The BRAND NEW psychological thriller from Alex Stone!
Keep your enemies close...your sister closer...
To outsiders, twins Mia and Chloe have always been close, like good sisters should be. But in private their relationship is one of jealousy, resentment and bitterness.
Popular and attractive Mia is always the centre of attention, loved by all. Quiet and reserved, Chloe is overlooked and underestimated, and has tried to build a life away from Mia and her manipulation. Finally she is happy and content.
But then Mia returns and makes it clear that she wants to be part of her sister’s life again, to have everything Chloe has...including her new fiancé Scott.
Chloe can’t allow Mia to ruin her life again. She’s done this too many times in the past – always taking things that don’t belong to her.
As old tensions, secrets and lies return, tragedy strikes. And one sister will use the opportunity to live the life she has always wanted…the life she has always deserved.

Twin drama promised fireworks, but this book fizzled. Mia, the golden twin, and Chloe, the simmering shadow, quickly became a predictable loop of manipulation and resentment. Think of it like watching a hamster on a wheel – you get the point fast, and it doesn't get more exciting. The characters? Let's just say they weren't winning any popularity contests. Mia was a masterclass in selfishness, and Chloe perfected the art of passive victimhood. The supporting cast felt like cardboard cutouts, popping up only to push the plot along, which, by the way, was about as surprising as a sunrise. "Twists" were telegraphed like a neon sign, and the pacing? Imagine trying to wade through treacle. The story dragged, repeating itself like a scratched record, leaving me wondering if the manuscript could have benefited from a more rigorous polish. This book had potential, the whole twin rivalry thing is juicy! But it landed with a thud. Predictable, unlikable, and repetitive. It wasn't a total write-off, but it definitely needed a serious tune-up. Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author of the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
I had high hopes for this one—twin sisters, long-buried resentment, secrets, betrayal, murder, and plenty of bitterness—the perfect setup for a gripping psychological thriller. Unfortunately, it took until about 65% in for the story to truly pick up. While the twists were intriguing, the characters were more frustrating than anything else. It left me more irritated than invested, making it hard to fully connect with the story.
Thank you to Boldwood Books and Netgalley for providing an advanced reader’s copy 🤎
I feel so bad, I was bored the entire time :/. I normally don't use emojis on my reviews but that was literally my face throughout the whole book. I was about to dnf a couple of times but I was just too far along to quit, and to be honest, that was the entire reason why I didn't end up leaving it, curiosity of what happened didn't have anything to do with it. The plot was just too predictable. Everything was.
The Quiet Sister by Alex Stone had a compelling premise and some genuinely tense moments. However, I found myself struggling to keep the twin sisters straight towards the end, which unfortunately detracted from the final impact. Secrets, lies, jealousy … this book had it all. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this early release. Looking forward to more books by this author.
Thank you to Boldwood Books and NetGalley for an early release.
If you’re looking for a fast paced thriller this one is for you! Mia and Chloe have never had anything in common besides being twins. Chloe is finally starting to discover happiness when Mia disrupts her life once again. The Quiet Sister has lots of twist and turns involving relationships, friendships, and murder.
2.75 ⭐️ it felt like it was to long & kept going round and round in circles! The FMC kept making the same silly/horrible decisions that had me really frustrated & shouting 'WTF are you even doing?' out loud while listening to it in public 🫣
The Quiet Sister by Alex Stone Keep your enemies close...and your sister closer. To outsiders, twins Mia and Chloe appear to be very close, as good sisters should be. However, in private, their relationship is marked by jealousy, resentment, and bitterness. Mia, popular and attractive, always finds herself at the center of attention and is loved by everyone. In contrast, Chloe is quiet and reserved, often overlooked and underestimated. She has worked hard to build a life away from Mia and her manipulation, and finally feels happy and content. But then Mia returns, making it clear that she intends to reclaim a part of her sister's life—including Chloe's new fiancé, Scott. Chloe cannot allow Mia to ruin her life again. She has suffered too many times, watching Mia take what doesn’t belong to her. As old tensions, secrets, and lies resurface, tragedy strikes. One sister will seize the opportunity to live the life she has always desired...the life she has always deserved. Alex Stone delivers another unputdownable thriller. I have read and enjoyed all of Alex's previous books, so I was thrilled to join the tour for her latest novel. The Quiet Sister is a gripping, emotionally charged tale filled with deception and jealousy, packed with unexpected twists and set within an authentic chilling scenario. I want to thank publishers Boldwood Books author Alex Stone and Rachel's Random Resources for providing a copy to read and review.
3.5- I liked the book but it felt like a million years of build up. I wish we’d had a more impactful climax but it was kinda meh. I also think a last minute twist/who done it? Would’ve really put it over the edge. Resolution was mid.
