More to Give

Rate this book
Callie Henderson had to fight to put her tragic past behind her, but now the up-and-coming player in the hospitality industry is well on her way to happiness. She has her sights set on the lead renovation position at the Sunset Harbor Inn - an inn that just happens to be owned by Sam Edwards, the man who comforted her in her grief and gave her one night of passion before walking away.

Sam is searching for someone who can turn his quaint inn into a premier boutique hotel. He just never expected that someone to be the one woman who knows his deepest secrets. But he needs Callie, and Callie needs the job. Throw in a talking parrot with a cracker addiction, some uncooperative islanders, and enough sexual sparks to light a beach side bonfire, and they've got their work cut out for them.

"More to Give" is a story of heartbreak and healing, of facing the past and having the courage to believe in a future.

4 delightful stars!

Sam Edwards is the mysterious and aloof business man who inherited two hotels on Anchor Island. One of the hotels needed to be renovated, and that where Callie Henderson comes in. Unbeknownst to many on the island, Callie and Sam have a complicated past together. And although she has some misgivings about working with Sam, Callie needed this job to establish herself professionally.

This was another winner for me from Terri Osburn. I love her style of writing, her characters, the dialogue -- everything. Unlike previous characters from this series, Callie and Sam weren't Anchor Island lifers. They are outsiders essentially, but you see both of their characters being drawn to the island and its people.

The attraction between them coupled with their history made things complicated for both of them. Not only that Sam is intent on leaving the island as soon as he fulfills the stipulations of his Uncle Morty's will. Callie on the other hand fell in love with the island and found meaningful connections on the island.

Aside from Sam and Callie, we also get a glimpse of Sid (I love her!) and Lucas, Beth and Joe, Will and Randy and a few new characters. And that epilogue was just divine. I have to say Up to the Challenge is still my favorite among the four but this is still a great read. This book is definitely better than most of the other books out there.

This is fourth book from Terri Osburn, and definitely not my last. She writes stories that I want to read over and over again, so it's safe to say that I will read anything from this author.

the last book in the Anchor Island series was great! This is Sam Edwards story, and I remember being very intrigued about the mysterious and quiet hotelier in the previous book. Spending his adolescent summers on Anchor with his now deceased uncle Morty, Sam somehow forgot how peaceful and beautiful the little island could be. But coming back as an adult and upgrading both hotels has left Sam wanting out. That's until Callie, a woman from his past comes to interview for the position to redecorate one of his hotels and bring it up to snuff.

Callie represents a past Sam wishes would stay buried, but she also ignites a passion and attraction he can't ignore. Working together, Callie and Sam are forced to acknowledge the electricity between them but what happens when Callie's job is finished? Can Sam let go of his insecurities and give Callie what he thinks she deserves?

I loved learning about Sam and his coveted past. He was a man changed by failures and used those shortcomings to keep to himself. He never dabbled with the locals and earned a cold shoulder in return. For the majority of this book he tried keeping Callie at a distance. His fears of making the same mistakes twice prevented him from fully giving himself to her, so it was a push and pull, both people fighting their own demons and letting them get in the way of truly finding happiness with one another. Sam was a sexy and brooding man at times, using his professional demeanor to deny his feelings for Callie. Callie was a woman scared to believe she was good enough on her own for a man to want her for HER. Both Callie's and Sam's past was complicated and intertwined but watching them get over the obstacles and embrace the love between each other was lovely.

Terri Osburn's writing reminds me of Kristan Higgins. The wonderful secondary cast and the evocative backgrounds both bring something special to romance. The epilogue was sweet and perfect, the whole island and its colorful inhabitants making it even better. This series is fantastic if you've never read it, my favorite one being Meant To Be. I'm going to miss this island, all the great people and the touching romance, loved it.

this is a perfect small-town romance series filled with all kind of tropes for the picking
each book can be read as standalone !!
book one Meant to Be is forbidden romance
book two Up to the Challenge love form afar for years
book three Home to Stay best friend's brother
book four More to Give workplace/ second chance romance

each book has an emotional aspect of the story but everything was very well written with a healthy dose of charm, wit, and steam... if you want some light, charming & cute novels pick this series up...

