She needs a fill-in boyfriend. He needs a favor. It’s the perfect, no-strings arrangement until they both realize it’s too real…

Sophie-Claire Wright’s life is like a bad country song on repeat. She keeps running into her cheating ex, her songwriting career isn't taking off, and her roommate just kicked her out of their apartment. With nothing to lose, she decides to do the one thing she said she’d never do: she moves back home. She left her small Southern town with big dreams, but now she’s going home with empty pockets.

Life moves at a slower pace in Sophie’s blink-and-you’ll-miss-it hometown, but her well-meaning, matchmaking mama doesn't have a slow gear. Sophie invents a boyfriend to hold off her mother’s efforts, but she’s out of luck when her mom wants to meet him. Sophie panics until she runs into Jake Cooper. Her high school crush (and former best friend) is back in town, too, and when he asks her for a favor, she agrees...on one condition. He says he’ll be her fill-in boyfriend, so it should be simple: re-introduce him to her family and then “break up” with him after a few weeks.

Sophie is sure she’ll be able to resist Jake this time. Sure, she was in love with him years ago, but that was then. This is now, no matter how great he looks, or how she feels around him. But she didn't bargain for moments that feel all too genuine. Dates that don’t seem fake. Kisses that leave her shaken and wanting more. Sweet moments where she forgets they aren't really dating. And she didn't count on old feelings resurfacing and complicating their arrangement—which is starting to feel less like acting and more like the real deal.

Soon, Sophie can’t tell which kisses are real or fake, but she knows she’s in deep...and she thinks Jake is, too. When she gets a chance to go back to Nashville and chase her dreams again, she has a choice to make: stay or go? Continue hoping that the life she wants is one song away, or finally write her own song?

Check out my ONE SONG AWAY Pinterest board, and meet the characters! And follow the blog tour from December 15-19!

ONE SONG AWAY is my sophomore New Adult release. It's a standalone, one I had a lot of fun writing. It's about a down on her luck songwriter who has to move home, and thanks to a little fib to her mama, finds herself needing a boyfriend. When she asks her childhood crush to fill the role, sparks fly and the fun starts.

I set out to write a fun book with ONE SONG AWAY and readers, I hope you'll think I succeeded. I wanted to celebrate friendship and love. I wanted to write positive messages about ALL kinds of love, even the kind that comes softly.

Sophie-Claire is such a sassy girl, and Jake, her somewhat beta-male love interest, is just swoonworthy, if I do say so myself. I hope you'll enjoy ONE SONG AWAY! Feel free to ask me any questions (no spoilers please) about ONE SONG AWAY. Oh and if you've read it, you'd make my day if you leave a review at your site of choice. <3

4 Sweet Stars!

Sophie Claire Wright is in a rut; boyfriendless, a nonexistent job, and her roommate kicking her out, there's no where left to go but home. Home to her overly excited albeit dramatic mother and the rest of her family. Not wanting to tell her mother that she doesn't have a boyfriend she lies and says she does. There's only so much pity one girl can take. So now she's in an even bigger dilemma. She's living at home, with no job, and lying about having a boyfriend.

Thankfully she runs into her old flame and best friend forever Jake Cooper. Who just so happens to own the Coffee Shop she's in. If she helps him by accepting the job he's offering he'll help her out with her whole no boyfriend dilemma and pretend to be hers. Simple right? Wrong, very very wrong. Claire has always loved Coop, always missing the opportunity in High School to tell him, to afraid by what he'd say, or not say back.

But when their pretend relationship turns all to real Claire clams up, she's not sure if its just an act to Coop or not. And when she finds the answer is it really all she hoped it would be?

----

I really enjoyed this book! Claire and Coops banter was adorable and very real. Jake Cooper ( I just love his name) was the epitomy of amazingness. He was so sweet and caring, and I just loved him.

Sophie Claire hmm I wanted to shake her a good majority of the book and just knock some sense into her. She finally gets the answer she wants and what does she do? Leaves and ignores him like um what? Not to mention Jake never gave her any reason to doubt his feelings towards her. Some of her inner monologues were also very repetitive and lengthy. I love dialogue is stories between characters so I tend to get a bit bored when I'm trapped in their heads for to long.

Overall it was a great fun light read I definitely recommend.

Sophie Claire and Jake were childhood best friends. Sophie Claire was in love with Jake but never told him and she never made a move. After high school, they went their separate ways. SC went to Nashville to try to make it as a singer/song writer and Jake traveled. 4 years later, Sophie Claire moves back to her hometown after things don't work out in Nashville. When she is looking for a job, she runs into a coffee shop and it turns out the owner is Jake and they have the opportunity to reconnect. I really enjoyed this sweet story. It's very low angst and low on the drama but the build up and chemistry was fantastic and kept me interested. I really liked both the main characters as well as the supporting characters. My only complaint, and it's more of a pet-peeve, is that Sophie Claire kept referring to Nashville as Nash. I was kind of annoyed by that but it's something so small and my own personal preference, or maybe it was the frequency of how often she mentioned Nashville. Overall, I really enjoyed this story and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a low-angst, sweet romance!!