This story is following twin sisters, betrayel and ambles of bitterness. I struggled to connect with the story as the sisters were quite frustrating. There was some good twists and over halfway through was more intrigued in the story.
The Quiet Sister by Alex Stone was a beautiful and powerful nail-biting psychological thriller, especially as this book is about twin sisters Mia is the golden twin, and Chloe, is the simmering shadow, their relationship is destroyed by jealousy. To outside world they always seems to be been close, like good sisters should be. But in private their relationship is one of jealousy, resentment and bitterness.
Popular and attractive Mia is always the centre of attention, loved by all. But, Quiet and reserved, Chloe is overlooked and underestimated, and has tried to build a life away from Mia and her manipulation. Finally she is happy and content.
Sadly when Mia returns she makes it very clear that she wants to be part of her sister’s life again, to have everything Chloe has. . . . . . . . including her new fiancé Scott.
Nothing will stop Mia, if she wants something. . . . . . she will get it. . . nothing will stop her!
Excellent book and full of lies, old tensions rises, and secrets come to the surface. But, then tragedy strikes. one sister will use the opportunity to live the life she has always wanted. . . . . . . the life she has always deserved.
I highly recommend this book Great holiday read.
Big Thank you to NetGalley and especially Boldwood Books for my ARC.
There is nothing quite like a sibling relationships and nothing quite like a twin relationship. It’s like extreme sibling rivalry, each side in the mirror wanting what the other has and Chloe and Mia are no different. Vying for parental attention, jealousy of what the other attracts.
I found the relationship between Mia and Chloe rather unique. Mia is a jet setter with he job and checks in with Chloe but has the expectation of getting undivided attention whilst Chloe is carving out her own content place in the world. Mia’s expectations are rather unrealistic – I didn’t like how she expected the world to revolve around her and everyone jumps to her script. Mia was not a sibling I’d like to have.
My narrating perspective shifted quickly from last to present and always told in the first person. It made it difficult and unsettling to not know who was talking to me to start with but as I went on, things became clearer and I rather enjoyed the trip Stone took me on.
Stone’s creative storytelling kept me glued to my kindle and as the story unfolded before me, I wanted to know more. I wanted a conclusion to explain everything – did I get it? You’ll have to read it yourself to find out. But I’ll definitely be reading more from Stone if this is anything to go by – a marvellous thriller!
Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for providing this book, with my honest review below.
The Quiet Sister was super twisty, relying a little heavily on the happenstance that the main character was a twin, but the structure of the story that had me on edge despite that. Chloe and Mia maybe twins but Mia sucked up all the confidence and extroversion in the womb, with Chloe left with a lot of self doubt that isn’t helped by some mysterious event in her past. When Mia comes back to London to reconnect it’s clear to Chloe that she’s also there to steal her partner Scott and destroy the tentative beginnings of success Chloe has found for herself. Told in present day and flashbacks (present day following a notable event at the start of the book and flashbacks leading up from a few months before to the notable event), readers have blinders removed slowly just as Chloe did, but untangling what exactly occurred, and most importantly why it did, made this fast paced and hard to look away from.
There were some plot points I wanted to spend more time with, like Mia’s motivation over the past year, and as mentioned the twin thing was a little too easy when this could have worked (creatively) without it, but I would recommend it for lovers of thrillers as it’s really gripping.
The Quiet Sister by Alex Stone is a gripping compulsive novel that you will easily read and just one or two sittings. Perfect for fans of Freida McFadden, Diane Saxon and B. A. Paris.
Identical twin sisters Chloe and Mia have grown up together and their personalities have always been different. Mia is way more outgoing and popular while Chloe is more reserved and quiet. Their relationship has always been strained with Mia being manipulative and bossy. Chloe has tried to live a peaceful life away from Mia but when Mia barrels her way back into Chloe's life, Mia has made it clear she will get what she wants.. even if what she wants is Chloe's fiance.
This novel is set up in flashbacks which did take a little bit to get used to but once you are accustomed to the style you will fly right through this book! Seriously, I love identical twin stories and this is a great addition to the trope. As we read through the story we find out exactly what happened in the past that makes this sisterly relationship so tense. Definitely recommend for fans of twin thrillers!
Thank you to NetGalley, Alex Stone, and Boldwood Books for this ARC. Expected publication date is March 10th 2025.
Two identical twin sisters with a long story of rivalry. Mia and Chloe are in her late 20s and trying to get back in touch after a long period of separation. But life changed them both and Chloe, the ´quiet one´ is decided this time to not allow her sister to destroy her life. No price is too high for this though...The Quiet Sister by Alex Stone is an interesting take on twins rivalry, generating a suspenseful psychological thriller where the plot is built up by fragments of memories, thoughts and switched personalities. The network of unconfessed guilt Chloe built as a way of psychological survival plays an important role in the main events. I´ve read the book with a lot of interest, and my curiosity was rewarded step by step, as new details about the motivations and especially recent history details were revealed. The idea of how childhood trauma and relationships between parents and children shape the personality of the future adults is a topic I am interested in recently therefore The Quiet Sister helped me to better understand such circumstances. A recommended read if you are looking for an intelligent take on sisterhood with a psychological mystery twist.
