Hope Springs #1

Second Chance Ranch

Rate this book
Sometimes love is right where you left it.

Sadie Hart has a plan: return to her small town of Hope Springs so she can regain her confidence—and bank account—before giving one more shot to her country music dream. The dream that means more to her than anything. The dream she chose over her high school sweetheart, the brooding and sinfully handsome Royce Dixon.

Royce has moved on from his memories of the beautiful Sadie. Now he’s focused solely on running Second Chance Ranch, where he rehabilitates troubled teens through ranch work. But when he needs a new employee and Sadie’s the only one to volunteer, he has no choice but to offer his old flame a job.

Whether riding a horse with the wind in her hair or mucking out the stalls, Sadie can still get Royce’s heart beating like no one else. But Nashville is her dream, and Royce can’t settle for second best.

This book. This book! From the moment I started it all the way to the very end this book was read with a huge grin on my face. Second Chance Ranch is the second book I've read by Cindi Madsen and has solidified the fact that she is now one of my must buy everything type of authors. Both books I've read so far just make me happy as I read them and I can't wait to buy more of her work and lose myself.

Her characters are so rich and lovable. And you fall in love with all of them. From Sadie and Royce all the way to Cory and Quinn their best friends and even the kids at the ranch and Sadie's grandpa had me as well. It's not often where I find an entire book filled with characters that make me want to jump inside and stay there. Each having their own personalities and quirks that leap from the pages.

I love how second chances is a theme that runs through this book on different levels. Not only do you have this relationship between Sadie and Royce which grabbed hold of my heart and refused to let go. But you have Sadie with her musical dreams and you also have a group of really awesome troubled teens at the ranch that Royce runs. Well at least two of which you get to know a bit in the book. It all made for a very sweet and heartwarming book that I was sad to finish because I didn't want it to end.

I realized in getting this review ready that I have a 3rd Cindi Madsen book already on my Kindle...you better believe I'm going to jump on that one and get it read as soon as possible. I can't wait to read more of this series and anything else she writes for that matter. Thank you Entangled for allowing me to read and review this book!!!

I love when authors join forces and create crossover characters in their books. We first meet Sadie Hart in Rachel Harris's Accidentally Married on Purpose, where she makes a very brief cameo to sing at Blue's induction to the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame. Fellow Bliss author, Cindi Madsen, has written us Sadie's story and I will just tell you up front. I loved it. Second Chance Ranch drew me in right away and I could not get enough of Sadie and Royce together!

My heart broke for Sadie. After leaving her family, high school boyfriend, and her home behind to head to Nashville to pursue a singing career, she now finds herself back where she started. She still has her family and her home, but her high school boyfriend was one of the sacrifices she had to make to try and follow her dreams. Being back home to get her bearings straight, causes old memories to resurface of a time where her and Royce were happy and completely head over heels in love.

Now, there is a tension between them and Royce is determined not to let the beautiful, blonde woman he once loved back into his heart. Royce has his own problems to deal with, as the ranch he and his mother run desperately needs a woman employee to help avoid any potential scandals or credibility problems. Second Chance Ranch is a place where troubled teens are sent to learn what hard, honest work is and also to provide them with the encouragement they need to turn their lives around. Royce finds himself at a crossroads, as Sadie needs a job and he seems to be the only one who actually has work. She knows the ranch well and he has gotten a glimpse of her briefly interacting with one of the tough to crack kids there. He knows she won't plan to stick around long anyway, so as long as he keeps things professional between them, they should be able to make a go of it.

I love second chance romances. Sadie and Royce still have that spark and they are genuinely good for one another. It's easy to fall back into old ways and remember how good they used to be together. The last thing Royce expects is to fall for her again, especially after having his heart broken by her so many years ago. It's a slow fall though. Madsen doesn't rush their relationship, which made it feel that much more meaningful and important, as it's the real thing.

The ending was perfection and I love what Royce did at the rodeo. It was one of those perfect moments that could be straight out of a movie. I cannot recommend this book enough because it's just a sweet love story that will leave your heart happy and full.

This was a sweet story. I loved the setting of this book. Second Chance Ranch is a place for troubled teens but also gives Royce and Sadie their second chance at love. There was nothing really original in this story line. It's a story that has been told before and will be told again but I liked how the author told this version of the story.
The characters are really likable. Sadie has been chasing her dream to become a country music sensation for 6 years but despite getting close several times it's eluded her. Royce has taken over the family ranch and has not had time for much else. When circumstances force them back together they both have to reevaluate what they really want out of life.

A great ending made this a really enjoyable read.

