Words escape me.
The book, third in the series, is a enthralling, a masterful.piece of work building on the previous two books. the author introduces you to the third bastard brother, Tobi. he us a bit of a dreamer, a fool, and like his other bastsrd brothers full of demons from his past. captured by Harok, he is made the kushir of Harok.
there is depth to Tobi and he is determined to understand this strange place he has been captured to and the sexy beast who has captured his fantasies.
the book has so many twists and turns, no different to the others, you had better be prepared to have your perceptions and interpretations of the plot dashed. we get to see who the real enemy is, the demon, but I must say, knowing Jem Blackwing I would not be too sure of that.
There are two flaws in this book for me.
1) The first, I struggled a bit with the passivness of Tobi until the end. but still a bit more fight I was expecting.
2) how long must we wait for book four. but perhaps the wait is good. not sure my nerves could take more of the twist and turns.

And the plot thickens...
We get the story of Tobi Darekul and Harok the king of the Amblok peeps and how Tobi is yanked out of his free-spirited-ish life and becomes Harok's consort/possesion/lover/sub all wrapped up in one.
So this is a continuation of the previous two books. I feel like this book is the tipping point—I mean, apart from Harok and Tobi's love story I found myself holding my breath as things started moving forward/making a lot more sense.
And with Harok and Tobi, I found myself enjoying learning a new language.
Harok and Tobi's relationship isn't easy. Apart from the whole language barrier thing, these two come from completely different ways of life and although they are quite compatible in bed they had to find a way to build a relationship/find common ground in an unconventional way which was lovely to see. I just wish we had a bit more Harok POVs but other than that, this was an amazing read.

I would like to thank Jem Blackwing for the opportunity to read and review this ARC.
Oh my yes! The world Blackwing has built here continues to be a rich and vibrant one. And just like Books 1&2 i found myself luxuriating in the lush and provocative narrative style and tone. I was properly captivated by the plight of the MCs, and hooked on the deep love feelings every couple had going on!
Tobi, the Beast Master, and his lykat, Baby, were the Dad-furbaby duo i didn't know i needed in my life. And Harok had a depth to his characterization that left me breathless when the high-tension stakes were at max peak! Tobi and Harok together were supremely hot and had great chemistry no matter where they were in their love journey. And now that i've finished The Laws of Nature, the raw unpredictability of Harok's wild fervour makes even more sense! Tobi had the R I D E of his life, in every sense of the word, but by the end of the book they made a gorgeous, solid couple that i can't wait to meet again!
I ALSO LOVED THAT THERE WAS A WHOLE NEW LANGUAGE FOR THE MCS TO LEARN!!

There was so much plotty goodness happening here, and I loved that the narrative engaged a few POVs from the earlier installments to expand the scope! The Laws of Nature was yet another luscious and sexy, wholly immersive installment in the Heirs of the Empire series, and there's still sooooo much more action and spicy loving to look forward to!!
Kerik's up next in The Power of Magic, and because i'm already a fiend from just the dashes of Blackwing's fae energy sprinkled throughout Books 1-3, Book 4's worldbuilding will for sure take me tf O U T. Absolutely c a n n o t wait to devour all the ferocious madness still to come! I'm crying already! So yes, this MM Fantasy series is an all caps YES from me!

I received an ARC of this 3rd Installment and I am giving my honest opinion.
The plot thickens! 4.5 Stars!
We meet the 3rd brother Tobi in this book and finally get a glimpse into the elusive Amber Forest. Once again Jem Blackwing's writing is very atmospheric which draws you into the story. I really enjoyed the way Jem brought us along with Tobi as he navigates the language barrier he had with the Solwen, thought at times it got confusing. But there is a helpful Glossary at the end for the selected Ambolk words which you can refer to.
We finally get more info about the main villain of this world/story and boy I cannot wait to see how the fight pans out across the last 2 books. We also get more information about the backstory of Crown Prince Rafus and his bastard sons, which i thought was weaved in beautifully with the plot. And like I said THE PLOT THICKENS!
The romance aspect of the book did not really convince me, though I understand why Harok acted the way he did towards the end of the book (READ TO FIND OUT!). The pacing of the book was also slightly off for me as I found it abit draggy in the middle but the last 20% more than makes up for it.
AND THE ENDING?? Give me the fourth book now! Overall I highly recommend this series if you want unique worldbuilding, political intrigue and swoon worthy Romance.