Disclaimer: Book offered as part of a book tour but the opinions are, as usual, my own
There are great things about being an identical twin, but when one twin is greedy and competitive, all bets are off! Mia and Chloe are twin sisters who have a complicated relationship. Mia is glamorous and wealthy, and travels the world as an interpreter. Chloe sells flowers at a stand and hopes to have her own shop one day. The story starts when one of the sisters dies in a fire and the rest of the book unpacks their lives which intertwine in unexpected ways.
I thought the story took time before getting into any action and I quickly grew annoyed as how gullible Chloe was as Mia stole boyfriends and opportunities away from her sister and always fooled her by saying "It was for the best". Chloe was also so passive it was hard to see how she could even function as she believed any lies told to her by her sister and by her new boyfriend Sean. The story goes back and forth showing the history of the sisters and the current timeframe where Chloe is trying to figure out how to live her life on her own terms. The mystery part of the book was well done but I found the sister's relationship to be frustrating and over the top. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this ARC in exchange for review.

The only thing that Mia and Chloe have in common is that they are twins. They both have completely different personalities. A twisted story of love and resentment. The story is quite predictable. Told in the present day and flashbacks telling us what had transpired in the past few months.

I would like to thank #NetGalley #BoldwoodBooks and the author #AlexStone for ARC of #TheQuietSister in exchange for an honest review.
First, I want to thank Alex Stone, Boldwood Books, Rachel’s Random Resources and NetGalley for providing me with this book so I can bring you this book.
Never has a Psychological Thriller triggered similar emotions as the main character as it did in Alex Stone’s The Quiet Sister. The similarities of the story were somewhat relatable to what I have been dealing with. Both Chloe and I both lost our father who we were close with. She has a twin and I have an Irish twin (born 11 months apart) who couldn’t be more different from each other. My heart broke into a million pieces when Chole went to her Dad’s place to find out everything was gone, no memory of them were there. Usually I can read a book in one sitting but this one It took me longer to finish. Not because it was not a good story-because she is a very good storyteller. Just for me I am still mourning my Dad and this was a little heavy too soon.
I totally understood how Chloe felt invisible when it came to the sibling rivalry with Mia.
The Quiet Sister by Alex Stone is a heart-pounding thriller.
Twins Mia and Chloe have always been close, at least that's how they seem. But behind closed doors their relationship is one of jealousy and bitterness. Mia is popular and attractive and always the center of attention, while reserved Chloe is often overlooked. Chloe tries to build a life that doesn't include Mia and is finally happy. Mia returns and wants everything Chloe has, including Chloe's fiance. Chloe is sick of Mia ruining her life again and again and won't stand for it anymore. It's a battle of the twins and you have to read the book to find out who, if anyone, wins.
The book takes a minute to adjust too and there are a lot of flashbacks but once you get used to the rhythm it makes much more sense. If you like Frieda McFadden like I do then you will love this book! Thank you Alex and Boldwood Books for partnering with NetGalley. I received an advanced reader copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion and review.
This book followed twin sisters; Mia, the golden child who was more popular, more beautiful, more confident and just better at everything. And Chloe, who had forced herself into the role of victim, forever in the shadow of her perfect sister. While it was interesting to see a negative twin dynamic, I felt like the story focused a bit too much on this. We get it, they didn't get on. Mia was a master manipulator and Chloe was the gullible one. I felt like it took the focus off the main story of what was happening with Chloe and Scott, and what ultimately led to the showdown at the end. Each character was awful, not one of them had anything good about them, and frankly too many people were getting caught up in the sisters rivalry. It took me a little longer to get through this book than usual, purely because I felt the pacing was on the slower side. The last 20% of the book is where it really sped up. Unfortunately, this one missed the mark for me.
A book about twin sisters that don’t get along? Count me in! I am a twin and I often refer to my sister as the “evil twin” because she’s not a good human. So when I heard about Alex Stone’s newest book, The Quiet Sister, I was all in!
This story follows twins Mia and Chloe and their absolute night and day personalities. Mia is outspoken, a bit of a “pick me” girl, that’s constantly making Chloe feel like the lesser twin. Chloe is a soft spoken, often insecure sister that feels like she never lived up to her sister’s legacy.
The pacing on this one was superb. The build up and history of the characters was spot on! I found neither character likable- often wanting to jump into the book and shake them both. Regardless, I didn’t want to put it down. I can see this one going either way with my crowd, maybe falling into general fiction more than thriller. Overall it was a fun read and I look forward to more from this author. Thank you NetGalley and Boldwood books for this ARC!
