Love was the bait. Survival is the endgame.

Margaux thought she’d escaped the nightmare.
But the truth is darker than she ever imagined—and it’s waiting just beneath the surface of her new life.

The man who swore to protect her has secrets he’s still not ready to share. The one who broke her isn’t finished with her yet. And every choice Margaux makes pushes her deeper into a twisted web of obsession, betrayal, and reckoning.

Some monsters look like lovers.
Some protectors are just better liars.
And some women?
They don't run.
They rise.

Beautiful Terror is the haunting conclusion to Pretty Red Flags—a pitch-black psychological thriller about control, karmic retribution, and the cost of reclaiming your power. For readers who crave high tension, raw emotion, and slow-burning vengeance that cuts deep.

ARC read! Thank you so much for this opportunity

**Rating: 5 Stars**

“Beautiful Terror” is a profound and emotionally charged novel that delves into the complexities of karma and retribution. This is the culmination of a compelling story that resonates deeply with individuals who have experienced narcissistic abuse. The protagonist, an extraordinary woman, finally finds her voice and regains her strength after enduring the torment of her abuser.

Prepare yourself for an intense reading experience, as this series has the power to evoke a range of emotions. I found myself on the verge of tears, laughing, and screaming in anguish as I empathized with the protagonist’s plight.

I wanted to like this so much. And honestly, for the Burn It All Down duet, I would have liked it, and appreciated it more, if it was not advertised as a romance. You can slap what ever precursor label on it but this isn't a dark romance, it's not a stalker romance, it's just not a romance at all.

If this was advertised as Lit Fic and pushed as that, it would be top-tier. The battle that Margaux goes through is so horrifyingly realistic and devastating. You can't help but want better for her. Instead she's cast a romance FMC that leaves me feeling not much for her. Like I said in my review of Volcano of Pain, Margaux being so weak-willed and spineless (sure she had moments of mouthing off and scream-yelling at Timmy but those were also just lackluster) didn't endear her to me as a reader.

And if Dex has no haters, it means I am dead. This man watched her go through the abuse and he played petty tricks on Timmy, but in 18 months he didn't reach out at all. She was posting vague cries for help online so he could use that as an excuse but he never once reached out.

This is far from a bad book. It needed some editing. It definitely did not need to be 700+ pages with a book preceding it being 600+ pages. And it certainly should not be started if you're wanting a romance novel, this is not the book for you in that case.

Thank you to Heidi Stark for an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Make sure you read the first book, Volcano of Pain, before this! This book happens right after the first book ends! This book gives you all the feels, pressing on points many people know about, but not wanting to speak about.

Margaux deals with the trauma of being in an abusive relationship. It's a constant battle within her mind, Timmy makes her believe things that aren't true, twisting everything to make himself a victim of the things he does to her.

Dex watches her in the background, trying to sabotage Timmy from the outside. Planting things on his socials, trying to get Margaux to see who he truly is.

Finally, after all the threats, the abuse (mental and physical), spending her savings, and threatening her cat, she finally gets to leave and try to live the life without him.

Dex helps her, never pushing too hard. Knowing that he wants to be with her, but doesn't want to scare her or push her too hard. Knowing her love is the love he wants. He wants to protect her and kill the demons that have hurt her in the past. Including Timmy and his father.

Beautiful Terror is book 2 of the "Burn It All Down" Duo series by Heidi Stark. I personally do not think this belongs anywhere near the dark romance, or any romance category. That said, it's absolutely not a bad read as long as you make sure to check all your triggers. As with the first book, this one too is heavy, emotional, and just intense all around. I absolutely recommend reading Volcano Of Pain first, because if you don't you'll be extremely lost, as it picks off where the first book cliffhangers. I also would recommend reading this in short sessions, as if you're anything like me, you're absolutely gonna need a step back and time to process what happened. Overall, this book is compelling, heartbreaking, and addictive.

This book was a roller coaster ride! It kept leading you to think the FMC finally would overcome her fight but then it went down hill into chaos over & over again. There were times I was definitely yelling at the FMC, “ like come on!! Fight it”! This book was written so well and got my emotional at times. Heidi did a fantastic job showing into the minds of the FMC & MMC.
I would recommend this book highly to anyone who likes a darker romance story.

