This review focuses on Justin Kuiper’s first publication. Perfect Enemy was published last May and is the 57th title I’ve completed reading in 2025.

I received an ARC of this book through https://www.netgalley.com with the expectation of a fair and honest review. My opinions are unbiased and entirely my own. Due to scenes of violence, I categorize this novel as R.

The primary character is USAF Major Jake Rush. He is a combination of a cyber expert and a Tier 1 operator. His target in this novel is The Flame and Light, a powerful AI-driven cult. An AI deity known as Th3os becomes the focal point of worship and control. The story is told in part through interviews between Rush and Psychologist Dr. Anna Vaughn.

I spent 8+ hours reading this 425-page thriller. I thought the novel was slow and a bit disjointed. It also just stopped instead of coming to a conclusion. In hindsight, I should have called the Rule of 50 (life is short and there are too many good books to read) early in my reading. I do like the chosen cover art. It seems appropriate for this novel. I give this novel a rating of 2.5 (rounded to 3) out of 5.
