He’s got two reasons for getting out of bed every morning: Running his family’s empire and ruining his father.
Braxton Reyes doesn’t have time for anything else in his life. At least not until his grandfather’s will is read. The only man Braxton ever trusted has just derailed everything he’s worked for.
With the entire company at stake, Braxton must walk away from it all for six months to live in some ridiculous small town and do his grandfather’s bidding or he’ll lose it all. But they don’t call him the renegade billionaire for nothing.
He just needs to stay focused, keep his toxic family at bay, and in six months he can return to the helm. There’s just one pretty little problem.
*** She’s just getting back on her feet. She’s not about to be swept off them.
After a smooth-talking ex destroyed her life, Madison Ryan is slowly picking up the pieces while running a ramshackle inn in her tiny hometown of Happiness, Georgia.
Money is tight. So she’s grateful for her mysterious new tenant and his six-month stay, however she’s learned her lesson when it comes to falling for the charming stranger.
But every unexpected good deed, every honest late-night talk, every lingering touch, has Madison opening up in ways she never has before. He makes her feel safe, protected, cared for. Despite her best efforts, she’s falling. Hard.
Their new, fragile love is tested when Braxton’s real identity is revealed and his dark family secrets are tied to Madison’s painful past. Can she forgive the unforgivable?
I write steamy small towns with big found families—the kind of romances that make your heart race and your soul sigh.
My books, like The Westbrooks, Single Dad Hotline, and Happiness Ever After series, are filled with swoon-worthy heroes, messy but lovable heroines, and small towns you’ll want to call home.
When I'm not writing, I live in joyful chaos with my husband and four kids. You can usually find me cheering on the sidelines at their sporting events, sneaking in writing sprints, or slipping into coffee shops for my daily caffeine fix.
Or through my weekly newsletter, The Luv Notes—because in my world, there’s always room at the table for one more luv story: https://geni.us/TheLuvNotes
The first 85% was a cheesefest. This was dragged out for far too long, and tbh, I don't think it needed to be.
Then all the chaos, drama, and revelations were crammed into the final 15%. It was too much to handle and went a little overboard, or maybe it was just me and my dislike for prolonged antics.
Anyway, I wanted to like it; I really do. I always find most of this author's books enjoyable. Yet for some reason, I didn't connect with the story or the MCs. I wanted to root for them, but I feel like Madison was way too good for Braxton. If he wasn't a billionaire, I doubt he could offer her much of anything. But hey, that's just my opinion.
Anyhoo, for most of the book, not a whole lot was going on, and I got a bit bored, so I ended up skimming through some parts.

PERSONAL thought:
I gotta say, I found Brax's history with women pretty annoying. Tbf, there were only two reminders of it, but the way they were inserted in the scenes gave me the ick. I don't think he's a hoe (?), but perhaps the author just simplified his reminders, leaving it to the readers to interpret them however they want. It's clear he's had his share of experiences, while Madi had been with just ONE person her entire life and only had disappointing encounters with him.
Scene 1: Getting to know each other
“Have you really never been on a date?” “That was quick.” Leaning side to side, I stretch out my achy back. “Don’t get me wrong, I go out with Grey, and have occasionally…” Shit, this makes me sound like a dick. “I haven’t been celibate, but I guess I never met anyone that made me want to try for…more.” Until now.
According to him, he has never had a girlfriend or even gone on a date. And, his relationship with Madi was the first of its kind. Am I supposed to swoon over this fact???
Scene 2: Them going to their first date
“My intentions, sir, are to treat Madison with respect, get to know her when she isn’t everyone’s right hand, and then bring her home safely because I am a perfect gentleman.”
So what if perfect gentleman isn’t exactly what I’d call my encounters with other women? Madison isn’t other women. She’s mine.
And again, this is a me thing, but his inner monologue ruined this date for me. Why did he even have to think or mention other women? I skimmed their date scene and skipped all their spicy scenes because I was grossed out by his thought.
I’ve always been pretty vocal about how much I can’t stand double standards, and honestly, if there’s anything that can totally ruin a story for me, it’s that.
