Pack politics, adventure, and romance feature in the third installment of Magnetic Magic.
Luna has recovered priceless werewolf relics from powerful thieves, but they’re still alive—and they can control her new ally, a lone wolf named Duncan.
She would be wise to have nothing to do with him, but he’s handsome, charming, and keeps coming to her defense. Further, with certain members of the pack gunning for her, she needs his assistance. Her cousin Augustus is holding a grudge, and she’s going to have to find a way to deal with him—before he deals with her.
But not much happened in this book to move the series story arc forward.
Strangely, the snarky banter I usually enjoy felt overdone in this book. At some point, these middle-aged werewolves need to have an adult conversation. The romance heated up but didn’t go further. Although the wolf aspects of each character regards the other as a mate.
And the end? It’s a good thing this author writes fast.
I did enjoy this book, and I know it is building to something big, but I was left with more questions than answers by the end of this book. Their is a lot of repetition of things that happened in the earlier books. Usually, I don't mind a bit of a recap, but I don't need it over and over again. However, the book is a page-turner as soon as I finish one chapter. I wanted to read the next one.
Luna and Duncan are getting more comfortable with each other despite what happened in their past. Luna's family is becoming an increasing presence in her life. Her cousins want her gone, and they are willing to go through or ally with anyone to get rid of her. Despite this, Luna might still have some family support. As well as a surprise visitor.
A good continuation of the series, not as many revelations as I thought there would be in the book, but definitely some big changes, and I am definitely looking forward to the next book.
relationship issues or character ones make this less of a enjoyable experience
Rating: 3.5⭐️
If you’re reading a series and notice certain things or elements of a character(s) or storyline that are starting to become a bit predictable or problematic, then you hope that as the series goes forward, the author has a way to use those things in the narrative or character development.
At least so it’s not an issue that is highly distracting from the plot or character relationship.
Unfortunately that’s what is happening with the characters here.
Spoilers for the preceding book.
Primarily it’s the character of Duncan and the dynamic between Luna and Duncan. It is absolutely disconnecting me from the character of Luna who I found relatable and interesting in her personality and life story.
But the dynamic between them, especially with her history with Duncan and her ex-husband, as well as her cousin, it’s just making her out to be either a woman with extremely bad judgment or just a nonsensical storyline. Duncan, a clone of an ancient powerful werewolf, has betrayed Luna in the past. She forgave him. Then he attacked her, under the control of a mage. One he’s still under the influence of when the mage desires. The logic is to cut him off.
The author, instead, has Luna repeatedly inviting him,(past, current and future threat) back into her life, the pack’s life and now it looks like her son’s. Yes, this will go as well as expected.
Just when needed, oh look. He’s running away. Cue up the eye roll.
Buroker was or is building a picture of a divorced woman trying to handle multiple major events/family crises and struggling with them as she would be. But here’s the thing, Luna has been portrayed as tough, extremely realistic and resilient. Even with the current state of affairs in her life, with the pack politics, mother’s health, and now the Druid family arriving at the housing units, the relationship dynamics the author has playing out is very counter intuitive to the woman Buroker also wants us to believe in.
How much of patsy or casualty is Luna expected to be of this relationship and the readers too? It’s getting old fast.
I’m continuing on but with less enthusiasm than when I began.
For those who enjoy paranormal werewolf fiction and urban fantasy thrillers, check it out. See what you think.

