I'm a pretty big nerd when it comes to Egyptian history. Granted, that's mostly for ancient Egypt, but I've found myself always willing to learn more. That being said, this guide is a great resource for Egyptian history and provides a wealth of knowledge for all that was and is Egypt through time. Information regarding the ancient periods was interesting and a new look on what I've learned in the past. As the guide progressed into the middle ages and beyond, the information became harder to digest. A lot of people, places, and activities were crammed into a couple chapters, making the chapters difficult to read at times. A pronunciation guide or insert into text would have been helpful due to the larger number of different ethics groups and names attributed to the region.

I have read some articles and books about Egyptian history and so many of them stop before the medieval period. This book includes the ancient history, yes, but also the medieval period through early modern history. And it’s really interesting! Pharaohs are not the only fascinating thing about Egypt. The book doesn’t have new information, like all of Captivating’s historical nonfiction, but the information it does have is laid out in a logical manner and is pleasing to read.

This book is an excellent reference to have on the history of Egypt. I found this book to have in-depth information that is precise and easy to read and understand. It captures your attention with the fascinating facts about the counrty.
