RA Hunter writes unapologetically authentic sapphic love stories because the world deserves more messy characters, tender chaos, and queer identity. As an AuDHD writer shaped by early-00s alt pop culture and the gloriously unhinged pre-regulation internet, she brings a brain wired for intensity, curiosity, and delightful chaos to every story she creates.
When she’s not writing, she works in television—an industry that perfectly complements her love of storytelling, organized chaos, and deadlines that sprint instead of walk. At home, she’s happily outnumbered by her dogs, who insist on supervising every creative endeavor.
Her dedication to crafting emotionally resonant queer stories was recognized in 2025, when she won the Best Self-Published Novel award at the Indieverse Awards—an affirmation of the voice she once was not sure she could share.

Spicy with a side of understanding!

So this book came up in a Discord server I'm in and I gave it a read. Very good. Spicy!
Best part is I learned something (and not just something new to try in bed)! The MC is AuDHD and the author did an amazing job of showing just how a person with this mental disorder copes and often doesn't cope with day to day life. My oldest, who turns 9 on 11/17, was diagnosed as being on the spectrum. I really have a hard time with some of the things she just cannot handle. I did not realize that texture was such an issue or that some sounds could be such a trigger. Many other things this MC had going on gave me insight into my own kid and helped me to be able to understand and help her more.
So great read. Maybe some trigger warnings for trauma and lots of spice with a cliff hanger that will leave you wishing for the "rest of the story!"

It hurts me to say this, since I wanted to love this book so badly, but it pained me to read it.

Firstly, I personally felt like the main characters didn't have a lot of chemistry with each other, and whenever I felt that they did, they were having sex. Amy felt so guilty for what she did, and claimed she never wanted to hurt Lauren, but she did just that. She hurt her repeatedly, and barely even apologized for it. Instead of apologies, she would tell Lauren about parts of the reasons why she hurt her in the first place. She didn't even take accountability whatsoever. Amy honestly just pissed me off. She kept on hurting Lauren with what felt like no remorse, and she just continued not communicating. I get that she has a troubled past, but that means she shouldn't be having one night stands with people if she can't communicate.

Secondly, the writing style was very confusing, because it went from being in the third person to being in the first person and then changing character perspectives all in one chapter without notice. I was just left to try and figure out what was happening. The main thing I found the author doing was telling the audience the main characters were in love, instead of showing us with actions that they loved each other.
The writing style also felt very immature, which is weird considering this book is very smutty and also has all adult characters.

The majority of this book is just smut, which I wouldn't have a problem with normally, but in this case it just felt a little cringe at times, and felt unnecessary when the two main characters could have done things that were romantic instead of sexual. They went on 3 dates and had sex many more times than that. It just felt like the author was focused on the wrong thing to me.

And the ending just pissed me off. There was no reason anything needed to happen in that way, and it was over dramatized when I would much rather have the two main characters talk about their feelings like adults.

Overall, I wouldn't really recommend this book. I found there were a lot of conceptual issues with it, but I hope other readers enjoy this more than me.

Thank you to RA Hunter for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review!

“The Many Mistakes of Amy Love” by RA Hunter is a contemporary sapphic romance novel, the first in a series (at least a duology, the back of the book promises!) that seems designed to capture the messiness and truth of sapphic connection, both the incandescence of it and the heartbreak.

Laura is rescued from a creep at a bar by green-eyed redheaded Brit, Amy Love. What follows is a series of extraordinary sexual encounters (phew! the spice is niiiiice), each both lighting Laura up, and drawing her closer to the enigma that is Amy. Amy is autistic, and she’s carrying a rather hefty lot of baggage that she doesn’t know how to handle, and certainly doesn’t know how to protect others from.

The real strength of this book, I think, is in its observation of characters and the minutiae of their interactions. It takes an omniscient pov, dipping into the perspectives of different characters often within the one scene. This is unusual in contemporary fiction, but Hunter uses it to great effect, drawing out not only the ways that what we usually label ‘miscommunication’ really functions in relationships, but also the tiny behaviours, observations and reflections that wind up shaping how people relate. This isn’t just about the love story, because the friendships are finely drawn too – but the love story does get its weight and significance from these.

