As one of the youngest Bonifays, Rebecca suffered the most when her parents died, but with the strength of her close-knit Texas family behind her, she came through it and now helps run the Bonifay ranch and her own horse rescue operation. She’s also matured into a sexy and beautiful woman with an itch that needs scratching. Setting her sights on Jesse English, the dark cowboy who’s recuperating at the ranch, Rebecca decides it’s time to stop letting her older siblings call the shots and start taking charge of her own desires.
Jesse is a drifter through and through. Orphaned at a young age, he’s seen the worst of state care and foster homes, and he knows better than to put down roots in any one place for long. Scarred by his drug-addled father, he knows he’s not good-looking enough for a woman like Rebecca, and with nothing to offer her, he just wants to get healthy at the ranch and move on before he gets hurt again.
As Jesse begins to heal and Rebecca makes it more than clear that she wants the moody and ruggedly handsome cowboy to be her first, he has to fight every impulse he has as a man to keep her at a distance. But there’s no denying the headstrong beauty or the raging passion building between them, and as the two struggle with their conflicting needs they discover a stronger connection that just might give them both the chance to mend their damaged hearts.
I read this book over a week ago before I got sick so I feel like I'm doing a bit of an injustice reviewing it now when the story isn't still fresh in my mind. Nevertheless, a review must be written seeing as I picked this one up from Netgalley and I really would like to get my read/review rating up a lot higher than what it is.
As you can tell from my shelves, I didn't think very much of this book. And to be honest, struggling to remember this book after having only finished it ten days ago, doesn't really suggest that it was a memorable read either.
Runaway Cowboy is your typical romance. Strong female gets involved with the rugged cowboy but rugged cowboy feels unworthy and so he runs away and only true tragedy brings these two lovers back together. Whilst it was fairly predictable, I did enjoy reading about the female mc's rescue mission of abused horses. I found that the most interesting part of the book (not to mention the surprisingly steamy sex). What I didn't enjoy was the unnecessary drama throughout the book. Here's where my two main gripes with this book comes from: 1) Ladies, if you're looking to let loose with the first cowboy that comes along, hoping to use him as a stud because he's older and has more experience, then put your big girl panties on and don't get them twisted when he uses you back for his own pleasure. 2) Honestly, for me, the sign of a true man is someone who fights for what he wants. Yeah you might not be worthy, but hell, fight for it, especially if its something that you really want. All this woe-is-me attitude is getting you nowhere in life.
As a side note, I was hella confused about this being the second book in the series. I read the synopsis for the first book and it looks like it occurs several years after this book, so I reckon you could read this one as a standalone.
Would you recommend this book? Not really. It was an OK read for the most part. I think if the author had fleshed things out a little more and had her hero acting less like a negative nancy, it would have made for a better read.
I don't read a lot of cowboy H's outside of Lorelei James' McKay clan, so I really didn't know what made me click the read-now button on Netgalley for this one. But I'm glad I did.
The story is simple, about an orphaned cowgirl and a broken cowboy. She's young but doesn't act young. He's the opposite of the bajillionaires I normally gravitate towards but I thought Ms. Cole did a good job making me see why she would fall for him despite his insecurities, forget about his past. You see them go about their regular lives in a ranch. And their chemistry felt real. I want to say their feelings were simple but when are feelings ever simple? I think it's just because it didn't have the excessive angst that I've gotten used to with some of these romance reads.
The dialogues that normally would feel stilted to me have enough sincerity to them that I actually found myself enjoying them over the course of the book. And surprisingly, this city chick actually enjoyed reading about details of ranch stuff that I have no clue about whatsoever. I thought the pop culture references were cute. For whatever reason, this has a nice cozy Americana feel to it, if that makes sense.
Overall, I say it's a nice sweet quick read with enough heat...
A sassy southern heroine, a wounded inside & out hero & some tangled & burnt sheets romance!