"I try not to think about Jake, but I wonder if our meeting impacted him even half as much as it did me. My handwriting isn’t as neat as it normally is, because my hands are still shaky. I feel like he might as well have ambushed me with a wrecking ball." (Chapter 4 ;; One Song Away)

Beautifully written, stunningly poignant and enchanting, One Song Away will leave you breathless and aching for more in this lovely written southern romance full of swoon-worthy moments. Author Molli Moran, has written a wonderfully mature and inspiring New Adult contemporary romance novel, that is full of healthy friendships, loyalty, and sizzling romance that will pull at your heart strings. It's such a fantastic grown-up story full of self-discovery, friendships, family, and love at the heart of everything. If these are the types of novels that you enjoy, then you'll definitely want to pick this one up and give it a read.

Sophie-Claire is a wonderfully feisty and fiercely independent heroine who is extremely likable and easy to connect with on an emotional level that makes her a well rounded character. Throughout the novel, you'll see her change and grow, as well as come to terms with who she is and where she belongs. She's fiercely supportive of her friends and family and will do anything to protect them at all costs. She keeps those she cares about close to her heart, which I find incredibly endearing. I loved getting to know her and becoming comfortable with such an inspirational character, that is incredibly strong and as positive as she is. We need more heroines like this in New Adult literature, that possess more of a positive outlook on life, healthy relationships, and friendship loyalty that you'll find in this beautifully written book. One of my favorite aspects of getting to watch Sophie-Claire grow, was when she was finally learning to become more comfortable with who she is and where belongs.

Then in walks Jake, I'm talking full all on handsome, swoon-worthy, moment as he crashes back into Sophie-Claire's life like a wrecking ball. This man is both a lot alluring and a little bit dangerous to Sophie Claire's heart and I got so much pleasure in reading how he manage to shake her world upside down and then calm her all in one go around. There's this sense of history and a possible future for these two brewing on the horizon and he sort of has this way of balancing her out and the way he supports her and her dreams is just absolutely amazing. He's strong and yet, he's such a gentle man at the same time. He doesn't take shit off anyone, but he also doesn't go out looking for trouble unless he has a good reason.

And then there's Gideon, who I didn't really particularly care for in the beginning of the novel, but by the end of it I actually liked him and I was happy that he and Sophie-Claire were able to stay friends. I love it when author's include a character that isn't completely beyond the realm of redeeming. I really enjoyed that by the end of this book, Gideon was becoming the man that he should have been when he and Sophie-Claire was together - a good man.

The tug of war that's going on between Sophie-Claire's heart and head, when it comes to Jake is definitely one of the most interesting elements of the story for me. I enjoyed all of the flashbacks and how well they meshed with the present and that Sophie-Claire totally went in "balls to the wall" and she's pretty much all in, no matter the outcome. Brenna assuring her that Jake looks like a man in love, is definitely one of the highlights of Chapter 16 for me, because of the way that Sophie-Claire was able to just give herself over to him that way was pretty amazing and quite hot!

Sloane made me smile so much, I think my cheeks may have hurt a little bit, but that's ok. It's more than ok. I really love the friendship and the level of trust between her and Sophie. Everyone needs the kind of friend who will listen to you no matter what, but also knows when you need to just do things on your own in order to figure out who you will become. I was so impressed with the fact that there was an LGBTQ character included that was so well fleshed out and who wasn't afraid to be out living her life as loudly and proudly as Sloane did. I found myself wishing for her to find the love that she wanted and I hope that maybe, late down the line, the author might continue her story.

Sloane, Mina, and Brenna are pretty much amazing side characters, that goes without saying. I love how they all sort of rally around one another and support each other in anything. Even though Mina and Brenna haven't known Sophie or Sloane all that long, it's almost like they're the best friends ever - like they've known one another all of their lives and have just reconnected like old friends. I personally love Sophie-Claire's little sister, she's a wonderfully written and well developed character, that is also inspiring and adds her own unique depth and style to the story at hand. It's wonderful to read a book where there are positive characters, amazingly platonic friendships, and healthy relationships developed as well as broken characters who aren't past being redeemable in some ways.

The storyline in One Song Away flows beautifully and possesses its own unique style and flair. It's almost like you're watching a movie come to life on the big screen. I happen to love the descriptions and imagery, that has this natural and uncanny way of bringing the characters and their surroundings to life in a vibrant and wonderful way that makes them incredibly enjoyable. They almost dance on the pages as you continue to read and follow them and the journey they take.

From the moment I started reading One Song Away, I absolutely didn't want to put it down for fear that I would miss out something else amazing. I wanted to keep reading right on through it, it is written in such a way that you can't help but get swept up in the past romance, the place Sophie finds herself in, and the guy that possibly holds the key to unlocking her future.

Sophie-Claire’s life isn’t going as she thought it would. After high school she moved to Nashville where she wanted to pursue her dreams of being a singer/songwriter. That’s not happened the way she thought it would and she’s not happy about it. Then her boyfriend cheats on her and her roommate tells her she needs to move out – things weren’t looking up. She has no money to get another apartment so she ends up moving back to her hometown. She knows she can’t live with her parents for the long haul so starts immediately looking for a job.

