I am always surprised when an author can make me hate a character then turn around and make me like them. That’s what happened with this book.
Caius was not a nice fella in the first book, but in this book we find out what he is not Caius. Doesn’t that make sense? Wren too has been going through the wringer and is the reason Caius was so terrible in the last book.
But mending of hearts and souls is not easy and it takes a lot of trust and letting go to get there.
Then we have Kane and Gayla.. I am glad we got some of them sorted out only to not. Lol Yeah there love affair is still on going and doesn’t have a HEA yet…
Loved this narrator; she has a way of making you want to keep listening to her. I love that.
*You don't have to like my review but its 100% my opinion, and I am allowed to have it.*
The love and loss that was felt in this book kept me on edge! I couldn't put the book down the need to find out what was going to happen next unbelievable. I am in love with this series!!!
Amazing. I love how the stories intertwine. The story was so riveting that I found myself holding my breath several times. I can't wait for the next book.
After reading Brenda Tetreault's 'Tempted' and learning she was writing 'Salvaged', I will admit to maybe being a little impatient waiting for it to be published. I purchased a copy the same night it hit Amazon's website.
The Nightshade Novels have to be read in order so y'all can keep up with who is who and what's happening to who. Although Roman and Sabrina head up the cast in the first book of the series, we do meet a lot of the characters who feature in the next few books in the leading roles.
"Heaven has no rage like love to hatred turned, Nor hell a fury like a woman scorned" As I was reading Salvaged for the second time, it struck me that the phrase "Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned" was quite apt in Caius' case, except he's obviously not a woman LOL. I couldn't remember the whole phrase so I Googled it and I think you will agree, or at least I hope ya do, the first part of the phrase is TOTALLY apt for the son of a God.
"You will be salvaged" "Salvaged" tells us the story of Caius and Wren and the aftermath of a dream vision. Interspersed throughout their story weaves the tale of Caine and Gaela. These four characters have the hardest time of all of Brenda's characters -in my opinion.
After meeting Caius in "Tempted", one can hardly fault you for thinking what a completely arrogant, egotistical, low down dirty love rat he is. He uses his powers to seduce and abandon women, leaving them feeling desolate, despairing and worthless.
Caius is bitter and destroyed after his wife suddenly vanishes without a word, Wren is haunted by a vision and the decision she made as a result, Caine is destined to murder the woman he loved and Gaela wants a man who is the one destined to end her life.
Not once did I find the storyline lacking. From start to finish emotions are rife and they range broad across the spectrum - Love, Betrayal, Sorrow, Hurt, Anguish - to name but a few. Each chapter has something in it that just makes you want to keep reading and when you read the final chapter, it's horrible because then you have the knowledge that you have to wait for the next book to find out what happens to who next.
I will admit to not being a fan of two stories being told in the one book. For me it kinda detracts from the main duo of the story, but I did enjoy "Salvaged" nonetheless. Brenda does a great job of keeping her characters and their surroundings alive for the reader. She also keeps the emotions alive for each character. It's also extremely easy to love or hate a character because they are portrayed through Brenda's writing so well. For these reasons, I didn't drop a Shamrock from my rating.
Loving this series so much that I volunteered to be a Beta reader for "Beloved", so keep an eye out for my review on that :D

✿REVIEW: I loved Salvaged! Salvaged is the second book in Brenda Tetreault's hot paranormal series, The Nightshade Series. Salvaged is Caius and Wren's story. Caius first appears in the first book as a potential villain, but we find out why he is the way he is in Salvaged and I fell in love with him. As the son of Cupid, Caius has the ability to make any women fall in love with his and he uses this abilities by making it his mission to use and break as many hearts as he can after his own heart is broken by his wife, Wren. When they come back together it's explosive. Their story is explosive, emotional, and scorching hot. Brenda Tetreault has created an exciting and unique paranormal world with this series and she is an author to watch. Caine, my favorite character in the series, is next and he will finally get his book with Gaela. Their story starts in the first book and continues throughout the series. I highly recommend this series for paranormal lovers looking for a sexy new paranormal romance series. I'll be anxiously awaiting the next book!

