About the author

Jay Word

10 books18 followers
Jay Word writes emotionally charged thrillers with themes of crime, trauma, and dysfunctional families. Word shows how unlikely relationships can be formed through victimisation. The mothers in her stories have their own issues, and we see how these can affect their parenting.

Nobody can be trusted in the worlds that Word creates and real-life problems like crime, corruption, and child abuse are explored with diverse and inclusive characters.

Word tells her stories from the perspective of the victims and perpetrators, and she does this well. You will question everyone and everything after reading a book written by Jay Word.

Word also writes poetry. This form of writing preceeded her fiction, but it was only after losing years of unseen work that wasn’t backed up, and turning to poetry to help deal with the loss of all her personal possessions in a fire in June 2024, that she felt compelled to share her poetic craft. Word's poetry reflects some of the trauma explored in her fiction works.

Word's books are free to read with Kindle Unlimited. Purchase paperbacks from Amazon, Waterstones, Barnes & Noble, or direct from author website www.jaywordauthor.com

My rating: 4.2⭐

I related to many of the poems, they hit close to home and I often felt represented in them.
Even being mostly short poems they feel very deep and they definitely are self reflecting since they're about the author overcoming past difficulties and traumas in a way that almost feels like they're talking directly to us (the reader) through the pages.

The writing style was simple and very easy to read yet very enjoyable, I like that so it's definitely a plus.

I recommend it to everyone that went through hard times in life and overcame them.

A Powerful and Emotional Poetry Collection:

Jay Word’s Rhyme, Reason & Heal is a poetry collection that speaks straight to the heart. It is raw, honest, and deeply personal, yet so many of the poems feel relatable. The author shares her pain, struggles, and healing journey in a way that makes you feel like you’re not alone.

What I loved most about this book is how simple yet powerful the writing is. Poetry doesn’t have to be complicated to make an impact, and Jay Word proves that. Each poem is filled with emotion, and some of them hit so close to home that I had to take a moment to process them. It’s rare to find a book that truly makes you feel, and this one does exactly that.

I could see the author’s strength in every poem. She doesn’t just write about pain—she writes about healing, about finding hope even in the darkest moments. It’s inspiring to see how she turned her experiences into something so beautiful and meaningful.

If you love poetry that speaks to your soul, I highly recommend Rhyme, Reason & Heal.

This is the second book by Jay Word that I’ve read.

I love poetry and I applaud Jay for putting this out in the world. There is something more vulnerable to me putting out poetry rather than a story perhaps because the nature of poetry is to share your vulnerabilities with the reader.

The poems in this book are raw, vulnerable and real. Though her writing is simple it doesn’t take away how deep and powerful these poems are. It feels like you are looking directly into her soul as she shares glimpses into past trauma and the complicated journey of healing. Though these poems feel deeply personal of her experiences they also resonate with the reader and feel relatable.

This is truly an incredible read and I’d recommend it for anyone who enjoys poetry or who is on their own journey of healing.

Thank you Jay Word and Bookworm PR for the opportunity to receive an arc of this book. And thank you to Jay for your strength and courage to share your journey with the world ♥️

Jay here has portrayed the stages of healing in her poetry book. Beautifully i incorporating the feelings of hurt and betrayal changing to those of unbothered queen energy.

"Every bad thing that happened to me,
I could tell a tale of a lesson learnt.
I see healing skin growing on me now,
where it used to be badly burned."

This is a part of one of the poems and it beautifully sums up the theme of the book.

While reading these poems, you can immerse yourself in the feelings written by the author as everyone has experienced things like this one time or another.

For me being a writer as well, I could relate to her words a lot on how writing becomes reasoning.

Great collection for someone who is healing, or has healed and been through hardship.

Can I just start by saying how much I love Jay word books? I'm not really a poetry girlie but her poetry is so relatable In many ways it feels like she is holding ur hand thru the bad times of ur life and guiding u out of it by her personal experience. I have read her book, Vitamin P book 2 and Vitamin P book 3 and it was just so awesome.

Rhyme, reason and heal is her debut book in poetry section and this one for sure deserves more hype than what it already has. The book explores many topics like letting go of someone, prioritising yourself, real life experience of being the eldest daughter and all the struggles that comes with it, healing from relationships and so much more. I devoured the entire book in less than 1 hour and that's it. Its a very short read. And by the end of the book you will want more of her poetry I can guarantee you that.
I still can't move on from the fact that her poetry even touches the scars I never knew I had on me. She makes everything feel alive. When loosing hope her poetry always saves me. Not only this one but others too. This book was like sipping coffee and talking about all the problems with a bestie who went thru everything you are going thru and is giving you the love, attention, care and therapy for free.

