I never meant to end up in Hiraeth. But when your life is measured in weeks instead of years, you’ll chase hope anywhere. Even into a realm on the brink of ruin.
Within the shadowed halls of the House of Bruin, seven beast princes vowed to find my cure, their oath heavy with the weight of an untold destiny. But nothing is as it seems in Hiraeth. The King is dead. A treacherous steward has tightened his grip on the throne, turning the once-vibrant kingdom into a land of fear and fractured loyalties. Whispers of rebellion, betrayal, and a strange illness plague the countryside.
Caught in the crosshairs of political treason and forbidden desire, I find myself at the heart of a budding revolution. The princes vow to protect me, but their secrets run as deep as the shadows in this land. And my heart betrays me every time I meet one of their lingering stares.
As my connection to the princes deepens, so does the weight of my choices. But one thing is an ancient prophecy binds my fate to the kingdom’s survival. And to save one, I may have to sacrifice the other.
Hiraeth isn’t just a place—it’s a test. A test of my will to survive, my courage to fight, and my heart to love. Every step forward pulls me deeper into the chaos, and the cure I came for feels farther and farther away.
Only one truth The greatest risks often lead to the most extraordinary triumphs.
T. S. Kinley is a passion project created by two sisters with a shared obsession and vision. We came together with the dream of creating something beautiful, imaginative, and yes… SEXY.
Once upon a Time… it all began with sisterly gossip about erotica and romance novels. Our conversations quickly became fantasies about our own desires to author such work. We would muse how someday in a utopian future, our fantasy would become reality. Ultimately we decided rather than wait for the future to find us, we would create utopia ourselves. Using our love of books, natural gift of creativity, and some savvy study on publishing itself, the concept for our very first book was born.
We started off as a Cosmetologist and an RN, and quickly developed into a dynamic writing team with a style that lends a unique perspective to our books. Second To The Right; book one of The Neverland Chronicles is a reverse harem erotic continuation on the beloved classic telling of Peter Pan.
Im going to start this off by saying if you have NOT read any of the Neverland Chronicles by T.S. Kinley, you are going to want to start there. In my opinion, even though this is a new series and technically can be read as a standalone, Mic's story doesn't really start here. You will learn more about her from reading Gwen's story first. I feel that if you were to just begin reading this book, you might get confused. I even had to grab the last book to refresh my memory on some things.
With that said, A Rift In The House of Bruin starts up where we left off with Mic in Queen of the Lost Boys. She said her goodbyes to Gwen and Lucius and stepped through the portal to Hiraeth to her new life with the Bruin brothers. Right from the beginning, there is drama, which leads to others trying to overtake the throne. The princes and Mic must form a plan to take back what belongs to the Bruin's. But it's not that easy. They are going to need help if they are going to succeed. Still fighting sickness and looking for a cure, Mic has to come to terms with what she is to become for the brothers and find a way to help them and herself before it's all too late.
There is heartbreak, betrayal, sacrifices, lust, love, and rebellion.
Will they succeed in the end? Will Mic be able to find a cure and live her happily ever after? .....
who f*cking knows, because we were left on a damn "To Be Continued" cliffhanger. 😆 but man, oh man, am i hooked and ready to read the next! T.S. Kinley... you got me... AGAIN. I beg you, please don't keep us waiting too long for book two!
Character development ?? Who needs it !? Jesus Christ , I felt like I had missed reading an entire other book trying to muddle my way through this one.
Oh how I loved this book!!! Like other reviews have stated, you should read the Neverland Chronicles first. It will help give you the background and set this book up. But I am here for the story!! I need the next book asap.
I reserved an ARC copy of this book: She did it again! Another amazing book. The only reason it took me a few days was because of my kids but when I tell you I am chomping at the bit for the next book I mean it. I need to know what happens. There are so many questions I need answered. Those last few chapters had me on the edge of my seat ( *insert finger snaps🫰) 10/10
T.S. Kinley you both have done it again — another absolutely AMAZING book! Magical, mystery, spicy — had everything I needed right now.
I have been waiting patiently for Mic’s story for what feels like forever. Reading the Neverland Chronicles you meet Mic but the bulk of her story is off the page. Let’s just say, it was worth the wait. Now I need the next book.
A Rift in the House of Bruin eARC Finished in 1 day — July 6 4.5/5 ✨
I had a complicated time with A Rift in the House of Bruin.