WOW! Loved book two in the Nightshade Series. I was expecting the main story to be about Caine and Gaela, however, I was pleasantly surprised to learn it was about Caius and his love, Wren. While the secondary story was Cain and Gaela, the torture of separation Caius endured at the hands of his wife, was front and center. Caius was so ready to end his centuries of existence when Cupid steps in to teach his son a valuable lesson that puts him in Wren’s path. The push/pull chemistry between these two is hot! There are appearances of characters past, Roman and Sabrina, along with some of the villains we love to hate and a few new ones. Plots thicken and hints of stories to come blossom out of the pages. Emotionally griping and wonderfully rich in character and story. This was a fantastic second in the series. Ms. Tetreault has spun a beautiful world. I cannot wait to see what book three has in store for us. Provided for an honest review. 5 out of 5 stars.
I read this book as I loved the 1st one so much I wanted to know more about the character, except this one had me slightly confused as it kept going back and forth between main characters Caine and Gaela and Caius and Wern in between chapters, other than this I loved it the detail in what you get is amazing the chemistry between each couple is spot on it makes you want to fall in love with them. I can't wait to start the next book as hopefully it will give me more on Caine and Gaela. If books confuse you easily (like me ) then give yourself a few more days to read this than you normally would as I kept having to re read a few chapters to figure out which characters I was on but still well worth the read :)
From the ending of Tempted, I expected this book would be about Gaela and Caine. While a good portion of the story took place with them, as well as Sabrina and Roman, the main body of the story was about Caius. Yep, Cupid's evil son. Or is he really evil? Is there a chance for his redemption? This book was full of heart-stopping, gasping in surprise, terrifying action. And, of course, steamy couplings to break up the tension! In this supernatural tale, nothing is ever what it seems; ghouls masquerade as humans, gods and goddesses twist their offspring, old feuds are brought to life, and beloved characters pass through the veil. I literally could not put this down!
Wren ran away from Caius on their wedding night for some really really stupid reason. After 400 years the couple are reunited and its “I love you’s” from them both. Um, yes, I understand that once Caius is in love, its pretty much a wrap. But harboring such hatred for women because of Wren’s behavior for 400 years is a bit much. Get over it. And of course Wren has been celibate — for 400 years, hating herself EVERYDAY for leaving him.
This is stupid to me. Yes, I know this is not real; its just an imaginary tale, but its just too stupid for me.
For these reasons, I’m giving this a horrible one star — it was horrible for me, so there you have it!
I will start by saying "Well Caught Brenda". After a prolonged bout of ugly crying I felt sure I knew where this story would end, and I was thinking bad thoughts about the author for the pain I would be in before she could, hopefully, make it up to me in the next book.
I was partially correct but a fair bit wrong. I still need some quiet time and the third book to recover completely but I am calm.
I was sort of pushed to read Brenda Tetreault's books. I am so pleased to have her talent and strangely endearing imagination to keep me company.
My emotions were on a rollar coaster the whole time! I went from hating Caius and loving Wren to hating Wren and loving Caius!! I think I may hate and love them both at this point! Salvaged is amazing! I love how all the stories intertwine in this series!
I have to start with the cliffhanger from book 1. When I started book 2, I had to recheck to make sure I was listening to the correct book (was in the right order). I had assumed the author would pick up where she left. Did she? NO! Apparently, some of her fans had wanted to know more about Caius (Cupid’s son), so she decided to include a story about him, right that moment, instead of going along the path the series should have taken (how it was originally). So what’s the problem you ask?