The unusual attentiveness to the complex web that form relationships is I think the strength of the story – and the author displays a maturity belied by the fact that this is a debut novel in her willingness not to take the easy out. The promise of the series is clearly laid out here – love doesn’t conquer all, and it can’t heal everything that has hurt us – but nonetheless, it may be worth sticking around for. Can’t wait to see the pay off as the story continues.

The Many Mistakes of Amy Love is a sapphic romance that tore my heart to pieces in the best way possible. It was the start of a series I'm now super excited to read and I will leave my review as spoiler free as possible.

Amy and Laura both feel deeply real to me and I find myself rooting for both of them. Hunter's ability to show the intricate details of every scene and so clearly describe deep emotion makes every character feel real and distinct. Every character from Amy to more minor characters like Zoey and Jamie are people I want to meet.

The mental health rep and disability rep is own voice and very accurate. When a panic attack happens, I can feel it in my own body because it's just that real- from the intense rooftop scene to the scene where Amy's in her apartment and unsure of what to do.

There were many, many s3x scenes that were both emotionally evocative and super hot. There is a gentle exploration of power dynamics and love in the intimacy style of Amy and Laura as their story progresses that definitely enhanced the plot.

All in all I enthusiastically recommend The Many Mistakes of Amy Love and can't wait for the next installment. Pretty please give us readers more.

Thank you Hunter for the opportunity to read and review this book early in exchange for an unbiased review.

What do you get when you mix 1 fiery red-head with crippling anxiety and 1 queen of one-night-stands? A shining knight moment, misunderstandings, and pure combustion–sexy, smoldering kisses, and put-me-on-the-counter fireworks along with more anxiety than Amy Love knows what to do with. Amy has a secret though. She’s also the puzzle that Laura couldn’t quit if she tried. Even their overlapping friend group sees the complexities of this budding relationship. And they all have an opinion about Amy Love in love.

Patient, kind, Laura is determined to show Amy that she's deserving of love if she’ll open herself up to it. All the growth and caring they showed for one another during both intimate and other overwhelming moments had me rooting for them until the end.

Emotional carnage, sadness, and resilience wrapped up in a beautiful story showing the chokehold anxiety and some types of autism can have on things that should simply make us feel happy and wanted.

Content Warnings at the bottom

The Many Mistakes of Amy Love is the first book in The Many Mistakes series. This character-driven novel possibly was a little too relatable for me.

Amy Love hasn't had much luck when it comes to love or letting people in. She has a lot of anxiety (particularly around being autistic). I really appreciate the characterization of Amy as an autistic woman. I felt that I could relate to a lot of her feelings and struggles. The portrayal of Amy didn't lean heavily into stereotypes and also didn't excuse some of her less savory behavior. She felt messy, and she felt real.

Now, Amy and Laura's spark is strong. Maybe not as much on the romantic end, but wow, yeah, based on the cover/title/description I was not expecting this novel to be as spicy as it is. It's a lot. The spice is decent. I did think it felt a little repetitive by the end, but yeah they were barely able to keep their hands off each other.

The cast of side characters felt diverse and very much gave found-family vibes. They clearly had a lot of love for their friend(s), but also would call them out at times which I appreciated. SCs featured gay and trans rep.

This book has a lot of (technically) avoidable drama and the plot really centers around the characters, so if you are looking for something with a more detailed plot or don't like miscommunication in romance books I wouldn't recommend this book to you. I enjoyed it though, and I would be curious to read the next two books in the series when they come out.

Deeply disappointing. I can see the germ of a cool idea: an autistic and traumatised British woman who uses sex as a way to keep people at a distance and avoid relationships finally meets someone she wants a relationship with. The actual implementation is, sadly, sorely lacking.

1. We need several editing passes for this. The number of times "too" is used instead of "to" or a word is missing, or we see "red head" and "redhead" used randomly and interchangeably gets very old very quickly. My pet peeve, i.e. not using contractions in speech for native English speakers ever is present here. For example, instead of "I'll let you know soon", we have "I will let you know soon". Lack of proper punctuation also hits hard, unfortunately, and they all build up to severely reduce my enjoyment of a book.