Rebecca Bonifay is from a big, meddlesome & loveable family, but she has always felt responsible for her parents' death. Thanks to her brother-in-law. Don, help, she channels all her guilt to rescuing abused horses & has become the local horse whisper. She has always been a good girl & is so ready to cash in her "V" check, so she is scoping out the cowboys at the Ranch Rodeo!
Jesse English is scarred inside & across his face & has been the unwanted boy thought out his childhood by the state. Folks only seem to want him for the state check & as free labor, but he did learn about all things cowboy. Now he is over 30, has a busted up ankle, beat up body, itsy bitsy bank account & a last chance at the Ranch Rodeo to prove to his boss that he is not past his prime.
Rebecca is cornered by her cheating ex, but this voice, that could & does melt her panties, tells Grady to back off & then when push comes to shove, Jesse finds himself throwing & dodging punches for a woman's honor. Soon Rebecca's baby brother, Benny, breaks it up & comes to find out that he & Jesse are old friends. Rebecca is in awe of this cowboy with the scar running across his face & Jesse is admiring the cut of her a$$ in those jeans, but she is his friend's sister, so can you say FORBIDDEN FRUIT SYNDROME! When he goes to ride his bronco, he injured & when he is out cold, loses his ranch job to Benny & fostered off as the unwanted to Benny's sister, Miss Fabulous A$$. Rebecca has a horse rescue business & that is where crutch using Jesse finds himself holding a shotgun on a evil man who has attacked Rebecca. He learns in that moments that she needs a caretaker because she leaps & then looks.
Thus begins the role reversal as Jesse feeds her real food & not Lean Cruise & she plowing the fields, cares for her injured horses & is all around cowgirl. Soon the living under the same roof makes Rebecca use her shower head for satisfaction because Jesse keeps getting her all hot & dripping, but backs off, so what's a girl to do but seduce! Jesse wants Rebecca, but he is just white trash & not good enough for Rebecca, but she keeps melting in his arms & soon he can't resist her tempting body, so his manly parts meets & greets her girlie parts. As soon as he realizes he is in love, Rebecca confesses her love, too, but he pulls such a male move & flees! Will Jesse ever fell he is worthy of love? Can Rebecca's love be a balm to his scarred heart? How will the meddling Bonifay help or hinder? Please could I have 5 minutes alone with Grady to beotch slap him into reality?
This is my 1st romance by Ms. Cole & she weaves her story with humor galore, a great & meddling family & yummy chaps wearing Cowboys, so what's not to love! Rebecca was a sassy southern girl with spunkiness who would do all for her family, but she was so ready to free her BAD GIRL & never look back. Now Jesse was my favorite character of this tale because he was a walking & talking unwanted boy who just needed some unconditional love. I have never quoted a book in a review before, but this quote says it all about Jesse.
"What could he bring to the table other than his love of Rebecca?"
Does Ms. Cole know how to write a unwanted & wounded little boy or what? Ms. Cole threw little, what I like to call unexpected moments, like how Rebecca watches Downtown Abbey & introduces Jesse to modern entertainment called the TV! The Bonifays clan was a family that survived their parents death, but it only made them stronger than before. Ms. Cole gifted great snap, crackle & sizzle scenes with sent shivers down my spine & almost made my bone marrow liquefied. The h/h were wounded souls that needed some unconditional love & Ms. Cole gave them each other, but they both went kicking & screaming trying to fight it. All that inner fighting, layers being slowly peeled back & unexpected moments made this romance earn my score of 3 fingers up & 7 toes & I can't wait to read more of the Bonifay's romances.
I received this book free from Net Galley in exchange for my honest reveiw.
Runaway Cowboy by Keira Cole is a great cowboy romance that features a guy from “the wrong side of the tracks” and the girl who loved him. It is Jesse and Rebecca’s story. I enjoyed reading Runaway Cowboy a lot. This is the first book by this author that I have read and I would like to read more books by her. Runaway Cowboy is also the second installment in the Bonifay Family series and I would love to read the rest of the books in the series.