Sophie runs into Jake who was one of her best friends in high school and also her first love. He offers her a job at the coffee shop he owns and she’s thrilled. She never actually told Jake how she felt about him but believes now that she’s an adult she can work for him and continue to be friends with him. Unfortunately she told her matchmaking mama that she had a boyfriend (when she didn’t) so she asks Jake to be the fake boyfriend. Jake agrees but soon Sophie finds herself falling in love with Jake all over again – only this time it’s an adult love that she may not be able to survive if he doesn’t feel the same.

Sophie was an interesting character. At times she seemed to really like herself and have herself totally together (well, except for that whole job/living situation) but at other times she completely confounded me because she seemed to have such low self-esteem. I can’t say that the two sides coalesced all the time in my mind. I can’t say that I agreed with all of her actions throughout the book. When she finally confessed to Jake and he became more than shocked at her confession she wouldn’t let him get a word in edgewise and allow him tell her how he was feeling. She assumed she knew and that irritated me as it ended up being a one-sided conversation almost entirely.

Now the story was told from Sophie’s POV so I didn’t get too much insight into Jake except what we learned from Sophie. I saw a guy that was incredibly likable and all signs pointed to him falling in love with Sophie. She couldn’t see that, however, and when she did hear him stating that he was actually with her, and she realized that their relationship wasn’t fake any longer, she pushed him away and couldn’t deal with it. I just didn’t get that. Why would she do that when she was finally getting everything she’d wanted? I was confused. Then, after the love confession Jake, imho, should have run to her, groveled and spoke his mind but he let her be alone until she was ready to talk to him. Not my idea of going after what you really want.

Despite some of the issues I had with the last part of the story the first ¾ of the story was quite good. I enjoyed seeing the relationship between Jake and Sophie grow and flourish. It was a story with pretty high emotion and not necessarily a light read but I thought it worked in the story’s favor. I really enjoy friends to lovers stories and while this one had a few hiccups for me it was a good one overall.

One Song Away was such a refreshing change of pace for me. This book follows the story of Sophie-Claire, a struggling song writer. When life throws too many things her way, she ends up doing something she never thought she would: move back home. She soon realizes that even though her life isn't going as planned, this time around, she's got to try to make it on her own. The last thing she was looking for was a relationship. Sophie-Claire runs into Jake and her whole world is turned upside down. Jake and Sophie-Claire have always been friends, but Sophie-Claire has had deeper feelings. She has been in love with Jake her entire life. When an opportunity presents itself, Sophie-Claire will find herself in a fake relationship with Jake. But, the more time they spend together, the more it starts to feel real. Sophie-Claire will soon find that she doesn't know what's real or fake anymore. Will Sophie-Claire finally get what's she's always wanted with Jake or will this be another missed opportunity?

One Song Away is one of those books that reminds me why I love the NA genre. This book was so fun and light-hearted. I really enjoyed the whole idea of old friends pretend to be in a relationship, but suddenly realize they are no longer pretending. I loved the writing style. I found myself laughing so many times. Sophie-Claire was so awkward at times, but easy to relate to. And Jake he was so sweet, and totally swoon worthy. I loved the way they interacted with one another and was cheering them on the whole time, hoping they would turn this fake relationship into something real.

One Song Away was a quick, but enjoyable read. I got lost in the story-line and couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next. This book had the perfect amount of angst and romance. And I truly enjoyed the friends to lovers story-line. This is my first book by this author and I'm looking forward to reading more from her in the future.

Sophie-Claire Wright is a wannabe songwriter based in Nashville, and she also happens to be broke and have her roommate kick her out of their apartment. Defeated, she decides to return to her parents’ house until she can work out a plan.

But back home, her mother is dying to play matchmaker because Sophie-Claire is still without boyfriend. So Sophie-Claire needs a fake boyfriend so stop her mothers attempts and the only person she trusts to help her out is Jake Cooper, an old childhood friend, and someone she has always had a huge crush on…

I’ve always liked plots where fake couples eventually fall in love, or even when childhood friends suddenly become more than just friends, so obviously this story was quite intriguing. I was just a bit disappointed about the fact that everything was way too transparent. This book was written from Sophie-Claire’s POV, but it was clear from the beginning that Jake has a thing for her, which left nothing much to imagination in terms of the plot.

The story was standard romance, without any significant intrigue or plot-twist that could spice the book up a bit. Actually, I found it quite boring.

I also have to say that despite the fact that I very much like Jake Cooper, who acted like to goodhearted boy next door, I really couldn’t stand Sophie-Claire. The author made her up to be a bit of an outsider: curvy and not stick-thin, pierced and tattooed, and of course she’s a songwriter. A (typical?) rebel belle, as the author calls her. However, I don’t see how a person like that could be so naive, self-deprecating or even insecure. And worst of all, completely oblivious of what’s around her and at a total loss. She was with a guy who cheated on her, as soon as bad times knock on her door she flees to her family etc… this all doesn’t scream “rebel”.

So yeah, if you are looking for a carefree read, this might be for you, but I prefer reading books with more intricate plots and stronger/more elaborate personalities.

I received a complimentary e-copy of One Song Away in exchange for an honest review.

