3.9 stars. Ok. After my initial frustration with Chelsea and her first reactions to Riven, everything calmed down a bit and I started really enjoying their relationship. I will say, I was kind of like ‘Really Bitch?’ when she meets the other cryptids that he’s friends with and she’s immediately accepting and friendly with them. That was sort of maddening after going through chapters where she was irrationally angry at Riven’s existence and shuddering at his ‘insect like’ features. But the build up to their HEA was pretty satisfying so I guess it was worth it in the end. I enjoyed the book much more than expected. The little bits of humor, like the ‘ads’ in her radio show, the jokes with the others in the mountain. Very cute. And the smut was so hot and worth the wait. It was really entertaining, and I might have to go look at this author’s back log now.
Alana Khan delivers a great monster read! What a creative and inventive new spin on monsters, this read will have you wondering what will happen next. It looks like this might turn into a series. If so, it’s one I will gladly download and read. The characters of Riven and Chelsea are sparkling with chemistry while her heroine, Chelsea is filled with strength and cunning. This is a touching read. Download and enjoy❤️
I do love a good monster trope but this one just didn’t do it for me. I really couldn’t get past her finding him disgusting at the start of the book. So that picture just stayed in my head and bothered me. I don’t mind a woman that is maybe a little afraid of the monster at first but her being repulsed by him I just could get over. It may just be my hang up and I’m sure other people may enjoy the story but just wasn’t for me.
I enjoyed this story. It was interesting and really well developed. It wasn't rushed through and I felt you really got to know the characters. I am looking forward to finding out what happens with the rest of the characters in her new series which I will definitely be reading.
Another great read! It's definitely got the right amount of spice, great characters, and enough action to keep things moving along. I'm excited it will be a continuing series and can't wait for the next one!
Chelsea is a nighttime radio broadcaster for people who believe in things that go bump in the night. Ever since she had released pictures of footprints of a Big Foot and let it be known that she had believed that they existed she lost her career that she had made for herself, and now was hiding in a backwoods cabin and putting out her all -night broadcasts. Riven is a Mothman and with his group of different “monsters” that people don’t believe exist has listened to Chelsea’s broadcast on a regular basis and falling more and more for her. He shows up at her door to warn her of the possible danger of a group of scientist and government guys that have now set her as a target. Chelsea reacts really bad to meeting him at the door and when he touches her Riven finds out that she is his mate and if there is not constant touch and fulfilled mating that he could die from the separation. Now Riven and his friends have to navigate these delicate waters while not trying to scare Chelsea away at the same time keep her safe and figure out what these other scientist are really up to and what it is they have planned. I loved every moment of reading how these two very different people come together at the same time navigating things to keep their mountain and all their “monster friends” safe. I so can’t wait to read the next books in these series as this is just the first of another amazing adventure that we get to curl up and follow through these pages. The chemistry and the sweet way this couple get together is so much fun to read and the sense of humor all of these characters have when they are together is a joy to read. Alana just keeps getting better and better when you read a series and think oh this is the best one she just pulls out that magic “pen” and sets you on a new adventure that you just can’t wait to read and follow along. I highly recommend this book!! Hop onto a new adventure you won’t regret it!!!
I’m pretty sure this is only the second book I’ve ever read where the MMC is a mothman. The other, if anyone is interested. is: Sweet Berries by C. M. Nacosta
I'll go along with the plot that Apex Evolution Technologies wants to capture the cryptids. It stretches my credibility to think that Apex believes Chelsea and her nutty listeners could blow their cover. The real issue for me, however, is the living arrangements that Apex has prepared for each specific type of supernatural. This indicates that they’ve been aware of Riven, Cliff, Dante and Volt for much longer than a few days or weeks. I wouldn’t be surprised if Apex knows where they live and that the relatively new drone action over Chelsea’s cabin is purely misdirection. How much danger would she be in if Riven and the others hadn’t made themselves known to her?
Additionally, even if the cryptids obtain all of the necessary documentation to expose Apex, what are they going to do with it? They have to stay hidden to keep humans from finding out about them. It’s not like they can give this information to the media. Once their existence is revealed, they’re toast.
Does Riven leave powder all over everything the way a real moth or butterfly does?
Entertaining story where Riven is somewhat irritating due to his refusal to do what is necessary to keep him alive. His noble intentions overcome his common sense. I have no problem with his belief when he and Chelsea first meet but holding out for a specific declaration on her part doesn’t make a lot of sense with the crisis looming over them. All of their fooling around should have sealed the deal long before it actually occurs.
