her line up.

What's done in the dark!!

Baby them tables be turning!!! A boss and his babe come up but all that glitters ain't gold and love is just a four letter word! LaShawn thought meeting the man of her dreams was the start of something wonderful but it was going to be more than she bargained for.

I gave this book a 3.75/5. The story follows La'Shawn who is basically a young woman living her best life, to the dismay of her overbearing and hypocritical mother. At every chance, La'Shawn's mother makes sure to tell her how much she disapproves of La'Shawn's life, her love life, and her choice of career. The mother sits atop her high horse with all these opinions while reaping the benefits of La'Shawn's life. Although her mother beat, degraded, and put La'Shawn out of her house, La'Shawn still took the abuse and housed and financially provided for that woman. It was very much giving "she can do whatever because she's your mother." Which is something I don't believe in. Familial ties, regardless how close the blood tie, does not excuse blatant disrespect and abuse.

In walks Cyrus who seems like the answer to all La'Shawn's relationship prayers. From the beginning, something seemed a little off with him (to me). He was a little too perfect and there were a couple things that he said in the book that seemed a little off.

Aside from the mother's detour to her version of HEA, the ending of the book was very satisfying. I read this with a few friends and we all were very happy with the ending.

La’Shawn was a boss of her own who played men like fiddles. This book gave Godly, Messy and down right grimy. Picture you’re just trying to get to the top even if it’s means doing more than the average woman. Who would’ve ever thought love could landed you on the edge but also on the come up. I believe this was my first read from this author and it didn’t disappoint. This book was well written! 4.5

The storyline was really good and kept me hooked! The only reason I gave it 4 stars is that I wish we’d seen more of Maxine and Cyrus, so we could really get a feel for their relationship. Overall, I enjoyed this read and can’t wait to check out more from this author!

First time reading this author and it is so good. Immediately drawn in from the start I like a lil backstory to present day read. Ibdef recommend.👌🏾
