I was never supposed to fall for my best friend’s brother. But then he touched me like he meant it.
Griffin Knox is cocky, reckless, and way too hot for his own good. He’s also off-limits—not just because he’s a rising football star, but because he’s her brother. My best friend’s.
So when our study abroad program sticks me in a hotel room with him—for two entire weeks—in Mexico, I promise myself I can handle it.
I was wrong.
One tequila-fueled dare turns into a kiss I can’t stop thinking about. Then another. And another. Suddenly we’re sneaking around like it’s a game we’re both too stubborn to lose.
The banter? Infuriating. The chemistry? Off the charts. The rules? Completely out the window.
We said it would be a mistake. We swore no one could ever know. But somewhere between midnight bets and sun-drenched mornings, I stopped pretending I didn’t want more.
If this gets out, it could ruin everything. But what if the real risk isn’t falling for him— It’s letting him go?
The Rookie is a flirty, fiery standalone sports romance with a golden-retriever jock, his best friend’s off-limits girl, and enough heat to turn paradise into a scorched earth zone. High spice, high stakes, HEA guaranteed.

E Avery? Quanto a lungo riuscirà a sfuggirgli? Fate partire il cronometro e preparatevi a sbirciare nel loro mondo, ma soprattutto in quello che li ha portati ad evitarsi come la peste. O forse è apparenza?
I love books that have witty bantering between the couple with sizzling chemistry, and an unrequited love. Apparently, this is the latest installment in the Kings of Cocky series, however, I am late to the party. I love this book's delivery heat and charm that comes rolling off the pages with such a sexy seductive ease. This book delivers all the zest and charisma you could want! We meet Avery Sinclair, who is an intelligent, strong-willed, and a woman who is determined not to fall for bestie Cassie's brother, Griffin Knox.
He’s impossible to ignore he’s the ultimate tight end with a cocky, dirty-talking, hint of dominance, and irresistible golden retriever energy. Yet, he carries a secret to Mexico that surprises Avery and changes her outlook on how she views Griffin. They have an “opposites attract” perfection, with banter and instant chemistry that practically leaps off the pages. From the moment I started reading I fell in love with Griffin’s teasing and vulnerable charm,
I couldn’t put the book down. Griffin’s bold line, “Haven’t you ever wanted to break the rules…even just once?” That sums up the electric tension between these two perfectly. This is a forbidden romance, steamy encounters, Avery and Griffin’s story takes you on a trip you won’t want to end. But in close quarters what can you expect? Even with their “no strings attached” agreement, what happens in Mexico refuses to stay in Mexico and I don't think they wanted it to either.
Gavin was a chump. The Rookie is a must-read. Clear your day for Griffin Knox, he won’t let you put this one down!
If you’re a fan of sizzling romance, witty banter, and undeniable chemistry, drop everything and grab The Rookie, the latest installment in the Kings of Cocky series. This book delivers all the heat and charm you could want!
Meet Avery Sinclair, a smart, strong-willed brunette determined to resist falling for her best friend’s brother, Griffin Knox. But Griffin is impossible to ignore—he’s the ultimate tight end with a cocky, dirty-talking edge, a hint of dominance, and irresistible golden retriever energy. Their “opposites attract” dynamic is perfection, with banter and instant chemistry that practically leaps off the page.
From the moment I picked it up, I couldn’t put it down, devouring the entire book in one day. Griffin’s bold line, “Haven’t you ever wanted to break the rules…even just once?” sums up the electric tension between these two perfectly. Spoiler alert: I did break the rules, prioritizing this book over everything else.
Set against a backdrop of forbidden romance and steamy encounters, Avery and Griffin’s story takes you on a trip you won’t want to end. Even with their “no strings attached” agreement, what happens in Mexico refuses to stay there—and thank goodness for that.
If you’re looking for a romance packed with heat, humor, and heart, The Rookie is a must-read. Clear your schedule—Griffin Knox won’t let you put this one down!
I was honoured to receive this advance copy of this book and this isy honest review.
Being that Avery is best friends with Griffin's sister they have known each other for years.
