Jessica Mosely is the last woman I should be thinking about.
She was my college sweetheart. The one that got away. Now she’s back—in my office, looking like sunshine in yoga pants, and asking for my legal help. She’s back, and she brought her two daughters, who are convinced the Maine Coon cat forced upon me is some kind of Disney sidekick. (He’s not. He’s Satan with whiskers.)
I’m a grumpy over-forty lawyer who lives by rules and craves routine. Jess is chaos and coconut-scented optimism. Every time she smiles, I’m twenty again—and falling harder than ever.
She drags me to yoga and ropes me into karaoke. I’d do anything for her. Even drink the pickle smoothies her daughters whip up for me. Why? Because Jess makes me want to laugh louder, live messier, and risk everything for a second chance.
The question is—can a grumpy cat dad really become the bonus daddy she and her girls deserve?
In High School, Daphne Elliot was voted “most likely to become a romance novelist.” After spending the last decade as a corporate lawyer, she has finally embraced her destiny. Her small town steamy novels are filled with flirty banter, sexy hijinks, and lots and lots of heart.
Daphne is a coffee-drinking, hot-sauce loving introvert who spends all her free time in her garden. She lives on a small farm in New England with her husband, two kids, two dogs, twelve backyard chickens and a hive of Italian honeybees.
This was fine. I started off w high hopes but it all just felt a bit unbalanced and by the end, it just kept dropping stars. Mostly because I really didn’t like the FMC.
Brian is a 41 yr old lawyer and perpetually single, by choice. He is shocked when his ex girlfriend, Jess (41; the one who got away) from college shows up in his office 20 yrs later to get help w a legal issue w her kids. She wants to move them to Vermont and her ex husband is an asshat deadbeat dad who is fighting her.
They can’t be together bc he’s her lawyer, blah blah… she’s learning how to deal w being a strong single woman after a terrible marriage blah blah. I felt very little spark or chemistry between them, which made me sad. By the end of the story, I wanted her to have her shit together and she didn’t until the last 3% of the book. She just strung him along and it annoyed me.
- No third act breakup-ish. Jess asked for “space” right after his friend died and after he’d cried and told her how important she was to him. It was short lived but annoying and mean. - Communcation was terrible. Why couldn’t they just have an adult conversation? “Hey, I like you but I’m your lawyer, why don’t we hang out and get to know each other since, you know, it’s been 20 yrs”. He drives to Vt without even texting her that he’s coming. Like huh? Why? Even at the end, she asks for space instead of actually talking w him. It’s immature and annoying. - No OM/OM- he hasn’t been w anyone in years and she hasn’t been w anyone since her ex-husband. - Spice - this was slow burn w little chemistry. The spicy scenes were bland. They started at around 60% - Found family - this is the third in the series so we get the other brothers, their kids and spouses. We also get a free glimpses of the momcom crew. Jess has two daughters who are 10 and 12, Kit and someone else, Gwen? Idk. - mental health rep- sort of. He goes to therapy to help him get more in touch w his emotions ?; she alludes to prior therapy but she needed to be in therapy now. - Dual POV. HEA. They’re going to split time between VT and NYC. I know, shocking 🙄. I’m sure there’s more in the extended epilogue which I didn’t care enough to read.
This was fine. I liked Brian and I had sympathy for Jess until the last 20% when she just kept complaining that she was a mess but didn’t seek help or doing anything except run poor Brian thru the ringer. Even her kids were giving him garbage smoothies to test him - wtf??? And he was a simp for all of it. “It’s okay Jess, I’ll do anything for you.”. Ugh. She doesn’t deserve your devotion.

this entire series was a blast from start to finish. I absolutely loved seeing all three of these guys get their HEA and especially loved Brian getting the family he deserved.
✨ Rom Com ✨ Single Mom ✨ Second Chance ✨ Grumpy x Sunshine
Daphne’s writing never fails to makes me laugh and keep me hooked and this one was now exception. I also loved that Brian and Jessica finally got their second chance after really being “the one that got away” for each other all these years. Their tension and the slightly forbidden aspect of their relationship just really make this book a delicious slow burn.
