THE PREACHER'S DAUGHTER...

Paul Randall wasn't right for Belinda Carnes when they were teens. He'd skipped town when he realized that like everyone else, she blamed him for something he hadn't done.

After ten years, Paul, now a successful lawyer, was back--for business only. But one glance at Belinda and gone was his plan to have nothing to do with She was so beautiful he couldn't think straight.

Yet Belinda's life didn't have room for a long-lost love--especially one she had never really trusted. And Paul knew it would take God's love for him to prove his innocence. And show that her rightful place was by his side.

Although I have been a published author since the mid 1980s, I have been writing women's Christian fiction almost exclusively since 1999.

There is a longer, more detailed bio on my website so there's no need for me to repeat all that here. Right now, I write for all three Love Inspired lines, Romance, Suspense and Historical. I'm delighted to have been included that broadly and besides, it keeps me so busy that I stay out of trouble. Well, mostly.

You'll find me on the LI Historical blog as well as other LI features. If I try to do much more I won't have time to write my books!

This entry in the Christian romance genre has a good love triangle between straight-laced preacher's daughter Belinda Carnes, who works at the chamber of commerce and her high school sweetheart, Paul Randall, and her current beau, Dr. Sam Barryman. Belinda believes that Paul was behind a fire that razed her father's church to the ground ten years ago, and hasn't forgotten--or forgiven. Sam simply wants Paul's great-aunts, amusingly named Prudence and Patience, to sell their valuable property so he can build a hospital for the small community. Belinda wants to be able to choose between them.

Belinda has trust issues with Paul, with good reason. There's a lot of miscommunication between the two, which is fairly realistic. Sam isn't the typical disposable boyfriend in this novel; he has good ideas, but his priorities aren't in sync with Belinda's.

The biggest problem with this novel--as well as with many others--is the small minded attitude of the residents. Are all small towns this inhospitable? This gossip- and innuendo-filled? If so, I'll take my chances in the big city, thanks very much. The plot moves along briskly, and the characters are mostly likable.

There's actually a very good scene where Paul, now a successful lawyer in nearby Harrison, grills his aunt in front of her family and friends over the church fire that destroyed his reputation ten years ago. It's a rare occurrence in novels like this where a character does something wrong and is actually forced to pay for it instead of simply begging forgiveness.