Griffin and Avery go on an educational trip to Mexico. Because the school had to cut costs this meant Avery & Griffin have no choice but to share a room.
Everyone has always associated Griffin's reputation as a player and being cocky. Griffin never corrected anyone when they commented on this.
Avery has the reputation of not being impulsive and also uptight.... Will we find out if there is any of their reputations are true or false.
Avery thinks that there is something wrong with Griffin..... After all he must be allergic to wearing clothes.... Apart from white towels!!!!..... (Swoon!)
The hate crush in this book is as hot as the temperature in Mexico. Their banter was filled with so much laughter there are so many parts that I was laughing out loud.
I love this book so much I have already read it twice. This is worth more than 5 stars
What another great read from this author. Let’s add a few more 🌶’s to the spiciness. Its gettin hot in here (so hot). Best friend's off limits hot irritating younger brother. Two weeks in Mexico stuck together in the same room. The banter between Avery and Griffen are laugh out loud with maybe a few snorts mixed in there. If I seriously had liquid in my mouth it would have been sprayed across the room. The spicy scenes were panty melting hot and full of lust. The very talented MMC Griffen was a total cocky golden retriever with always a smile on his face. Such a charmer. The FMC Avery is intelligent and has her sights set on the future. Oh! Let's not forget that FMC is smokin 'hot. Throw a little of Avery’s BF and then X-BF in the mix to get some great twists. The story line flowed brilliantly between all characters. I highly recommend this enemies to lovers, Laugh-out-loud rom-rom.
What a fantastic story! It had the perfect lighthearted tone, mixed with plenty of laugh-out-loud moments and sizzling love/hate chemistry. Griffin Knox, a rookie tight-end for Dallas, is about to have his world turned upside down when a spring break in Mexico leads to him sharing a room with none other than his sister’s best friend, Avery. They're complete opposites, yet their playful banter feels like something out of a married couple's routine. It’s clear from the start that once they let their guards down, these two are bound to be something special. The witty exchanges and hilarious group moments had me in stitches. I truly loved every minute of it. This was a steamy, entertaining story from start to finish, and the Knox family is absolutely a joy to read about. I can't wait for the next instalment!
So, apparently this is the fourth book I have read so far by this author. Huh, I hadn't realized that when I started it.
Griffin and Avery have known each other for years, because Avery is his sister's best friend from high school. They have never gotten along and argue like an old married couple. But then everything changes when they both go to the same abroad program in Mexico (honestly, I don't know how useful could it be to learn Spanish by going to a beach in Mexico for two weeks; at least, everything that was written in spanish was right, unlike many other books, where authors seem to use an outdated version of google translator). Anyways, they obviously succumb to the chemistry, specially considering that for some inexplicable reason they are sharing a room.
Highlights: 🩷Enemies to Lovers 🩷Roommates/Forced Proximity 🩷Golden Retriever MMC 🩷Best Friend’s Brother 🩷Hate Crushes 🩷He Falls First
Thoughts: I absolutely adored this book- it was so good. I think it was the banter between them that made it so fun and lighthearted. Griffin was so sweet and loveable behind his cocky persona. There was absolutely no way Avery could resist this charming sexy guy. Griffin will be your favourite book boyfriend too if you give him a chance!
🛑I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
What a fun and quick read! This is everything if you’re a fan of enemies-to-lovers, best friend’s brother, and forced proximity. The tension between the main characters is so palpable from the beginning I could hardly put it down. The slow burn rivalry mixed with undeniable attraction kept me invested in their story, and every moment of their growing connection had me swooning.
The spice? Perfection! The passion between these two is off the charts and the moments where they can no longer deny their chemistry? Absolute fireworks! But beyond the heat there’s so much heart and funny moments. If you’re looking for a book, that’s hot, full of tension, and leaves you with a full heart and a smile on your face, this is it!
This book had me laughing out loud!! The dynamic between Avery and Griffin was amazing!