Things definitely happen in this book, but I was rarely convinced why any of it actually mattered. Plot points came and went like guests at a party who never introduced themselves. The biggest issue for me was Mic. She commits hard and fast with absolutely no growth. That was the hardest thing to swallow, and not in a fun way. She does not feel like a character making choices so much as a character being swept along by fate without a single reflective thought in her head. Not submissive exactly, because she does pursue them at times, but instantly accepting that seven brothers are her destiny and that is that. No questioning. No resistance. Just “guess this is my life now” energy. It felt less like love and more like magical compulsion. Destiny doing all the heavy lifting while Mic just lies back and lets it happen.
The brothers themselves were easy enough to tell apart, which I genuinely appreciated, but none of them actually develop. They arrive pre assembled, carved from stone, generously endowed in every sense the book cares about, with their personalities locked in place from page one. Gorgeous packaging, zero expansion.
Jase, however, was the clear standout. Walking red flag, absolutely, but also the most interesting, the most charged, and the one with the most potential for real character development. He had the best chemistry, the most tension, and frankly brought the heat. Which makes it all the more frustrating that the book does not really capitalize on him beyond that. All that potential and no follow through. A recurring theme.
I also wish I had known this book connects to another series beforehand. Apparently Mic met the brothers in Neverland, which might have helped me believe literally anything about her devotion. Instead, she arrives at Hiraeth and suddenly realizes she loves them all. Not slowly. Not meaningfully. Just instantly. Like a switch flipped and stayed flipped. Emotional foreplay skipped entirely.
Now let’s talk expectations. If I pick up a book about seven shapeshifting brothers all romantically involved with one woman, I expect commitment. All in. No pulling out early. Instead, the book was surprisingly tame. Only four of the seven are involved in that way, which felt like ordering a full feast and being served a tasting menu. I did not come here for restraint. If you are going to open that particular door, I expect you to walk all the way through it, not hover awkwardly in the doorway.
That said, I will give the book credit where it is due. There is an actual plot, which already puts it ahead of many books in this genre. The intimate scenes are varied enough that I did not get bored, which is rare. One of my biggest issues with romance and smut is rereading the same scene with the same couple over and over, like yes, thank you, I understand the mechanics. Here, because the entire premise is how on earth this situation might function, every scene at least feels new and enticing. Fresh partners, fresh dynamics, fresh complications.
And somehow, against all odds, the relationship feels more viable than many similar books. Still questionable. Still toeing some very strange lines. But not immediately doomed by nonstop emotional nonsense. Which, frankly, feels like a small miracle.
Overall, this was entertaining but thin. The writing is basic, the characters are flat, and Mic’s lack of internal growth really dragged the story down for me. I will probably keep reading out of curiosity and stubborn hope that later books lean harder into character development and actually commit to the premise.
From The Neverland Chronicles to Hooks Saga and now The Hiraeth Chronicles is an adventure that is so hard to leave. Mic has followed her bear shifters into Hiraeth in search for a healer. What she discovers during their mindblowing, intense and ever so survivability quest is daunting and full of questions. Yet, the answers embedded had me at the edge of my seat.
Throughout this book I gasped, cried, swooned, laughed myself to tears and also kept trying to figure out what was happening as situations unfolded. The spice is delicious and I absolutely love seeing Mic evolve. Amos has to be my absolute favorite side character in this one. I am excited to see what happens next.
This book does have topics that may cause triggers so please read the content warnings. ✨️📚✨️
THANK YOU TS KINLEY for continuing to allow me to receive ARCs for your books.
I have been dying to read about Micaela’s story ever since I finished the Neverland Chronicles and it did not disappoint.
a rift in the house of bruin is a why choose, bear shifter, dark romance book series. the story and the romance move fast. there really is no such thing as slow burn with Mic and her SEVEN (you heard me), beasts.
Micaela is still left in the dark for a lot of this book, so the reader ends up being left in the dark too. but I’m okay with it because it gives me something to look forward to in the next book!
A Rift in the House of Bruin by T.S. Kinley: 4 ⭐️ 3 🌶️ This is a Why Choose Romantasy retelling of beauty and the beast/robin hood. Check triggers before reading.
Okay, I liked Gwen’s story with Peter Pan, the lost boys and Captain Hook. I LOVE Mic’s story with the Bruin brothers. It had me hooked from the beginning to the end. My emotions were all over the place. There is loss, betrayal, love, fighting for what is right! And that ending. That ending you guys! I need the next book. I need to know we won’t lose anyone else. I loved Mic’s character development in this book. She just gets stronger and stronger and proves that life is worth fighting for even though there were times she accepted the possibility of death.