I'm reviewing this via NetGalley, as part of a tour with Rachel's Random Resources.
This nail-biting thriller tells the story of twin sisters Mia and Chloe, whose relationship is destroyed by jealousy. I found this book very psychological from the beginning; it played with my head, partly because the characters felt real to me.
As I carried on reading, I found that I had more unanswered questions. I began to feel conflicted, wondering whose side I should be on, or indeed if I should take any side at all. I felt the need to try and understand Mia and Chloe, and their relationship.
This book was spine-tingling and very clever. I found myself questioning right and wrong, and I think that sometimes you want a book that will play with your emotions in that sort of way.
Thank you to NetGalley, Rachel's Random Resources, and to the author and publisher, for the opportunity to read and review this.
The premise of this book was interesting and engaging. Twins who struggled to connect and always competing. Neither twin was very likable. One was manipulative and the other was whiny.
The story is told in alternating time lines - then and now with some additional flashbacks much further into the past.
This book should have been exciting but something about it fell flat for me. I think it was too long and so parts felt repeitive. With some editing and removing length the dialogue could have been more interesting. The other characters were very flat and the issues were quite obvious. It didn't feel particularly twisty to me.
I think there were other things that could have been delved into more deeply to have made the story that much more engaging.
Despite the issues with the story it was one that I wanted to keep reading because I did want to see how it turned out.
Overall, I think if you like psychological thrillers you should give this one a try for yourself. It didn't quite connect with me but I can see how it would appeal to many readers.
The Quiet Sister by Alex Stone is a really exciting psychological thriller that kept me hooked with its mystery and suspense. From the start, I was drawn in by the concept and the secrets surrounding the "quiet sister." The twists were definitely a highlight, and they kept me intrigued as I tried to figure out what was going on.
The characters were well-developed, and I loved how Stone kept things unpredictable. That being said, I did feel like the pace slowed down a bit, especially at the beginning. It seemed to drag on a little longer than I expected, which made me feel a little overwhelmed at times as I was waiting for things to pick up.
However, once the twists started rolling in, I was fully invested. Big thanks to Alex Stone for such an engaging story, and to NetGalley for the ARC! If you’re a fan of thrillers with lots of surprises, this one is definitely worth checking out.
I have mixed feelings about this book. The writing style which switched from past to present kept me involved and the plot was interesting but so many things were unbelievable that it just left me shaking my head the whole time. SPOILER…how could you be in a relationship and own a shop and your boyfriend and family had never wanted to see it? And why would you work in a stall in the park? How could you never see your boyfriend who was allegedly a police officer in uniform? If her sister died why didn’t “Mia” tell anyone? She could have said the fire and losing everyone she loved had caused her to reflect on the type of person she was and she had changed because of it. This story was just not credible. I have never read anything else by this author Alex Stone and I am curious to know if all her books are as far fetched as this one.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with a copy of The Quiet Sister by Alex Stone in exchange for an honest review. For a women who’s entire life relied on her impersonating her twin sister, she was horrendous and careless with it. I’m shocked that nobody guessed from one conversation with her. And how does no one know Chloe (really Mia) is dead? Even if Mia (really Chloe) didn’t tell people, a death from a house fire would have been news. This tory just felt unrealistic and therefore disappointing. She was the most unrealistic and naive character; instantly believing anything anyone told her. It was exhausting being in her POV. Despite all of this, it could have been redeemed if there was a good plot twist. But I guessed every single one as they were made obvious in the lead up. It was an easy read but overall not one I would recommend.
This novel is a psychological thriller about twins who on the outside seem to have a good relationship but are secretly holding on to resentment, bitterness and jealousy. Mia and Chloe are completely opposite of each other… Mia is the popular, attractive one who always wants to be center of attention and Chloe is the shy one more quiet and reserved.
Chloe tries to build her life without her sister involved then Mia shows up trying to push her way back in Chloe’s life and wanting all that her sister has. Will Chloe be underestimated?
Such an engrossing and intense read! If you like thrillers with gripping, page turning twists that keep you drawn in then you won’t want to miss reading this book.
Umm, I really, really need to learn how to skim a book. Skimming would have helped me here, as I had terrible difficulty staying engaged with the story. Twins? Switch places? Emotional turmoil? This just didn't work for me, and it was a struggle to finish. Don't respond to my statement of love fast enough? Oh, he must hate me! Say one wrong word? He never liked me. Uggh, the dialogue felt juvenile and overly emotionally immature.
I can see how this might appeal to some folks. It just didn't appeal to me. I'll be generous in my rating.
Would I read the author again? Probably not (sorry :( )
I received a complimentary copy of the novel from the publisher and NetGalley, and my review is being left freely.