The only reason I didn’t give up on this one, even though I’ve been struggling to finish it for the past three days, was because Madi had loved her ex. He was her high school sweetheart, and she loved him with all her heart. Maybe I’m being a bit petty, but I’m really glad that Braxton isn’t the first man who got that. 💅

Not enough stars in heaven! This is Avery Maxwell’s best book yet! The writing is mature, the characters are complex, and the storyline is thrilling. Braxton Reyes and Madison Ryan meet in the most unusual of circumstances, but the complications (and love) will keep you turning pages at record speed! How? Why? When? All will be revealed! And I have to say, Brax is THE swooniest, sexiest, forthright, and engaging hero I’ve ever read! His Madison is a little scared but a lot brave. I guarantee you will fall deeply in love with both of them.
Wow, okay, it's official, guys. THE RENEGADE BILLIONAIRE has become my most favorite billionaire, small town, and slow-burn romance. Honestly, billionaire romance isn’t my typical cup of tea since most of the billionaire main characters are arrogant and squander money whenever they like. However, to my surprise, that is far from what happens in this book.
Our billionaire golden boy, Braxton Reyes, turns out to be a giant teddy bear with a heart of gold. Despite the fact that he’s sent to a small town in Georgia called Happiness (to find his happiness, heehee), he ends up doing so much good by helping out the local schools, well-loved but struggling inn, and most of all, doing his best to get to know the amazing residents there. I mean, it's a small town after all. Everybody knows everybody and whenever someone says something, whoever's next to said someone will tell another person next to him/her and so on. :D
Braxton's unwavering loyalty and love for Madison, the inn owner, knows no boundary and everything he does for her completely melts my heart. He is a real keeper! Besides, he is also the kind of guy who actually pays attention to all the tiniest details like what flavor of creamer Madison likes for her coffee, or notices how she's been busy making others' day without eating anything and then immediately fixes her a delicious grilled cheese sandwich, or double checking with her before making decisions so she's treated respectfully. *teary heart eyes*
What impresses me most is how mature the characters in this book are. Literally every single one of the characters is well-mannered and act like responsible grown-ups. I’ve got to say that sort of genuine, no-frills, and down-to-earth personality is a rare find in romcom novels so seriously? Can this book be any more perfect?
Lastly, I hope you’ll give Braxton and Madison’s story a shot! They’re totally worth it!! Now I’m waiting patiently for Grey—man, is he HILARIOUS—and Savvy’s book hopefully coming up very soon. I mean, what’s not to love when a guy’s obsessed with finding a surrogate (no girlfriend or wifey) but secretly crushing on a sassy gal named Savvy? *eyebrows wiggling*
***Massive thanks to the author and Hambright PR for providing me with an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.***
Six chapters in and I knew this book was going to be my favorite from Ms Maxwell!! The characters light up the pages with the most hilarious banter and such heart warming stories!
Braxton is a busy man, but in order to fulfill his grandfather’s last wishes and receive his inheritance, he has to go clear across the country. Find your happiness his grandfather said, but in Happiness, GA?!? Six months….he just has to stay for six months. What could happen, right?
Madison has been through so much, yet she continues to give to everyone in her little town of Happiness. So when small little acts of kindness start, she is unsure who to trust but it certainly won’t be the new man in town, Braxton. Ever so slowly he earns her trust. They meet each other where they are at in life. They both learn to live in such different ways. Until the past rears its ugly head and threatens to tear everything apart. I thought I knew where the story was going but I was blown away with the twists and turns!!
I absolutely love a story with meddling family and friends and this one is a doozy! One of my favorite reads to date!!
You’d think that there are no secrets in a small town, wouldn’t you? I mean, Happiness seems to protect their own, sure. But even their own have secrets that aren’t shared until they absolutely must be in order to keep everyone safe and aware. Braxton and Madison also have secrets, but they both keep those close for self-preservation. And it would appear that one of them is willing to burn it all to keep the other safe.
This is a town full of meddling, funny and not so funny feuds, unfortunate names that become quite fitting monikers more than once (and the 12 year old in me was waiting for each one, only to cackle in glee when they were uttered), humor, friendship, coffee or tea sides of the caffeine battle, and love. Braxton actually fits in perfectly, as do his best friend and nephew. But once people realize where they are, WHO they are, things take a turn.
