In Havenport, the fog doesn’t just hide secrets- it keeps them.
When investigative journalist Evelyn Cross arrives in the fog-shrouded town of Havenport, she’s looking for a quiet place to disappear. But when a local teenage girl vanishes without a trace, Evelyn is pulled into a chilling mystery that the town refuses to face.
The sheriff insists it’s a runaway. The locals whisper about the Fogkeeper- a legend wrapped in fear and silence. And every time Evelyn gets closer to the truth, the mist creeps in a little thicker... and a little more alive.
As Evelyn digs deeper, she uncovers a pattern of disappearances, all tied to nights when the fog rolls in thickest. Old warnings resurface, strange symbols appear, and the legend of the Fogkeeper becomes harder to dismiss. Something is watching. Something that doesn’t want to be found. And Havenport’s silence may be the most dangerous thing of all.
The only way out is through. And the fog is waiting.
If you love slow-burn suspense, psychological horror, and stories where nothing is quite what it seems… step into the fog.
Hints of The Fog, Dark Shadows, and every spooky film or book set in Maine or near some small fishing village.
I loved it, though. The story was atmospheric, and you could almost feel the fog creeping around you as you read it.
I was surprised it was such a short story and feel this is definitely a prequel (the series is called a chronicle, so no surprises, there are more stories!) that lures you into more fog based mystery.
This ended on a cliffhanger and I wasn’t prepared for that. It felt like a prequel for a longer book to come maybe?
I didn’t hate this but the way Evelyn and Ellie found out about the curse and how to fix it was irritating. You’re telling me all the answers were at the library this whole time and no one bothered to look into it before now?
Kinda feel like I wasted an hour of my life with this one.
The Fogkeeper’s Curse reads like a serial, it comes in at just under 100 pages and leaves you very little answers. Dark Shadows meets Lovecraft with a dash of Scooby Doo whodunit. Unlike a 30 minute episode, you won’t find answers here but a trail leading to the next installment. It’s quick, enjoyable and an easy read. There’s little character development in the first book, which hopefully is expanded as we continue Ellie and Evelyn’s stories. I hope that we find out more as the series moves forward, we know so little about Evelyn, her motivations her connection to Ellie and the town. The series is free on kindle unlimited, if you’re looking for a quick lovecraftesque serial to kill some time, give it a shot.
The author apparently really enjoys women’s names that start with the letter E. (There’s 3 in this short novel).
This book did not really hook me but I wanted to finish it. The authors writing I thought I was understanding well however I kept feeling like I missed a book , or like I missed some information that happened before this book. It gave me the vibes of The 2010 TV show Haven . But I was vibe wise in the mood for John Carpenter's The fog, which is what I thought I might be getting . It was an ok quick book for me . Just did not fit my reading vibe currently as I am currently in a horror not thiller mood but I don't know that would count this as a thriller persay . Don't currently plan to read any others in this series.
For this reader, the events in this story moved too slowly. I would have wanted more character and world building and a more gradual growing of unease and tension. The antagonists are dealt with all too quickly.
Also, the solution was too confusing. Did one destroy the marks or reinforce them? Who was the Fogkeeper and how was he given his role? There were just too many threads left hanging.
However, the prose is good with no noticeable grammatical errors to jerk you out of the story, a rarity in indie books.
This was okay! It is a novella so you don’t get much background or much world building but I feel like If this was a full length novel it would be great! Absolutely loved the premise of the story, and the characters seemed great!
Not sure the length of the other books in the series but I am interested in seeing what happens next cause it does leave an opening for more of the story!
This was a perfect, and eerily good start to my October reading!!
Quick short read. Had the same vibes of watching a old horror movie or reading goosebumps. Not a lot of depth in terms of plot and just straight forward dialogue. It's maybe an hour long read. If you like short monster stories you'll probably enjoy it. I could see it being good novel for 10-14 year olds. Not really my thing but I did enjoy the general atmosphere of the book.
I really enjoyed this creepy indie read. The story concept was right up my alley and I absolutely loved the foggy coastal town setting it felt wonderfully atmospheric. I’m looking forward to diving into the rest of the series. I encourage you to give this book a read and leave a review, it not only supports the author but also helps future writers find their place in the literary world.
I liked that the pace was quick with short chapters that kept my interest, it had a spooky atmosphere that translated well.
But I wish it had been longer and for me the characters of Ellie and Evelyn read too similar and I would have liked more character development from Evelyn.
It's an entertaining and suspenseful read. It does require the reader to have some suspension of disbelief as most stories do. The author has created a compelling story that could go in any direction from here. Can't wait to read the next one.
I thoroughly appreciated this book, finding it eerie and captivating. The atmosphere and writing style are particularly noteworthy. The resolution of one mystery leads to the discovery of another, making for a compelling start to the series.
This reads like an old horror book. It's a lot like The Fog where people disappear into the fog and go mad. This book however is like the child friendly version. It is a super fast read which packs detail and character building. A surface scraper of a novel. Worth a read and an hour of your time.
Very good read! The story line moves quickly and keeps you interested. If you are not one to read long stories this is for you! The author did a great job with the ending to lead into the next book