Magnetic Magic : Way of the Wolf #1 Relics of the Wolf #2 Kin of the Wolf #3 Quest of the Wolf #4 Curse of the Wolf-July 11,2025
Can't wait un4il May, when book 4 comes out and hopefully news of Luna's love interest, Duncan, We leave book 3 with a lovely domestic scene. Luna's apartment seems less lonely with the return of her youngest son, Austin, home for the holidays. Despite his return, she's still missing Duncan, and we're on pins and needles waiting to find out what has happened to him. In the meantime, I'm just waiting for the release of book 4 next month in May.. Too much is still up in the air and we're waiting impatiently to discover what has happening to Duncan since his "Master" called him towards the end of the sting by Luna and Jasmin pulled to get evidence on her murderous cousin's shady protection scam on local magical business owners. But her cousin is dead, a victim of his attack on Luna, who l9ses control and kills him, defending herself from his attack backed up by all his brothers and cousins. She is able to prove that August was running a protection racket that could have potentially turned other magical against the ever smaller werewolf community.. But the elders aren't thrilled with the deaths of members of the pack, as they are facing an already smaller pack with no new werewolves, but they seem to accept that Luna is back and still the strongest werewolf in the. pack. But that's not what she's thinking about. She is still waiting and hoping to see Duncan and learn what has happened to him after atching him heeding that magical call to return to his Master.
Luna and Duncan have recovered the stolen artifacts but when Duncan changed into his bipedal form his old master (who he thought was dead), still has control over him. Although he’s fighting the control had cannot escape easily or quickly. His actual escape is curious. Meanwhile, Luna still has to deal with her cousin Augustus trying to kill her as well as getting back into parts of the pack. Bolin and his magic are not really featured in this book but there are a lot of magical potions and weapons. There is some action, mystery, suspense, surprises and the slow romance is growing. The snark and sarcasm of Luna as well as her interactions with Duncan can be pretty humourous. As well the other characters fit in perfectly. An easy, quick, fun read.
I love all of Lindsey's books. Her characters can be so amusing, the rich use of snark is something I wish I could enjoy outside of books. I have had to sublimate my own snark since it was not encouraged in my professional life. I would absolutely love to go for coffee with Lindsey and share her humor:) The heroine of the story is a semi cranky werewolf overflowing with snark that seems to be rather unappreciated by most. Her love interest is a charming affable Alpha Werewolf who loves her snark and bristly personality. They share a sense of adventure and can't seem to resist getting into sticky situations together.
It's not a super complex plot or anything. Actually, it's pretty much the same for three books now: show up at mom's, get attacked by werewolves. Rinse and repeat. But the banter is fun. I love Duncan. He's quirky and just a delight. But Luna is.... well, kinda awful. Duncan is forever coming to her aid and bluntly expressing his interest. Luna never comes to his and keeps everything vague. But, he's gone off several times now, and she just goes home. She knows where he's going, but she's not committed to him at all, even as a friend. She doesn't deserve his devotion. But these are fun reads.
Luna and Duncan have more problems than they know how to handle. Augustus continues to malign her character and has not stopped trying to kill her despite being warned. Duncan still has ties to his beginnings making him dangerous when he is in his “half form”. Luna has to find out what the deal is on both the ivory box and her mother’s pendant. Meeting other supernaturals who she can now detect with magic due to her not taking the tonic that fills her werewolf senses. Since she is off, it will be easier To stay alert, reduce the crime in the neighborhood that flows her and maybe get a kiss from Duncan if not more.
Another fun, fast-paced adventure from Lindsay Buroker. Luna fits right in with the strong, smart, and hilarious heroines Buroker is known for—she’s resourceful, sharp-witted, and always in the middle of some magical mess.
The mix of werewolf politics, magical relics, and nonstop trouble keeps things moving, and I loved the dynamic between Luna and Duncan. Their slow-burn romance is full of great banter and quiet chemistry that keeps building with each book.
If you enjoy Buroker’s trademark humor, action, and lovable chaos, this one won’t disappoint.
This has been a slow crawling series. Once I think this is going somewhere then it starts to slow down. Are we going to get to the point of Duncan and his creator battling it out. What about Luna and her aversion to standing up for what she believes in? I mean at this point we see her coming to the realization of certain points that she needs to stand up for herself at some point with her family I hope. We some some issues coming up but the author is so slow getting the set up that I don’t know if we will ever get there for me to stay reading this series.
I liked books one and two better than this third installment. I've grown tired of how the author has the protagonist being a complete dolt. I had hoped that in book three, our protagonist would smarten up. Could that happen in book four????