If you want the zaniness of small town folklore turned current thrills and the love of a man willing to take on anything and anyone for the woman, the family, the town he’s found to be his home, then get comfortable. This is a rollercoaster of emotions and events that will leave you hoping for another tale sooner than later!
• Billionaire with a giving heart • Boss babe FMC • Small town • Meddling friends • He Falls first • Forced proximity
I know I've said it over and over again. And if you've ever talked books with me, you know how much I love Avery Maxwell's writing. From her beautiful friend circles to the swoony men she writes to the meddling elder folks who love to play matchmaker. Her writing has sucked me in for years.
I loved watching these two fall hard for each other in many different ways! While Braxton was all in, Madison was very reluctant after being burned in a previous relationship. And she had every right, and that becomes more than apparent the more we get to learn about her ex. But sweet, swoony-as-heck Braxton was not only patient, but he was ridiculously observant and incredibly good at knowing exactly where to be when she needed him. The way that he noticed just how much she needed someone to come in and take care of her the same way she took care of the town will have you swooning so hard for this man!!
Between this small town vibe and all the sweet characters, you'll be hooked and not wanting this book to end, just like I was!
I freaken LOVED the dynamic between Sage and Braxton; that kid stole my heart!
If you're looking for a book with small town vibes, a swoony, giving-hearted MMC, and a boss babe FMC, this book is definitely for you!
Braxton Reyes is the best at what he does. He's given his all to make the family business successful, but his life gets derailed at the reading of his grandfather's will. For the next six months, Braxton will be spending his time in Happiness, GA, to find his own happiness. Specifically, he'll be staying at Maisie’s Hideaway Inn, run by Madison Ryan and her grandfather, Pops.
Madison is everything to everyone and beloved by her town. But she's so busy saying yes to every demand on her time that she has trouble standing up for herself. The new long-term renter at the inn will make things easier financially, but between the inn, her podcast business, the community center, and keeping her eye on Pops and his shenanigans, Madison has no time for a relationship.
This is one of those romances that make you wish a fictional world were real. The people are vivid and quirky, and the close-knit townsfolk protect their own. The sense of community and found family is strong, and I loved watching big-city Braxton find his place in a small town with a slower pace that was so different from the familiar. I love the wit and humor of this one, and wondering what mischief Pops would get up to next, alone, makes it worth the read.
The heart of this love story is in the human connections, fierce loyalty of friends, found family, and finding one's place to belong. Funny and charming, with a side of steam and serendipitous surprises, this is easily my new favorite romance from this gifted storyteller, with my apologies to the Westcotts.
ARC Review ~ Loved the sound of this book and wow did it exceed expectations! Rating: 4.5⭐️
Braxton Reyes is a billionaire from California. When his grandfather passed he assigned the family tasks to fulfill before they could collect their inheritance.Braxtons task...to 'find his happy' in a small town called Happiness,Georgia.
There was so much depth in the plot,i loved what each character brought to the storyline. The found family aspect is always a winner for me! especially in a small town romance.
Braxton is pure swoony and Madison is absolutely the towns sweetheart! brb just adding all of Avery Maxwells books to tbr 🤭
Tropes: 🏡 Small town 🐟Fish out of water 💰 Billionaire 🙉Who hurt you? 👨👩👧👦 Found family 💘 He falls first
Thankyou Hambrightpr and Avery Maxwell for the opportunity to read this EARC.
Braxton Reyes was a dreamboat with a lot of money. When his grandfather dies, he leaves the family stipulations in order to have full access to the family trust. Braxton was sent to a small town called Happiness to do just that, find his happy.
While he's there he takes resident at the Inn which is in need of a lot of renovations and work. There he meets owner "Pops" who is one of my favorite characters in this story and soon to be love interest to Braxton, Madison. Madison is the town sweetheart so seeing these two interact together was full of sweet and tender moments. And the fact that he falls first and very hard was so sweet and melted my cold heart away.
If you like small town chaos where everyone knows your business then this one is for you. It gave me a lot of the same vibes as Lucy Scores Riley Thorton Series.