And honestly, what really loved was the way Brian got his family and bonded with Jess’s kids. I will always fall hard for people who step up for kids that aren’t theirs. All in all this was a perfect ending to a really fun series and I absolutely loved every second of it!
4.65⭐️ | 2.5🌶 Definitely my favourite in the trilogy! I loved it so much I finished it in just over 24 hours. The yearning, Brian's relationship with the girls, the found family! Gah I was a puddle. Brian's book was definitely worth saving for last. I loved how by now everyone had grown and the character development across the series was really evident. So curious about Maplewood. Thank you to luna literary for this arc.
Daphne Elliot for the #win! *heart eyes* That’s not to say that Brittanee & Jenni’s stories weren’t great as well, but Bonus Daddy hit so many good places in my heart that I just about swooned and/or laughed my way thru the entire story! Daphne’s style makes me feel giddy. I recently found her work and devoured her Maine Lumberjacks series and I loved those stories so much that I have every possible book written by her on my kindle right now! The humor she writes in her stories is authentic and brings me joy while making me burst out laughing. Her characters are genuine, real and relatable. Her stories feel like stories that could happen to any one of us. Realism shines thru every single time and as far as fleshing out her plots, she is incredible at it.
Brian & Jessica were absolute joy and Jessica’s girls were the cherry on top of a sundae! Even throughout all the deep emotions in the story, there was a levity and sense of hope that clung to every circumstance. It made it that much easier to root for these four and their ❤️sweet spot❤️ that much more satisfying!
I loved listening to the Momcoms series and cannot wait until I can binge-listen to these Dadcoms! It is sure to be an epic party in my ears!
This book was the sparkly crown jewel sitting on top of this series. Each installment kept leveling up, but this one? This one strutted in like, “I’m the favorite now, deal with it.” And honestly, two reasons sealed the deal for me:
1. Later-in-life main characters (justice for the 30+ hotties!) 2. A delicious setup for Daphne’s new series, which I am now feral for.
Brian is the quiet one in the background the whole series. Calm, logical, a workaholic with the emotional expression of a well-dressed houseplant. He's been there for everything all this time, but never was able to get a piece of the magic for him. Then comes Jess and suddenly we learn Brian used to be an emo/punk boy? Sir. That is vital information and pics or it didn't happen!
Their breakup? Not messy. No cheating. No dramatic betrayal. Just right person, wrong timeline, which honestly hurts worse because ✨feelings✨.
Jess is a powerhouse. She survived a garbage ex-husband, packed up her life, and said, “All I want are my girls and my freedom, keep the rest.” Her daughters? CHAOS GREMLINS OF LOVE. Watching them go full guard-dog mode over their mom while also adopting Brian like a golden retriever was everything.
Also, Brian's ever developing relationship with Fuzzy, aka Dammit ? Inject it directly into my veins.
But my favorite part (besides the forbidden second-chance romance, of course) was Brian absolutely annihilating Jess’s ex-husband one petty, glorious move at a time. I had my literal popcorn ready every single time. Sexy revenge is my love language.
You can tell Daphne, Brittanee, and Jenni are besties IRL because they share one brain. You cannot see the stitching. The characters stay true. All characters were exactly the same every book which is sorcery. Special shout-out to the Beckett and Lake Paige cameos. Chef’s kiss.
Thank you, @daphneelliotauthor and @theauthor.agency for the ARC.
Tropes: second chance romance single mom found family grumpy x sunshine Dual POV
Well everyone, we're at the end of the DadComs and I'm sad lol. I've enjoyed this group of lawyers, significant others, kids, psychics, and giant cats so much! I found this whole series to be hilarious and heart warming at the same time. I really looked forward to Bonus Daddy and reading Brian's story and it delivered! It was time for Brian to get his happily ever after and I'd been rooting for him since book 1.
Brian has been in love with his college girlfriend for 2 decades. Life had them go their separate ways but he's never gotten over her. Then, who appears in his office needing legal help? Jess, the woman of his dreams. Knowing he can't be with her due to being her lawyer, Brian will find other ways to show her and her kids that he's never letting her go again.