The only thing I felt was negative was the time line went fast in the book, so I felt we were missing a bit of the relationship development between Mic and the brothers.
This book did not disappoint! Just like all their other books! This story takes u on a roller coaster from heart wrenching to inlove with it all and the spice 🔥🌶️ is on fire! The ending ends on a wild cliffhanger just hoping the second book was out already so so good highly recommend this book
Oh. My. Goodness. I finished A Rift in the House of Bruin ARC and my heart is left shattered by that ending. But like, WOAH, I need the next book ASAP cause how am I supposed to sit and not think about what could happen next after that cliffhanger?!
The story follows Michaela, descendent of the original Wendy Darling as she journeyed through the magical mirror from Neverland to the land of Hiraeth to follow the brothers Bruin in search of a healer and possibly her own happily ever after. However, she finds herself immersed in a land of turmoil, a kingdom on the verge of ruin, ancient prophecies and fated mates beyond her wildest dreams.
I am absolutely loving Mic's storyline so far. I am intrigued at her character evolution and am excited to see how it will continue to change in the next book. As a cancer survivor, I can resonate with some of her feelings - the uncertainty, the fear and the grappling with your own mortality. And I absolutely love how it's been written what is a sickness in the human world is just a magical tribulation to overcome in this fantasy realm. Because there is magic in all of us, if only you learn how to harness it.
I honestly can't decide which brother is my favourite. The banter, the yearning, the laughter, the love, each brother's qualities shine through in different scenarios and circumstances. And the sexy time with each was so hot and unique to each man. But I think I like Luca best. No wait, Finn? Maybe Nico? Gunner? Hunter? Lucius? Jace....maybe, maybe not. Regardless, I want more!!!
I'm also *not so* secretly hoping for a crossover appearance with Gwen and all her boys in book 2.
A Rift in the House of Bruin was epic. I was completely hooked from the very beginning and couldn’t put it down. The story was gripping, emotional, and beautifully written – every chapter pulled me deeper into the chaos and heartache of this fractured family.
Gunner completely wrecked me. His sacrifice for Michaela was one of the most powerful and emotional moments in the book. His quiet strength, loyalty, and willingness to give everything for her… I was shattered. He was a standout character – unforgettable in the best (and worst) way.
Then there’s Jace. I had such a love-hate relationship with him throughout the story. At times I wanted to shake him, and other times I was absolutely rooting for him. In the end, his realisation that he had been manipulated—and that he’d supported the wrong person—hit hard. But his love for Michaela? It was everything. That emotional shift, that moment of clarity, made his journey feel so raw and real.
The entire cast was layered, flawed, and human. The tension was intense, the emotion was real, and the storytelling was absolutely masterful. This book had everything I love – depth, drama, heartbreak, redemption, and characters that leave a lasting mark. How could you end it there? I need book 2 now!
5 stars from me. A Rift in the House of Bruin is one of those stories that lingers long after the last page. Completely unforgettable.
I had high hopes for this one, I read the Gwen trilogy earlier in the year and had a great time with it. I liked Michaela's character in Gwen's story and her connection to the bear-shifters seemed to hold big potential for a very fun read. It was not..
To be fair, it is still a book that you can read very quickly and let yourself be absorbed by, but I found the characters to be a bit pale, you didn't really get a chance to know them better before the story unfolds and everything happens super quickly. Too little tension build-up before the release (much like the sex scenes). Except with Lucius there was little to no real connection between Michaela and the brothers. The inexplicable insta-love they just feel because of their fated bond was not enough to get me invested in their relationships.
All in all, it read like a not as good copy of Gwen's story, which is too bad, because it could have been more.
SPOILER ALERT: I am also not a big fan of the "attempted rape and getting saved at the last minute" trope, it's overused in my opinion and a cheap way to create tension. And the "mate chase"? I mean, come on, the women literally get chased down in the dark like prey and it's supposed to be a fun activity? To each their own, I guess, but it felt a bit icky to me. I personally preferred the more equal power dynamics between Gwen and the lost boys in Neverland.
I'm not gonna lie, this book took me some time to read - only because insomnia flared, concentration waned, and reading took a back seat to the resulting effects on my mental and physical health.
I came back to this read... (I'd only read about 5 chapters and I was feral for more.... More information, more myth, more legend, more magic, and more of the immersion we got with the Neverland Chronicles....) By the Divine, it delivered!