Sophie-Clair is down on her luck, her career as a songwriter in Nashville is at a standstill, she discovered her boyfriend of a few months cheating on her and her roommate kicks her out with no warning. Having no where else to go, she returns back to her small hometown. When she was living a few hours away, her mom wasn't close enough to play matchmaker, but now she is, so to avoid any potential dating disasters Sophie decides she needs a pretend relationship with a great boyfriend.

Soon after coming back home, she falls into a job at the local coffeeshop, owned by none other than one of her best friends from high school, Jake, who also happens to be the one guy that Sophie has been crushing on for most of her life. She tells Jake her dilemma about needing a boyfriend and eager to help his former best friend, he is more than happy to help her out.

As Sophie and Jake spend more time together, Sophie starts to question whether or not she was wise to put herself into such close constant contact with Jake. She was heartbroken when they went their separate ways after their high school graduation - and she worries that her heart won't make it out intact this time around.

I really enjoyed this story. I am partial to stories where the potential for friends to discover there's more feelings between them as well as stories where there's a pretend relationship so for there to be a combination of the two, there's no way I was going to miss this one.

I liked getting to know both Sophie and Jake. Jake was a great guy and it was easy to see why Sophie had feelings for the boy she knew before and the man he'd become.

This is the first book I've read by Molli Moran (her 2nd novel) and I'm going to check out her debut and hopefully will be seeing more from her in the future.

Sophie-Claire returns home from Nashville broke and defeated, further away from her dreams of being a songwriter than she ever expected. And as if that isn't enough, her mother's playing matchmaker, effectively forcing Sophie to come up with a relationship in order to avoid being set up with whatever eligible male her mother has decided is perfect for her. Lucky for Sophie, her childhood best friend Jake is willing to step up to the plate, ready to fake a romance and ease Sophie's resettling back home.

I suppose it goes without saying that their fake relationship begins to feel real, and who better to fall in love with than your best friend? Jake knows Sophie better than anyone else does, and mutual trust is a foregone conclusion. On top of the strong foundation of genuine friendship, though, chemistry between them begins to flare, and that has them both second-guessing themselves and what's sparking between them.

Jake is especially realistic, not perfect like one might expect from a romance novel. He's a great guy, and everyone in the story seems to love him, so it's easy to see why they're best friends. But he falls for miscommunication and doubt, taking quite a while to go for what he wants, unable to lay his heart on the line for fear his more-than-friends feelings won't fully be returned. Through his actions — and often inaction — it's easy to see him as just a regular, sometimes insecure guy.

While I liked Sophie, I did have a little more trouble accepting her character. Her situation, from the career failure to second-guessing the budding relationship with Jake made perfect sense. But her rather alternative look — piercings and tattoos — in a somewhat conservative music genre didn't seem to fit. Perhaps with more back-story focused on her, it would have made more sense, but at times it felt like her visible differences were a way to make her character less typical without taking a deeper look at who she was, why she was so driven to be different, where her insecurities came from.

Despite my bit of distance from Sophie, though, One Song Away is a solid best friends falling in love story, with a super-sweet boy-next-door hero and a heroine seeking something more than what life has handed her so far. The romance is a slow build with lots of bumps in the road and the kind of gentle angst that comes from two best friends not wanting to risk their friendship or their hearts, despite their undeniable attraction. It's easy to see why it takes them so long to give in to what we readers expected all along, and when they do, it's well worth the wait.

One Song Away is a standalone new adult romance novel that is perfect for people looking for a really sweet friends to lovers/second chance at love type of read. I loved it for all of those reasons. I had a few minor issues with the book, but the overall feel of the story made me happy- which is kind of the whole point. I loved Jake most of all. This guy is a teddy bear if I ever did see one. It was so clear to me from the start that he had real serious feelings for Sophie-Claire. (who I only saw as Claire because that's what Jake called her.)

The book is told entirely from Sophie- Claire's point of view. I found myself wishing for some Jake POV thrown in, but it was easy enough to figure out what he was thinking and feeling, so it never really detracted from the story. I mostly wanted some of his point of view because I liked him more than I liked Claire. I had a hot and cold relationship with Claire. On one hand, she really did grow on me as a character. There are so many things that I did like about her. I loved how loyal she was to her friends. In fact, the friendship between Claire and Sloane was my second favorite part of the story, after Jake himself. I loved how she was not afraid to be her own person and to own the person that she was. That was really inspiring. But that kind of fed into the thing that I didn't like about her. She claimed to absolutely love herself all the time, but she second guessed herself and had a flair for the dramatic a lot. At times, it seemed like you couldn't win with her. Jake was damned if he did, and damned if he didn't.

Jake and Claire start out having a fake relationship to get her momma off her back. And Claire finds herself wanting the real thing with Jake (ummm...hello! who could blame her??!) So she is sad when she doesn't have the real thing, but then when it looks like Jake might really like her, she gets super upset?? I had no idea why, but she totally freaked out. When girls do things like that it bugs me, so Claire and I had an annoyed moment. But she won me back over by the end of the book. I can completely see why people love Sophie-Claire so much. (and they do love her! Just take a look at goodreads.)