Thank you Heidi Stark for letting me be an ARC for your novels!

Part 2 of Margaux and Dex! I loved the story line but I feel it was to drawn out and just a little repetitive in the story. I highly suggest you pay attention to the triggers! There were some parts that were a little rough for me to get through (PTSD) so I had to put it down and pick it back up a few times. Ultimately I wish Dex would have played out all his “imagining” when it comes to Timmy, but we love a girl that breaks free and finds out her worth! I would definitely recommend this duet if you love a rip your heart out and put it back together type of read!! So thankful to be apart of this ARC Group, and getting to experience the dynamics of Margaux and Dex 🖤🖤

This is the second book of the Burn It All Down Duet. I received an advanced reader copy for my honest review.

Um…. WOW!!! Heidi really got my emotions all over the place. Just when I thought Margaux was safe… WRONG… but that ending… that’s what dreams are made of.

I will say, I did feel it was long and a little drawn out but I also understand why it is. It really gives you insight to what victims face… mentally, physically, and socially. I’m so proud of Margaux, and anyone else who a survivor of DV.

I highly recommend this book and the first book of the duet, Volcano of Pain. Make sure you check your trigger warnings.

This is book 2 of this series. Margaux and Timmy heading to Montana even though at one point he thought about not going. Dex keeps messing with Timmy via electronically mostly trying to unravel him and hoping that Timmy won’t take things out on Margaux. Dex has been waiting in the shadows watching everything waiting for the right moment to jump in and help Margaux. I know that I would personally wouldn’t allowed someone to continue to be in my life if they tried to be physically abusive. I have been abusive relationships but it was more verbal than physical. I hope that Margaux is able to get out of the relationship before something happens that can’t be undone. I say this because I want you to read the book. However, I also want you to be aware of the triggers in this book. While I enjoyed it to a point, there are moments where I didn’t agree with how Margaux handled things. I feel like Dex should have gotten involved a lot sooner then he did.

**Warning:** This book contains trigger warnings, so be sure to read them before considering opening the first page. Even if you're unsure, it's crucial to review these warnings. There are many aspects to take into account.
I was almost too afraid to dive into this book after reading Volcano of Pain, but my curiosity got the better of me, and I had to uncover what was happening next.
Margaux has finally found the strength to fight back. It's kill or be killed, and fortunately, Dex decides it's time to rescue her from the hell she has been living in. Revenge is oh so sweet! Dex lays everything out for her, showing her what love and protection truly look like.
Beautiful Terror is just as dark as the first book, but with the right person, healing, hope, and love become much easier for her.
You cannot read this book without first reading Volcano of Pain. As I mentioned about the first book, you will either love or hate this story—if you're like me, you might even hate to love it.

Beautiful Terror 🩷

I've been sitting with my thoughts on this book for two days, unsure of how to put them into words. After the cliffhanger in book one, I was expecting book two to start with a bang… but unfortunately, it didn’t.

That’s not to say it wasn’t a good book—Heidi’s writing is beautiful and painfully accurate—but personally, I don’t enjoy reading about abusive relationships. It was incredibly well-executed, yet difficult to get through.

✨ Check your triggers! ✨

I pushed through and finished, but in my opinion, this story could have been condensed into a single book. I also wish Dex had more page time and that we got to see more of Marg and Dex as a couple. One of my favorite parts was Dex messing with Timmy, but it just wasn’t quite enough. I did enjoy watching Margaux finally open her eyes to who Timmy really was.

I also wish Dex’s plan for Timmy had actually played out—I feel like Timmy and Phil got off too easy. But, of course, not every book will end the way you hope.

That said, the writing itself was excellent, and for those who can handle the subject matter, it’s definitely a well-crafted story.

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

**SPOILERS ARE INCLUDED IN REVIEW**

I recieved this book as an ARC and this is my honest review, there wasn't any character i enjoyed in book 2. Book 1 [Volcano of Pain] was good. I was excited for this books continuance, Book 1 cliff hanger had me frothing at the mouth. As someone who LOVES DV romances, I was VERY hyped because it is a VERY sensitive subject and hard to articulate. 1-56% of this book is repetitive. A round about of "he's a loser", "I'm changing for the worst", and "maybe this isn't right" for 10+ chapters. Honestly, why it was 56% of the book, is baffling to me. Felt like the author was writing an essay based on word count. Maybe 10-15% would have helped the book move faster, because i got bored after 10%, which let me HATE every character.

