This was a little bit disappointing considering that I wanted Cooper's story to be great. I didn't like the heroine very much and this was really, really short. The upside, I guess, is that this novella wasn't the end for Cooper and Izzy, just the beginning. The next book in the series is a full novel about them. I'd be more excited if I liked Izzy or thought they actually had a connection.

"Any chance you'll see Izzy again?"

"I don't know."

"She seems like a good woman."

"Yeah, she does," Cooper said, and he meant it.

^^^This quote boggled my mind because I couldn't get how the author expected us to believe that Cooper really, honestly thought that of Izzy. WARNING: SPOILER AND MILD RANT AHEAD:

I don't know why, but I'm going to continue with the series and hope that the author can give me reason to think her characters have a love connection. So far these stories are good, the plots are page-turners, but the romance is really lacking.

Brooding heroes, gorgeous heroines with edge of life lifestyles...and hockey, although they never get to the ice in this book.
Which is just as well, since it would melt.
I adore the unconventionality of the ladies' careers. I love Cooper and his "I'm going to pout forever" attitude, and I like the fact that he ends up realizing he just looks like an ass.
I am also leaving here to go find the next book in the series.

Not too much of anything .. Like is said in the blurb, she's a pro party crasher and they meet and are instantly attracted. Some build up for next book CRASHING THE NET.

An okay but not spectacular story about the first meeting between a professional party crasher, whose company (consisting of her and her three younger sisters) is paid to enliven parties. The party in question, one for the players, staff, and backers of the Seattle Sockeyes hockey team, is going to need help because the players are standoffish, so the majority owner hires the party crashers. The big misunderstanding is inevitable from the start, and it’s predictably resolved.

The main male character is well-drawn, given the story’s length, but the main female character is noticeably less so.

**I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.**

After losing the final game of the series and not going to the Stanly Cup game, the Sockeyes find out their coach is fired and they have new owners. Owners that are moving them to Seattle. Everyone on the team is against the move, but no one more than captain Cooper Black. Cooper doesn't make it easy for the new owners. He's moody and they guys tend to follow his lead. When the owners throw a black tie party, they know getting any cooperation from Black will be next to impossible. If Black refuses to have a good time his teammates will too.

Izzy is a professional party crasher. She is hired to ensure the party is a success. Can she persuede Cooper to enjoy himself? Can she stick to her "no getting involved with party goers" policy?

There is a serious chemistry between Izzy and Cooper. I love that Izzy's outlandish ways balance out Cooper's attitude. You don't have to be a sports fan to enjoy this series.

This was a good prequel! Cooper and Izzy meet when she is crashes the team party he is at. Izzy's company has been paid to crash the party and try to get the hockey players to loosen up and enjoy Seattle. Cooper, the team Captain, is mad at everyone and Izzy tries to get him to loosen up. When they touch they feel the electricity. Izzy can't fight her attraction to Cooper and when he hears something that is said to Izzy he says some mean things. The two go their separate ways until Cooper realizes that he had the wrong impression of Izzy and tries to find her.

Chip on his shoulder hockey player Cooper Black and professional party crasher Izzy Maxwell are the lead characters in "Crashing the Boards." Their meeting was a highlight in this novella. Cooper & Izzy adventures aren't finished but continue in the next book.

Now this was good, I admit. 😊
Gave me a lot to expect from book 2 of Seattle Sockeyes Hockey series. ☺️🤌
Cooper and Izzy had all the feels, they started with some intense hotness but they seem to want more than a hookup. 🥵🤤
Nice writing Mr. Davenport, this novella was a page turner. 🎉

The Verdict: I'm pretty sure you all know by now how I feel about novellas. But since I've read the first book and am due to read the next one soon, I figured I should grab this little in-between and make sure I didn't miss anything important. Oh, and to clear up the rather confusing numbering, I should mention that though Crashing the Boards is labeled book 2 in the series, it's really more of a 1.5 by typical numbering standards. Anyhow… Cooper was one of the more intriguing secondary characters in Skating on Thin Ice, and this is the beginning of his story.

Izzy and her sisters have been fending for themselves for far too long. Armed with little more than looks and ingenuity, they've turned their urban survival skills into a business that banks on others' needs to turn otherwise dull parties into full-on celebrations. And if she's going to succeed at this party, she's got to get Cooper, the guy from whom all the other are taking their cues, to loosen up and have some fun.

The last thing Cooper wants to do is enjoy this evening. Stuck with his teammates on a local cruise hosted by the man who uprooted their team and overturned their management, he doesn't plan on smiling, much less dancing. But the woman who's obviously crashing the party won't give up, and while he can't get into the celebratory spirit, he's certainly not opposed to getting her out of that dress.

I really liked Izzy, and while I certainly can't relate to someone so sociable, her background got my attention. She's not so much a party girl as she is a survivor, having learned at a young age that crashing parties was an easy way to get a much needed dinner.