Cindi Madsen is one of my all time favorite authors. You know when you sit down to read one of her books you will be engaged from page one to the very end, and can't wait for the next book to come out. I love that her characters are down to earth and full of heart and soul. The dialogue between the characters in Cindi's books flow and are never boring. I like a book full of substance and that is what this author delivers. You will truly enjoy reading Sadie and Royce's story. I mean what's not to love when you have former high school sweethearts meeting up again after six years apart. Sparks fly, but love conquers all ....... sigh ;) This is the first book in the "Hope Springs" series, but is definitely a stand alone. I certainly recommend her "Accidentally in Love" series, too. They are all delightful right down to the last sentence of the last page.

Cowboys…..you got to LOVE them!!

Sweet and Romantic, I love it when I'm reading a book and I found myself just smiling. This book will have that effect on you. Royce and Sadie, ex-high school sweethearts, 6 years later and forced to work together find that some of the old feelings are still lingering.

I kind of like that she pursued him.....NOT in a slutty and annoying way. FULL of sexual tension.

Finally at 72% ....FINALLY.....they get together......it's what I have been waiting for.....FINALLY.....SEX.....fade to black sex. Bummer, if you follow me or read my reviews, you know that this is one of my pet peeves. If I LOVE the couple, nothing is sacred, I want to know everything and be involved in all aspect of the relationship....but I digress. Sadie is struggling with realizing that dreams can change, while Royce struggles with letting her go, again.

I would have liked more in the epilogue but that goes back to me being noisy and needy. Good Clean Romance Novel....Great Backyard Read!!

I just love a sweet romance. And you'll find a wonderfully sweet one in Second Chance Ranch. With writing that flows so smoothly and an excellent cast of characters that have depth and you can truly care about, this story will draw you in and leave with with that happy HEA feeling once you're done.

This story had a great plot-no craziness, just a well written storyline that keeps your interest throughout the book. Getting to see things from both Royce and Sadie's POV is a big plus. I'm a huge fan of second chance romance stories, and this one was a perfect fit. Royce was my favorite character, with Eli being a close second...and there are several characters to choose from that I'd love to see more stories written around so we can find out where they all end up.

I give 4 solid, sweet and sexy stars to Second Chance Ranch for a classic telling of the perfect second chance romance!

I loved this book so much I couldn't put it down! A very well written story about second chances and following your heart. You can't help but fall in love with Sadie and Royce. Both are very likable characters that are still in love with the other but afraid of getting hurt again. Cindi Madsen does a great job of letting the reader see both perspectives in a way that works very well and flows smoothly throughout the book.

3. I love cowboys!

Second Chance Ranch has everything I like in a story. It's a story about second chances, forgiveness, moving forward, family, following your dreams and so much more. It's told so beautifully, you don't want to put it down. I REALLY hope this becomes a series for Hope Springs because I see a lot of potential!

This was one of those books that I after I read it, I couldn’t get it out of my head and therefore couldn’t start the next book for days. I both like that and dislike it.

I really wished I could have been an outdoor gal and lived on a ranch with horses and cattle and worked from sun up to sundown. But, I like my air conditioner too much and I live near the ocean, so it is a good dream. Sorry, random thought.

Second Chance Ranch really has two meanings. One is for the second chance at love. The other is the nickname of the Ranch that holds troubled teens for a time to help them with issues and give them hard work and maybe a little fun too if they are making progress.

Royce is moving on with his life. He proposed to Sadie in high school. They were everything to each other until they weren’t. Sadie had dreams of being a big country singer. So, she left everyone to go to Nashville. Several years later, broke and a little downhearted she returns to work and save up some money so she can go back to Nashville and keep trying. She was just trying not to run into Royce. But in a small town, it was inevitable to run into each other. Then when she finds there are no jobs to be had except for on Royce’s Ranch, both are left to accept that they will be around each other.

Ha, if it was only that easy. Sadie has a knack for being a people and animal whisperer. She can calm anything. Royce sees that and he both hates and likes that she can do that. Eventually, the two find that there are still some deep feelings for each other and it is hard to ignore. Because, if you give in you know your heart will just eventually have to heal all over again once she leaves.

I love Ms Madsen’s writing style. It is easy to put yourself in their shoes when you read it. You feel that love and you feel the sadness when a heart stars to break too! I like how she tied this book into her last book with just a mention of the singer Tyler Blue! I love her description of the ranch that is what made me wish to be there too! I enjoyed watching the troubled teens come around too. I liked how Sadie had a knack with people and animals. The scene where the foal is born is amazing! I am a labor and delivery nurse and would love to witness that someday!

I can’t think of anything I didn’t like. Well, except for the above, which isn’t really against the book. It was an amazing read that gave me a way to live the life on a ranch vicariously through the book!

If you like living on a ranch, riding horses, helping troubled teens, going to rodeos, learning how to lasso a calf, singing, having dreams that you want to accomplish, second chances, making choices, cowboys, families, well then this book is for you!