Margaux for rationalizing the DV, having epiphanies and then ignoring them for small reasons. Her losing her self confidence, self worth, and basic respect was a but much for a man who fell short in EVERY aspect. But I get it, DV is hard to get out of once you start drinking the juice. I just HATED her reasoning and lack of self perseverance to live. And if that wasn't enough, the erratic behavior to her friends, and children... Ok no justifying it, but you can delulu yourself but when it's happening to others or children, HOW do you write that off???? Another thing is she moved to a part of Hawaii, i know it's expensive there. She's living off her "Savings" for awhile, but was she a millionaire and we didn't know? Because she keeps talking about Timmy "draining" her savings for over a year. Yet she's paying rent, leasing breaking fees, deposit for a new home, food, dates, car parts. Thousands a month for a long period of time...

Timmy, as a character you're supposed to dislike, she did a great job. Nothing redeemable for him.

Alice was an anchor to help keep the reader [and Margaux] above water. Loved her until she started enabling Margaux delusions. It gave me the ick.

Dex. I had such high hopes for him. He was being built up as this major hero but his lack of involvement was hard to swallow. Kinda forgot about him for awhile because there wasn't barely any mention of him or his POV in the first 50% of the book. Not to mention his POV would come in chapters after the scenes he was talking/thinking about. The back tracking made me confused. It should have been right after Margaux POV to keep the book fluid. He is a stalker, but this isn't a stalker romance, he doesn't "save" her. Doesn't do any smexy with her against her will for her "own good". Out of 130 chapters, he's only brought in with his POV 22 times. and thats with NO interaction with Margaux.

Phil was an idiot who shouldn't have reproduced. I think that sums it up.

Overall, without all the filler, it would have been a good book. I was hoping for more physical DV scenes, but instead we got a lot of emotional abus3 from both Margaux and Timmy. Felt very childish, [Margaux constantly calling Timmy's dad for help, name calling, etc] Not to mention a few holes in the story [Margaux becomes a writer but we get no updates, snippets, details on how that's going, paying, etc], her savings aspect. Felt like a sinking hole... This book could have been cut in half. I generally read [1] 300 page books a day. Sometimes 2 days depending on what time of the day I started. This book bored me so bad it took me a week to finish because there was NO progress. My advice would be to read 1-10%, then skip to 60%. You won't be missing anything important.

This is the second book of the duology and you absolutely have to read the first one before you start this book. That is not up for negotiation. This book is still so intense. The last book ended on a cliffhanger and this one picks up right where it left off. This book is not for the faint of heart and not because its the darkest book I've ever read but because it's one of the most realistic. Margaux is in an abusive relationship with Timmy. He is physically, mentally, and emotionally abusive. I've seen first hand how abusive relationships work, having grown up in one and the manipulation that Timmy worked on Margaux was like reliving pieces of it.

This book put me in a state of high anxiety for most of it. Constantly begging Margaux to see Timmy as he is and leave his dumb ass. Each time she had an epiphany and was about to leave somehow he always made her stay. I was basically yelling at the book at one point because Margaux was so fucking close to leaving and of course some event happened that pushed her escape to the side. I honestly was getting worried she would never leave him. Her thought process through it when she doubted who she was and what she believed happened was intense because she knew the facts but Timmy had a way of speaking that made her question if it either happened or if it was as bad as she claimed. Timmy's father was another piece of shit too. He was the same. Started out by helping Margaux and once she became comfortable with him started blaming her for Timmy's behavior like he wasn't a whole grown ass adult. To see her friends slowly slip away because of the relationship and watch her isolation grow was gut wrenching. The whole time I was hoping something horrible happened to Timmy.

The validity in how the system works too was so jarring to read because it almost never goes well for the victim. Especially with all the hoops they have to jump through and most of it is barely taken seriously.