Jess walked into Brian's office not knowing the lawyer recommended to her would be her college sweetheart. Romance is the last thing on her mind. She's still fighting an uphill battle with her ex-husband. But the heart knows what the heart wants and sometimes, you just have to give in.
I loved Brian and Jess. I love how he'd pinned for her all these years and seeing her again woke him up out of the fog he was in. Plus, I knew he'd be great with her kids after seeing him with TJ and Murphy and even Fuzzy the cat lol. It was his time to shine and show us all who we knew he could be. Jess was great too. I can only imagine the emotional abuse she'd previously went through so the walls she had up were very understandable. But the way this Jersey family comes together and rallies behind each other is so beautiful, I teared up in this one. I just thought it was so sweet!
"Bonus Daddy" by Daphne Elliot is part of the "Dadcoms" series. It could be read as a standalone, but I recommend reading the other 2 books first.
Thank you Daphne Elliot for the digital copy of the book. Opinions from this review are completely my own.
It is finally time for Brian to find his HEA.
What you can expect: ⦁ the one that got away ⦁ college sweethearts ⦁ second chance romance ⦁ single mom ⦁ slow burn
I liked this book a lot. From the first book in the series I was waiting for Brian and Jess's story. He never got over her and she had a bad marriage. They were right for each other, but just needed the right time. I like to read about characters close to my age because I always find something relatable.
This is a heartwarming story about second chances and found family. Jess and her girls were immediately integrated in the group. The relationship development was slow (at least at a physical level), but the chemistry was so good. Brian is so sweet and protective, but can also be funny.
I also love all the cameos from the other books (especially Beckett).
Hopefully there will be many more books with these characters.
This is the story of Brian & Jess and their second chance at love. This is book 3 of Dad Coms. Brian, the honorary uncle to the Murphy family is a grumpy, grouchy man - he’s sworn off love and destined to be a work - a - holic. Well, that is until his college flame reappears, needing a family lawyer.
Jess - our yogi - from previous books, just so happens to be Brians college love, the one that got away. Jess is desperate to take her 2 children and move back to her family in Maplewood VT. & she needs Brian, her lawyers, help.
I loved that Brian was the perfect “dad that stepped up” for this kids. Jess & Brian have that rare, once in a lifetime love. & Brian as the mouth of a sinner 🥵
What I love most about reading this series & Mom coms is that all of these characters intertwine. Brian is Dylan’s brother - from Mom Coms. Of course Beckett (from every Brittanee Nicole book) makes his appearance here. & now I am so excited to read Daphne’s Maplewood series with Jess’s brothers, Josh & Jasper!
Some quotes I loved:
“I was falling in love with this man. Not the boy I’d fallen for a lifetime ago. The man standing next to me right now.”
“You’re the best combo of loyal golden retriever and stern brunch daddy.”

i loved this so much!!! i think this was my favorite of the series! jess & brian were such a good couple! they had a long slow burn but it worked/made a lot of sense given their past & their work relationship. it was great seeing them become friends again and then slowly fall back in love
but my absolute favorite thing about this was how protective kit and greta were over jess. they love their mom so much and wanted the best for her. they’re so young but so smart & fully understood everything. they also had the cutest relationship with murphy & tj! i love cousins <33
i’m so sad dad coms is done but this was such a fun series!! i hope we get more collabs in the future!
Pretty sure this was my favorite of the series. Surprising since I normally love Brittanee’s books and have been let down by most of Daphne’s books I’ve read. Brian was my favorite MMC of the series and I enjoyed Jess’ girls more than the other two kids in the series. Definitely my favorite of the handful of Daphne’s books I’ve read.
⭐️ (3.75/5) Thank you to Daphne Elliott and the team for the ARC of Bonus Daddy!
This story had such a fun premise and a ton of heart. I loved the group dynamic and the humor threaded through the story—it felt like catching up with old friends. Brian was easily my favorite part; he added the perfect mix of grounding energy and charm. The setup of a second-chance romance between two people finding their way back to each other was right up my alley.