2. The characters are incredibly shallow. One MC's deep dark horrible secret is that she's autistic and she can't possibly share this with anyone because in the year of our lord two thousand and twenty-four in Toronto, people will shun her, perhaps string her up in the town square for the villagers to throw tomatoes at her? Who knows. The other main character has sex on her mind about 90% of the time we are in her head. Deeply uninteresting and dull after the first twenty percent of the book. The first MC also has trauma from her childhood but is an adult in the sciences who has never sought any kind of therapy despite frequent panic attacks and an inability to form relationships with anyone aside from one best friend.

3. The side characters. The amount of recapping whole relationships and sex acts blow by blow (pun always intended) to side characters who are friends, roommates, or both, is excruciatingly cringey. Why would you share such details about your hookups and let them invasively read your text messages with your partner like this? And it happens twice, once for each main character. Confounding for adults to act like this and have absolutely nothing going on in their own lives except to be the side characters in the MC's romance.

Overall, this went on far too long and there is very little explanation provided right at the end. The rest of this book is just erotica, which is fine except that we know the MC uses sex to distract from actually discussing anything in any depth so the extended sex scenes feel like a waste of time and a diversion from getting a deeper understanding of anything going on with them.

TL;DR: Disappointing.

Honestly, this was a waste of my time.
It doesn't have a happy ending and I'm not going to read the next book, so I basically forced myself through this for nothing.

The only positive thing I have to say is that I appreciated and liked the autism rep and I could relate to Amy quite a bit.

Now for the negative things...
The writing was very confusing, but I eventually got into it more, Changing character perspectives multiple times per chapter.
There is basically no plot.
The characters didn't have much chemistry in my opinion and they spend way too little time together.
Maybe cut scenes with side characters and focus on the main characters.
Acctually make them have real conversations about their interests or something.
It was told that they had these conversations but they weren't shown to us.
All they did was fuck or argue.
Amy calling Laura "Princess" cringed me out.
It felt very repetitive, like they were having the same conversation and argument every 20 pages.
Laura was claiming she loved Amy, I didn't really see that. Amy was claiming she was sorry for hurting Laura, I didn't really see that.
The sex scenes weren't even that great.

From the very first page of this book, I was hooked. Hunter has such a unique writing style that combines vivid imagery with the third person narrative in a way that makes you feel like you’re part of the story.

There is such a complexity to the characters, and I love that the story embraces their imperfections. Even when the characters are making more questionable decisions, I found I was more invested in the ‘why’ behind their actions vs judging them on the actions they took. The characters are complex, multi-layered, and sometimes messy—but that’s why I love them.

TMMOAL explores so many different aspects of friendship, dating, romantic relationships, and even family dynamics, and how all of those different types of relationships shape who someone becomes, and how those experiences drive their actions. At the heart of it, there were so many relatable scenarios that led to me connecting with multiple characters in different ways.

But what I love most is that TMMOAL explores relationships in a way that highlights the parts that aren’t typically shown in public—the messiness, complexities, conflict, and difficult decisions that have to be made. Hunter opens up a window into these characters lives, allowing the reader to see each situation from all angles. It creates a super immersive experience, and oh my goodness, all the feels.

English Amy Love has a rule...don’t let people get too close. But when a few unexpected encounters bring her face-to-face with Laura, Amy wonders if she’s finally found someone worth breaking her own rule for.
The story takes place in Canada and starts as a meet cute at a bar. Amy notices that Laura is being harassed by a man on the rooftop and rescues her. Until then I thought I had the MCs pegged, but nothing is what it seems. Amy is autistic and throughout the story she struggles to maintain her connection and situationship with Laura stable. Oftentimes I felt sad for Laura. She’s infinitely patient and really wants to make it work with Amy. The story and plot is definitely something new to me, how Amy struggles with her disability, yet there were times when I felt that it was Amy’s personality traits that made it hard for me to connect with her. The book ends with a cliffhanger, there will be a 2nd and 3rd, and I admit that I will read the continuation only for Laura. And give Amy a second chance…

The book is spicy, with several hot steamy scenes 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️. Laura is a sexy character and although her and Amy have their struggles they definitely have an intimate connection.