I loved the humor of this one...there were some good lines here... and pet parrot too...

Callie is a specialist in renovating hotels. It's her job to take a fading beauty and breath new life into it. But until now she has always had to play second fiddle, done the work and then sat back to watch someone else take the credit. When a job comes up on Anchor Island it seems like the perfect fit. A hotel that will lift her to the next level in the industry. The only thing standing in her way is her past history with the owner.

When Callie walks into his office, Sam immediately knows hiring her to manage the renovations of his hotel is a bad idea. But seeing her desperation, he gives her the job and resigns himself to avoiding her for the duration. Unfortunately for Sam, Callie is not someone to be ignored.

Every now and then an author comes along who revitalises a genre. They manage to bring back the excitement and give you a glimpse of where the genre is heading. Terri Osburn is one of those authors. In the past few years she has owned Contemporary Romance in my humble opinion.

More to Give is a proper CR, it follows all the rules of the genre, and it still manages to be refreshing and current. It's one of my favorite books of the year from one of the few authors that leave me so happy I could jump.

Many thanks to Montlake Romance and Netgalley for providing me with this ARC

This last book in the Anchor Island series is bittersweet for me. The series started on an uexpectedly high note with Terri Osburn's debut novel, Meant to Be and just kept going strong. Well, it's ending that way too.

Sam and Callie have a complex and tragic history, one of grief and passion, and one that both had thought they had left behind. Until Callie shows up on Anchor Island to apply for the open position in Sam's hotel. Sam needs someone to revamp the aging hotel that he inherited. But when Callie walks into his office, he's well aware that hiring her is just asking for trouble. Yet somehow, he finds himself with his past in his present, and he can't seem to stay away. Turns out, these two need each other more than they did all those years ago.

"For one dark moment, he wallowed in his loneliness, let the anger and frustration sink into his bones until he could feel himself vibrating with it."

As Anchor Island seems to do, the quaint little town sucks Callie in. From the cantankerous old men and grumpy old women to the close knit group of ladies who quickly bring her in to their fold, Callie begins to fall in love...with more than just the island.

A high point of this book in particular for me was how Sam and Callie seemed to be on even ground romantically. Sure, Sam was the boss and Callie his employee, but on an emotional level, they were equals. Equally confused, equally smitten, and equally lustful. There is a great back and forth between these two, and the balance between sexual chemistry and plain old attraction is evident. Despite the intensity between Callie and Sam each time they are together, they really just seem to fit.

"With that flush on her cheeks and look of hero worship in her eyes, Sam would have followed Callie anywhere she wanted to take him."

The secondary characters for this series have been a huge part of why Anchor Island is such an endearing place to be, and the trend continues here. A charismatic parrot and an inappropriate mother make a guest appearance, as well as the three previous couples that we've come to know and love. It's the simple things that matter to this wonderful cast of characters, and we get to see a culmination of their romances in this final installment. It was a wonderful tribute to them all.

This was a book about how the past may shape us, but it doesn't define us. Change is hard for everyone, but especially when it's yourself that needs to change your way of thinking. Callie learns that she is worth more than she ever gave herself credit for, and Sam comes to understand that sometimes things are perfect just as they are.

I'm sad to leave the Island, but thrilled that this isn't the end for the talented Terri Osburn. I can't wait to see what else she has in store for us!

description

More to Give is a sweet story between Sam and Callie who met a few years ago due to circumstances brought about by their respective spouses. A few years later, Callie applies for a job with Sam. He didn’t know it was Callie who he was interviewing and considering for the position. Callie knew and remembered Sam but she didn’t care because she desperately needed a job.

