This a beautiful, painful collection of poetry. There are some moments of hope, but many of recounting trauma the impact it can have on one's life. However, it's one of the best poetry books I've read, enough so that I will be buying the physical copy. Be warned it deals with topics of rape, incest, and gender dysphoria.
There are so many poems I loved, too many to list, but some of my favorites are: when you hear hoofbeats, think of zebras watching drew barrymore die Big Gay Cat poem
All of Ford’s poems in this collection feature excellent diction, vivid imagery, and emotional depth. Any poem individually is strong, but the structure of the collection also allows each poem to take on different meaning and depth. Ford’s collection uses a choose-your-adventure format; readers can choose to engage in multiple paths between the poems. These paths are not random, but based on the choices and experiences of survivors of trauma. You can find the path maps at the back of the book, but I would encourage readers to engage in the paths organically at first.