Bonus Content: Nice addition based around Chelsea’s pregnancy. The crystals’ reactions are fun. The other character’s responses are heart warming but no mention is made of the lady scientist they rescued. I don’t think Dante is mentioned either.

What happens when a vacuum cleaner and a Roomba are in the same room with Barry White playing? Ask Chelsea, she's heard it all. And seen a few things herself. Chelsea, aka, Nocturna, is doing her nightly broadcast. Gone are her journalism days but she knows what she saw was real. Too bad it ruined her career. So in her cabin, she broadcast to believers like herself and some not like herself. Riven and his extended family listen or rather Riven, always listens to Nocturna. He and his fellow Cryptids live deep in the mountain but keep their tech up to date to keep in touch with others like themselves. He, as well as all of his friends, know that he's smitten with the human. When they hear a caller talking about the "men in black", it gets their full attention. They're looking for others like them as well as his Nocturna. He has to protect her. She can't believe what she's seeing standing at her door. Even though she's seen one herself, it was nothing like him! She's his mate. He knows it but she sends him away but the mating bond has started and the farther he gets from her, the weaker he gets. His friend brings him back to her and after they explain it to her, seeing him so weak, she allows him to stay outside. Yet watching him weakening, she soon allows him inside and they get to know each other. (I'll never look at a peach the same way) The more she's around him, the more she craves him as well. Despite his objections she's come to care for him and wants to take care of both of their needs. He's getting weaker everyday and if he won't let her complete the bond, he won't make it. Something is coming for all of them and it's going to be a fight unlike anything they've ever experienced before. And this is only the beginning! Monster Mountain Romance, I'm all in!
After Chelsea’s career as a journalist was destroyed, she is living in a small mountain cabin and doing a nighttime radio broadcast about things that go “bump” in the night. This has drawn the attention of a subversive company called AET. It’s not known exactly what the company does, but there is much speculation that some of their practices and less than ethical.
Riven is a cryptid and is a Mothman. He lives in a large cave in the mountains near Chelsea and he listens to her broadcast every night. When they start hearing repeated reports of sightings of men with a strange logo in their area he and his friends know something bad is in the works. Different species have started disappearing and never returning. Most have been small, like the brownies, but now they are starting to worry that they are going after the larger cryptids, like bigfoot and Mothman and his friends. He is also afraid that Chelsea is in danger as they keep sighting drones watching her. When Riven goes to warn her she doesn’t take it well. Unfortunately for Riven, she is his mate, and once she touched him his body went into mating sickness.
This is the first book in the Cryptid series and I can’t wait for the next one! You will fall in love with all of the characters. Alana makes these “odd” creatures so easy to fall in love with. As Chelsea and Riven start their journey of discovery with each other, she learns that he isn’t the monster that she called him when they first met. But they are on a tight time line as his mating sickness keeps getting worse and the ETA are closing in! Fantastic book full of love, passion, intrigue and danger! Don’t miss it!

Chelsea is a human who has a radio broadcast that is aimed at conspiracy theorists who love to believe in monsters. But her broadcast of odd occurrences has drawn the attention of a deadly group who may seek her out and definitely harm her if they think she knows something they want to hear about. Riven is a Mothman who, with his friends, enjoys her broadcast. But as the bad guys get more interested in her, Riven senses danger, especially when he has seen other species disappearing suddenly. He is compelled to warn her that she may be in real danger. To his surprise, once he approaches her, he recognizes her as his mate! She chooses not to be part of that “experience”, but Riven begins to get weaker as their mate bond has not been completed. However, he is honorable and would never push her to bond with him if that is not what she wanted. So he continues to get weaker which puts him in a dangerous situation if the bad guys choose to attack. But the decision is totally hers. Will she believe that he truly needs to bond with her or will die? And will he have the strength enough to protect her if the enemy makes a move on her while he is in this weakened condition?
This is a fun series to read with all the “monster” possibilities the authors bring to us, and the cover on this particular book is gorgeous! Give this one a try if you are not familiar with the variety available. They really are terrific stories, and this author’s books in particular are wonderfully written.
Chelsea is a late-night talk host. OK…her listeners are people steeped in conspiracy theories from Bigfoot to Men in Black….you name it. Except one night, the literal “Mothman” lands on her front porch. He tells her she’s in danger from a secret group. The Conspiracy host is dumbfounded when the Mothman, Riven, takes her to a secret fortress deep in the mountains. She’s even more stunned when she meets the actual Bigfoot (well one of them) and other beings that humans call Cryptids. And Riven is partly right. Not only is Chelsea in danger, but Riven is too because Chelsea is his fated mate.