Could have been a 5 star read but I just like her other poetry series more. But this book as a debut novel is like hats off praise for the author. Love her and her books !!🫶🏻

If you want a short easy read which will make ur heart feel at ease after any heart wrenching incident this book is ur boo!! 🤍🤭

Some books touch your heart, and some books heal it. Rhyme, Reason & Heal by Jay Word does both. From the very first page, I felt like I was stepping into the poet’s soul every rhyme felt like a heartbeat, every word like a whisper longing to be heard.

Each poem is a story in itself, not just written but felt. The way Jay Word weaves emotions into rhymes makes every piece powerful, raw, and incredibly personal. You don’t just read the words you experience them. It’s as if she’s taken pieces of her past, her pain, her healing, and laid them bare on the pages, giving us a book filled with the best, most healed version of herself.

And that’s what makes this collection so special. It’s not just her story it becomes yours. Somewhere in these pages, I found parts of myself I didn’t even know needed healing. I saw reflections of my own experiences, my own emotions, and for the first time in a while, I felt understood.

Did I love it? Absolutely, yes.

Do I recommend it? Without a doubt.

Can it connect with the events in your life? More than you’d expect.

If you love poetry that speaks, heals, and stays with you long after you close the book, Rhyme, Reason & Heal is a must-read. A definite 5-star masterpiece.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Rhyme, Reason & Heal by Jay Word is a poetry collection that feels like quiet company during emotional storms. The poems are raw, sincere, and deeply human—written not to impress, but to connect.

What I loved most about this book is its honesty. The verses don’t try to romanticize pain; they sit with it, acknowledge it, and gently move toward healing. Each poem reads like a thought you didn’t know how to put into words until someone else did it for you.

The writing is simple yet powerful. Some poems are short, but they linger long after you’ve read them. There’s a beautiful rhythm throughout the collection—moving from hurt, confusion, and longing to acceptance and self-awareness.

This is not a book to rush through. It’s meant to be read slowly, felt deeply, and returned to when emotions feel heavy.

Overall, Rhyme, Reason & Heal is a comforting and reflective poetry collection that reminds you healing isn’t perfect or linear—but it is possible. Highly recommended for readers who enjoy emotional, soul-touching poetry. 🤍✨

Some books feel like a warm embrace, and Rhyme, Reason & Heal is exactly that. As I turned its pages, I found myself constantly thinking, Yes, I’ve felt this. Yes, this is exactly what I couldn’t put into words.

This poetry collection beautifully captures the emotions of heartbreak, healing, and the solace found in books. It reminds us that while pain, especially the kind that follows a breakup can be overwhelming, we eventually move on, grow, and survive. The book reassures us that even when problems seem insurmountable, resilience carries us through, even if it means breaking down first.

I finished it in one sitting, probably in just half an hour, because I simply couldn’t stop. The poems are short yet profoundly impactful, making it a comforting read for anyone who has ever felt lost or alone.

I’d highly recommend Rhyme, Reason & Heal. It’s the kind of book that stays with you, offering solace when you need it most.

It's a very short book, just 85 pages. Every poem feels like it was written on a day that mattered.

Jay Word doesn’t sugarcoat pain. She talks about heartbreak, trauma, letting go, healing, and the ugly in-between stages we don’t like admitting exist. The poems are short, simple, easy to read and somehow still manage to punch you in the chest. I Choose Solitude, The Passing Storm and Bucket List - stayed with me.

What really got me is how personal this collection feels. It’s like reading someone’s daily thoughts, their struggles, their health battles, their attempts to keep going with humor, honesty, and quiet strength. There’s no pretending here. Just truth.

This isn’t just a poetry book. If you’re in a phase where life feels heavy but you’re trying anyway this book will sit beside you and say, keep going.

Jay did it again. Jay poured out her heart in this book and will make us feel everything so deeply.
The words she writes are her stories, but somehow everyone can relate to it.
The book shatters you with reality but also gives you hope that things will be better.
I love subtle poetry and this book was exactly that!
The book tells you to stop expecting people to be there for you always, and how to start caring for yourselves because ultimately it's only you that's gonna be there for you and I loved this thought.
Every single poem speaks to you and i think that's something not every poet can do.
The author did an amazing work with this book! Recommending everyone to read this!! I'm sure you'll love ittt

"I started a mile ago
but lost focus a while ago.
I missed my turning
and I’m still learning
that a stop doesn’t have to last
and my journey
doesn’t need to be fast."

Rhyme, Reason & Heal by Jay Word 💙

It is a type of a book that you finish in a single sitting but one that stays with you for long.

