I wrote it so it's awesome. Not your traditional splatterpunk novella but it is just gory enough to sicken the casual reader.

Take a backseat in a serial killer's mind.  He isn't crazy, and he has never been emotionally traumatized.  Why does he kill?  Well, why not?  Maybe it's something in the blood.  This is the story of a disturbing and gory legacy, one that is destined to continue.  Readers, please note that there is a Part Two, which I will be reading next.

Yeah, man. DEATH!

I was reading this book, and it was good, and then it was over, and I was like, "wat".

A gory account of a killer, made terrifying by the fact he was just a normal person. He just wanted to kill. The notion of someone snapping and going out on a rampage is scary enough, but when the snap is followed by planning and cunning, it's even scarier. Michael makes a point here, and you can grasp it if you can swim through all the blood and guts. And I'm glad I did.

The ending is fantastic, and I hope to God there's a follow up

Michael Noe GOES THERE. Legacy is a series of journals written by a mysterious killer who likes shopping at Wal-Mart and drinks blood from his victims' wounds. The brutal recountings of how and why he kills are rather disturbing and leave nothing to the imagination. And this is a good thing, folks! Remember that you're reading a slasher novel.

The story flowed and was consistent. Maintaining a steady pace throughout, and not going overboard on descriptive filler, I didn't find any boring parts and also didn't think it was too short at just over 100 pages.

The influences from Richard Laymon and Edward Lee and evident here and well used.

I had to step outside of my own comfort zone to read this one, but I'm glad I strayed from what I know for long enough to read this. It was refreshing to see this kind of madness on the pages of a book, but in such a controlled and thoughtful way. It was a little American Psycho, a little Blood Games by Richard Laymon, and just an all around fun time that you might feel a little guilty about having. Four stars for someone who isn't a slasher enthusiast, but no doubt five stars for someone who is.

"The truth is that we all face death everyday. We eat breakfast with it, it rides with us to our jobs and to school."

These journals explain the gruesome displays of one man's many victim. His random selected people in a small town that did many things to find him, but never did.

This man writes all his gruesome attacks each death scene gets better as it goes on. Creative at some points and the blood that pours out will have you splashing around in it for more.

The sequel is coming and I have a feeling grandma has a brand new bag.

Not for the week minded souls.

This is fantastic book. I was guessing up until the very end. The character's evolution (or in this case, maybe de-evolution is more appropriate) is nicely paced. I totally recommend it, even if splatterpunk isn't a genre you normally read (not something I usually read, which is why this is getting such a good rating from me)

The premise of this story intrigues me; I enjoy a walk through a dark mind as much as any other horror fan… maybe a bit more. While I did have a few issues with the story, as a whole, I would describe it as a delightfully sinful ride through the twisted and macabre that is hard to put down but equally disgusting. It is the story of a self-created monster and his descent into madness, his own questions of self-morality and what really is at the heart of evil.

I had a few issues with Legacy that made it difficult to fully enjoy. The first, and most prominent issue, would be the volley of grammar and spelling mistakes; it reads much like a first draft. I wondered if it might be intentional at first, for the sake of authenticity with the journals, but it seems the novel is just in dire need of an editor. Kevin’s fiancé’s name, for example, appears to have been changed a few times because it is randomly different in a select few passages with no reference to different women being central to the story. There are words that do not make sense, incorrect use of tenses, and common blunders like “they’re” vs “their”, and so on.

Another issue that weighed on me, the protagonist moves with an air or superiority, a feeling that he will not get caught even though his only experience with forensic science comes from watching television. However, the first thing that television crime dramas demonstrates is the prowess of forensic science… yet he has no concern regarding his finger prints, murder weapons, vomit, spit etc. He mentions gloves once, and only shows concern when it comes to rape with DNA evidence as an identifying factor. Yet he will lick his victims? The time lines also do not match up between journals and correlating dates, but I digress.

On the flip side, I enjoyed the flow of Kevin’s commentary and evolution through the story. He did not feel contrived or cliché, he felt like an original character living out his own wildest and purest fantasies, discovering just how deep his darkness went. How are monsters made? Can you make yourself a monster? And then what will you feel- will you still be yourself? Or something entirely new? I found that impressive because I think that finding original ways to present a killer has become a true challenge in modern horror. Michael Noe achieved this. Kevin both fascinated and disgusted me. I even found myself hoping he would get caught, hating him, wishing for his death.

One particular line in the story stuck out to me, related to Kevin’s view on rape and murder. “When you kill someone you are essentially stealing their life. You can't fix death.” I found it interested that a killer had this view. While death cannot be undone, it is a release and freedom from the pain and aftermath of being a victim.

Another thing I enjoyed about the story was the cut-in non-journal pieces, commentary from another killer. It is an underlying mystery that courses through the story, keeping it alive and pulsing, as it were.

I genuinely enjoyed the story. My biggest issues lie with the grammar and word misuse, as I can live in suspension of disbelief for a good tale. And the ending indeed, is very fitting of this tale.

A strong first book from the author that flew by before I knew it. It is based on the journals of a small town serial killer without any of the childhood trauma, evil inner voices, insanity, or other typical shit you hear used as a reason or motive. Plenty of gory violence here, but the protagonist is written well enough that you are there with him 100%. The tie-in to a previous generation, along with the great ending makes me hopeful that the "to be continued" holds some truth and does not keep me waiting very long to deliver.

I can’t tell you how many “DIARY OF A SERIAL KILLER” books I’ve picked up over the years. We know I’ve become jaded, but it’s not just that I want sicker & bloodier – I want the heart. That’s what I read in LEGACY by Michael Noe.
We get to ride along with a fifth grade English teacher as he tries to become the perfect monster – without getting caught. But, we’re not the only one’s following Kevin Vincent’s transformation. He’s already got a ‘fan’.

My second stand-alone read by Michael Noe ... This is the kind of gory good fun I enjoy. Serial killer madness that made me smirk at times. Keep in mind, I am not the average reader, and not everyone has my cast iron tummy ... but even if you don't, you're going to like this. I'm eager to start Legacy 2.

How many times have all of us watched on the news about a serial killer, wondering what got them there? Some have families, friends and a job, and everyone says the standard line "he was such a nice guy." This book is a little bit like that, except you are watching as the main character makes the decision to walk down this path and then you continue down the path with him. The book starts out with him actually making the mental decision of not surviving if he gets caught and with him picking out notebooks so he can have his gruesome adventure documented. For me, this was the most disturbing part. Watching this seemingly normal guy, engaged with a job as a teacher no less, make this choice and watch it unfold was almost hypnotic.

This is a stand out novel in that splatter horror genre. An excellent read :)