There was nothing smooth about the transition from book 1 to book 2. What was the point of the cliffhanger if it was only vaguely referenced in the next book? But why? Who knows. She ended up jumping ahead in time for whatever reason. Did the author think she couldn’t put Caius’ story after Caine and Gaela’s? That would have made sense. The fact she decided to have Caius’ story as book 2… it didn’t work! Having Caine and Gaela’s story as the “second story” for book 2 made no sense since they should have been the stars of book 2. Plus, there were unanswered questions. What was the secret? Why did Caine’s mother want him to kill Gaela? I have no clue. What was his curse? Again, unless I brain-farted multiple times, I never heard what Caine’s curse was, yet it was brought up many a time. I didn’t see any other reviews stating a similar issue, so I don’t know. How were so many readers fine with how this series was going?
I just had so many issues with book 2, overall. It didn’t capture my attention as well as book 1 did. Probably because I was annoyed the series wasn’t going as I’d expected. I know, get over it, Melissa. I honestly didn’t care to learn more about Caius. I mean, with his father being Cupid (god = love), I wasn’t really surprised that one of his sons felt differently about love. Obviously, I was the only one who didn’t care. The fact he had been emotionally abusive (if not causing suicides) to women for four hundred years all because of Wren… it just didn’t work for me. Get over it! I couldn’t understand how he hadn’t been able to find Wren after all that time. He was a god! Didn’t he have other god friends who could have helped him out? Given Cupid knew where Wren was all that time AND knew how much his son was suffering… it just didn’t make sense to me! Or the fact that he’d been doing all this negative emotional stuff towards women for hundreds of years and only just now was being punished?!
The same thing can be said with Wren. I just didn’t understand her character. She had a dream vision about bringing Caius to Valhalla. Okay, obviously she didn’t want him to die. Did she think to ask for help? Just tell Caius what was going on? I mean, they had just gotten married. They were in love. Why not leave a note? Common sense here, people. Then the fact she tried to get Caius mad when he told her about the women he’d slept with… (insert eye roll emoji).
The fact Caius and Wren’s story is the same as Caine and Gaela’s—two people who can’t be together because one will die—added nothing.
On a positive note, the narrator did a great job, minus her fast speech at times. Did anyone notice Caine no longer had an accent?
Questions/Comments:
How did Caius not recognize Wren’s voice? Minus being skinny, did she look unrecognizable? When Gaela was heading home at night and ran into the two ghouls (pretending to be men), why did she turn her back on them? I mean seriously!
I found a funny mistake… When Caine wants to shower, there was a part when the narrator states that he was covered in “ogre smile.” Ogre? Maybe the narrator said ogre instead of ghoul? Seems unlikely.
I’m sure it was just me (as there don’t seem to be any other reviews questioning anything I’m questioning) but I thought it strange that after having been apart from each other for 400 years, the first sexual act Wren wants(?) to do on Caius is a blowjob. Or when she told Caius she wanted him to have sex with her like he did the “women.” How did no red flags go off in his head?
Speaking of their time apart, how many times did the author have to state they’d been separated for 400 years? I swear a lot!
Okay, so the last straw I had with this book (caused me to not want to finish) was all the repetition. There had to have been a single page where it was like every few sentences the author was repeating herself. Here are the three examples that did me in because they were basically one after another:
1. “Without a word, WITHOUT A LOOK BACK at him, she walked out. WITHOUT LOOKING BACK, she broke into a run.” 2. “WHEN SHE REACHED THE ELEVATOR, she had the feeling every damn demon that ever haunted her waking and sleeping soul for the past 400 years was now hunting. AS SHE REACHED THE ELEVATOR, her eyes skewed around…” 3. CLOSING HER EYES, Wren leaned forward until her forehead rested between her hands. SHE CLOSED HER EYES and steadied her breathing.”