There's really not much to this story, but what's there kept me turning the pages. However, when it was all said and done, I was immediately disappointed, thinking I just got screwed out of a full story about one of the most interesting Seattle Sockeye players. Fortunately, Crashing the Boards serves more as the back-story and preview to Crashing the Net, and Cooper's full story (which will no doubt include plenty of Izzy) is yet to come. So while I'm still not a fan of the novella thing, I'm not completely upset about the buck I had to pay to get this piece of the series.

Reading through the Playing for Passion anthology it has given me a few new authors and book series to try out. One of the stories I enjoyed was Crashing the Boards. Crashing the Boards introduces us to Cooper and his team. They have just been sold to a new manager and changes are on their way as the team hasn't been performing as well as they should on the ice. The owner has decided to host a party to show good faith , and that's where we meet Izzy - her and her sisters are party crashers and have been doing this since they were in their early teens to survive and be fed. Over the years, they have become experts at it and now own their own Party Crashing business and have been hired to get the party started. If only she could get Cooper to see how good an opportunity this is for her team mates. Over the night , Izzy pretends to be Cooper's girlfriend but what will happen when what turns out to be harmless fun could lead to something more ? Will Izzy break one of their cardinal rules and hook up with Cooper or will she remember that the business always comes first ?
Find out in Crashing the Boards by Jami Davenport. This was a good book, but finished a tad early in my opinion as I could have seen it expanding into a number of different situations and building of the main characters. For readers, this is the only thing standing in the way of this book becoming a HR instead of the 5Ps it is recieving.

Crashing the Boards is a sweet and sexy novella which introduces fans of the Seattle Sockeyes to the team captain Cooper Black. We get a quick glimpse into the locker room as the players learn the news about the team’s sale and impending move to Seattle. If you’ve already read Skating on Thin Ice, as I have, you are familiar with a few of the characters and this will feel like a quick trip to the past because the scenes in this novella occurred at the same time. But rather than a rehashing of the same events, Crashing the Boards shows readers the night that Cooper and Izzy met. Because the bulk of the story occurs during the party, the connection is quick and the attraction electric. This is not an insta-love situation but rather a boy-meets-girl, boy-feels-tricked-by-girl, and boy-decides-he-wants-to-date girl story. Quite simply, it is the tale of their first meeting with a steamy encounter designed to whet your appetite. I read this in preparation for Crashing the Net and now I cannot wait to see where Izzy and Cooper’s relationship goes. Thank goodness my Kindle is all queued up for the rest of their story.

Oh how I loved this short, but very fun story! This story brings us Cooper Black, who is the captain of the newly renamed and relocated Seattle Sockeyes hockey team. Neither Cooper nor any of his teammates are very happy about being uprooted from Florida and moved to the Northwestern most part of the United States and they’ve let everyone know it.

In an attempt to loosen up his team and show some goodwill to them, the owner has a party for the team. Enter Izzy Maxwell and her sisters, who are professional party crashers. Yep, you read that right. Izzy and her sisters have been honing their craft for years and now own their own business. The owner has hired Izzy and her sisters to get the party started and one of the first objectives is for Izzy to get Cooper on board with the party.

The chemistry between Izzy and Cooper is off the charts! Will the unconventional way they met derail the relationship before it gets started?

Jami Davenport does a great job setting up these characters in this short story. I’m really looking forward to seeing where Izzy and Cooper end up when Crashing the Net comes out!

I nice lil teaser novella that introduces us to Izzy. We have already met Cooper in book 1 of the series.

Cooper is angry that he was forced to move to Seattle, where it rains all the time, they sun hardly ever shines, and his kids at the children's hospital are miles away. He's bound and determined that this move will be a miserable one and he is going to make sure the new owners of his team are miserable too. What he doesn't expect is that opinion to change with one look from Izzy.

Izzy is a party crasher....not just any party crasher either....she's paid to do it by the host of the party. Her goal, to break Cooper out of his shell and get the party hopping. What she didn't expect for her pulse to be doing the hopping.

This is book 2 of the series but can be read as a stand alone. This does not have a HEA ending but a HFN. More of a introduction to get us ready for book 3 staring Cooper and Izzy.

Written as a multi pov.

I received a free copy of this book for an honest review.

This is a short story about Cooper Black and Izzy Maxwell. Cooper is the captain of the Seattle Sockeyes hockey team and he is not happy about the team moving from Florida. He is making sure no one else on the team is happy either. The teams new owner decides to have a party to do a little team bonding. He also hires Izzy and her sisters, who are professional party crashers, to make sure everyone has a good time. Izzy is in charge of making sure Cooper has a good time. She didn't expect to be attracted to him and she is not happy about it.

I really enjoyed this novella and I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series so I can find out what happens with Izzy and Cooper.

I liked it... I just didn't totally love it.

I didn't read the first book. I was fortunate enough to get a copy of Crashing the Boards when I received a ARC copy of A sport of Romance. I thought that Cooper and Izzy had a really cute relationship, though I thought the book was short and wished there was more.

The reason I only gave it three stars was because I thought that the way Izzy handled Cooper was a little forward. I think she still could have gotten him in her clutches had she just continued to wear down his shell.

I do think I want to read more of these books though, the characters are strong and have great potential!