One Song Away is really nicely written. It was a lighter read with almost no angst. And Jake is a show stealer. I just want to hug him and make him hang out with me all the time so he can be super sweet to me. He is so considerate. If you are a fan of the sweet new adult romances with swoon-worthy male leads and great secondary characters, One Song away is the book for you. This review was originally posted on Book Briefs

I received a free copy of "One Song Away" by Molli Moran in exchange for an honest review.

Sophie-Claire Wright is a singer-songwriter who has left her small town to pursue her dream of making it in Nashville. After being there for four years, her boyfriend cheated on her, she is working a minimum wage job while trying to sell her songs and her roommate has kicked her out. She is basically a country song come to life. Seeing no other option, she moves back home to lick her wounds and save some money while reevaluating her life. While there, she reunites with her two best friends growing up, Sloane, who she has kept in touch with since she moved, and Jake, who she hasn't seen or spoken to since she moved away. She has been in love with Jake for as long as she could remember, but after a failed attempt to tell him how she feels, she believes he sees her as a friend only and has tried to move on. Before her car has even cooled off, her mother is trying to set her up with every single man she knows. She decides she needs a decoy, a fake boyfriend to through her mom off the scent and keep her matchmaking skills on hiatus. She is drinking coffee at the new local cafe and runs into none other than Jake. Turns out Jake owns the place. After taking a moment to appreciate the view of a hot adult Jake, she asks him to help her out by being her fake boyfriend. Easy, right? Not so much. The story continues with Sophie deciding between how to keep her feelings for Jake a secret from him and trying to decide if it's possible that he returns them. Are they really just faking it?

This book is great, I loved it. The author does a great job of incorporating humor and romance with the age old story of unrequited love and friends who become more. While doing that, she weaves in themes of acceptance and perseverance. Sloane, Sophie's other best friend, is a lesbian who is out in a small town. Her family disowned her, but she isn't hiding from who she is. Jake also has a brother who is gay, who has also struggled with being out. Sophie left town a little girl and came back tatted up with facial piercings, also not seen much in small town life. Seeing these characters stay true to themselves, not backing down to societal pressures is great. There are people who are rude to them, but for the most part they are accepted for who they are. This is also refreshing, as often small town folk are portrayed as being narrow minded bigots. There are a few, the popular girls from high school, but for the most part no one treats them differently. I love that. Reading about Sophie and Jake, how well they know each other yet are getting to know each other as adults, is a treat. I highly recommend!

Hun skriver i hvert fald virkelig godt.

I loved this book! The main character, Sophie-Claire was a strong lead and very well written. I enjoyed her story quite a bit. I liked the fact that we didn't start out knowing about her love interest Jake Cooper. And Jake Cooper... I loved Coop. He was the ideal book boyfriend. Not once in the entire story did I have any negative feelings for him.

Throughout their “fake” relationship, I found myself giddy with anticipation. There was nothing truly fake about their relationship. I felt that at any minute something could change and I just couldn’t read fast enough. Their relationship was treated with utter carefulness. There is a scene in the book where they are about to take the relationship to the a whole new level and it was just written perfectly. It was raw and emotional and I felt like I was there watching it, feeling it happen. That's what I love about a good book, a well written book. I want to feel what the characters are feeling. And the author definitely accomplished that.

During a moment of reflection, Sophie made reference to a “shooting star” relationship. I don’t know why, but I absolutely loved the concept. I think it's a wonderful little piece of wisdom, that I’d be smart to remember, since I have two young daughters, who will undoubtedly need to hear it someday.

“Shooting star” relationships, as Mama calls them. She claims some people are in our lives for a short time, for a purpose, and then no matter how amazing the relationship, they’re gone.

Overall, this was a great book. It’s about falling in love and giving away your heart even though you know it might never be returned. It’s also about growing up and being brave, following your heart and your dreams. It’s a wonderful new book to add to this up-and-coming New Adult genre.

This was a friends to lovers story about Sophie-Claire and her best friend Jake. The story is told from Sophie's POV. Back to her small town after not making it in Nashville she is faced with her mother's meddling to get her a man. Rather than deal with that she feels it would be best to fake a relationship with her former best friend Jake who just also happens to have come back a few months ago. The fact that she had been in love with Jake almost her whole life shouldn't have mattered. After all, she is mature and grown up now and can handle it. What boggled me was if she was so mature, why the need for a fake relationship anyway.

Anyhow, Jake is happy to help his old friend out and we quickly see the relationship being anything but fake. Jake seems to be just as much in to the relationship as Sophie is but throughout the book we hear Sophie second guessing everything and even though Jake is acting like he likes her, she isn't sure if he means it.

This book was filled with miscommunications, second guessing and a lot of Sophie's thoughts on everything. Honestly, I didn't get Sophie as the heroine. I have not come across many pierced, tatted up country females and so it was hard for me to wrap myself around her character. I also don't think we got enough of her back story. Was she someone people didn't like, yet she was best friends with the guy everyone loved? Or was that just simply her self doubt?

As far as Jake was concerned he was pretty likable but I just didn't get why he didn't go for what he wanted after all this time. I also wish he would have made some grand effort at getting Sophie back. Why neither of them spoke their minds despite the obvious chemistry between them leaves me scratching my head. And I am at the point that if I have to wait til 98 percent for the characters to finally be together, I just am not that interested in it by that point. I think the book had a lot of potential, it just never really got there for me.