I know Dex was there watching over her. I also get why he had to let her come to the conclusion to leave him on her own because then she would always carry a piece of Timmy. Even with knowing that and seeing how much he cared for her...Dex annoyed the shit out of me for most of the book. His parts were highly repetitive. Basically his chapters were watching her pain and repeating how he's watching and waiting and how he's there for her. Again, I get why but it didn't feel so much like a dark romance on his part except for at the end with what he did and even that felt subpar. He was a great man and more of what Margaux deserved but his part seemed so insignificant.

The author did an amazing job of translating real life abuse into this story. It really was an intense read and if it wasn't for Dex I would have rated it higher. I'm so happy Margaux got the ending she deserved though because reading her struggles and realizing how long she was with Timmy and dealt with it was a lot. Many don't leave or make it out alive. So to see Margaux happy was a breath of fresh air.

As someone who usually devours 300-page novels in a single day, I was surprised by how long it took me to get through this one. But it wasn’t just the hefty page count that slowed me down; I found myself needing frequent breaks from the harrowing journey of Margaux. Her story is one of raw, gut-wrenching pain as she navigates the insidious abuse from Timmy, which began in Volcano of Pain and escalates mercilessly in this sequel. Timmy’s mastery of manipulation is chilling, twisting every word and action to make Margaux feel like she’s the one to blame. It’s both devastating and infuriating to witness her struggle, caught between moments of strength and heartbreaking capitulation. The portrayal of abuse here is disturbingly realistic and unflinchingly honest, so be mindful of potential triggers if you’re sensitive to such themes. One of the most compelling and frustrating aspects of this novel is the constant battle in Margaux’s mind. Just when it seems she might finally break free, Timmy manages to worm his way back in and the cycle is repeated on and on. It’s a relentless psychological thriller that keeps you questioning everyone’s motives and has your heart pounding with an ever-present sense of danger. Though there are undeniably some steamy scenes, calling this a romance—dark or otherwise—feels misleading. It’s far more a story of survival and the terrifying complexities of manipulation and domestic violence. However, I can’t hide my disappointment in Dex. For a character who’s supposedly the hero, his near absence throughout most of the book was baffling. His efforts to sabotage Timmy felt underwhelming at best. Truthfully, I thought Alice did a lot more to save Margaux than Dex, especially when things got really hard. While the ending offers a glimmer of hope, I felt it was long overdue. Margaux’s journey to reclaim her strength is powerful, but it left me wondering if she’ll ever be able to trust love again— even from a man who wants to show her what love truly is? Ultimately, this book shows us an intense, psychological battle that will leave you emotionally exhausted but ultimately inspired. Margaux’s journey to reclaim her strength is powerful and triumphant, offering a sense of hard-won victory that resonates long after the final page.

Heidi Stark’s Beautiful Terror is a gripping and deeply emotional conclusion to the Burn It All Down duet. Dark, intense, and unapologetically raw, this novel pulls readers through a rollercoaster of pain, healing, and resilience. Stark fearlessly explores the darkest corners of human behavior while delivering a love story that is as tender as it is turbulent.

Picking up where Volcano of Pain left off, Beautiful Terror finds Margaux still reeling from the aftermath of her toxic relationship. Seeking solace in the tropical paradise of Sunset Cay, she attempts to rebuild her life. But the shadows of her past remain, threatening to destroy her fragile sense of peace. With a stalker who refuses to let her go and a twisted web of lies unraveling, Margaux’s journey toward freedom is anything but straightforward.

Dex, the fiercely protective brother’s best friend, takes center stage as a complicated and layered hero. Possessive and unrelenting, yet deeply wounded, Dex is determined to shield Margaux from further harm — even if it means confronting his own demons. Stark does an excellent job of portraying his morally gray nature, making him both terrifying and endearing. His unwavering devotion to Margaux adds an emotional depth that keeps readers fully invested.

The chemistry between Margaux and Dex crackles with tension and longing. The slow-burn romance is carefully balanced with moments of tenderness and heartbreak, offering a glimmer of hope amidst the darkness. Stark doesn’t shy away from exploring the devastating impact of domestic violence and trauma, but she handles these themes with sensitivity and authenticity.

The suspense in Beautiful Terror is relentless, with the ever-present threat of Margaux’s stalker looming large. Stark’s writing is immersive, drawing readers into the psychological terror Margaux faces. Every twist and revelation keeps the pages turning, and the emotional stakes remain high until the very end.

