Do's & Don'ts: A Samadhi Handbook Extract

Rate this book
‘DO’S & DON‘TS’ is a handmade extract from the Samadhi handbook on the rules of conduct for aspirant yogis. The do’s and don’ts of the classical path of yoga are however not moral obligations. They are a matter of yogic science and technology. Only religions have turned this yogic understanding into a source of dissatisfaction with ourselves. In any case, the do’s are too many to do them all. There are as many paths towards the top of the mountain as there are people climbing it. Some contentment, purification, self-study and surrender as well as a little roasting are needed. For the rest we can try to use our free time well in other uplifting activities, of which many are described in this booklet. As for the don’ts, we principally avoid any violence, untruth and cheating. Some milder forms of these might exist without us being very aware of it, or might fit our natural role. Yet the moment we become aware of braking these rules we should firmly stick to our integrity. The two main remaining don’ts are on the contrary only essential for renunciates. Holding on to things or being somewhat too attracted to them is part of our freedom of living life naturally. We only have to be willing to pay the price. The ancient do’s and don’ts thus stand in service of our spiritual growth. .

This booklet is part of a series of small books extracted from “Samadhi – The Deep Meditation Handbook”, a two-volume work with over 600 pages on reaching the deepest states of meditation. Samadhi is the highest of yogic practices, a trance state where body consciousness is entirely lost and a gradual full merging with the Self is gained. It requires daily sustained meditation practice, supported by some major changes to our lifestyle, attitudes and desires. It is nevertheless everyone’s birthright, even when living as a householder yogi.