My only main issues with this book was the pacing and sometimes the craziness of what felt like to many storylines meshed into one. I loved the beginning and the more it went on, the more characters were introduced and sometimes it didn't make sense.
Thank you for my ARC Hambright PR and Avery Maxwell! I enjoyed this fun little town of loving people!
Okay, this was my first Avery Maxwell book and I was not disappointed. I’m not a huge billionaire romance fan, but I do love a small town romance and I felt as though Braxton was sweet that it didn’t make him overly obnoxious like I normally feel.
The plot of this story was so captivating. The past that both characters had with family makes you just want the best things in life to happen for them. The way I wanted to throat punch his dad is overwhelming. He made my skin crawl every time he had involvement in a chapter 😂
If you love a small town, found family vibe, you need to give this one a try. It has hallmark feels with some spice..I was not expecting this mans mouth to be so dirty 😏 but I was totally here for it.
The side characters were just as great. So different from one another, yet worked so well together. Pops was definitely my fav. That man was walking chaos and I LOVED it! Always getting into trouble, can’t tell you how many times I laughed out loud.
Just add this to your TBR. You won’t be disappointed. I can’t wait for more!!
This is my second time reading this book since its release nine months ago. I wanted to go back to Braxton and Madison before I jump into Grey and Savvy’s story.
This book is so good. If you haven’t read it, get to it. There’s so much depth in the characters. So many emotions and big/little moments. Definitely still a top read for 2025.
I’m so excited to jump into book 2.
Initial review 2/2/25
This book is everything - love, laughter, found family, healing, mystery / drama, spicy, and supportive friends and townsfolk.
I loved the story of Braxton & Madison. Pops was hilarious. This book will be in my top reads for 2025.
It’s also my first book by Avery Maxwell. I just purchased four more (plus 2 preorders). She’s now an auto buy for me.
When you are following the wishes of your recently passed grandfather and have to spend time in a city you've never heard of in Georgia for Six months. Only to find out that his plan for you has so much depth. This book has some amazing characters and protective town folk. Cannot wait to get my hands on the next book in the series.
The Renegade Billionaire is the first book in the Happiness Ever After series and it was an absolutely delightful read. It had all the perfect small town vibes you could ever want. It also had a blend of suspense and a whole lot of chaos. There are many twists that make the story move at a fast pace. There's a few different subplots which can be confusing at times, but I still managed to grasp everything.
The characters were the absolute highlight for me in this book. They were so well developed, so intricate and each had their distinctive personalities that truly enhanced the story. Madison is the sweetheart of the town, always thinking of everyone else before herself. Braxton is the billionaire with the biggest heart ever, he only wants to do good in the world and uses his money for good things. He is the swooniest man ever! They had this beautiful connection, they were both such beautiful people with the kindest hearts. Pops was an absolute blast, he was too funny. The whole town and community is absolutely charming!!
Overall, another stellar book from Avery. Lots of chaos, laughs, swoons, beautiful spice and just full on delight. I can't wait for more in this series!
✨️Thank you to @hambrightpr & @averymaxwell for my gifted ARC in exchange for an honest review.
If you’re familiar with my reviews, you might know that I need something more out of the romances I read in order to really enjoy them. I’m all for a romantic story, but I’m always on the lookout for the side stories that really make the book interesting to me.
Luckily, this book had so many other components to it, and I loved it! It made for a very fun read. There was family drama for both MCs, small town life, a pregnancy scare, scandals, and the list goes on.
I always love a small town romance, and Happiness, Georgia was the perfect setting. Throw in an MMC billionaire falling in love with the small-town sweetheart and we’ve got ourselves a romance.
This one also has some spice, which is always fun.
I’m looking forward to the second book!
Thank you to Avery Maxwell and Hambright PR for my gifted copy!
I don't know how I missed this release, but I'm so happy I went back to it because Brax and Madison were freaking everything. I absolutely adored these two and the town of Happiness. The side characters stole my heart as well and I'm so excited for what's to come.
I adored Brax and Madi's dynamic. The banter, the spice and the tender moments were all so perfect. Brax was down baddd and she wasn't much better tbh. I loved Pops and Sage and all of Madi's friends and somehow I even came to be intrigued by half of his family... I'm really hoping his siblings end up with books too...