This is one of those stories wherein I liked the heroine more than the hero. Callie is strong, determined, and quite charming. Sure she had insecurities because of the way her mother has treated her. But Callie didn’t dwell in the past and went after what she wanted. Sam on the other hand was a bit too stiff and stoic. I found him unyielding and frustrating at times. But if indeed opposites attract, then Callie and Sam are perfect for each other.

We get to see previous characters of the series and find out how they are all doing. The secondary characters just like the previous stories are quite funny in this as well.

I recommend More to Give and the Anchor Island series to fans of Jill Shalvis. This series has a similar vibe as the Lucky Harbor series.

4.5 Stars!

You just never know what you are going to get when you request an ARC from a "new to you" author. In this particular case, I truly stumbled upon a gem because I am now a full-fledged Terri Osburn fan. Her classical writing style is exciting, easy to read, and More to Give is an absorbing combination of emotion, liveliness, humor and romance.

Callie Henderson and Sam Edwards share a tragic past, along with a single night of passion. Overtime, Callie has turned her life around and is now on the cusp of making a name for herself in the hotel renovation business. Sam is a successful hotel owner, who needs someone with Callie's expertise to turn his late uncle's inn into a premier boutique hotel. Once Sam realizes how much he needs Callie, their professional and personal relationship begins.

I really liked this book and found Callie and Sam to be amazingly perfect for each other. They have great chemistry and I found their ability to overcome their past and find happiness together to be quite uplifting. I immediately connected to them as individuals and as a couple. I felt Callie's discomfort about practically begging Sam for a job, and loved how Sam set aside his stodgy attitude and pitched in when the chips were down.

The nosiness of the inhabitants of Anchor Island, as well as the raunchy antics of Callie's mother, provided some very funny laugh out loud moments. To top it all off, Callie's cracker addicted parrot never failed to make me chuckle.

More to Give is a charming and touching contemporary romance. It is replete with desire, well-defined characters and a compelling storyline. The wonderfully presented epilogue is the icing on the cake. I truly enjoyed this story and although this is the fourth book in Ms. Osburn's Anchor Island series, it can be read as a stand alone. However, I was a little confused at the beginning when some of the secondary characters were introduced, yet it did not take long for me to put all the personalities into their proper places. I am looking forward to my next visit to Anchor Island.

If Terri Osburn wasn’t already one of my favorite authors, More to Give solidifies her with that title. Terri has managed to write a book full of humor (thank you, Cecil) but has also brought tender, heart-warming moments.

Callie Henderson and Sam Edwards have a very interesting past. It’s a past that Callie has learned and grown from. And it’s also a past that Sam appears to use as a shield to not let anyone get close. The two meet up again when Sam runs an ad for a Project Lead, to turn his dilapidated Sunset Harbor Inn into a premier boutique hotel. The last person Sam expects to walk into his office is Callie. She’s different from the way he remembers her and she is now a force to be reckoned with.

More to Give is the story of two people who have become broken through no fault of their own, struggling to realize what they’re capable of. Who they can be and what do they have to offer? I loved the push and pull Callie and Sam had going on. I loved that each of them had the ability to be strong for the other and give them the push and encouragement they needed, when they needed it.

More to Give is the fourth and final book in the Anchor Island series, but it can be read as a standalone. Terri did a wonderful job of bringing the previous three couples back and giving them a wonderful farewell. As with all the books in this series, the title itself truly sums up this couple. Callie and Sam definitely have more to give to each other than they ever imagined.

Gosh I love this series ! Sweet and Heartwarming.

Whenever I read a book from this series, I am wishing for those hot guys and imagie living a beautiful life on a tiny island.

I hardly come across sweet romances done so well. Another one I can think of is the Virgin River serie by Robyn Carr.

I lov Callie and Sam. I loved the way how the romance focused on their present moments. With a past as theirs, author could have done a terrible job by constantly bringing up past and being angsty.