The title somewhat has a poetic feel to it. One Song Away kind of makes sense considering that Sophie is an inspiring songwriter. Anyways, fill-in boyfriend? Yep. I think so. I totally love those cliche ideas and things that people will probably never do. Or maybe they do. Not sure. :)

Let's start off with the characters.

Sophie Claire - a country girl going to the city to make some big bucks. But in this case, she wasn't successful and had to go back home. Okay. Had some bad taste in men along the way. No new besties. And well, no other place to live. I guess. Sophie was a bit intriguing. She didn't really have that much story to her other than being the main character.

Jake - Of course, the love interest is always more mysterious. Since we don't really know his side of the story to begin with. Jake definitely sounds like a hunk. He's supposed to be model status and all. Jeez. Wonder where all the model status boys of my city went. :D But anyways, ex-best friend of Sophie. Interesting. And she always had a crush on him. And Jake turned out to be even hotter than when he was in high school! Good riddance! Jake is interesting, I guess. Kind of flirty.

I think I liked the idea behind the characters more. The plot of fill-in boyfriends and faking things that turned out to be real. Well, it's always been there for Sophie. So the real question is does Jake want it to be real? Although Sophie keeps on telling herself she won't fall for Jake again, who is she kidding? She was in love him before. He got a hot personality. And the looks. Kind of successful. How can you not fall for that?

Well, I really liked the book just kept on flowing. It wasn't super long, but not too short. Very satisfying. So if you're looking for a fun, quick, new adult read, here's one for you.

The content is not very explicit. At all. There is one intimate scene. Plus some little romance here and there. I was expecting more since she's probably college age. But otherwise, a fun breezy read!

The Rating: 7~

This read was a solid four star for me. It was exactly what I was needing, something sweet, cute, easy to read and full of messages and symbolism.

Sophie is a young woman who is unfortunately having to move back to her hometown after her living arrangements in Nashville didn't pan out. Disappointingly, she doesn't feel as if she has accomplished what it is that she wanted to while in the big city. She also isn't sure how she feels about being back in her old home. In order to get her mother's sights off her dating life, she enlists the help of her best friend and former unrequited love from high school to be her "boyfriend". However, as their "relationship" progresses and her feelings grow, the lines between real and pretend become blurred.

This read had many positives for me. First and foremost, a heroine I enjoyed! She was smart, real, down to earth and funny. Of course she had her faults, as all good characters do, but I found her engaging and fun to read. She was determined, had a good relationship with the secondary characters in the book and always learned from her mistakes and decisions. This made the reading experience just that much better, you feel as if you are growing with the her.

Oh, and Lets not forget about Jake or "Coop" as Sophie refers to him. He was sweet, kind, caring and was NOT the stereotypical "bad boy" "man whore" hero I have been seeing a lot of. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind my bad boys, but it was nice to read about someone unique. He treats Sophie with respect and is a strong character in his own right.

All of the secondary characters were engaging and insightful and complimented the heroine and hero in just the right way. I would really like to see a Sloane book, Sophie's best friend, in the future.

All in all, this was a great read. The writing was effortless to read, the messages about love and life were strong and the characters were relate able. Definitely one I would recommend. PS, where is my Jake? Swoon.

Thank you so much to The New Adult Book Club on Goodreads and Molli Moran for providing me with a free copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

One Song Away tells the story of Sophie a songwriter who was trying to make it in Nashville but after a nasty breakup and a horrible roommate, she leaves the big city and returns to her hometown, where she reconnects with her family, friends and also with the first love of her life, her best friend Jake, whom she hasn’t seen in some years.

When they meet again they are both in a predicament, Jake need someone who works in his coffee shop and Sophie needs a fake boyfriend, so they strike a deal, but soon the lines begin to blur and what started as fake becomes very real, it’s obvious they both have feelings for each other but the fear of finally obtaining what they’ve both wanted for a long time can be crippling.

What I really liked about this book is that all the characters are relatable, and I particularly admired Sophie’s energy and desire to pursue her dreams, even when professionally and personally things weren’t going great, she always found a way to stay positive.

If you’re looking for a fun and romantic read, then this book is definitely for you.

One Song Away

***ARC provided by the Author for an honest review***

Sophie Claire is chasing her dreams in Nashville as a singer/songwriter. Even before her Highschool graduation she was decided to leave Martinville and to leave everything behind. She thought everything will be alright in her new life in a new place but she was kicked out by her roommate and being broke leave her no choice but to go back to her old town. Being back in her old place will bring back some memories, especially when she see again her first true love... her bestfriend Jake Cooper.

This is a refreshing story especially after reading a tearjerking novel. I love how Molli written Claire's POV and her feelings about what she thought an unrequited love. Although there are slow parts in the book, Claire and Jake's love story makes me want to continue and finish the story.

“I’ve loved every version of you, but I’m happiest now, here, with this version. I love you. I’m in love with you.”

One part that I also love in this book is how Claire will discover the road to take and to know what she really wants. This is really an example of an NA novel, the the battle and transition to adulthood is really hard and confusing, and this book was able to show the feeling.