⭐Enemies to lovers ⭐Forced proximity ⭐BFFs brother🏈
When Avery and Griffin have to room together in Mexico for a spanish immersion program his Junior Year, there are a lot of rules in place. But one night and some tequila later, Avery is breaking all her rules. But what happens in Mexico stays there!!
A year and a half later, Griffin's sister wants him to put in a good word for Avery for a job. Griffin is a first round draft pick rookie.
Whole all his teammates are social with the ladies, Knox(Griffin) can't stop thinking about Avery.
Happy to have read this as an ARC THANKS MICKEY MILLER.
he knows how to deliver 🌶️🌶️ and so many laugh out loud moments
Sweet and spicy best describes Griffin Knox’s character and he is the missing piece for Avery too bad she doesn’t know it. But when she finds herself together with Griffin in the hot Mexican heat, she finds herself doing something she has been fighting. What happens next was a scorching yet enduring romance story that did not disappoint. I love the steamy chemistry between the characters and Griffin’s sweetness towards Avery as they have a temporary relationship that will test their feelings. Will they find their forever? One click to find out in this newest addition to the sports romance series that will leave you wanting more. And your in luck because I can’t wait for Jackson Knox’s story.
Griffin has had a crush on his sister’s best friend for years. Griffin went on a learning trip to Mexico when he was in college. Avery could not believe when she saw Griffin on the plane to Mexico. She hates Griffin. At the hotel they end up rooming together and one drunken night they have sex. Three years later Griffin has women falling all over him since he is rich and a football player. Griffin can only think of Avery. The chemistry is hot. Will Griffin ever get another chance with Avery? Will Avery change her feelings for Griffin? I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
Holy Smokes, Avery & Griffin were awesome, I loved these characters. This story was filled with laugh out loud moments, crazy banter & it was so spicy, it overtook the Mexican heat! Avery has been IT for Griffin since the first time he laid eyes on her. She however, took the best friends little brother way to far! She steered clear of him for several yrs, but Mexico, its Salsa bars & tequila broke down her walls. Grif was the perfect match to her & lifted her up & praised her for being herself & being a smart woman chasing her dreams. It took this couple a long time to figure things out, but when they did, watch out! This story was a four pepper spicy for sure! Enjoy!
Griffin is a professional football player who comes across as confident and charming. He has a past when it comes to Avery, his best friend’s sister, so now that they find themselves sharing a room in Mexico the biggest challenge may be denying his feelings for her.
Avery is in her final year of college and focused on her studies. She finds Griffin infuriating so having to share a room with him will be a test of patience and self control. Let the antics begin!
The interactions between them are humorous and the heat between them intense as Griffin and Avery finally acknowledge what their antagonist behavior to each other really means.
Mickey Miller nailed the enemies to lovers, siblings best friend, off-limits Romance with this sweet and spicy sports romance!
The pages in this story are filled with fire and Ice. The banter back and forth is Laugh Out Loud hilarious. The chemistry between Avery & Griffin is undeniably heartwarming with a heat that just won't quit.
They're both fighting whays ment to be even if their hearts are screaming for them to just go for it. I love the way Mickey Miller give us the emotional ride of these two characters and keeps us on the edge of anticipation.
Griffin and Avery is a slow burn that keeps you wrapped up. Enemies to lovers that has the right amount of banter between the two and the chemistry the tension between them makes this hard to out down.
Forced proximity forbidden love secret crush. This story has it all reading their story will keep you wanting more. A few twist and turns but fate puts these two where they needed to be. What happens in Mexico stays in Mexico or does it. This HEA has the right amount of spice and banter to make it hard to put down. Mickey never disappoints. Fun Sexy read.
This book was thoroughly delightful in every way. Griffin is easily one of my new favorite Mickey Miller MMCs. Get to reading The Rookie ASAP. Really exceptional laugh out loud moments and the steam is super good. This book is an amazing way to spend a winter day cozied up inside with a hot beverage and a blanket. And you know once Griffin starts making corny jokes and Avery starts laughing at them it’s about to go to a whole other level. This trip to Mexico turns out to be everything and more for both of them. Get this book now and see for yourself.