Mic is our FMC, briefly introduced in the Neverland Chronicles, and she disappears to Hiraeth at the end of Gwen's story. We pick back up with Mic shortly after she arrives and we meet the 7 Bruin brothers. We follow Mic in her quest to find a cure for her illness and witness the absolute carnage that she finds herself planted squarely in the middle of as the throne is contested, fated mate bonds are resisted...
I am absolutely here for this book, and I'm sorry it took so long to read this ARC that the actual release has already been and gone.... But I 100% recommend it, but enter this with an open mind as your mental health matters! I cannot wait for book 2!
Thank you to the Kinley sisters who've created this world, these characters, and these stories!
I am not ok...My rating honestly keeps bouncing between 4 stars to 5 stars, so I am gonna settle for a 4.5 stars with a 2.5 spicy rating. Also, for those that are worried, yes there are multiple partners but no incest.
I have read all of T.S. Kinley's other books and absolutely loved them! This one is different in the sense that while I devoured this book as quickly as I could, I hated how this book made me feel! I fell for these characters in the Neverland Chronicles and then continued to feel for them in this book, and the plot just chewed me up and spat me back out, in the best way possible.
Michaela grew up in London, as a great-granddaughter of Wendy, with cancer, only to find out via her sister and the Lost Boys that her cancer was actually magic manifesting itself in her and making her sick. She then chooses to follow her sister back to Neverland and embrace her new destiny, only to be transported to Hiraeth with the Seven Bear Princes right in the middle of a possible civil war.
I was giggling at the banter, blushing at the spice, and crying at the plot twists! Would I recommend this book? Yes but I should I have waited until the second book came out because that cliffhanger! Damn!
This was excellent! It’s giving beast of the briar vibes but in the best way. I love a well-done shifter romantasy and this does an incredible job.
The plot is incredible, lots going on at all times. The FMC is battling cancer and has the help of the MMCs to help her feel better and try to find a healer to cure her. She is kind, funny and empathetic. Very easy to root for her and you definitely want her to bond with the brothers. You can tell how much she cares for each of them; even when some may not treat her the best.
The bad guy is super well done, he definitely makes an excellent villain that you love to hate.
The brothers are such amazing characters. It’s evident they each have trauma that they’re trying to work through while still being there for each other and trying to work together as a team to reach their goals. The interpersonal relationships with the brothers are complex and you don’t always know what they will do next. You can clearly see the love they have for each other and for most of them, the love they have for the FMC.
That cliffhanger was criminal. I can’t wait to see where they’re going with this and am super excited for the next book.
T.S Kingsley you’ve done it again, I was upset in the first 3 chapters. I can’t believe he’s truly gone, however the story kicks off from where we left off in the Queen of the lost boys. Mic has left Neverland and her sister in peruse of a cure for her ‘sickness’ when arriving at the castle with her new found companions things aren’t as they seem, betrayal hits hard.
Mic and her companions must seek help in overthrowing a traitor and in doing so they all start to understand there is more to Mic being a human, does she have a role to play or will Mic be there downfall?
The ending left on a cliff hanger, ‘to be continued’ I was not ok I think I just stared at my kindle for a while to understand what I had just read, T.S Kingsley does a why choose troupe better than anyone I’ve read.
If you haven’t read the Neverland Chronicles then I highly suggest you read them before this book, you’ll under what Mic is better.
An amazing beginning to another fantasy romance journey by T.S. Kinley. One of my favorite fantasy romance series ever was The Neverland Chronicles by her so I absolutely have been dying for this spin-off. First off, I highly recommend checking that series out before starting this one but it could be read alone I suppose but why not start there? You won't regret it. This story revolves around a young woman named Michaela. She hasn't lived the easiest life due to an illness but when her sister ends up in Neverland she decides to follow hoping that there was a cure in the fantasy world. Life decided to give her an even bigger destiny than she could ever imagine there. She never thought she would find love but it was a surprise and just wait until you meet her mates. I don't want to spoil anything more though. T.S. Kinley you did an amazing job sucking me into another fictional series to obsess about. it was a 5 star read for sure. I can not wait for the next book.
I really wanted to like this book but I just couldn’t. I have been absolutely feral for T.S. Kinley for a while but this book sadly, like really sadly didn’t do it for me at all. I found there was a lack of world building. The instant love connection with little to no information about the reining princes really made their connection feel fake and not genuine. I love the fighting, battles and gore. The writing itself is great but this story line with weak Michaela, as a FMC she was lacking. Like there is NOTHING TO HER. I wanted so much more from all of it. Did I hate it no, but my hopes were just too high for this one. All the potentially good characters seem to die, and even if they somehow come back that wouldn’t redeem how I feel about this book.