I hope that number four isn't going to have the same issue I've had with the first three; that is, that there are words in the books that must be spelled wrong because no dictionary knows what they've been. I even tried to GOOGLE them, and it couldn't help.
Lindsay is one of my favorite authors and I never miss a new release by her. The Magnetic Magic series is no exception. It includes lots of magic, werewolves and some snark (one of my favorites) as well as a dash of romance for good measure. All of her books are exceptional and worth your time and effort. Definitely offers another aspect of werewolf life and society that you won’t see in the movies.
Lindsay is a Master(ess?) of writing quirky characters and witty repartee. Each nook is a chance for her to get her sark on in the banter between her protagonists and other characters lending her stories a wonderful feeling of comradeship.
Always well done! Looking forward to the next installment!
I have a deep seated love for Lindsay Buroker...and this hasn't changed. Her last series was probably one of my least favorites and I was really worried that I'd just read so much of her work that I wouldn't like it as much anymore, but im glad to see with this series that it isn't the case!
This is a new series I'm enjoying it greatly it's a wonderful wonderful book I love all the characters I'm wishing they were just back to back to back I hate the weight I'm 1 of those people but fantastic if you're looking for a quick easy read pick it up you'll love the series I hope you enjoyed as much as I did
It's an amazing entry to the series. I enjoyed it a lot. This book reinforced my ever existing belief that Lindsay Buroker is my favorite author of all time.
Fast paced plot, fun banter and frustrating conflict between the main leads. Moreover, I wish for the spinoff series between Bolin and Jasmine. Even though their screen time is less, they made an impression.
Duncan is very much her Ally and helps her out all the time, while Luna deals with her job and gets Bolin to help her too. They come up against her cousins who are nasty and determined to get her out of the way, they are up to something and use bad tricks and no one seems to care. Still Luna has Duncan and while they have yet to mate, you know they will. It's a great story.
Really enjoying this series. The characters are developed nicely. Plenty of action and suspense. While each story is complete, the overall plot line is tying everything together well. Looking forward to the next book. Recommended
All sorts of magic and mayhem and mocha coffees, plus one major cliffhanger! I couldn't put this book down, and fervently hope the next part of this series will be released soon!
I love this book for many reasons. The plot is fascinating and the characters are engaging. The MC is 45, the same age as me, and isn't written as a dumpy, sad, old lady. "Middle-aged" now isn't what it was for the previous generation.
This series is like the fine dark chocolate so loved by Luna. Although there is a crunchy, nutty topping of snark; underneath the rich, dark emotions of these scarred characters slowly melt your heart.
There are some pretty hefty secrets coming out in this book that explain a lot and make things more complicated. The enemies have multiplied but the banter between the MCs is very entertaining
I find it difficult to remain motivated with series mainly due to the unnecessary running commentary in-conjunction with the MC lack of pro-activeness and just going with the flow. Take charge for once.
Not sure why people are saying nothing happened, there were a few HUGE happenings. I love this series and cannot wait for the next. I have a feeling there will be more happening with Luna's children...just a guess.
I wish authors would let us know in the first book of the series if the entire series is finished. I just finished book 3 and found out. I have to wait three more months for the next book to come out.
A hard working empty nester who's also a werewolf? Yes, and she's as tough as nails when she needs to be. Great fun and a very enjoyable read, as Lindsay Buroker's books always are.
Luna continues to clash with her kinfolk. There is plenty of action as Luna searches to find answers about her artifacts. I was thoroughly entertained and look forward to the next book to be released.
Love the author but this series of books could have been written as a trilogy. The main character is becoming annoying and the story seems to be rambling on without getting anywhere. Very disappointed!
I really like Luna. She’s definitely a down to earth werewolf. I feel bad for her and Duncan because her family keeps trying to kill her, and Duncan‘s old nemesis is back to try to control him. I will definitely read the next book in the series.