For readers who appreciate dark romance with complex characters, high emotional stakes, and themes of survival and redemption, Beautiful Terror delivers a powerful and satisfying conclusion. Stark’s masterful storytelling ensures this duet will stay with readers long after the final page.

Check your triggers!!

I was excited to read this book (second in duet)! I loved the first one so much and was thrilled to read the second book to.find out what happened. I am still unsure of how I really feel about everything in the book. I truly enjoyed the book and was hooked and had to finish it, but I was nothing from what I expected.

Heidi Stark definitely has a way with her words and keeps you hooked and waiting to see how the book ends. I just feel it was a little drawn out, longer than it needed to be, and I felt like more needed to happen or it needed to be darker than it was to be a pitch black dark romance. The last 10%/10 chapters were my kind of dark and spicy I always look for in a dark romance, but I felt the rest of this book needed more like the first in the series had.

I thoroughly enjoyed the story line and development of characters and twists and turns but there was something else I desired that I can't put my fingers on. Maybe a third book would give me the clarity I need, but if you enjoy specific triggers like DV, or special kinks, and want to stay on your toes throughout the book, this duet is for you. Must read book 1 in duet to not be lost and have a full story with a happy ending. Any story of DV hits deep and keeps me on my toes, but I think this one was nicely laid out with both the dark parts, the happy parts, and the unsure parts that is must mention. I understand it's no for everyone, but I am always down for any type of dark romance.

I felt for Margaux throughout the series and she really had my internal voice screaming for her throughout this book. I hated Timmy entirely but knew it was a needed terror for this book and series. I have mixed feelings about Dex but think his misplaced evil was necessary for him and the storyline. Phil was an absolute ZERO but I enjoyed the dynamic he added to the story. I think some added character within the Margaux and Timmy duet sooner could have made more enhanced darkness and twists to keep me going.

I would definitely recommend this book to others and any of Heidi Stark's writing, but I think overall this book could have been shorter, darker, and spicier.

Beautiful Terror is book two in the Burn It All Down Duet. This book is part of a duet, so I recommend reading the first book because this picks up where the first book left off. It is a dark romantic suspense with danger, drama, secrets, emotion, tension, passion, and chemistry with a stalker element to it. It does have pages of trigger warnings at the beginning of the book which you might want to read over first.

The story centers around the MC of Margaux who has moved in hopes of starting fresh. She meets a man who seems to be the man of her dreams, but something dangerous lurks under the surface. She finds herself in an abusive relationship with Timmy who twists everything around to make himself look like the victim of the things that he is, in fact, doing to her. Dex Is Margaux’s childhood best friend's brother. He has always felt protective of Margaux, and she has always felt an attraction for him. He has been watching from a distance trying to find a way to keep her safe. When she can muster up the courage to leave Dex is there for her to lean on. He wants to protect her in the best way that he knows and show her what love really is without scaring her away. Dex knows that if he pushes too hard that it might scare her away.

This book dives into a lot of heavy topics, including narcissistic abuse, mental abuse, and physical abuse. It was a rollercoaster ride of emotions for me as I read through it. I understand the complexities of abusive relationships having been in them myself. My heart hurt for Margaux, and I really hoped that she could find the happiness and true love that she deserved.
Overall, this was a good read, but I did find that it was a little bit lengthy. I also struggled with the way Dex handled the situation by messing with Timmy electronically, there were other ways that he could have helped Margo without doing that. In a real-life abuse situation, this could potentially make the situation more volatile and dangerous for Margaux.

