Ezra’s holiday season has always been a delicate juggling strained family dinners, dodging the pointed glances at his name on ornaments that no longer fit, and trying to carve out a space for himself as a trans man in a world that doesn’t always make it easy. When a Krampusnacht party at a college dive bar offers him a chance to breathe, he hopes for nothing more than to blend into the crowd.
Then he meets Lukas.
The bartender isn’t just devastatingly gorgeous, with a dangerous smirk and the kind of voice that melts inhibitions—he’s something otherworldly, something Ezra can’t quite pin down. Lukas’s dark charm is matched only by his intensity, and when he steps in to shut down Ezra’s relentless tormentor, sparks fly hotter than the cocktails Lukas pours.
But Lukas isn’t just here to protect Ezra—he’s here to punish. As the legendary Krampus, he’s spent centuries delivering justice to those who deserve it, and this year, the shadows are swirling with reckoning. Ezra’s small-town bullies don’t stand a chance when Lukas gets involved.
As the snow falls and the nights deepen, the connection between them ignites into something neither of them expected. For Ezra, Lukas is everything he’s been a fierce protector, a lover who sees him completely, and a reminder that he’s stronger than he ever believed. For Lukas, Ezra is a light he didn’t know he needed—a reason to soften the edge of his claws and wonder if maybe, just maybe, redemption is possible.

I’ve seen many things in my MM journey but was shocking at first — then oddly realistic despite being horrific and deserved.
that aside
The MCs got together a little quickly but that’s the beauty of these shorts, right? I liked Ezra and Lukas together (including the very spice scene we got🥵) and I especially liked that the author wasn’t so quick to force a typical HEA. However, I would’ve liked to see more grit from Lukas’ — aside from mid-way through the story. He’s described as needing “a reason to soften the edge of his claws and wonder if maybe, just maybe, redemption is possible” which wasn’t all the way there.

💕 I first read this when it was going to be a part of the Naughty and Nice Anthology. And I thought it was a good time for a re-read now that it’s available as a standalone. Frankly, it’s better than I remembered. Lukas is a Krampus, so expect torture and punishment. Expect brutality and pain. Whether you believe in such vigilante justice for someone who has spent his life on the “naughty list” is not up for debate. It’s a fictional story. Ezra comes off as young and naive at first, but the more we learn about him, the more we see his bravery in choosing to be his authentic self. But doing so has just made him a target. And Krampus, the ever protector, knows just how to handle this tormentor. The imagery of not only his physical “transformation”, but also the description of the swirling snow truly sets the scene. As for what Lukas and Ezra offer each other? Beautiful.