That said, a few things pulled me out of the story. The shift from present to past tense (after the first two books being written in present) took some getting used to, and it made this installment feel a bit disconnected from the earlier ones. Jess was messy—and while that’s realistic in a lot of ways—her growth didn’t really come through until the very end. The pacing also felt a bit rushed at times, especially in the more emotional and intimate moments.
Still, I really enjoyed the heart of the story and the overall warmth of the series. If you love second chances, found family vibes, and a touch of chaos wrapped in optimism, you’ll want to grab Bonus Daddy when it releases on October 16th.
Bonus Daddy by @daphneelliotauthor Book 3 in Dad Coms Available 10.16
Save the best for last, yup this series definitely did just that! I found Brain intriguing throughout the series and his book definitely didn’t disappoint.
Jessica Mosley is a single mom of two just trying to get her life back post divorce but finds herself stuck in Jersey because of stipulations in divorce. After venting to two of her regular yoga clients, Cal & Lo, they suggest she met Brain who’s the best family law attorney. Brain looks up from his desk to find Jess standing in his doorway, his college sweetheart, the one that got away. Even though it’s been 20 years, the sparks still fly between these two but there’s an obstacle in their way, Jess is now Brains client.
I loved seeing them reconnect and how quickly Brian was all in with her daughters, even with their hazing nothing fazed Brain. The cameos with Beckett & Lake Paige, chef kiss! All the swoon worthy moments, ugh Boston! That whole trip down to the way he planned it with the help of none other then the matchmaker himself Beckett! I absolutely loved when Brian destroyed Jess’s ex socially, it was perfect! I mean who doesn’t want a man to stand up for them like that! I know I sure do!
There’s wit, banter, a huge cat, a psychic neighbor, found family vibes and a whole lot of love! Run and add Bonus Daddy to your tbr!
Added bonus, it set up Daphne’s next series perfectly! Jess’s brothers sound like a hoot and I’m here for it!!
*I’d like to say thank you to Daphne Elliott andThe Author Agency for giving me the opportunity to read Bonus Daddy as an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Brian and Jess’s story! I am such a sucker for a second chance romance, and this was so sweet. And such a fun way to tease the author’s new series that will be set in Vermont!
🧑 Single mom ❤️🩹 Second chance romance 🐱 Accidental cat daddy lawyer MMC 💞 Found family 🔥 Slow burn
This was so sweet. 🥲 There were so many sweet callbacks to their relationship in college, the tension, and the way Brian would do anything to make Jess’s life easier.
And when he told off her ex?? 🥵 YES SIR!
Jess’s daughters meddling in their relationship and testing Brian was so adorable. I loved the way they all connected and how he was able to have his own relationship with them, separate from Jess.
This was the perfect ending to the dadcoms series and just tied a perfect bow on everything and where everyone ended up.
Thank you so much to Daphne Elliott for the arc of Bonus Daddy!
4.25 ⭐️. What better way to finish off the Dad Coms than finally getting Brian's story!! When he first saw Jess again after so many years, I was kicking my feet because I love a second chance story! Both of them were clearly shocked and also had never forgotten their time together. I love how sweet their relationship was back then and loved seeing them fall in love all over again. And then seeing how strong Jess and both her girls are literally just had me loving them so much more, especially when Brian's protective side came out! Overall, this was the perfect way to end the Dad Coms and I cannot wait to see more of what happens in Maplewood!
Audiobook: Bonus Daddy is performed in duet with a full cast and this audio was absolutely amazing!! Stephen Dexter was perfect as Brian and Victoria Connolly did an amazing job performing Jess!! And the rest of the full cast made it even better with CJ Bloom(Sloane), Connor Crais (Sully), Angelina Rocca (Lo), and Sean Masters (Cal)! If you love audiobooks, then I’d 10/10 recommend listening to this book and this series!!