Beautiful Terror is the second book in the Burn It All Down Duet by Heidi Stark. This follows on from the first installment and should be read as part of a duet- so I would not recommend reading this as a standalone.
As I mentioned in my review for the first book, this promised a dark romantic suspense with a stalker element, secrets, danger, dramatic developments, tension, raw and gritty details, chemistry, sizzle, emotion, and intensity. It comes with PAGES of trigger warnings… so if you have any issues you should read them before diving in. Dark romance is one of my guilty pleasures, and I have read and loved a LOT of them, so when I saw this pop up on social media I couldn’t wait to discover all the dark and suspenseful details that this might hold.
After reading this duet, I can’t say that I felt the ‘romance’ side of the story- to me it read more like a tense psychological drama rather than a dark romance. I also felt that the author was ‘trying too hard’ with all the ‘triggers’ she added in the book/duet. It felt more like she ‘gathered’ all the ingredients that could be used in a ‘dark’ romance- and then decided to throw them all into the mix, and while that could work at times- in this instance, for me, it didn’t. And unfortunately, I felt it was also detrimental to the story, character connection/chemistry, and their development. These issues made it difficult to fully connecting to the characters, as the MMCs were detestable in so many ways, and while I normally love a good antihero or morally gray/black character I didn’t find that here ---- and the FMC just frustrated me to no end.
But that is just my opinion, and looking at some of the other reviews, I seem to be on my own in that department, so if this interests you in any way then you should probably grab a copy and decide for yourself.
Happy Reading…

Thank you, Heidi Stark!

“In Dex We Trust.”

*Beautiful Terror* by Heidi Stark is a thrilling, edge-of-your-seat romance that will keep you hooked from start to finish. Heidi Stark does an excellent job balancing these darker elements while keeping the emotional stakes high. It’s a fast-paced read that has enough twists and turns to keep you guessing. My heart rate has so high while reading this book! I absolutely love how Margaux would stick up for her self but it made me mad how she let Timmy back in. I completely understand why she did , I was in a relationship that i felt the same way about leaving!

Beautiful Terror is an intense read, blending romance with suspense in a way that pulls no punches. The book examines the complexities of love, possession, and the danger of getting too close to someone with a past full of secrets. While the romance is steamy and full of tension, it’s the darker elements of the story—the psychological games, the ever-present danger, and the question of who can truly be trusted—that make it so captivating.

If you're a fan of dark romance with edge-of-your-seat suspense and a complex, morally grey hero, Beautiful Terror will not disappoint. It’s a rollercoaster ride of passion, fear, and longing that will keep you hooked until the very last page. Just be prepared for the darkness that lurks behind the surface—and remember, not everything in this story is as it seems.

Definitely read book one Volcano of pain before release date to fully comprehend what’s happening!

**Possible Spoilers**

This one is hard for me because I don't think it's a romance, not in the traditional sense. If it had been marked as a fictionalized memoir or something along those lines then I do believe it would have hit it's mark. The problem labeling it romance is Dex is barely in it. I understood it for the first book but expected much more of him actually with Margaux in this one and just didn't get that. That said, I was invested in the story and the outcome.

I'm still not sure the ages of everyone but they all were acting like children. Every single one of them needed to grow up and act like an adult. It was insane, Margaux constantly calling Timmy's dad. Weird. Another thing that really bothered me was that Margaux was constantly allowing Saber to be put in harms way. Look I get it's a hard situation but I would NEVER leave my pet with someone who was that unstable. That did not endear me to Margaux and I struggled to feel emotional for her or root for her.

I liked that we did get a little more from Dex's perspective but I would have loved more of them actually together. I never really felt any connection between them because they were never actually together until the very end. I still think this duet could have been cut down to just one book and it would have flowed much better. There was quite a bit a repetition and confusing timelines.

Honestly I think Margaux should have spent time on herself. Healing and finding her new normal on her own. I think she rushed things with Dex because she still needs that external validation and constant companionship. If you want a raw look at domestic violence and all that goes along with it than you might enjoy this duet.

This is the second book in the Burn It All Down Duet. This can't be read as a standalone so you do definitely need to read Volcano of Pain first as this book picks up right where that one ends. Like my review for the first book i do strongly recommend reading the trigger warnings before diving into this book. We continue the story with Margaux and Timmy as their relationship, the control, the emotional and physical abuse just keeps getting worse. I couldn't help but feel sorry for Margaux as at first I witnessed her slow decline as Timmy made her believe she was worthless and it was all her fault. Having been in that situation myself I understand how helpless she felt and how she questioned everything and doubted her sanity. It was also great reading how she eventually sees Timmy from the man he is and finally gets the strength and courage to leave.
The author handled this relationship in a way that was respectful but at the same time gives people a very real insight into what it's like to be in an abusive relationship and how the victim has to fight everyday just to survive.
And we still have Dex in the background. I will admit there were times I was screaming at him to actually help her but he kept holding back. Even though I did enjoy reading the ways he messed with Timmy I feel that effort would have been best aimed at supporting Margaux.
Overall these two books for me were very well written. I was dragged into their story and I couldn't put it down until I knew what Margaux fate would be. I will admit there were times when I feared that she wouldn't be strong enough to escape and leave or that Timmy may take the abuse too far.