Second Hand Ranch by Cindi Madsen is a story about second chances at the life and love that one leaves behind for ambitions of fame. Sadie Hart left her small hometown of Hope Spring, Wyoming for Nashville, for a chance to make it like the country singers whose posters graced her walls in high-school. Seven years later, out of money and maybe even out of hope, she returns home to regroup before she tries again to make her dream come true and then she runs into him, Royce, the love of her life in high-school and she begins to wonder what dream she really wanted; the dream of becoming a country music star or the dream of working at the ranch side by side with her cowboy Royce. This book was a 3.5 star read for me and I would recommend it to other who enjoy a good light-hearted cowboy book with a happily ever after.

Royce thought that he got over Sadie Hart years ago. She broke his heart when she declined his marriage proposal and left for Nashville without a word. He thought he whole world had fallen apart and he threw himself into his work, taking care of the ranch and the camp like nothing else mattered. That is until she walked back into his life. Royce tries with everything in him to not fall for her again, but he fails at every turn. Remembering the past; her easy smile, her infectious laugh, the way that everything feels right when she is near. Although he tries to stay far away from her until she up and leaves again, he gives her a job at the ranch and remains indifferent to her presence; or so he thinks.

Sadie is grateful for the opportunity that Royce gave her working at the ranch; she loves being outside, taking care of the animals, being with the kids and of course silently watching Royce and the man that he has become. Her feelings for him never left her, they were simply buried deep down.

Do Royce and Sadie rekindle their romance? Do they have their happily ever after? You will have to one-click this book to find out.

The beginning was very captivating, it was one of those books which you start and just keep on reading. IT is a reflection on our hopes and dreams. It is a story of two people whose life didn't turn out to be the way they envisioned. But in the end they realise; it wasn't such a bad thing after all. Sometimes what destiny has in store for us is better than what we wanted. I also liked the idea of "Second Chance Ranch." And it fits in the whole plot beautifully, capturing the true meaning of hope and love. I think the whole book is great and well written. It is a must read for those who are looking for second chances. But then aren't we all? ;)

Sadie had left her small town and the boy she loved to fulfill a dream that didn't happen. Now she is back. Not much has changed in her small town and it reminds her of all that she has missed. especially what she had with Royce. She still misses him but things had not ended well for them. On her very first day back she meets him and it is clear that he has still not forgiven her for leaving and breaking his heart.

Royce has no idea how to react. Clearly he is still a little bit in love with Sadie but he cannot forgive her. She had broken his heart and since then he hasn't been the same person. Now he has his ranch to think about. Nothing else seems more important than making it work. It was his father's dream and now his. As far as Sadie is concerned he will have nothing to do with her. That woman was, and most probably still is, trouble.

Then by luck he got to hire her to work on his ranch. Sadie needs a job desperately and he needs a woman employ just as desperately. So it works out for both of them. But the real problem is staying away from each other and overcoming intense attraction they both still feel.

I really enjoyed reading it and I hope everyone else do too. Happy reading everyone! :)

When Sadie Hart left Hope Springs, Wyoming to follow her dreams of being a country music singer she left behind her friends, family, and one true love. But when Nashville chewed her up and spit her out she had to go back home to Hope Springs.

Royce Dixon was hurt when Sadie chose Nashville and her dreams over him. He left the rodeo circuit to help his dad run the Second Chance Ranch which was started by his dad and mom to help troubled teens. When his dad passed away unexpectedly from a heart attack Royce took over along side his mom and best friend Cory.

Royce often thought he'd hear Sadie's sweet voice on the radio but instead 6 years later he saw her back in Hope Springs. She had come home after having her dreams crushed in Nashville. Broke and needing a job and no one in that little town was hiring except the Second Chance Ranch.

She never expected to have to come home and ask for her own second chance. But she needed a job and he needs the help. Will he overlook their past and give her a chance at the ranch?

Will their love get a second chance as well or was there too much hurt the first time? Will their future get a shot at a first time?? You'll need to read to find out. I'm glad I did.

This was a sexy, sweet, and quick read for me. I thoroughly enjoyed it and hope I get to read Cory's story next!

What a great sweet story about a second chance romance. Sadie Hart had it all - a great family, a fantastic boyfriend and a chance to make it big in the country scene. She didn't want to have any regrets so when she graduated and headed off to Nashville she never looked back! Royce Dixon was heartbroken when she walked away from him and his proposal at 19 - but settled into his life on the ranch with his parents. He knew he'd always be a cowboy/rancher and his dad was set on running a second chance ranch for troubled teens. Sadie found herself on the outs in Nashville and was heading home broke. As fate would have it, she ran into Royce her first night back and he ended up offering her a job on the ranch. When things start to heat up between them - Royce is ready for a repeat of his broken heart and Sadie isn't sure why she ever walked away 6 years ago. Can time heal all wounds or are some of them to deep to heal? Cindi Madsen wrote a perfect story with the perfect mixture of everything a great book needs.