What to expect: -Second chance -Single mom -Grumpy x sunshine -Found family -Slow burn
And this book brings us to the end of the Dad Coms series, it made me laugh and it was perfect just like the Mom Coms series that I recommend reading as well. All the books written by the girls have been interlinked into this wild and wacky world of love, friendship and happiness.
The final book of Dad Coms follows the biggest grump of the group Brian who has basically been in a sour mood ever since he lost his first love, only for that to be flipped on its head when a new client for him to represent walks into his office, that being Jess, said first love. Now that was a surprise for both of them and Brian's reaction is rather funny to this. Times have changed since they both knew each other in college and now Jess has two funny little girls and one hell of a soon-to-be ex-husband...
Daphne did so good on this book!!! Ever since we met our main stars of the Dad Coms series, Brian had me wondering what was under his stern personality and to be truthful it was something amazing, the way he was just about to separate how he was feeling to win Jess her case to move back home and then simply the way he treated her girls and even that cat he hates so much.
This could not have been a more perfect way to end the series in my eyes! I am so excited for what books could come next that are interlinked into this amazing story world, this is for sure a world I would love to live in!!
This was such a fun series & Daphne Elliot does a great job at finishing this series with a slow burn, second chance, slightly forbidden romance. I love that these MCs are in their 40s, reunited after decades apart. They were college sweethearts who went in separate directions - no malice or big blowout, just life. But they never stopped thinking about one another. These characters are relatable & I just adored this rom-com.
This story revolves around family attorney Brian Machon, last single man standing in the Dad Coms Jersey brownstone. His new client is one he didn't expect - his college sweetheart Jessica. Now a single mom of two, she's trying to get her life back post-divorce. Brian can't date his client, but that doesn't stop him from integrating Jess & her kids into his makeshift family. He might not be able to cross that line, but that just makes the yearning & tension building so much more delicious - this is such a great slow burn & I loved every moment.
Brian is super protective, loyal & the humor is on point. A highlight is his bonding with the kids - they are an absolute standout. Jess is so sweet & endearing. She brings a bit of chaos to Brian's unyielding & a bit guarded life - his transformation from emotionally stunted to lovable step-dad is chef's kiss. The rest of the Jersey clan really pushes these two together & have some memorable moments forming this big, chaotic family.
If you know this world, then you'll love the cameos we get in this book (yes, there is a Beckett moment!). It also leads to Daphne's new series that takes place in VT. We meet Jess's family there & it has me so excited for her next release!
💕 Second Chance ❣️ Single Mom ☀️ Grumpy x Sunshine 💼 Workplace Romance 🔥 Slow Burn 🫶 Found Family ✌🏻 Dual POV
Honestly, the story is solid, but something that bugs me a lot is how Jess didn’t even ask her daughter if they really wanted to move or not, she chose to not let her daughter pursue a once in a lifetime (probably) opportunity, just because she wants to run away to Vermont. I get how that place has been the home to her trauma, and she deserves to be happy, but I could never clip my daughter’s wings for my own comfort.
Her maturity as a 41 years old it’s appalling, she clearly needs a lot of therapy. It’s heartless how he told her he miss the audition because his close friend is dying, and she asked for space because “what’s more important than my daughter”… like I get the showing up part, but he’s literally done it until then, she was the one pushing him away, she’s the one finding issues, when he found the solutions. He had a life before her and her daughters, if they aren’t mad that he missed the audition, she has no right to be, especially after he explained to her why.
Brian is honestly too good for her, he’s a perfect gentlemen and so committed to her and her daughters, he doesn’t deserve all the shit that she throws at him. I thought we would get a better FMC, and because of her character, I don’t recommend this book.
After meeting Brian in the first two books in the Dad Coms series, I was super exciting to have his story and boy, did the author deliver. Fun, swoony and charming, Bonus Daddy delivers a sweet love story that you can’t put down and is easy to read.
Brian and Jess completely captured my heart with their second chance romance. Their story had heart, nostalgia and a great balance between fun and serious moments. I thoroughly enjoyed the slow burn in this one and how Brian played the long game. How can you not love him after everything he does for Jess and her daughters. From little to big things, he didn’t hesitate to be there for them. And their chemistry, off the charts and palpable through the pages.