This book is set immediately after the first book in the series titled “Volcano of Pain”. If you have not read it, please do before starting this one.

Margaux is still trapped in her abusive relationship with Timmy. Her rose-coloured glasses are off but she feels trapped. Mostly by her self confidence. She is so desperate for love that she is willing to dismiss most of the bad things about Timmy and shine only the good things.

Dex still has a hero complex when it comes to Margaux, stemming from when they were younger. He was always there for her and he still wants to be. He knows he has to play this right or he will risk pushing her deeper into Timmy’s arms. Dex has decided to mess with Timmy.

I resonate deeply with Margaux. I also was in a couple of abusive relationships and it is almost impossible to get out, especially when one of your demons is yourself. I cheered for her from the sidelines hoping she would get out unscathed.

Dex, well I have mixed feelings about him. There is no doubt that he loves Margaux but in my opinion, he is no better than her abusive boyfriend. He sat there and watched her suffer for years, only appearing every once in a while. He could have been there for Margaux more and in a different way. It's hard to be a knight in shining armour from the shadows.

The author once again did an amazing job portraying emotions of a broken woman trying to heal herself while also feeling trapped in her life. My only issue, just like what I said about the previous book, is that the books are too long and sometimes feels like a lot of unnecessary & repetitive details.

Beautiful Terror

Beautiful Terror by Heidi Stark is book two of the Burn It All Down Duet. You have to read book one to understand this one. This book is titled a Dark Stalker Romance but personally I think it leans more towards a Psychological Thriller/Pitch Black Romance with a tiny dose of stalker. It is heavy on trigger warnings so please read those carefully.

Beautiful Terror picks up right where Volcano of Pain leaves off. We get a better understanding of Timmy and the toxic life he created for himself and how it has impacted everyone around him. We are introduced to a few more key characters like his dad and how he enables Timmy and his behavior including his drugs and alcohol abuse. We also get a larger dose of Dex who has to patiently sit back and watch everything unfold until Margaux is ready to truly leave Timmy and we meet Alice who is truly an amazing human for Margaux. This book has a HEA but the journey to get there is so heartbreaking. We get to see Margaux go from being a broken woman in a very toxic and abusive relationship with a narcissist, to being a survivor who pulls herself out of the darkness and begin her healing journey with her cat Sabre right by her side along with Dex and Alice.

This is heavy, it’ll exhaust you but the end is so beautiful that it makes the whole reading journey worth it.

I was so looking forward to reading this book, the story continues with Timmy & Margaux abusive relationship. The Timmy that was portrayed at the start of Volcano of Pain doesn't really appear again to warrant any redemption. The book is raw, an indepth look at domestic abuse, by physical and emotional torture. It gripped me and made me feel so involved in the story. I felt like ripping Margaux from the pages it was that well written by Heidi, you know she has been there in those volatike situations.
Some reviews state that this book was too long and repetitive, I get that, but in order to truly feel what Margaux endured, I felt that was necessary. Abuse is so hard to remove yorself from, time and time again people often say why did you stay so long!
I don't want to delve into this story too much as you need to read this duet yourself. Dex was a lifeline and was there for her, showing Margaux that not all men are abusive, I wish that they had more chapters at the end, but I huess this duet was more about the pain that Margaux went through in order to come out the other side. It wsn't about her and Dex.
Grab your tissues, curl up and please read the trigger warnings as there are many.
4.5* for the writing. I look forward to reading more from Heidi as she is such a talented writer. A rarity to show the reader your own vulnerbility.
Thanks to Heidi and her team for giving me this ARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This is the highly emotional conclusion of the duet. Margaux and Timmy are stuck in the cycle of abuse that is their relationship. Margaux experiences so much in her time with Timmy.

This part is as emotionally charged as the first book. The danger, the fear, the pain are so real. The haunting honesty this author writes the different scenes with is truly scary.