Instead she did a brilliant job! I love you Terri Osburn Keep them coming and I will keep buying!

Another great addition to the Anchor Island series. This one is about the always stoic Sam Edwards, the island hotelier and the beautiful island newcomer Callie Henderson. They have a tragic shared past so when she shows up applying for a job Sam has, he is shocked.

This is a fantastically written story with the great cast of characters we have met in the prior books. This is part of a series but can easily be read as a standalone. I highly recommend this book and series to everyone.

Callie è spezzata e pronta a voltare pagina.

Another quick, cute read

Calliope Henderson was desperately looking for another job. When the perfect job appeared, she decided to take a gamble on the fact that the potential employer was someone with whom she was very well acquainted with. She was hoping he would've forgotten that one night and give her a job because well, she was very desperate.
Sam, the enigma of Anchor Island couldn't believe his eyes when he saw who his next hotel designer would be. She was by far the best candidate he had and he couldn't let a silly thing like their history get in the way... especially since they had such a tight deadline.
I enjoyed this series. I believe it captures well what occurs in a small community and how one thing affects the other. The characters are all unique in their own way and quite funny at times.

A light. Airy read. Definitely recommend.

Comunque consigliato! 💏

Six years ago, Callie Wellman’s husband and her best friend were killed in a fiery crash, exposing an extra-marital affair that left their respective spouses stunned by the unthinkable betrayal. Mired in mutual grief, Callie and Sam Edwards turned to one another in a single night of unplanned passion but by morning Sam had disappeared without a word. Callie moved on and with the help of therapy became a stronger person, returning to college and excelling in her chosen career – a career that has brought Callie (now using her maiden name of Henderson) to Anchor Island and a job interview with Sam. Will Sam remember her? Will he judge her on her merits or hold their spouses’ betrayal as well as that one night they shared against her? Callie desperately needs this job to take her career to the next level. Sam holds her future in his hands…in more ways than she can imagine.

Sam Edwards is counting the days until he’s able to leave Anchor Island. Tied to the island by the terms of his uncle’s will, he just wants to get the remodeling of his uncle’s inn completed, find a loophole in the will and get back to the mainland. He has no ties to the island, in fact, has made sure to not form any. Sam has become an expert at burying himself in his work, holding himself apart from the islanders, refusing to bring the ghosts of his past into the open and deal with them…until the day his past walks into his office and turns his well-ordered, sterile life upside down.

Terri Osburn’s Anchor Island has become one of my favorite fictional places to visit. She brings the slow-paced, laid-back island to life through the well-formed main characters and quirky old-timers who call the island home. Her stories are well-paced, heartwarming, often humorous and filled with the passion and pathos of real life. While I have enjoyed all four books in the series, More to Give edges out Meant to Be (Book #1) as my favorite. Callie and Sam have more than their spouses’ betrayal to overcome before they can claim a happy ending which makes that happy-ever-after all the more sweet when it finally occurs but it’s not a destination that they can reach on their own. They’re going to need a little help from their friends, including two irascible old men with a love of bickering over checkers, a gangly teenage boy who thinks he’s all that but blushes at the drop of a hat, our favorite couples from the first three books and, not to be forgotten, a fast-talking parrot with a gourmet cracker habit.

More to Give stands well on its own but, fair warning, once you meet the other residents of Anchor Island you’ll be buying their books faster than you can say, “Cecil wants a high-priced oval party cracker!”

«Da me»
e Callie?

Buona lettura

"More to Give (An Anchor Island Novel)" by Terri Osburn is a wonderful, continuation of the Anchor Island series. The book is filled with characters from the last three books which tie into the characters of this story.

Calliope "Wellman" aka Callie is going by her maiden name Callie Henderson when she meets up again with Sam Edwards. Callie and Sam's wife were friends. Six years prior Callie's husband and Sam's wife were killed in an accident. They were together because they were having an affair behind their spouses back. Callie and Sam hooked up for a brief f one night stand shortly after, and haven't seen each other in years.