As always with all T.S. Kinley’s books, I devoured this book. I was immediately whisked away to a new land and felt like Alice stepping through the looking glass. The emotional rollercoaster was a ride definitely worth taking. The challenges the FMC faced were everything that makes books worth reading. I had just the right amount of why choose spice and was done in a way that made sense. The battles had me on edge and the heartbreak is still felt long after finishing. This book left me hungry for more and I can’t wait for the next one. For all my fans of Beauty and the Beast, you get 7 beasts in this one!!!
I received an ARC in exchange for a honest review.
Man oh man, this story did not disappoint. I first read about Mic and her sevens beastly princes in The Neverland Chronicles by T.S. Kinley. I was already intrigued when it seemed like Lucius was enamored with Mic, come to find out they are fated 😍. I love all the princes and how different each of them are. There’s love, betrayal, lust, friendship, and a rebellion. Even though it took me a lot longer than normal to read the story due to prior engagements, it was always on my mind and I kept wanting to read it during any downtime.
Sucks that there’s a cliffhanger though. I can’t wait until the next one!!
I have been waiting to read Mic’s story since I read the Neverland Chronicles and this book was definitely worth the wait! I love love love the world building, the relationships between Mic and the princes, the bonds they are building. This story has love and war and all the good stuff and I couldn’t put it down. That ending absolutely wrecked my soul though, I cannot wait for the next book. Also Fuck Johan. Can’t wait to see how Mic and the princes solve this next problem, and hopefully she learns how to use her magic.
Fantasy Romance at its finest! I've been waiting for Michaela's story since the end of Queen of the Lost Boys, and I can tell you I was not disappointed. Her story so far is spice filled and action-packed. Mic never thought she would fall in love or, much less, have a future, but the Divine definitely has different plans for her in the form of 7 bear shifter princes. Welcome to Hiraeth! I don't want to give too much away. So before starting here, start at the beginning with The Neverland Chronicles !
This book absolute WRECKED me in all the best ways. I was completely invested in the harrowing journey of these, and couldn't turn pages fast enough to find out what hairbrush next. If you're looking for broody book boyfriends, who will do ANYTHING to protect the one they can't live without, look no further. An absolute must read that will have you laughing, crying, swooning, and clinging to the cliff we are left on. This first installment of what promises to be an amazing series, deserves alllll the stars in the sky!
Umm excuse me ladies, but I do not remember signing up to get my heart ripped out, stomped upon, & mended just for you to keep doing it over and over. What a cruel and beautiful world you have created for us. I am a huge fan of the Neverland Chronicles so reading Michaela's story was a must. I honestly do not know how to write this review without spoilers. Michaela and her Beasts will take you on a journey you are unprepared for. I cannot wait for book 2 because I have so many questions. Gwen & her Lost Boys have some stiff competition for first place in my heart
I read The Neverland Chronicles so I was excited to dive into A Rift In The House of Bruin and I’m glad I did.
Overall I really enjoyed it. I would have liked more character/relationship building on page. I didn’t finish the book feeling like I knew any of them enough to pick the ones I’m drawn to the most or that are my favorite. I look forward to the next book so we can get to know the characters more.
No spoilers but I was surprised at the end and hope something can change that outcome…
As someone who read your Neverland chronicles because Peter Pan is one of my all time favorites for retellings, this book took that and expanded on the other places inside that world! I wish we had gotten to see Michaela really grow in this but I hate to say she is weak… and I really want that for her in future books because she DESERVES IT and you cannot convince me otherwise. Her 7 men are absolutely 👏🏼👏🏼 and I love that for her. I can’t wait to see what’s next with that cliffhanger you left us on….
I devoured this book! I was waiting for this story to be told since I first found the Neverland Chronicles and it did not disappoint. I love reading these books because it pulls you along with the character’s journey. I’m left on the edge of my seat wondering how this story will continue next. This book does contain some spicy scenes but they don’t overwhelm the over plot of the book but add to it. I can’t wait for the next one!
The story we’ve all been waiting for! I’ve wanted Mic to have a HEA since meeting her in The Neverland Chronicles! Right from the start this book had me GLUED to the pages, i couldn’t read fast enough!!! I’m a sucker for why choose and what’s better than 7 ?! The twists, turns, betrayals 🥹 i was ready to jump in and fight alongside Mic. This ending ?! this cliffhanger?! Excuse me while I lose my mind until the next installment ..