This is a funny light hearted read. Avery is taking an educational trip to Mexico. When she boards the plane she sees that her best friends brother Griffin is also on this trip. And then when they get to the hotel she learns that she’s going to have to share a room with Griffin. They have a strong love/hate relationship. But Griffin has always had a thing for Avery. The banter between them is funny. And there’s plenty of chemistry. I love Mickeys sports romance books. And this one does not disappoint.
This was a great, fun read! I liked the chemistry between Griffin and Avery - they really walked the line between "enemies" and "more". The forced proximity allowed them to learn so much about each other, which was great and needed - because even though they've known each other for years thanks to Avery being Griffin's sister's best friend, they don't know everything about each other.
The little plot twists here and there were nice, especially the one about Griffin (no spoilers here!), and just made for an all around enjoyable book.
The Rookie was an amazing enemies-to-lovers, best friend’s brother, and forced proximity story. This book had the perfect mixture of love/hate chemistry and laugh out loud banter. The tension, slow burn rivalry, and the undeniable attraction between Griffin and Avery kept me hooked from the beginning and left me wanting more. These two are complete opposites, but opposites do attract, and in this case once these two let their guard down sparks fly. This was very entertaining and I can’t for more!
Oh my goodness, I love these main characters. Avery and Griffin have crazy chemistry, but he is her best friend's brother, and this means they both fight the attraction despite their forced proximity on this Mexican adventure.
Without spoilers, I loved that we get to see what happens when they truly see each other for who they are, not just who they seem to be. Long live tequila and questionable decisions!
What happens in Mexico doesn’t always stay in Mexico it was meant to be nothing more than 2 weeks of fun because they supposedly couldn’t stand each other and she was forbidden to him his older sisters best friend but the girl of his every dream. This was such a good book the fine line between love and hate. His desire to see her not just happy but thriving because she deserves the world even if it meant slowly breaking his heart because they are apart, and oh the spice was delicious.
Loved Avery and Griffin. These two had chemistry that was off the charts. It’s a love hate relationship until it isn’t. They have a past, secrets and feelings neither got over from. Avery has always been Griffin's crush for as long as he could remember and when fate put them together in Mexico he couldn’t risk not taking the chance to be with her. No strings and what happens in Mexico stays in Mexico, or does it. Their story is emotional, sweet, funny and a definite must read.
What happens in Mexico stays in Mexico, until it doesn’t. Just when I thought Asher was off the charts, in comes Griffen. He will put all his feelings behind just for a few days with his sister’s best friend, his obsession. After Avery follows her dream to study abroad, she is back after over a year. And no matter how hard she tries to deny it, she wants him as much as he wants her. Griffen and Avery are 🌶️🌶️
I feel like I repeat myself with each new Mickey Miller book I read, but this book was one of his best to date. The love hate pull, the sexual chemistry, and the hilarious moments are plentiful as well ultimately the romance and HEA ending for 2 very strong & independent character are perfect. I loved the slight nod to previous books with the appearance of characters related to a current character. It’s safe to say, I can’t wait for the next story where it includes nods to this one or not.
Loved the banter & spice 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ Chemistry was slow burn & the relationship was a great build up…friendship ….forbidden hook up…foreign country…close proximity HATE CRUSH & spicy hook ups!! Let’s just say overall it’s a fulfilling reading experience with all the boxes checked for me. M&M delivers again The Rookie took MVP for me this weekend 10/10 recommend 📖
This book really hit me in the feels. Griffin is just such a romantic without realizing it. The obsession with out being creepy is just... awe! How Avery denied him is beyond me. The steam in the book is WOW! Slow burn and enemies, to friends, to lovers, is running the whole gambit.
Mickey does it once again making me wish my book boyfriend could teach my hubby a few things!
This book was the perfect hate crush book. I'm not usually a romcom fan but this book sucked me in from the start! The banter and chemistry was beautifully written, I laughed out loud and few times. The male hottest virgin was an unexpected twist. I loved that there wasn't an overthinking "betrayal". They simply lived their dreams and then came back together!