Another wonderfully amazing book by Brenda Tetreault! I am loving this series! The writing and characters are excellent, and the story really pulls you in. The depth of feeling and passion these characters feel for each other is sigh worthy. I listened to the audiobook version, and once again the narrator was amazing! She also did the audiobook for the first book, and she was great reading that book too. She does multiple voices and accents, and really brings the story to life. In Salvaged, we learn more about why Caius is the way he is, and it is just heart-wrenching! Caius' wife, Wren, leaves him without telling him because she believes she will be the death of him, and after searching for her and not finding her, Caius' heart breaks and he goes down a path of destructive ways. Caius screws tons of random women, and uses his powers as Cupid's son to make the women fall into despair, and because of these actions Caius' father, Cupid, decides it is time to take drastic actions to bring his son back. I felt so bad for Caius and Wren, it was difficult to hear about the pain Caius feels due to the actions of Wren, and it was difficult to hear about his destructive ways with lots of women, but I had hope for them to find a way back to each other. The events of the past make the path difficult for Wren and Caius, and Wren's guilt eats away at her and has turned her into a harder women. Poor Wren! She made some really bad decisions, and I really felt like she should've known better as a Valkyrie that her actions could be the very thing that causes the events that she is afraid of. The depth of love and passion they feel for each other is so sweet, and when they are together the chemistry is amazing. We also get more of Caine and Gaela, which I love! Their story is another heart-wrenching story, and I so want them to have their happily ever after. Caine has been cursed to kill Gaela, the woman he loves, so he is trying to stay away from her, but these 2 want and love each other so much, they can't stay away from each other and would even rather be dead then away from the other. Follow your hearts people! I am definitely reading the next book in this series, and others from Brenda Tetreault because her books are just terrific! Definitely read this and the first book! So good!
This is a great story filled with wonderful character. I love it when I hate a character so much in one book. Then the author turns my world around and makes me reconsider my stance. I did not care for Caius in the least. He did unspeakable things. In this book we are looking deeper into him and seeing his troubles. This pains me to say but I can understand him now. This does encompass more that just Caius and his woman. We have an interconnecting story of Gaela and Caine. As wells brief looks at the couple from Book 1. We are also introduced to new characters. This is a fantasy readers dream in these books. I did listen to this on audio. Sonja Field did an amazing job on narration.
This is the second in the series and I would recommended reading them in order, for it to flow properly, especially the secondary story with Caine and Gaela.
First the narrator is good, she does talk fast though so be prepared to adjust the volume. . I found this second one wasn't as heavy on adjectives but it was still pretty present. Ie chocolate molten eyes were described several times. I appreciate how well she can describe things, but I also find there is such a thing as too descriptive and repetitive.
The story itself is interesting and I will be continuing on with the series. I'm also interested to see how the author grows/develops in their writing as the books progress.
Another wonderful tale. This one had a lot happening and a fair amount of upset and tears for me. There was so much love between these characters, and I love the loyalty as well as going to extremes to support each other. Wren and Caius definitely had me in tears as they showed their love for each other, trying to repair their relationship. I really enjoyed the story as well as the narration by Sonja Field (once again), and look forward to the next in the series.
I received a copy of this audiobook as a prize, and this is my unsolicited review.
I just CANT! The fmc is just so crap. She’s meant to be a Valkyrie! Strong, warrior! She’s scared and runs away from her problems. That really sucks. I have to give it to the author. It takes good writing to really make me dislike a character so much. I couldn’t enjoy the story much because of her, I’m sorry :(
I liked cupids character. And I like Kane, poor poor Kane.
Audio was ok tho. I do quite like the narrator chosen for this series.
Gifted audio in exchange for an honest review. 2.5 stars ⭐️⭐️
As the author of this novel, I have to say that I was surprised at how it all came about. You see, Salvaged was never meant to be written. The plan had been to write Tempted and then follow it up with Beloved, Caine and Gaela's story. But because of a small, but extremely vocal group of readers, we now have Caius' story. And I hope y'all fall in love with him as much as I did!
Thank you to Caius' fans, everywhere- this one is for you!
A great follow up to Tempted. Each of the mysterious men reveal their stories on a way that keeps you reading! I can't wait to dive into the next book.