It’s like a warm cup of tea for your soul. If you're looking for poetry that's both relatable and uplifting, this little book is a must-read.

Rhyme, Reason & Heal is a gentle and emotional collection that is like having coffee with someone who understands pain but has learned how to breathe through it. These are small and easy poems that are soothing but contain a certain emotional weight. Jay Word’s work is the kind that somehow tackles darkness like trauma and loss and makes them feel safe rather than terrifying. It’s reminded me of how recovery is never linear and how tiny doses of hope are always triumphs.

What I love most is that this book doesn’t try to pretty the pain and tie all the loose ends together. Instead, the poet writes about the mess that emotions are and still manages to make you feel comforted and strong. The rhymes make these poems very easy to fall into, and the words feel as though they are written for anyone who’s ever had ‘tattoos that scream silently.’

So, if you are interested in reading some soft yet powerful poetry that allows you to reflect and does not make you feel as though you are meant to escape reality, then you should add this book to your must-read list.

Rhyming, Reasoning & Healing by Jay Word is the first work I’ve read by this author, and yet I feel like I’ve gotten to know her so deeply through these short, powerful poems. Her words are both personal and universal, resonating in ways that made me pause, nod in agreement, and even screenshot certain lines to revisit later.

This collection reminded me how grateful I am for the different mediums we have to share our stories and experiences, to help one another learn, grow, and heal. Jay Word’s voice is raw, honest, and refreshing, and I’m so glad to have been introduced to her work. I’m already looking forward to reading more from her in the future.

I had started this book expecting something similar to the Vitamin P series but was pleasantly surprised.

This book is not as heavy as the Vitamin P series, while it does deal with her troubled relationship with her mother and other problems that she faces.

This book is something that everyone can relate to, if not to her struggles then to her love for books at the very least.

As an introverted, book reader certain poems in this book feel like a personal letter that I would have written to myself. While I could never be able to completely relate to the poet (her struggle and the way she deals with them are honestly admirable), the way she has expressed her anxiety and her difficulty with relationships truly called out to me.

Rhyme, Reason & Heal by Jay Word is a soft and honest poetry collection that feels deeply personal. The poems are short and simple, but they carry a lot of emotional weight. You can feel the author’s journey through pain, growth, and healing in every page.
What I liked most is how real the writing feels. It does not rush healing or try to make pain look pretty. It allows emotions to exist as they are, which makes the book comforting in a quiet way. Even though it is a quick read, the feelings stay with you.
This is the kind of poetry you read slowly, even when the poems are small, because they make you pause and reflect.

I wish I’d swam to shore sooner but I didn’t make the rules.
I’m just grateful that I no longer seek for love from fools.

Mini-review? Lives up to its title, and beautifully so ❤️

All of it just screams “girlboss energy” at me, and reading it makes me feel confident out of nowhere, which is very unusual for me because I’m a very dead-energy person. It has me going “hell yeah girl, you got this !!!” feeling all energetic and positive. And the rhymes-? Perfection. To be very honest, it felt like rap at some point, but that only made it so much better 🤭

While I wouldn’t exactly call these “poetic” per se, I have to admit that this collection is honestly such a vibe 🤌✨ relatable, motivating, emotional- it has all of it <3

I want someone to hear me when I’m silent. Someone who knows when my thoughts are violent. Someone who adds to my calm— a poet with charm. I pray for my life to be less strident.

Rhyme, Reason & Heal is such a short poetry book that you can complete in a single sitting. The poems revolve around pain and healing.

The words in this book hit the sweet spot. This is a collection of short and easy poems that carry emotional weight. Reading this book felt like the author had lived my life—but she found her way, and I am still searching for mine.

If you love poems about self-discovery, healing, and suffering, this book stays with you long after you turn the last page. The writing is simple and easy to understand

To describe this book, I’d say it really does capture what poetry really is. Which is feeling. Poetry can be a coping mechanism for some, and escape for others, and both for many. Reading the poems, I had felt drawn to Jay Words journey, and felt what she was conveying by writing her feelings on each page. It was truly a beautiful book.

"Rhyme, Reason, and Heal" hit me right in the gut. You can feel the author's pain radiating off the pages – it's raw and real. I found myself just wanting to reach through the book and make everything okay for her. It's impossible not to feel deeply for her journey.
What struck me most was her strength. Through all the hurt, she found a way to not just survive, but to express it beautifully. It's incredibly powerful to witness someone turn their pain into something that resonates so deeply. Her resilience is truly inspiring.

This was a very quick poetry that only took me one sitting. Rhyming poetry can sometimes feel a little forced but I there’s a lot of tough subjects tackled by Jay Word’s collection and I think what I took most from this was just how relatable it was.
