New York Times bestselling horror author Jonathan Maberry presents the chronicle of the first Vampire War in V-Wars! This all-new tale leading into this summer's ongoing V-Wars series offers the first salvo in the battle between humans and hundreds of new species of vampires!
Omg ..... that was FREAKING AWESOME! Cool old school front cover that conveyed the story to come. Wonderful artwork, story and lettering that was set out well and easy to follow, with bonus pages towards the end set out as Top Secret documents. Those bonus pages filled in not only back story but also gave the reader a firm foundation for understanding issues to come. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this as a quick prequel read to future issues.
It's Mayberry so it's well done but it galaxies away from original. If you want to read the walking dead again, this would substitute adequately. It's the same story with vampires instead of zombies.
I think I'm done with the apocalyptic stuff until something original comes out like The Stand, Swan Song, or In His Image.
Much better than the V-Wars compilation. Maberry's writing and story arc were much more interesting in that book; and now to enjoy them again with these vampires, is awesome.
I really love the different species, the relationships between humans and how fractured they are. It makes you wonder if there would be hope for anyone, if these things were to happen. You know how lame our government is to act; and when they finally do, it is with ridiculous policy.
Ah, well. Vampires, vamps, and things that go bump in the night. I am ready for this series.
"How can we afford not to be monsters when only a monster can survive?"
My first Jonathan Maberry.. I love the story, people turning into vampires because the Professor thinks that it is just a disease, but the government wants all infected to be eliminated. Ahh at some parts it was saddening. This is all good.
I wonder if there is a full version of this, because this one was only 29 pages short. And I want more!
Still free and read it on my Kindle Fire. Takes some of the parts from the V-Wars novel. Loved the graphic ending. These are blood sucking & flesh eating vampires (and several other types). Having read the novel I plan to read this series. I have paper copies of issues 3, 4, 5, and 6 (which features Joe Ledger from the Patient Zero storyline.
I got this because it was free and found myself liking it so much I had to go and get the rest. This is a little more dark than I usually do my comics, since I want something more frothy or at least my X-Men and other superheros. These vampires and the way they are introduced makes for a very interesting story that is well worth the time spent. Read the book and read these or vice versa, you will not be disappointed.
Only the first chapter of the story, but a great read and a harsh ending. I thought this was a great read and it would be nice to read the next chapter.
I won this in a goodreads giveaway! Super excited about it! "They are already here. They hide among us. They hunt us. They feed on us. They are us." - VWars When melting Artic ice releases a virus, it triggers dormant genes from junk DNA. The genes that once created vampires. Now, all over the world, people are beginning to transform. To develop unnatural and unstoppable hungers. Are they still human? Or is there now a brand new link in the food chain?
I am hooked and obsessed with this comic book series already. It starts with a look into the journal of Luther Swann, Ph.D. It is told from his perspective which is interesting because he doesn't excatly view the Vampires as monsters like so many do. He thinks there is a way to help them and possibly live in harmony. However a war has begun between the vampires and the humans. The vampires are forced to defend themselves. Awesome narrative and great illustrations. Definitely a comic book for mature audiences. Intense and raw, I am loving it. If you like comics and/or vampires you need to check this series out. You will not be dissapointed. Five Stars.
It was a good introduction into the conflict. The art was good, the story itself is interesting, somewhat unique in that it is being told from a scholars perspective. One that is being sent to war yes, but he's still talking about the vampires from a scientific and humanitarian point of view. I enjoyed the top secret reports at the end, made you feel like you were an even greater part of the story. I also enjoy the realistic depiction of the American government trying to handle war on home turf.
Set against the backdrop of a virus that creates a global outbreak of vamparisim, this story focuses on Dr. Swann, a professor who was the expert on Vampires before they became real, who is thrust into a battle he isn't sure he believes in. Without giving away the ending, he has even more questions by the end of the book. Anyone who grew up in the 80's reading the X-Men will recognize the themes in the story but will probably enjoy it.
In theory you can have a lot of vampires in your mythoi. In practice anything that preys on humans tend to quickly weed out the general population. Even an ordinary group of terrorists can drop a lot of civilians. This comic is good but it may take longer to cover t h e end of the world than it would take to accomplish this goal. Like mash the tv series lasted longer than the Korean war did.
Sadly its short and designed to hook you. The premise shows potential. Have to decide if I want to spend bucks to get the subsequent books...but I do like this small taste
I love Maberry's writing. I was super stoked to see he's working on comics. This issue was a good intro. Really digging the new mythos Maberry's concocted.
There are so many better choices for this type of book better art- better story. Wish I could recommend this book ,sadly this is not the case mediocre at best.