I started reading this book without a lot of expectations since I had not really paid any attention to the synopsis nor to reviews already posted. Very soon I was so invested in the story that was so much more than I could have anticipated. Amy is such a complex person that you get more and more understanding for and with that you want more and more that she will finally open to emotionally and find the right person to make it possible for her to finally heal her past trauma. Laura is potentially that person but so many mistakes made both by Amy and Laura makes this journey so difficult and, in the end, it is obvious a book two is so needed. This book is highly recommended for readers that love a book with a lot of emotions and complex characters, on top of that the chemistry between Amy and Laura is for sure there if you also like some steam.

I was so fortunate to receive an ARC of this book from the author RA Hunter.

I loved this story so much!! The Many Mistakes of Amy Love worked because it didn’t feel like a romance built out of tropes ... it felt like someone opening their chest and letting you see inside. Amy felt real to me. The way she overthinks, the way she feels everything too loudly, the way she tries to protect herself even while craving connection… it hit home in a way I wasn’t expecting.

The book made me care about her. Not in the “aww she’s sweet” way....it was in the “I want her to be okay because I see her” way.

The romance drew me in because it wasn’t simple. It wasn’t clean. It had the kind of electricity that only exists when two people recognize something in each other they can’t walk away from, even when they should. And yes, the passion was intense, but so were the quieter moments, the fear, the longing, the vulnerability.

What worked for me most was the emotional honesty. Nothing felt fake. Nothing felt forced. Amy’s mental health, her trauma, her desire, her panic, her love ...all of it was written with a tenderness that made it feel real.

The beauty of this book is in its fractures.
In the places Amy breaks, and the places she so desperately wants and needs to heal, and in the way she tries, fails, tries again,
because love is worth trying for.

If you’ve ever felt like too much and not enough
at the exact same time,
this story finds you.
It stays with you.

I am honestly lost for words - so please be prepared for an extremely inarticulate review of an incredible book that will stay with me forever.

I knew I would like this book because the 4 short stories I’ve read by RA. Hunter have been very good, but this book has broken me.

I am so angry that someone could have been treated like this and made to feel it was okay, it’s not. More should have been done to protect Amy Love from ever being in this situation in the first place; but now Amy deserves love, empathy, and support. As much as I wanted Amy to let Laura support her, in the same breath I understand why Amy had to do this for herself.

I was not at all prepared for a book to feel so raw, and make me feel like I couldn’t breathe at times. I completely understand why this book won an award, but I do not understand why it only won one. This author, and her writing deserves a lot more recognition.

Also, I’m with Amy, when did ‘It’s getting late’ become social code for anything other than, I’m tired and need to go to bed, please leave so I can go to bed?!?

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The Many Mistakes of Amy Love feels like it would fit perfectly alongside The L Word—messy, emotional, character-driven, and unapologetically sapphic. If you ever loved watching characters like Alice or Shane make questionable decisions while still somehow keeping you emotionally invested, this book delivers that same energy on the page.

Amy is deeply flawed in a very human way, which makes her instantly relatable. Like The L Word, the story doesn’t shy away from complicated relationships, self-sabotage, or the consequences of bad choices, but it balances that with humor, warmth, and genuine character growth. The emotional beats feel earned, and the interpersonal dynamics have that familiar mix of tension, intimacy, and chaos that made the show so compelling.

It does end on a cliffhanger but that shouldn't put anyone off with book 2 already out.

Heart Rending Realness

RA has written an authentic AuDHD novel which perfectly portrays the feeling of being AuDHD in a neurotypical world. POV's change paragraph to paragraph, presenting a hectic thought process that is extremely relatable.
Setting up the two characters and having them exist in such different worlds of sensory input and interpersonal relationships really makes it all the more frustrating when Amy's trauma causes her to act in certain repeated ways. I see myself in her as I have done the same thing - except I was even worse off afterwards.
The intense thoughts of both FMC's and their friends makes this a fraught relationship with so many ups and downs that the ending is earned with every paragraph. The most bitter-sweet but understandable ending possible for such a pair.

I was enthralled (and frustrated) by the way they were able to mis interpret events and come up with the worst possible explanation - because I've been there too!