I also loved how fiercely independent Jess became after rediscovering who she is. Her strength, resilience and love for her daughters was always at the forefront of story and I really enjoyed it.
And once again, I have to mention Madame E! One of the best side characters in a series. She, again, brought the visions and the laughs.
Simply said, I couldn’t get enough of Bonus Daddy and the Dad Coms series! 10/10 recommend!
I would like to thank Daphne Elliot for the opportunity to read and review Bonus Daddy.
“If the stars align and you’re given a second chance with your first love? Then you’d better not blow it.”
Brian Machon is the final one in the series to find his happily ever after and it came in the form of his college sweetheart. Jessica Mosley is a single mom of two just trying to get her life back post divorce. She needs a family law attorney and Brian is the best, she just didn’t know he was her Brian.
Brian and Jessica ended a relationship because their families needed them and they were so young. But now they are in their forties and back in each other’s lives. I loved seeing them reconnect and how quickly Brian was all in with her daughters. Another great DadCom!!
“Our little Jersey family was loud, disruptive, and ridiculous, but these people had become my family.”
🔥: “Take it or leave it, Machon. You want to come up to my hotel suite, get naked, and ravage me?”
Goodness, how charming and refreshing this was! The characters are older, as in their early forties, and guess what?! Brian and Jess weren’t portrayed as stodgy or boring! Their second chance romance was still sweet and spicy. The single mom trope was handled gracefully…Jess was resourceful and resilient—she knew she would handle things on her own, fought for what was right and Brian…was/is a “bonus”. I respected the fact that she didn’t have to depend on him (other than the lawyering). Brian’s character was a breath of fresh air too, he stuck to his work boundaries and morals, but still followed his heart. There was some clever tie-ins to the other author’s books and fun clues to this authors future new series. The Dadcoms series was entertained of and delightful, I enjoyed each one.4.25 stars Thanks to the author and Luna Literary Management for the eARC.
Brian!!! They really save the best for last in this series. I loved Brian! He never forgot his first love and when she comes strolling into his office for a lawyer he is stunned! She’s the one who got away the one he never forgot but now she’s his client and is concerned off limits. That’s not gonna stop him. Is it?
She needs help to move out of state after her ex said no! She has two girls who depend on her for everything and she will do anything for them. She never thought she run into him again, but he just happens to be the best family lawyer in Jersey. Will they be able to work this case together or will that old flame start to burn again?
This series ends with a great story that I enjoyed a lot. It was real life relatable. Daphne Elliot did superbly by adding all the elements to the story which made it consuming. Jess and Brian are made for each other. This story is a perfect example of “right person, wrong timing”. And best part was the family times, where all the characters from the rest of two books are also involved. Kids being kids and they are so considerate that I felt wow. Fuzzy was a cutie. Everyone must read this series and love it as much as you can.
And at last Brian gets his happily ever after. I actually loved Jess and her kids from the start. They each had their own interest and made Brian prove his loyalty to then kids. I was listening to a series on audio books which extended my read time for this book. I’m excited to read the epilogue where we see everyone the future. The grand gesture in this story was perfect! I also loved getting to watch Brian’s relationship with the cat “fluffy”. I’m halfway through the epilogue. It sounds like it’s all building up for a reunion in Jersey!
The conclusion to the dad coms!! I loved this series. It’s fun and sweet and full of laughs!
Yoga Jess and Brian. What a story of healing ; and building a future with someone from Your past. I love how the kids are all ver much part of all thes stories. They truly are all family and all heart!!
Book 3 in the DamComs series was probably my favorite. Brian and Jess dated in college and split amicably when their lives seemed to go in separate directions.
Jess is now a local yoga teacher befriended by Lo and Cal unbeknownst to Brian. She is also a single mom to two adorable girls whose dad while wealthy is also a deadbeat. Jess is trying to move back home to Vermont and hires Brian to help her win the relocation argument.
Needless to say several amazing things happen and you will have to read or listen to find out!
