Moody's Addresses: 12 Sermons That Will Change Your Life [Updated and Annotated]

Rate this book
Where am I? Who am I? Where am I going? I think it is good for a man to pause and ask himself these questions. I do not ask you where you are in the eyes of your family, friends, or the community in which you live. It is of very little account what men think of us, but it is of vast importance what God thinks of us.

Am I in communion with my Creator or out of communion? If I am out of communion, there is no true peace, joy, or happiness. But when we are in communion with God, there is light all around our path. You may think that your life is hidden, that God does not know anything about you, but He knows our lives much better than we do, and His eye has been fixed on us from our earliest childhood until now.

I have heard of many people who think that if they join a church and make a profession of faith, that will suffice for the rest of their days. But there is also a cross for every one of us daily. O child of God, where are you? If God were to appear to you tonight and ask the question, “Where are you?” what would your answer be? Could you say, “Lord, I am serving You with my whole heart and strength; I am improving my talents and preparing for the kingdom to come”?

Dwight Lyman Moody was a predominant evangelist, author, and publisher. Raised on a farm in Massachusetts, he moved first to Boston, where he converted to evangelical Christianity in 1856, and then to Chicago, where he prospered in business. He gave up business in 1860 and engaged in missionary work with the YMCA (1861-73).

He founded Moody Church and preached in the slums, emphasizing literal interpretation of the Bible and the need to prepare for the Second Coming. In 1870 he teamed up with the hymn writer Ira D. Sankey (1840-1908), and they began a series of highly popular revival tours in Britain and the U.S. Moody founded the Northfield School (1879), the Mount Hermon School (1881), and the Chicago Bible Institute (1889; now the Moody Bible Institute).

This book contains transcriptions of messages that Dwight L. Moody preached during a campaign in England. The gospel was clearly preached. Many people heard the gospel from Moody. His influence is still felt today.

Only Christ Is Necessary

Only one thing in this world is absolutely necessary. That one thing is to accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. There are many other things that will come and go, but only this one thing is required to sustain our life today and forever. Dwight Moody makes this fact clear to any that will listen to the simple truth told by one whose life has been changed forever and wants to tell others so that they too can truly live.