This is a wonderful series and each book has drawn me in more to see how all the parts come together, and the characters' development. The Azurian Empire is an amazingly rich and fascinating world, and the characters are so well laid-out! "The Laws of Nature" is my favorite book so far.
The beautiful Amber Forest with its own rules and magic has me in its clutches; I could not get enough of it and am kind of sad that we have left it for now.
Toby ist such a sweet and trusting but also very talented man, he was a joy to watch. I had my suspicions about Harok from the beginning, intensified when Baby growled at him, and I was not wrong. It was lovely to see him turn soft for his suskara. The smut scenes were 1A, the best out of all three books for now; the power imbalance (which Tobi is very into) kind of made it more enjoyable for me.
Despite the HFN we get a banger of a cliffhanger near the end, and I cannot wait for more but am also scared of what might happen to my other darling characters.
My hopes of Atticul maybe coming around and joining forces with his brothers were unfortunately dashed, but the chances were slim from the start.
I am sure to continue with the series even though I may need to let this one settle for a bit. Also, what am I going to do after the end of Book 4, having to wait for months for the conclusion?

Review for (Heirs of the Empire-2) The Price of Freedom by Jem Blackwing
Lukas's life has been a rough one. His life is hard, but to have his hand taken by the enforcers because of one little thing, so he took something that wasn't his. Is that a reason to take his hand? His life was much easier years ago when he was a pampered illegitimate son of the prince of Azuria. But those days are over when he ran and became an outlaw. Lukas knew he had to fight and awaken eyes to the empire. But that all changed when he and other outlaws decided to raid his old palace, and the outlaws felt that he wasn't to be trusted anymore. So now he has to find a way back into his old life by any means. What will Lukas have to do to do that? Well, the cost is to take a captive to ransom a man to get a good amount of money to start his life again. Will he succeed with this man he took, who is so cocky and full of himself? But in the end, he needs to because this man is worth a lot of money. Will the two of them survive not only each other but also stay safe from others?
This was the first book I have read by Jem Blackwing, but I can say it won't be my last. The world in this story was fantastic.

This is book 3 in the Heirs of the Empire series and I liked it just as much as the previous ones. Tobi is the bastard son we are following this time. He spent only a year living in the rose palace with his brothers and father, and the rest of the time learning his trade as a traveling performer. Tobi is known as the Beast Tamer for his act with his lycat Baby. He gets along well enough and occasionally thinks of his brothers. Harok is the Ambolk king of the amber forest holding a dark secret. When Tobi is basically kidnapped by Harok to be his Kushir, Tobi is sure his father will send the army to come rescue him. But soon Tobi realizes that Harok just might be the perfect fit for him and maybe he doesn't want or need to be rescued. There are language and culture differences that have to be navigated, and that is done quite well. This might be the gentlest of the books so far (but not really gentle, just in comparison) and that's a nice breather for the series. The world building is quite good and I'm all in to see how the overarching story ends up. I would totally recommend, but you do need to read the previous books to know what's going on.

The Laws of Nature is Book 3 in the outstanding Heirs of the Empire series, which follows the bastard sons of the Crown Prince Rafus, heir of the Imperial throne of Azuria. This book is about bastard son Tobi Darkful, who is captured by Irgo Harok, the king of the Amber Forrest, and made his kushir. Harok speaks Ambolk, and Tobi does not. Despite the huge language barrier between them, there is an intense attraction between them, and deep feelings develop.
I cannot say enough good things about this series. Jem Blackwing is an expert storyteller. The author deftly weaves another epic story The story plot is multi-layered and complicated, just like the characters. There are a lot of supporting characters to keep up with, but they add to the story. The author has done a fabulous job with world building, including adding a map of the Azurian Empire, a glossary of terms used, and an explanation of the Darek family. There are lots of twists to keep readers engaged until the end. The story was a spicy, emotional, engaging drama that is a fast-paced page-turner. I look forward to reading more books in the series.

I love this series!
I highly recommend that you read this series from the beginning because the plot thickens with each story as we learn about the 5 illegitimate sons of the Crown Prince of the Empire.
Tobi is the beast tamer in a traveling circus and the 3rd illegitimate son of Crown Prince Rafus.
Irgo Harok "the demon slayer" of the Amber Forest takes him as payment for the circus being on their land. An adventure of secrets, lies, love and betrayal unfolds.
* I will be honest that the pacing was a bit off for me and I didn't get hooked into this one quite like I did with the first 2 but it still had me wanting to continue finding out more and turning the pages to see what happens next. I did love how we got to hear from the other family members and their partners as well as hearing from Rafus. We are left with a cliffhanger which makes me want the next story right now :) I think before the 5th story I will have to go back and read the entire series again just to make sure I didn't miss any details!