The end was just what I was hoping for and a nice little peek into Grey and Savvy's story. Those two are gonna be the hottest of messes, but I already know they'll melt my heart just as thoroughly.
(4.7 Stars) Braxton Reyes is a powerful man and super busy. When his grandfather’s will leaves a note that derails Braxton’s busy schedule. He has to Live in a small Georgia town for six months and help restore it. Madison Ryan is overworked trying to keep her family’s inn afloat. When stranger Braxton shows up offering a hand at the most interesting moment lol. Can Braxton lay low and succeed in not only his grandfather’s wishes to his own? What a feel good romance about discovering what’s really important in your life. Get ready for some small town antics, nosy townsfolk and a sweet blossoming slow burn romance. Sometimes it’s good to slow down and reassess. Go and find your Happy! Told in first person and dual POV.
If you’re a fan of small-town romance with a heartwarming sense of community, The Renegade Billionaire is probably for you. This story is perfect for anyone who loves meddling townsfolk, a fierce love for a close-knit community, and side characters who feel more like family than friends. Add in two main characters who struggle with receiving love without giving it first, and you’ve got the emotional journey Braxton and Madi are about to go through.
This book was fun to read and had me giggling a few times. While there were moments where the pacing felt a bit slow or the story seemed to pause, I was invested enough in the characters to stick with it and see how their journey unfolded. The balance of plot and spice was spot on (although some of the dialogue felt a little disconnected from the characters we get to know), never relying solely on the romantic relationship to carry the story. The build-up to the main characters exploring their relationship was well done, and I appreciated that the author didn’t fall into the trap of instalust despite an initial meeting that had me worried it might go in that direction.
One of the standout aspects of this book was the growth of both main characters. Watching them come together while navigating their tendency to prioritize everyone else above themselves felt authentic and relatable. Their struggles with learning to trust and open up added depth to their connection and made their eventual bond feel organic.
Overall, The Renegade Billionaire is a fun, heartwarming read with fantastic side characters, heartfelt moments, and a romance that delivers. If you’re looking for a book that will make you laugh, tug at your heartstrings, and remind you of the importance of community and love, this one’s for you!
4.4 - honestly this book was EXACTLY what I needed after some heavy reads. I loled several times during this. All of the characters where chefs kiss. The found family and supportive friendships were lovely
I fear Braxton was perfect?? Like no red flags he was good from beginning to end and handled pretty much everything perfect. Any conflict came from Madison freaking out about shit and shutting down This has sooo many tropes in it but I’m not mad. I was entertained
Never have I ever been so intrigued by the next book!! It was set up so well and left so much intrigue that I can’t wait to read it!! Some could argue I have already read the first 2-3 chapters in the wee hours of the morning
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Braxton arrives in the small town as part of a will's stipulation, but the people quickly worm their way into his heart. Soon, he's trying to fix everyone's problems...and maybe even open his heart beyond the two people he holds closest.
Madison is the heart of Happiness, and I adored how fiercely the town protects her while she selflessly gives back. Her matchmaking skills are legendary--her ex, however, can take a long walk off a short cliff, and I'd cheer the whole way.
I can't say enough good things about this book, but fair warning: you'll fall hard for Madison's crew. And if the author needs bribes for Grey's story--I'm ready!!
Like a warm fuzzy blanket, Braxton and Madison have wrapped themselves around my heart.
This story was absolutely perfect! Time seemed to fly as I devoured every single word and the pictures created in my mind were so vivid that it made me feel like a part of this amazing family.
Bravo!!! Another phenomenal creation by Avery Maxwell! Five stars and so much more!!!
My first book by this author was an almost DNF. I thought maybe a more recent, as in just published, book would show improvement. My mistake-the editorial misses were so bad in just the first couple of chapters that I was repeatedly backtracking thinking I had missed some details. I hadn’t. DNF and won’t be trying this author a third time.
This is my favorite so far of Avery’s books! Maybe even may favorite so far of the genre. Starting with the opening the will at the beginning and through the angst, the love, the ups and downs. Excellent read!!!