Riven has been listening to Chelsea's night time broadcast and watching her for a while now. Rumors abound about secret “men in black” who are trying to locate her because they believe she knows the location of Riven and other beings like him. He rescues her and moves her to their lair but even with her safe, he’s in great danger. Chelsea is his fated mate and if she rejects the Mate Bond, he’ll die.
The secret organization is now hunting all of the Cryptids in order to conduct experiments on them. Experiments that have, so far, killed every “test subject.” Chelsea agrees to help Riven and all the other beings stay hidden but if she does not accept Riven’s mate bond, no matter if the the secret agents capture him or not, Riven will die.
I will admit i was a little unsure of this book...I wasn't sure how I felt about a moth/man. I will also admit that I was dead wrong!! Chelsea is a kick-butt strong woman who has had some bad luck (or bad friends!) resulting in her broadcasting a subversive radio show from the forest. Riven is a cryptid living in a mountain hideaway with his cryptic friends, hoping to stay under the government's radar. But when Chelsea's show brings too much attention, someone has to warn her, and Riven discovers they are mates. Now Chelsea is thrust into a world of myth and mystery that she didn't think existed, faced with some very difficult choices (about her safety and her heart). The pace was perfect, the spice was spicy, and the feels were all there. Loved both of these characters, and the supporting cast was well fleshed out, not just 2-dimensional background filler. I got invested in all of their stories and can't wait to read the rest of their endings!
I received an advanced copy of this book and am leaving a voluntary, unbiased review.
I am enjoying the "Mated to the Monster" series. It's fun seeing what different "monsters" the authors make up. In this story Riven is a mothman. He and his other monster friends listen to Chelsea's midnight call-in radio show which talks about the "other's" her listener's call in about. They hear about something strange going on in the area in which they live. Riven goes to talk to Chelsea about it, but he frightened her and she won't talk to him. He knows she might be in trouble so he won't go away. He comes back again and accidentally touches her. The mating bond activates right away. This causes a problem for Riven right away because he will die if the bond is not completed.
This is how the story starts, worry about the mating bond and the bad guys in the mountains. There are some funny parts e.g. a rumba and a vaccuum cleaner and scary parts where the group goes into the mountain to save someone. All in all, I enjoyed the story very much.
Chelsea is a former journalist who now lives a quieter life in a small cabin running a night time show about what might be about in the darkness. She has a very distinct understanding of what a monster is until she meets one and finds that while his appearance is different, he is nothing like she thought. Riven, a mothman, only went to warn the broadcaster of the nightly show that they might be in danger. He was not prepared for her to be his mate, nor for her to kick off his mating sickness. This book is so well written that you honestly feel as though you might know the characters. Sweet and funny it is also a tale of someone coming to change their view through learning and acceptance rather than stereotyping and prejudice.
This is the story of Chelsea, a human, and Riven, a Mothman. Chelsea has a limited listener- nightly broadcast about unusual happenings. This has brought her to the attention of bad people. Riven listens to her broadcast, sees what is happening to other species in the area and worries about Chelsea being in danger. When he goes to warn her, he recognizes they are mates and she doesn't take that well. But for her safety, do they complete the bond or does he fade away? Alana loves to test us with her plot twists, action, suspense, slow burn romance, humor , choices and danger in this story. I'm looking forward to more tales in this world. This is part of the Mated to the Monster series.
A strong 3.5+ I found this one to be enticing. Lyrical even. Caught my breath away several times. The tension is just appropriate with the pressures from both the bond and the looming outside forces. Love both Chelsea and Riven, and the burn of the story which isn't insta on both sides, far from it. Yet another example why plots including a mothman just tend to be the best. Perhaps people who actually follow conspiracy theories shouldn't read this, as this would encourage the fixation but I'm sure that others would appreciate the fictional value of this piece. Loved it. If to find one aspect to criticise then as others have pointed out before me, it's the utmost attributed value of the male pleasure in completion of the soul bond in between the characters as opposed to all other s3xual practices. That was a pity.
Moth to Her Flame is a book in the Mated to the Monster: Season 3 series and can be read as a standalone book… but wait there is more! Moth to Her Flame is also doubling as the first book in a new series by Alana Khan! I was thrilled to discover this because Moth to Her Flame was delightful to read and a thoroughly tantalizing glimpse into the dark machinations of greed and subterfuge with just enough intrigue, danger, romance and spice to tic all of my boxes. Plenty of mythical and lovable creatures and a little conspiracy theory shrouded in secrecy does not hurt either! Loved it and I cannot wait for more!