As much as I want to provide details into Margaux and Timmy’s life in this one, it almost seems like any detail is too much, a spoiler. Margaux’s life doesn't get easier. Timmy doesn’t change. The only addition seems to be the physical manifestation of stress on Margaux’s body.

I also have to say that Dex’s involvement is unsettling but disappointing at the same time. Like you want there to be more, but he has a point. His known interference would not have been well received until Margaux was ready for it.

There are some brutal truths during the conversation that Dex has with his social worker friend about how the process for abuse survivors is unfair, difficult, tedious, and immensely favors the abuser. You see this when Margaux goes to file for the TRO.

The beautiful brutality of which the author writes is almost too much to handle. This book does not hold back. Please note your triggers and keep yourself safe as you experience Margaux’s journey. You might need your own emotional support Sabre.

Amazing, soul-wrenching, fantastic.

I received an ARC copy of 'Beautiful Terror' by Heidi Stark. This was a really good read. This book continues right after 'Volcano of Pain'. Reading these two books back to back was a lot. I had to take a couple days break for various reasons. This was a good read nonetheless.

As the story continues we see the enabling nature of Timmy's parents, how truly in love you can be with someone that is a danger to your life, and the importance of having a village when it comes time for you to leave that person for good. Margaux in this book was a lot to handle because of everything she was going through. I know you want people just to be there for you, but you have to understand sometimes they need to leave you in order to protect themselves. I loved how she tried so hard to see the good but once she honestly started listening to those around her and putting into practice what they were saying she realized that crumbs of the bare minimum is not the way to live. Dex did his big one in this book. I was so mad that he did not get his lick back for Margaux. Those chapters definitely gave that one scene from Breaking Dawn P. 2.

I really do recommend this book. I would say that you should take a break between the two because it can get to be a little to much even if you do not really have triggers. Heidi Stark knows how to write a dark romance. Do not let the amount of pages deter you. Every word is worth the read.

This is definitely a book for those over 18 and the trigger warnings must be read before embarking on this journey.

Margaux is back and she is still with her surfer and is writing her dark romance novels as a full-time career, but her relationship is not what it seems to the outside, the cracks are deepening, and she is now in a constant state of anxiety and fear for what his moods will be like from day to day, as well as sometimes even hour to hour.

She is still in Sunset Cay; however, she is not entirely living her dream, she is now in a new place and away from the familiarity she expected to have and between this and not having many friends around, she feels increasingly isolated and only has a couple of lifelines that she can tug on to keep her afloat.

Fortunately for Margaux, she has her childhood friend Dex keeping an eye on her from afar and protecting her like he always has done, but although he is Margaux's secret dream and a dangerous one at that, but she is also his and he will go to any lengths to protect her, but he knows that he has to bide his time before he can act.

Will Dex be able to hold himself on this knife edge of action and inaction, or will Margaux end up pushing him into acting too soon? This is the second part of an extremely suspenseful dark romance where darkness surrounds everyone and everything is stretching to breaking point, but what will happen when that point is reached, you will only find out by reading this duet to its finale.

We're back with Margaux in Beautiful Terror, book 2 in the Burn It All Down duet. It picks up from the intense conclusion of Volcano Of Pain and OH MY HADES!!!! What I wouldn't give just to touch Timmy for 5 seconds! I have never so thoroughly disliked a character as I do him. My heart absolutely aches for Margaux! This author and her characters take readers on a very dark, very intense, very emotional, extremely heartbreaking journey. Make sure to check the trigger warnings before you start reading. This book will have you feeling so much and at times so much all at once.

"Without him, she probably feels like she has nothing. And he knows it."

Then there's Dex. He's the one who wants to give her the world everything in it. He's the kind of guy every woman needs. But is Margaux too broken to see her true worth?

"Dex. My anchor, my protector, my safe harbor in a storm."

This story is about hope and the power of ultimate love. It's about shattered souls, being broken almost to the point of no return and then that perfect someone comes along who has the ability to make you whole again. To make you see your true value and and everything you have to offer.

I know I probably sound a bit contradictory but once you read Beautiful Terror you'll know exactly what I'm talking about.

"Closure doesn’t always come wrapped in a neat little bow."