Callie accepts a job to redesign and spruce up one of the hotels on Anchor Island that Sam owns. She knows when she applies that she will be working with someone she knows but Sam didn't recognize the name Calliope Henderson when he asked her to come over for an interview. Can sparks fly for them, or will the past get in the way?

There is so much more to this story that I don't want to give it all away. It is a definite MUST read. If you haven't read any of the other Anchor Island books you should definitely pick up this series. I'm hoping that the author will at some point continue with this series and that it really isn't the final Anchor Island novel. Maybe in a few years we can revisit with the next generation. One can always hope.

4.5 heartfelt stars

Sigh... I love the Anchor Island series, all the books have been such a joy to read.

More to Give is the final book in the Anchor Island series and once again Terri Osburn has written a very entertaining and enjoyable read.

I loved Callie, something about her connected with me. Loved her strength, determination and her charm, loved her.
Sam took a while for me to warm up to, he was very standoffish and at times the way he would talk to Callie made me want to reach into my Ipad and smack him.
Sam just didn't want to acknowledge his feelings for Callie and thought by keeping her at arms length it would make these feelings go away, yeah right lol

It was heartwarming seeing Sam slowly open up and letting Callie in, the boy won me over =)

The ending was very emotional for me, I loved how we got to spend time with all our favorite couples and even though this book can be read as a standalone I highly recommend you read all the books as you too will fall in love with these characters and their love story's.

Thank you Terri Osburn for writing and sharing your beautiful and heartfelt words with us, I'm going to miss this series but I'm also excited to read whatever you next have planned for us.

Thank you Netgalley and to Montlake Romance for the advance copy in exchange for my honest thoughts.

This is the 4th book in the Anchor Island series. While you wouldn't technically need to read the others to enjoy this one, you would be missing a load of character development for background characters if you didn't. I honestly probably never would have read this series if I hadn't received one of the books for free from Amazon. Of course it wasn't the first book so there was a long while there that it just sat on my shelf. Then all the sudden I see this book in the recommended section at the bottom of my Kindle for a load of the books that I was checking out. So I searched out the rest of the series and read them all in order and I was hooked. The first book I liked but I wasn't quite hooked yet. The second booked sucked me in and by the end of that book, I was in love with the Anchor Island characters and read through the rest of the series quickly. I will admit that each of the books does have a little bit of a template that they follow but they are each unique enough that they are not like reading the same book over and over. The series is very character driven so if you are a lover of characters, you will likely enjoy the series as much as I did. Hopefully, this book isn't the end. Perhaps Jude is the next leading man...

Perfect ending to a perfect series! Callie & Sam complemented each other perfectly & had a palpable chemistry, but they had a less than stellar past connection which is revealed in the beginning of the book. Sam inherited the inn from his uncle, with stipulations that he stay on the island for several years. He resents being stuck, so is resistant to socializing, other than for business purposes. Callie has come to renovate the hotel & needs the cooperation of the islanders to help with a speedy renovation. She needs to bring Sam out of his shell to get that cooperation. They also begin a physical relationship, and they are both in self-denial that it is growing into more. They also think that the relationship has an imminent end date, ending when the project is done. I loved seeing how they came to love each other. It was also great that the couples from the previous books played a part in this book. Loved this book & the whole series!

***ARC through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review***

A shared painful past. A shared one night of passion. Years later, they become boss and employee. Awkward? Some. But since their past relationship was never really defined, Callie and Sam do the defining now. And it helps define who they are now, too, as complex people with complex needs and wants. The chemistry was palpable but so was the underlying friendship that seemed to blossom from the past and from getting to know each other over again. Their journey in their relationship to each other and to the people around them was a wonderful one and I thoroughly enjoyed tagging along. I felt like one of the locals watching this all unfold.
