On the surface, Indy Lewin-Kaminsky is many shy kid, rebel, book lover, boot lover, physics nerd. Beneath the surface, she harbors secret former dead girl, crazy-pants wearer, UFO prognosticator, girl crushing on bad-boy jock Sawyer Reyes, and beloved fringe internet radio host, Orion.

After drowning in the Holy Ghost River in fifth grade, Indy was miraculously resurrected. At the time, she swore a creature with neon eyes saved her, but her doctors wrote it off as oxygen deprivation. Now, in her junior year of high school, she’s started channeling coordinates. Vexed by the phenomena, Indy anonymously launches the late-night internet radio show, True North, hoping listeners will help her figure out what her numbers mean. But as Indy’s coordinates usher in bona fide UFO sightings and her radio show morphs from fringe entertainment to internet phenomenon, True North jump-starts a high school rebellion that complicates everything. The truth is out there, and Indy’s burgeoning romance with Sawyer may be key. But unlocking it means unmasking Orion, risking an alien invasion, and endangering her friends and family.

I highly recommend this book to any fans of the genre, it will probably suit your tastes.

Was this book flawless? Not at all.
Is it the best piece of literature ever written? Definetly not.
Did this book hold me in a deathgrip untill i finished it? Yes it did.

There are a lot of things I can say about this book, both positive and negative.

First off, for my personal taste the start of the book had way too many adjectives. It took the flow of reading away from me foe a bit but I feel like it recovered about a third way into the book. It may just have been me who noticed it but it is one of the reasons this book didn't get 5 stars.

Secondly, I did NOT see the twist at the end coming. Books that surprise me are very rare and this book did a phenomenal job at that. I really liked that aspect.

As a third note, I really liked the love-interest (not really what makes or breaks a book but it definetly helped) and I was really rooting for the romances in this book! The way there just happened to be a pansexual character in there without the need to elaborate on that aspect of her made me really happy! Very well done.

Next up, the only other "problem" I had with the book was the fact that they evaded telling the big secret for so long. At the end of almost every chapter they are about to mention it and there was always an excuse not to. I get why it was important to implement this in the book but it was something I personally found a bit frustrating. Especially because every time I thought it was going to happen right then.

Lastly, I could not put this book down. I'm not a very big scifi reader but I physically could not stop reading. (Did i stay up at 4am while I had to wake up at 7? Maybe) I read it in one sitting and I was so hooked. The story really pulled me in and I loved that about the book. There were enough twists and reveals to really keep the story flowing.

All in all, this is a great fiction novel and I hope everyone gets as much joy out of it as I did

What a wonderful story! I absolutely loved Indy and Sawyer. The story starts with a bang introducing the characters and setting the scene and keeps you engaged right to the end. (Yes, I read it in 24 hrs… I couldn’t get enough)

There are enough nerdy references to take me back to when I was Indy’s age and the crescendo at the end was akin to a great episode of X Files. (And yes, I am that old) The Truth is well and truly Out There.

Thank you for allowing me to go on the journey with Indy and her friends and I hope that there’s more to come.

Indy is a 17 year old who since drowning as a child believes in UFOs and has set up a pirate radio station to voice her opinions. She 'see's' numbers which turn out to be location co-ordinates for up coming UFO sighting locations. Things get interesting when a caller informs her that They are searching for something and heading her way.

This is a Young Adult story containing friends, crushes, romance, being an outcast and of course aliens. It has a Paul/ Escape to witch mountain vibe which if you love those films then this book if definitely for you. If you like Meg Cabot books you will love this book.

The miscommunication in this book is what made me give it 3 stars. Almost as if the main characters most of the time are having two different conversations when speaking with each other and never actually come out and ask or answer the main issues they have. It was a little frustrating.

The twist in the book had the potential to answer some earlier questions that readers will have but as far as I can remember it is never outrightly gives you any clarity to confirm your suspicions. (This statement might make more sense after you read the book).

Overall the structure and the characters in this book are well written. My dislike of the miscommunication troupe is my own and should not prevent people from reading this book. The ending of the book is a HEA but it also leaves the story open for more books to come.

LESSONS LEARNT FROM THE STORY

🤳🏾We learn talking to a lady right as discussed on Sawyer talking to Indy.

🤳🏾The difference between friendships and dating relationship as the latter involved making out;pleading undying faith and love and spilling deepest or darkest feeling while the former was different.

🤳🏾Broadcasting and its link with objectivity, fact finding and proof of those facts is learnt from the advice to Indy.

APPLICATION OF LESSONS LEARNT FROM THE STORY

The attract of audience to fact and objectivity in broadcasting, communication and journalism can not be overemphasized

Once the book hooks you with its claws you’ll have no choice but to finish the book as soon as possible. The characters were wonderfully constructed especially the main leads Sawyer and India. The characters are realistic and behave like people their age. There were also interesting unconventional characters like India’s parents. The friendships, the relationships were all beautifully constructed.

The library scenes were one of my favorite scenes in the book. I have not read a lot of books where the girl drives and the boy rides shotgun. That was something new here and the book opens a lot of conversations. Love how casual and normal it was when it was revealed that one of the characters was pansexual.

It took me a short time to get hooked to the plot and the writing. The plot at the beginning of the book seemed to be a bit slow, but the later parts made up for it. The writing was also very engaging. The plot twist towards the end – DID NOT EXPECT!

Usually sci-fi books are really complicated. But this one was quite simplified and seemed to happen not too far off in the future. True North was the first sci-fi novel I read in a while and it has brought me back the urge to read more sci-fi.

True North – a realistic, dystopian, refreshing read.

This was a good story that was reminiscent of "Close Encounters of the Third Kind". Definitely not the same story, but some similar vibes and tropes.

The character development is nicely done. Indy and the (eventual) gang of 6 (or 7) teenagers are fully three-dimensional. Indy's relationship and trust issues with Sawyer evolve in ways that feel right for kids in high school.

The terroir of the greater Sante Fe area provides a fitting background for the story arc. You might want to pull out a map to follow the coordinates and sites of the group's adventures.

I enjoyed the book and recommend it for young adults and those that remember being that age.

True North is another fun, engaging read by Jennifer G. Edelson. Her characters are spunky, and her books always make me feel young. I appreciate the sci-elements of this book, which were informative but not overwhelming. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys YA fiction.

I really enjoyed this book! While the main characters were high schoolers, it didn't read like the typical YA story. The story was well-written and the pacing was good. There were no villains and nothing bad happened - not at all like real life - but there was suspense and action.

It was tough for me to get into this book. Although it was a relatively quick and easy read, it started out slowly, and it wasn't easy to buy into the characters and their stories and personalities, even taking into consideration that it is a soft sci-fi book. It was different, though, and I did enjoy a fresh book that wasn't like the normal YA book plots that I tend to read.

Indy's character is a hardcore feminist, and I love that about her. She truly takes no crap from anyone.

The first half was slow and somewhat drawn out, but the second half went much more quickly, and I am glad I finished this novel. The ending was really smart, and for some conspiracy theorists, could be potentially realistic!