Realism in Fiction that cuts way too close to home 😅

Absolutely necessary read for people who want to know how neurodivergence is like

Thank you RA Hunter for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

"The Many Mistakes of Amy Love" by RA Hunter is a brilliantly crafted novel that beautifully explores the complexities of life, love, and personal growth. I was drawn into Amy's world, where her relatable struggles and vibrant personality made me feel like I was right there with her and her friends.

Amy's autism is an integral part of her character and the narrative. It shapes her interactions, perceptions, and the challenges she faces throughout the story. The author presents Amy's experiences with authenticity, shedding light on the unique ways Amy navigates social situations, relationships, and her internal world.

Amy's perspective allows readers to gain insight into the nuances of autism, highlighting both her strengths—such as her attention to detail and passion for specific interests—and her struggles, particularly in understanding social cues and expectations. The portrayal emphasizes the importance of acceptance and understanding, both from others and from within oneself.

The intimate scenes are portrayed with sensitivity and depth. They reflect Amy's unique perspective as someone on the autism spectrum, exploring her feelings about intimacy, consent, and vulnerability. The author navigates these moments with care, ensuring that they are meaningful to the character's development rather than gratuitous.

These scenes serve to highlight Amy's journey toward understanding her own desires and boundaries. They emphasize the importance of communication and trust in relationships, portraying intimacy as a complex blend of emotional connection and physical expression. The nuanced depiction adds layers to Amy's character and her relationships, illustrating her growth and the challenges she faces in navigating romance and sexuality.

Through Amy's journey, the novel celebrates neurodiversity and the rich, complex experiences that come with it. It encourages empathy and challenges stereotypes, showing that while Amy may face certain obstacles, her story is also one of growth, resilience, and self-acceptance. This aspect of the book resonates with many readers, fostering a deeper appreciation for diverse perspectives.

This is a really hard one to rate. There were things I loved about it and things that were tough. I guess I’ll try to work through both here.

If I were going to rate the last quarter, it would be five stars hands down. Even though I don’t love the cliffhanger, I was half expecting something way more tragic, so just the fact that the door is not completely shut is a massive relief. I ripped though the late stages of the book and just could not put it down.

It was the start that I struggled with a lot more. I hate to say this but there were so many homophone swaps that it drove me a little batty. But really what I struggled with was Amy. I know it was completely within her character to act the way she did with Laura, and by the end, I knew why. I can’t begrudge her the way things went down, because it’s who she is, and there’s nothing wrong about it! In fact I wanted to throttle her friends for what they said at the Life Ball, for not better supporting her in who she was. It’s like they gave up on her! What a crappy thing to do. (And you know, if I’m griping like that, it’s because I care. Also, to his credit, Jamie eventually realizes his error.)

Anyway. The problem is, I can tell myself that all day long, but at the same time, it’s really hard to read about a character you don’t have any feelings for, and for much of the story when Amy just stone cold refuses to reveal anything about herself or her feelings, she’s just a hard character to empathize with. I kept reading through it but I just wasn’t hooked like I was toward the end, when she was much more sympathetic. When the homophones actually bother me, I guess, I know for sure I’m not swept up in the story?

On the other hand, I sympathized with Laura 110%, the entire way. Every single bit. So there’s that.

Normally I’d say I wouldn’t want to suffer through the first bit to reread this and get to the second bit, but let’s be honest, when the next book comes out I’m totally going to reread this. Maybe with more to Amy’s story, the first part of this will become a relatively smaller portion of it, and I’ll bump up my rating then. I look forward to that time. :)

I loved The Many Mistakes of Amy Love and didn’t want it to end. Halfway through I was like “please don’t let this book be over anytime soon,” and I tried to read it slowly and savor it. That didn’t happen though. I couldn’t put this book down! The characters were so well written and likable even with their flaws. The flaws made them more believable.

I really appreciated the autistic representation in this book and could relate to Amy’s quirks. In addition to being autistic, Amy also has some past trauma she hasn’t dealt with. This makes it difficult for her to have lasting relationships. She mentions past relationships that weren’t always good for her but doesn’t get into them too deeply. She does mention she dated someone for two years and had never brought them back to her place. That’s what makes Laura different.