"Find your happiness in Happiness, Georgia." Those are the instructions in the will left by Braxton Reyes' beloved grandfather, Ace. The people in the small town of Happiness, Georgia, are all about protecting Madison Ryan. Hurt by lies told to the media by her ex, Madison is weary to trust anyone, especially the guy who just dropped thousands of dollars to stay at her very much in-need-of-repairs Hideaway Inn. Braxton doesn't trust easily either, given that he was basically thrown away by his family and raised by his grandfather. Ace's meddling, by way of stipulations in his will, reveal secrets that will change Braxton and Madison's worlds forever. Madison's own grandfather, Pops, is a comical whirlwind of trouble that will have you laughing so hard you cry. The townsfolk, including Madi's best friends, rally around the couple to help them to their HEA. I have read Avery Maxwell's books since Cross My Heart. Her small town, billionaire romances are full of found family, struggles, quirky townsfolk and all the steam and romance you can find. Each book gets deeper and stronger as Maxwell embraces her talents as an exceptional writer and storyteller. Just like her characters who lean on a circle of found friends, the romance community has surrounded her with the love and friendship she writes about. Find your Happiness in an Avery Maxwell book.
As a condition of his grandfather’s will, Braxton Reyes must spend six months in Happiness, Georgia, in order to claim his inheritance. He has to find a purpose for being there and figure out what makes him happy. When he checks into the Hideaway Inn, he meets Madison and Pops who run the place. The spark between Brax and Madison is instant, and the people of the small town start to accept Brax as one of their own. When ghosts from the past rear their ugly heads, will Brax and Madi be able to save the town and their relationship?
I freaking love this book. It’s got everything - charm, romance, heart, spice, and humor. The characters are amazing. There’s a found family, girl squad situation going on, and I’m here for it. The small town of Happiness is charming and delightful with inhabitants who are quirky and protective of their own. Braxton is the perfect book boyfriend, and Madi is sweet and strong. I love all the side characters and can’t wait for more books in this series. So, great characters - The relationships between all the different characters are sweet and loving. The friendships are strong. Braxton and Madison deliver the heat! The plot is rich and dynamic, and the world building is perfection. Do yourself a favor and read this book. And excuse me while I go check out Avery Maxwell’s backlist.
I highly recommend The Renegade Billionaire. Read it and let me know what you think - I’d love to discuss!
Braxton and Madison’s story is heartwarming, fun, and adorable!
🩷Small town romance 🩷Billionaire romance 🩷He falls first 🩷Found family
When Braxton is forced to move to Happiness, he indeeds finds happiness.
Madison is the local inn-keeper and jack of all trades. She is the town sweetheart and the person who everyone comes to when they need something.
Braxton is here to make a change, and anonymously he starts to make changes in so many people’s lives in town. I loved how Braxton changed quickly into his new role in the small town, compared to corporate, suit wearing Braxton.
Pops is the best kind of side character - he is hilarious and has the best schemes to make his granddaughters life better.
This book was so sweet and I can’t wait to read Greyson and Savvy’s story!
Such a great small town book with so many fantastic characters. Braxton and Madison were such easy characters to quickly become attached to and their story was an easy read without a lot of angst. I loved the banter with Pops and “the boy”. I can already see so many more great stories coming from Happiness, Georgia.
Genre & Tropes : romance contempo x small town romance x Friends To Lovers x Billionaire x Awful ex x Awful family x Spicy
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
A cute and sexy romance that is a very quick read!
I enjoyed reading this romance that had all the ingredients to please me : an original plot (with a twisted will like in a Christmas TV movie xD), a meet-cute so funny, endearing characters, a romance that is both cute and sexy (the date on the field under the stars !), a nice plot (with an evil ex and family !) and a small town and sitcom atmosphere that I loved =)
It's not a favorite because Madison really annoyed me sometimes (especially the part where she learns who Braxton's father is ...) and because I would have liked a more developed plot and resolution with Madison's ex and also Braxton's father …
And the part towards the end with Grey who wants to adopt a child was a bit ... weird ??!
In short, a cute romance that I read with pleasure ! I'm still looking forward to the book with Grey !