This was quite an engaging monster romance and I loved seeing tough Chelsea find out that the things her underground radio show is about are actually much closer than she ever knew. Sadly, so are the bad guys, and that brings Riven, a Mothman, to her home to let her know of the potential danger. He certainly didn't expect to find she was his mate, so yeah, things get complicated pretty quickly ;) Expect to be totally glued to your reader as this fascinating tale unfolds, bringing cryptids to life and have you rooting hard for them. Riven and Chelsea were fab together and their chemistry was hot! I really enjoyed how this one rolled out and can't wait for the next book. Good fun!
The author takes us on a delightful journey as the relationship between our main characters unfolds! What starts as revulsion gradually blossoms into affection, and that initial weirdness transforms into genuine fascination. She sees the beauty within the man, who is simply adorable—so noble, in fact, that he'd rather face anything than ever force her into something she's not comfortable with.
Our Mothman is such a kind soul! His sweet actions definitely deserve an award, and the best prize of all is winning the love of his mate. I'm really hoping we get to see the other cryptids have their own stories too!
This was a very interesting monster love story. The characters were unique and thought provoking. A paranormal radio host with issues is being searched for by an evil corporation. A mothman hears her voice and is pulled to her. Her touch is what he needs, but he is willing to give that up for her to be happy. I enjoyed the friendships between monsters and the interactions between the main characters. To anyone who likes monster love stories, I believe you will like this as much as I did which was a lot.
Chelsea and Riven What a romantic book. Riven is a very noble man and respects Chelsea without a sevond toght even if he dies! Chelsea is a former journalist and now has a small broadcast about monsters. A lot of people and monsters like it but the wrong people also want to know what secrets She knows and that is when Riven wants her and finds that they are mates. Humsns don't feal the Bond and he wont force her to it. He Will protect her till he dies. Its a very good story about how She learns and Change her mind and people being kind and honorable.
Chelsea, a reporter and a good one until she lost her job due to an incident. She’s smart, determined and feisty. Now she hosts a late night radio talk show about strange events. Riven, a mothman, (has some very….. intriguing physical attributes) and Chelsea’s mate, has such integrity, he refuses to allow the bond until she’s 100% sure. And that’s where things get extremely strange and increasingly dangerous.
Thoroughly enjoyed reading Chelsea and Riven's story. Chelsea is a late night radio DJ who talks about strange goings on like cryptids and aliens. Riven is a fan. One night, Riven goes to warn Chelsea about her safety and discovers she's his mate. Together with Riven's found family, they investigate an ominous new facility in the area. Loved the chemistry and how well everyone was written. Highly recommended 😊
What an interesting cryptid story. I must say, I never envisioned a moth man as a lead character. The idea of hidden special beings the humans are just questioning to discover his intriguing. I really liked how the uniqueness of Chelsea and Riven’s relationship was developed and explored. With a great group of friends and some ongoing work yet to come and address the impending threat, I’m looking forward to the next story already.
I received an ARC and am voluntarily sharing my honest review.
An interesting and imaginative story. It did take.her an awful long time to accept the mate idea. Forever is scary to a human, but she felt it physically yet.unable to wrap her head around it. The author hit the nail on the head when it came to the callers. I used to listen to late night radio and they were presented spot on. After their "little" adventure they finally consummated the mate bond and got their HEA.
Chelsea run a late night talk show full of the paranormal and alien, except now something human is after her. Riven has to save Chelsea for the mystery corporation even if it means revealing himself. Now Chelsea has a new problem of a mothman mate.
This was a new to me author. I enjoyed the story and the pace. While this is part of a multi author series, it seems to be the start of a new series for the author as well. I enjoyed it enough to try the next one.
This is such a creative story! I love when Alana creates new characters and "worlds" for them. In this case, OUR world but.. a hidden mountain hideaway for these "creatures" that are so different than the rest of humanity. I absolutely loved how he watched over her and loved her. And her protection of him and his friends .. so great! Can't wait to read more of the character's stories!
This book started their story in such a way that I was lost. It took chapters to finally get into this. I know each are stand-alone, but we have other monsters, a mountain cabin the a mountain with crystals plus more that loses me. The ending was very satisfying.
Great start to a new series involving mythical entities. In a world where differences are disdained and create fear, who is the real monster? Wonderful characters, a plot that holds the reader's interest and dramatic world building combine to make Moth to Her Flame a must read.
