I enjoy the world; I enjoy the writing (even the lame jokes). There were some serious events, with combat and intrigue.
But.
This was mostly focused on tying up some loose threads and laying groundwork for the next book. Things didn’t really progress that much. Elorion was out of his depth 100% of the time. Very reactive.
Don’t get me wrong: I still liked it. I simply would recommend waiting until the *next* book is released before spending time with this one. Because this one didn’t really *do* that much.
I love this series and always have high hopes. This really felt like a transition book that had very little actual action but I sets up the rest of the series.
Don't get me wrong, it is well written, and it gives context on the succubi and sets up the next book. But that's really all it does. It's important in the context of the stories development, but it's boring. Much more so than Sanctuary 2.0. Which also failed to deliver but made promises that this book has failed to keep. There is only one action scene with the main character, which is a blink, and you've missed it, assassination attempt. This could have been half the size and led into the next part of the series as one book. Could have and probably should have. I feel very disappointed and vaguely cheated. Yet I have loved all the previous books. Oh, and there is no payoff or drama from the First Spear that was implied at the end of the last book.
SPOILERS AHEAD. . As in a summary, so you can skip the book.... IF YOU CAN SPOIL A FILLER/EXPOSITION VOLUME That is!
Elorion and Aeris briefly talk to everyone, and i mean e.v.e.r.y.o.n.e. in sanctuary to see if they can buy them stuff, then go to the succubi city and are given palaces. They then buy slave/not slaves to give them and sanctuary help and save them time. Including a gifted manager, vampire butler. There, they met vampire beast eater slaves, who could have escaped any time but didn't despite despising being slaves. They form an uneasy alliance due to the Tir family token and free them. The headmistress introduces them to the succubi and vampire diplomats at a dinner where she declares war on the vampires. This includes exposition as to why and the origin of the succubi. [I won't reveal that bit] Many pages are dedicated to the logistics of using unlimited wealth of core creation to buy access to magic veins. The actual magic vein experience is brief and anticlimactic. Big set up for not much.A lot of pages are dedicated to seeking out books on surface sciences and how they could help his magic, even more just on the concept of the perfect mirror, but nothing really happens with that. [To sum up: This is the theory, can't really do it yet, but I have earth magic now.] Aeris unlocking blue magic is basically a dud for now. They unlock a few others, but it's a dull, tedious affair. Though in a small aside, they gain 2 additional Fae allies. Much writing is dedicated to the idea of automating core creation, then developing the idea, then experimenting with implementing the idea, all to make them rich. Just for Lilith to take it off them, without their having a say in the matter, but casually paying a lot for it as almost an afterthought. There were many pages dedicated to this for zero payoff. A brief assassination attempt where Elorions' response was basically lacklustre, and they ended up being saved by Lilith. Elorion gets 2 new forms but doesnt explore them in this book. They very briefly go shopping, during which they geek out, and buy surface cars for no practical reason. The book ends with them leaving the city to infiltrate the vampire world with the beast feeders they freed. Along with the realisation that nothing of real substance happened, no action and no payoff. But it is well written and it does make you look forward to the next book. But sanctuary 2.0 did that, and this was that next book. Hmmm

I love this series, but I did not love this book. It was poorly proofread and muddled. The lack of proofreading actually annoyed me more than the meandering by the end of the book - its/it's, their/there, your/you're; it can't get more basic than this. The previous book was a transitional book that tied up loose ends and set up this new story arc. This book felt like three books worth of ideas of what the MC could do in the Succubi City and ended up just one big meandering, muddled mess. Thankfully, it finished well and set a clear direction for the next book.
Don't get me wrong; I'm still a big fan of the series. I love the characters, and we learned some interesting things, so I'll just call this one a miss for me while eagerly awaiting the next one.
I've been looking forward to this book for a while. The authors hit his stride. Had plenty of action. A decent plot several really good. Twists very enjoyable. I'm not going to give you a rundown of the plot of the book because I feel that would defeat the entire purpose for you. It's well written. There's good characters. There's decent character development. Interesting use of powers. This book sets up a lot of things for the next book which I expected be even more dynamic and full battles. I apologize for any spelling ears. I'm writing this with you with voice to text books and I believe if I can help other people like find his books that's all to the good cuz he's a decent author and he should be read
Great addition to the series, lots of stuff to nerd out on and get excited about. Elements from earlier in the series to a small degree with lots of setup for the next book.
Would really like to see this book series release in arcs or trilogy because I am incredibly concerned about feature creep impacting the story and the author making necessary financial decisions with the storytelling. Looking at you system apocalypse, ten realms and a few others.
Hope we maintain the consistency, and if author needs to take another break I am all for it because they have shown the ability to be true to their original intent in logic and consistent ways.
I'm a big fan of this series and recommend it often. This particular book was a bit too detailed for me to fully enjoy—at times, I felt like I needed a degree in geology or a background in vintage cars to keep up. That said, I'm looking forward to the next one; it sounds like it'll be more in line with the rest of the series.
But it could definitely use a pass from an editor. I found several jarring wrong word homonyms that took me out of the story for a moment. Luckily the rest of the wiring was easily able to bring me back in
This book was less plot and action driven than previous ones in the series, but chock filled with character development and back story. It filled in some plot and development holes, while throwing in some good twists. I look forward to reading the next one!
Loved this book. It was more of a political progress book but also got to check so many things off the shopping list. This was a fun read with some interesting set ups for the next Arc.
A great job on this book. The last one felt like little happened just catch up but real progress and real direction for the story was shown. Really liked Ann the characters and twists along the way.
This book was a good book for the series to solidify and tie up what we know about the characters. Also gave context to what’s going on and what their purposes really are. Good book for the future of the series. Not as action packed as the others but a good change of pace.
A 14hr audio book. Signs of the end of the series show its self, for instance you hear about 'max level', and a final battle to come before being free. Overall, I very much enjoyed this litrpg.