Sadie scooped up a big pile of crap and placed it in the wheelbarrow. Royce turned to leave, but then she said, "You know, when I quit my last job, I told my boss I'd rather shovel horseshit than work for him." ....

Damn, damn, damn. He wanted to stay mad at her -- to hold on to how badly the girl had hurt him when she'd left him the way she had. But years had passed, and here she was, thanking him for the opportunity to shovel shit.

SECOND CHANCE RANCH by Cindi Madsen is the perfect second-chance-at-love tale! It's another winner for Entangled Bliss! I'm a huge fan of Cindi's books. I know when I pick up one of Cindi's books that I'm going to be treated to a sweet, fun romance that will hold my attention to the end. SECOND CHANCE RANCH does not disappoint! Add in the small town aspect, the humor and the ultra-sexy cowboys, and I was hooked for sure. I easily connected to and really liked both lead characters - they were each fabulous, well-written personalities.

Sadi is a girl with a dream of making it big in singing, she's in love with her high school sweetheart but doesn't want to regret things like her mother did and has it set that she's going to make it big and when Royce ask her to marry him she says no and moves to Nashville to sing even though every day she thinks of him. She's hit some ruff times and after two contracts not working out and a bad night on stage she moves home to save money and re group.

Royce is killing him self working at his ranch trying to make everything work. He set long hours and keeps the woman to short live if not one night stands when he chose to have one. He's in trouble with loading the camp her rums for teens if he can't get more help and when Sadi is the only one willing to do it, he sets his feelings aside. But every time he sees her old feelings come back and new ones grow.

As the two grow closer again they set it to its a no wing not a forever but feelings are hard to hide and dreams change. Can these two make their dreams come true and love one and other?

Perfect read for fans of reunited lovers. When Sadie went to follow her country music dream, she left the guy she loved behind. Now several years have passed and they both think they're over each other. Until they see each other again, that is. With Sadie back in town, neither of them can deny they still have feelings for each other. I loved these characters and really wanted them to work things out, although I wasn't sure how they could and still follow their dreams. I couldn't be happier with how it ended, though. Second Chance Ranch is a great start to a new cowboy series from Cindi Madsen.

Love, love, love this book!! Cowboys and country singers, a great combo and the chemistry between Royce and Sadie is sweet but hot. The back drop is the Second Chance Ranch, run by Royce and his mom after his dad's death. His ex Sadie comes back into town after leaving 6 years ago to live her dream of being a country singer. She's had some tough breaks and came home to be with her family. She starts to work for Royce and the feelings that never died start to rekindle. Will she give up Royce again for the lure of a contract?

I really loved this book! It's a heartwarming second chance story with fabulous characters and a storyline that has you rooting for the H/h from the very start. Luke and Sadie had a young love that we all would want but different dreams tore them apart. But on the Second Chance Ranch anything is possible. Once I started this I couldn't put it down, I think everyone will enjoy it. I highly recommend it.

I absolutely adored this book! As we are slowly but surely moving towards spring, I couldn’t have read this at a better time. This sweet and sassy romance with a side of country twang was a quick and easy read that I fell head over heels for and simply didn’t want to end.

As a whole, I’d say this story was pretty light-hearted, but it did have its emotional spots, too, which I appreciated. I love when an author can make me feel a whole range of emotions, and I definitely got that here. I laughed out loud, I got moved nearly to tears, I swooned. A large part of that was definitely due to the excellent character development here. I adored Sadie and Royce (of course!) and loved how Madsen took them through all of the pushing and pulling that comes with second chance romance. I also enjoyed having a clear picture of the secondary characters. They were fleshed out enough that I could distinctly imagine them—love that!

I think another eason I loved this one so much was the setting. I can’t say I’ve ever lived on a ranch, but living in central PA, there was just something about this book that felt like home. <3

All in all, this book read like a steamy Hallmark movie, and I loved it to pieces! If you like country music, cowboys, and lighthearted romance, you need to add this to your TBR!

Sweet romance with solid characters, pacing, and heart.

I could feel Sadie's anxiety over performing, considering what had happened the last time. I also understood a lot of her decisions were made on misleading information (I'm glad that got sorted with her mother), and the follies of youth.

And while I understood where Royce was coming from, he was still a bit of an idiot. (I guess they really hadn't grown that much in the seven years they were apart.) In some ways he seemed older because of his responsibilities, but he's still only 25 so still pretty stupid in some areas.

I liked Sadie's friendship with Quinn. You could feel their connection, we weren't just told that they're close. (And there was no name calling which is the lazy way of showing how close they're supposed to be.) Kudos to the author for writing a solid female friendship. I'm looking forward to Quinn's story.

While I would have liked more heat - this almost feels like a sweet romance, save for the one really steamy scene - overall a very enjoyable and quick read.