“I feel like I’m two versions of myself: the one who lived here before, and the one who lived there. I think I’m more lost than I realized, S."

Lowlights:
There are slow parts in the book that I think should have been shortened or replaced. But hey, maybe that is part of the experience... to experience as well the feeling of Claire's ups and downs.

Overall, this book is a great light read if you want to take a rest first on heavy stuffs. I thank Molli for this novel and I was able to witness Claire's start of adulthood and most of all her and Jake's love story.

All parts charming, witty, heart-felt, genuine, and creative. There's a great love story to be found here. But even more than that, it's the story about a strong young woman who is fighting for herself - for her dreams, for her future, for taking the time to figure out what she really wants. I loved this part of the book even more than the love story (and that's saying something because it's particularly spectacular). Inspirational in a straight-to-the-heart, gut-wrenching, non-preachy way. I want to give this to my younger sister (whose in the midst of middle school mean girls drama) so she knows it's okay to just be yourself.

Bravo on this second book!
Highly recommend checking out Molli's pintrest board for this book.

Hoping Molli continues Jake and SC's story one day.

*I was kindly gifted a copy of One Song Away to read in exchange for an honest review.*

This was a light, quick read that followed the main character, Sophie Claire, as she’s faced with her only option of returning to her small hometown due to her financial situation and lack of hitting it big with her dream of becoming a songwriter/singer. The development flowed nicely, and there was a sweet romance, focusing on her childhood best friend whom she secretly loved, and how after years of being out of contact, they pick up their friendship only to begin a fake dating relationship.
I always enjoy stories of childhood-best-friends-becoming-more romance plots and this one definitely delivered. As they play at having a relationship, Sophie’s old feelings are rekindled and puts not just the dating act, but their entire friendship in jeopardy. Jake as the male interest is that perfect guy next door combination that just really makes you want to like him no matter what. I really enjoyed their interactions and how the story unfolds for both of them.
My one thing that detracted from the story was some of the internal dialogue that Sophie has for figuring out how she feels about her current place in life and Jake and how everything’s moving forward. There were some instances in which she would share one thought, but immediately follow it with a contradicting comment that made me have to stop and re-read what I just went over wondering if I read it wrong.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys sweet, quick reads without a ton of crazy drama that still delivers a solid romance and self discovery made by a strong female lead.

I was provided an ARC for an honest review.

One phrase to sum up this story: Sweetly simple.

The premise of the story was exactly as described: Sophie moves home after a change in life events, runs into her high school crush, Jake. Her mother, who wants to help Sophie get back on her feet and back into the dating pool wants to set her up on a blind date. Not wanting to swim those waters just yet--she lies and says she's already seeing someone. She asks Jake to be the "pretend boyfriend" and soon it's hard to tell if kisses are "fake" or if they're something more.

I, like many, love the idea of friends becoming more than friends. It's relatable and very real to life. Same with reconnecting with friends from our childhood, and the curveballs life tosses at us (relationships ending, moving, starting over, etc.).

I did struggle a little bit, through with the progression of the book. There is a LOT of internal dialogue as it is from Sophie's point of view. I, personally, want to feel a connection to the characters and hearing that internal chatter often is helpful. This time, though, I found it hard to stay focused to the same internal struggle that she has with her feelings for Jake. I wish there was more quoted dialogue between the characters.

Overall, though, if you're looking for a story that is a beach/on the plane/rainy afternoon read? This just might be the book for you!

5 amazing stars!

I'm a sucker for friends to lovers stories. I just love the growing up together, knowing all each other's secrets, and developing feeling for each other, then finally falling in love. I had this book on my kindle for a while and finally got the chance to read it, and now I'm kicking myself wishing I would have read it sooner! This is an amazing book! The emotions are flying off of the pages! I felt everything the main character was feeling! Brilliant writing!! I will definitely look for more books from the author.

Sophie Claire is living in Nashville, trying to make it as a singer/songwriter. She is kicked out of her apartment and is forced to move back to her small town home. The last person she expects to run into is Jake "Coop" Cooper. He's her childhood best friend and the guy she was secretly in love with for years! Her family is riding her back about meeting a nice guy, so she asks Coop to be her fake boyfriend, just to get her mom off her back. Can Sophie Claire really do this whole fake boyfriend thing with old feelings getting in the way?

Loved this book! I loved seeing the main character grow and learn more about herself! Great book! Do not miss this one! It's a must read!

I received this book in return for my honest review.

I would give this book sweet 4 stars.

The plot consists of Sophie-Claire, a young aspiring singer/songwriter, who moves from her small home town, to the bigger Nashville in hope of becoming a star. sadly everything that can go wrong, does. Her crappy boyfriend cheats on her, her room mate kicks her out and her inspiration to write has disappeared. Only one option remains, moving back home.

Once home, she realises all that she has missed about the small town, which is no surprise as the people she met in Nashville were not likeable, and then she becomes reacquainted with Jake 'coop' cooper. To please her mother, Sophie says she has a boyfriend, luckily for her, Jake steps into the fake role, however it soon become apparent that there is nothing fake about the relationship and both are madly in love with each other.