The Laws of Nature (Heirs of the Empire Book Three: Tobi), by Jem Blackwing, is a great follow-up to the first two books. Each book follows one of the bastard sons of the former Crown Prince of the Empire. This time, Tobi, a circus performer and Lycat tamer, is taken by Irgo Harok, King of the Amber Forest to be his ‘consort’. Lots of twists and turns, betrayals, and intricate weaving of the plot lines from the story thus far. Each of the books flows along the continuum of the broad tale, but each one is also a world to itself. Tobi grows up and matures into a man with value; Harok discovers what he thought he knew, for the last twenty years, was a lie. Looking forward to the next volume.

I have loved every single book from this series. This one is about little Tobi, another bastard son of the former Crown Prince of the Empire and a circus performer.
Tobi is taken by the Irgo Harok, King of the Amber Forest and basically forced to be his consort. So much is at stake for Tobi, yet he can’t deny his attraction for Irgo.
The language barrier is as hilarious as it is sexy. It’s amazing that Jem made up yet another language for this book. It was hard sometimes trying to keep up with the languages but my interest never waned.
Tobi and Igor were really amazing together. Loved seeing the gang from the previous books. This whole series just keeps getting better and better!

I absolutely loved this book — it was amazing! Tobi’s unwavering dedication to his lover Harok, despite everything stacked against them, was both moving and inspiring. The story is packed with exciting twists and finally reveals so much of the mystery that has been building throughout the series.
I also enjoyed the chapters with Damon, Luckas, and their partners, which added even more depth and connection to the world. This is definitely a series where the books should be read in order to get the full impact of the story and relationships.
Jem Blackwing has once again delivered an emotional, thrilling, and satisfying read. Highly recommended!

This is the 3rd book in the series, and whatever I said about the other two, kindly disregard this is currently my favourite one. I didn't find it difficult keeping up with this story of Toby Darekul and Harok. I appreciate how their relationship evolved and the efforts made to manage the language barrier. I found myself learning the language as well, which was interesting. Lymok was quite obvious to me as a traitor, though, as for the overall storyline it's all starting to make more sense, now and the 4th book needs to be available soon. I'm impatient.

Great addition to the series!
I loved The Laws of Nature by Jem Blackwing. It's the third book in the Heirs of the Empire series. I loved Tobi and Harok's story. I loved that Tobi was a beast tamer and Harok was Tobi's beast. I also loved how Tobi learned a new language, starting with bedroom words first. I also loved Baby and getting to see more of Damon, Lyr, Elric and Lukas as they continue to try and get Lyr's markings translated. I can't wait to read the next book.

Absolutely loving this series! What a unique and captivating world created by Jem. Do read the previous books as you will benefit from it and get a better understanding of the plot! Yet again brilliant characters and a well paced relationship build that had me hooked until the end! Cannot wait for the next one, really need to see what's next!

I need more
I picked this up because it looked intriguing and quickly realized my mistake.
I was starting way behind and I need to catch up.
The world building is amazing, there's political machinations, twists and turns and betryals.
Tobi and Harok are up against it and they just don't give up.

This was another enjoyable volume with yet more characters to bring into the story. I like seeing how all of the stories are beginning to weave together and learning more about the ultimate reason behind all of these bastards. Seeing Tobi and Baby with the circus was a fun and different beginning. Harok was powerful and was integral to all of the events yet to come. Excited to see where this story continues.

I DNF this, the characters are so robotic, there isn't any depth or feeling to them. Felt like I was wasting my time reading this

This series has absolutely blown me away. While I'm not typically a fantasy reader, the way Jem Blackwing writes kept the story engaging, interesting and spicy. I cannot wait until book 4!

The Laws of Nature is the third book of the series Heirs of the Empire.
This time it is the turn of the third brother, Tobi. He lives as an itinerant actor and animal tamer with a troupe touring villages. On one of the stops, they come across the village of Amber Forest. The leader claims Tobi as a kushir (lover) as payment for the company's passage through his territory, apparently, because, like everything in this saga, he has ulterior motives.
Besides, the PLOT continues, because it is so, with capital letters. Apart from the romance between Irgo Harok and Tobi, the political machinations, there is a PLOT. And what a Plot. The worldbuilding is accentuated because here we learn another language. It is not heavy at all, because it is quite “dynamic” the way Tobi learns to speak the language of Irgo Harok, cof, cof, in bed, cof, cof, cof....
This saga can be compared to the great sagas of epic fantasy, but MM.
The only bad thing is that it ends in cliffhanger and you have to wait for the fourth book to know. And I want to know now!

Loving this captor/captive dynamic and we're expanding the world building in this third book beyond the empire. We learn about the Amber Forest and how it ties into the rest of the plot and world we've been introduced so far in the first two books.
I have been looking forward to Tobi's book, and I'm enjoying all the different stories from all the brothers. Can't wait for the next one!