Laura is outgoing, sexy, and sweet. She meets Amy at a big queer holiday party. Amy comes to her rescue when Laura is being uncomfortably hit on by a man. Laura is a fan of hookups and quickly invites Amy to go home with her. Amy declines at this time and Laura goes home with someone else. But this is just the beginning for them.

They had exchanged numbers at the party and Laura decides to reach out to Amy during the holiday break when she has the apartment to herself. Amy agrees to meet up with Laura at a bar for drinks. Soon they are meeting up and hooking up frequently. Amy even invites Laura back to her apartment on one occasion, which is a huge deal for her. The spice was really well written and there was plenty of it.

The struggle is real with Amy as she doesn’t want to come out as autistic. But the masking and difficulty with communication doesn’t make it easy for her. This book was heartbreaking but also hopeful. There will be a book two and I can’t wait.

The Many Mistakes of Amy Love is a beautifully written sapphic story. Honestly, the book is a little outside of what I generally gravitate towards but I absolutely enjoyed it.

I found myself drawn to Amy for a multitude of reasons besides the British accent. With Amy, I can relate heavily to her masking and having to almost become a different person to survive social settings. As well as being in a small queer community where the opinions of others form very quickly based on past experiences. It is quite clear what the others see and view Amy as without knowing her beyond what is shared. Throughout the story, you can see the complexities of her character and why she responds in certain ways.

While Amy and Laura’s relationship (or situationship?) is the main focus, I have to say that I love all their other respective friendships. Both Jamie and Zoey not holding back their honesty is so realistic. Our closest friends and found family usually are unafraid to speak up or call someone out, while still respecting boundaries. I also love how diverse all of the characters are. So much representation, it filled my heart.

The Many Mistakes of Amy Love has many spicy parts, so if you’re not into that then you should probably skip reading this. But let me tell you, they were hella good. I died every time Amy said princess.

Overall, it was a really good read and I’m excited to see what comes next. I did want to throw my phone across the room when I got to the end though. Also big thanks to RA for my first ARC and congratulations on your debut!

‘She was filled with anxiety; she was, in her defense, always filled with anxiety.’

i’ve had this on my list for a long time, but i applied for an ARC for book 2 and got it! so i immediately got this one so that i could start from the beginning (even though technically you don’t have to, as they’re interconnected standalones)

this book absolutely destroyed me. it has good bad autistic representation (i hope you understand this) that i wish i could say i didn’t relate to, but honestly the truth is that being traumatised and autistic while trying to totally mask it all CAN cause you to be a total shithead to people and really ruin your relationships.

i know there are people who read this and are frustrated with Amy and how she handled it all, but life doesn’t really work the way it does in most lighthearted romance books where everyone is healed by the end and it all works out. it was really refreshing to me to see this realistic representation of how sometimes it’s just not the right time.

honestly, this book spoke to my soul and every tear shed was totally worth it. and wow, you’re really gonna want to read the whole series after the ending. (The Many Mistakes of Laura Miller comes out this year!)

This book could also be called
"The Mystery called Amy Love".
This character really challenged me.
I quickly took a liking to Amy's personality. She is also unaware of her attractiveness and is socially awkward.
You can imagine that she is on the spectrum.
This is mentioned quite late in the story, but that is not the decisive factor.
First she is Laura's heroine and then the way she behaves towards her is really not cool.
Accordingly, the super quick sympathy evaporated and doubts arose.
You understand Amy better and better as the book progresses, but the huge mistakes she makes make it difficult again and again.
Her past and her traumatic experiences are a mystery for a long time and I think and hope book two will rule that out. Laura and Amy together are dynamite!!
Extremely hot and so good, but after that everything is always a desert of ice.
Really ambivalent and now comes the cliffhanger 😩
I don't want it to end like this.
I need book two very quickly, please!
So, if you like things to be difficult with actually very likeable characters but with a few obstacles, then this is the right story for you.
Thanks to the Author RA Hunter for the ARC!!

"The Many Mistakes of Amy Love" is a moving, compulsively readable story that digs deep into the complexities of self-acceptance, trauma, love, and identity.

Thank you, RA Hunter, for the chance to experience this story early. It’s a rare gift to encounter characters whose lived experiences resonate deeply with my own journey. I’m grateful for Amy’s story and eagerly await where her path will lead next.