What follows next includes drama, angst, sizzling chemisty and a much deserved HEA.

I really enjoyed this book, I particulaly liked Jakes character, he was very sweet ' fake' boyfriend, I loved the scene where he showed up to her parents in his shirt and tie.

This book was light, funny, sweet and enjoyable. I would happily read more from Molli Moran in the future.

Thank you for the opportunity.

lovely story, I found it a quick read something nice and light.
I enjoyed the relationship between Sophie and Jake.
Jake is such a sweetheart he's the perfect mixture of bad boys meets good boy. I could easily see Jake was head over heels for Sophie and I enjoyed how it all came together in the end.
Sophie I liked her she just annoyed me a bit with how she dealt with the situation with Jake after she admitted that she loved him, but otherwise I really enjoyed the main characters.
I really liked Sloan and wished we had bit more about her.
the thing I think for me that would have given it more stars if we got more memories of when they were growing up, we know they were troublesome and would have liked to read what other trouble they caused.
Sloan,Sophie and Jake grew up together yet we never get the three of them hanging out together and we hardly have memories of the group together, it's always memories of Jake and Sophie. we get drips and drabs of Sloan, which I understand this isn't her story but I think Sloan has a big impact on Sophie and the outlooks she has on life.

the final chapter was very well written and you can feel the love and chemistry between Jake and Sophie, I think by not rushing the physical side of the relationship it works out better for these two.

My Rating: 4 stars

Disclaimers: I received an e-galley of this book from Netgalley in exchange for my honest opinion.

My Overall Thoughts/Impressions: This book was a cute light read that I really enjoyed. Sophie and Jake's story was cute. They had been friends for forever, but each of them was scared to let the other know that they felt more for the entire time. Now years, later they need do discover if they still have chemistry.

It was a cute, lighthearted read, but one that I enjoyed. I've been reading a lot of New adult fiction lately and yet this one stood out of the crowd. Readers who want a cute comical lighthearted read should check out One Song Away.

This book had me laughing and rooting for Sophie and Jack the entire time. A cute read.

So why 4 stars? Like I said it stood out to me. It was cute and I enjoyed the characters.

Warnings/Side-notes: I don't remember, but I think it's pretty clean.

The Wrap-up: A cute, funny read that fans of new adult will love. Molli Moran's novel is a cute read about chasing your dreams, even the ones that seem destined to fail.

Love,

*I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*

This was the sweetest story! It wasn't filled with all the angst that many new adult books have lately. (Not complaining really, I love angst as much as anyone!) It was just a nice change for once. After leaving to try to be something more than a small town girl, and not succeeding, Sophie is heading back home. Sophie doesn't want to disappoint her mother more. So when mom asks about her love life Sophie makes a guy up. Of course, her mom wants to meet him. Luckily (maybe?) Sophie runs into Jake Cooper whom she used to have a huge crush on. He says he'll pretend to be her boyfriend for her.

Obviously, this scenario only is attempted in books... And they never work because of pesky feelings that arise. But it was such a fun story to read. How they attempt to keep it from becoming more. It was romantic in the greatest way! Jake was an awesome book boyfriend. He was sexy, sweet, funny and understanding. If only I could find my very own Jake! I highly recommend reading this book!

It's a sweet and romantic story. I really liked Jake, and the relationship development between him and Sophie, even though it surprised me a bit that Jake didn't understand Sophie's feelings for him at all and the other way around or that they didn't talk anything about it sooner.

Sophie-Claire had been living in Nashville to pursuit her dreams as a singer/songwriter, but after negative events she returns to her hometown. She unexpectedly meets Jake, who she was secretly in love with back in school time, and they are both happy to see each other. Sophie decides to ask him as her fill-in boyfriend, to stop her mom finding her a suitable boyfriend. The more time they spend together, the more she starts to like their fake relationship and wishes it to be real. Does her wish come true? It's worth reading and finding out.

It's a novel about finding yourself, staying true to your heart and making your wishes come true.

with the darker books out there - i loved the clean romance. This book took you exactly where it said it would. The journey of Claire is one that we all go through, some without the Mum with great food or best friend with the insults and kicing your ass when it needs that or the new friends who get you. the pulling together of the supporting characters in this book was really good, and needed. I loved that Claire found out by herself instead of someone pointing out in a yelling match her issue. And the way she deals with a situation, we all love to at times.
The fact that you didnot leave it to happily ever after was good as well, life and her journey had to continue.

THank you for the opportunity to review this book. Good writings

Sophie-Claire has moved away from her small town in Tennessee to Nashville in hopes of making it big in the song writing world. When things start to fall apart (her boyfriend breaking up with her, her room mate kicking her out and not having enough money to stay in the city on her own), she finds herself moving back home.

Long story short. She runs into her old best friend/high school secret crush that helps her find a job and keep her mother from setting her up on dates by pretending to be dating. Of corse old feelings erupts and Sophie-Claire doesn't know how to handle them. Does she run away, does she tell him or does she hide her feelings??

Despite me not agreeing with how she chose to handle the situation the story was quite well written and enjoyable. I give this book 3.5 stars. I would read more books from this author. And I definitely would recommend everyone to read this love story.