Rebecca was devastated when her and her siblings lost their parents to a car accident. She had a hard time moving past it but was able to get to a point where she was a functioning part of their ranch. She runs a horse rescue business and has found her niche in their family and community. When her ex confronts her she is “rescued” by Jesse and she knows right away that there is something about him. She is drawn to him and she is determined to win his affections over. When he gets hurt her and her family offers him a place to recuperate. During that time they spend more time together and they have chemistry but he is always pulling back from her. She will do just about anything to draw him out of his shell and make him hers. When he finally agrees he makes sure she knows that there are no strings attached and that he plans on leaving eventually. She is ok with that until the time for him to leave comes. She knows that she has lost her heart to him the only question is will she end up regretting it? Or will she be able to rope his heart as well?
Jesse lives a free life he comes and goes as he pleases and he never stays put anywhere. He doesn’t want to get too attached to anyone. When he ends up getting injured and staying at the Bonifay’s ranch it is clear to him that Rebecca wants him but he knows that is not a good idea for more than one reason. For one she is his boss and that is never a good thing. Secondly he doesn’t plan on staying so he doesn’t want there to be any hard feelings. And on top of that he is scared and damaged goods and he doesn’t feel that he is a good match for her. The more she is around the harder it is to resist her. His attempts to discourage her have not worked at all. He knows that he isn’t the relationship type of guy but he can’t resist her pull. He agrees to a causal relationship but he still isn’t sure it is a good thing. They enjoy each other’s company and he is really starting to want something more. When she agrees to help a rescue horse that he knows is dangerous he decides it is as good of a time as any other to leave. When he is gone he realizes how much he has come to care for her. Will he continue on his way? Or will he go back to the girl of his dreams?
I enjoyed reading Runaway cowboy. I enjoyed the characters including the secondary ones. I liked the relationship between Rebecca and her siblings. I liked Rebecca’s character because she knew what she wanted and she wasn’t afraid to go for it. I thought that made her a good and strong character. I really liked Jesse and could totally identify with parts of his back story so I feel in love with his character nearly right away. I can understand why he would feel like damaged goods or like he wasn’t worthy for Rebecca on some levels but it did get old after a while. I mean if she loved him for who he was that meant he was good enough for her. Plus sometimes you just have to let go of your past to embrace the future. I would recommend Runaway Cowboy to those who enjoy a good cotemporary cowboy romance.
So, this book is about a southern girl who is being stalked by her money/property hungry ex who cheated on her. It's also about the new man in her life living in the room across from hers, Jesse. Rebecca has had it hard, her parents died when she was 15 and she blamed herself. Her brother has decided to leave to pursue his dreams leaving extra work around the ranch, which Jesse picks up after an accident. Jesse and Rebecca are instantly attracted to each other from the second he kicked her ex boyfriend's (steven) ass for harassing Rebecca. Rebecca takes Jesse in after he has an accident and well the attraction grows.
Overall, I really liked this book. It was funny, country, and a good read. I loved all the characters and I liked the plotline. I didn't realize that this was a second book in the series until after I read this book and went to goodreads to rate it. I couldn't even tell that their was a book before it, but I guess that's because the first book was about a different sibling. I plan on reading the first book, eventually.
Rebecca is a funny, strong-willed yet vulnerable piece of work. I instantly like her from the beginning, though it took me a couple of pages to get interested in the book. The minute that Jesse swooped in I was hooked. Jesse is that tall, dark, stranger that you'll find in any good romance book. After Rebecca's little brother takes his job because he had an accident I expected him to be angry at him but he wasn't. He simply decided to close himself off from everyone else and bid his time until he could get his spot back.
Rebecca has other things in mind. She's determined to break through Jesse's shell and he finds himself telling her things he's never told anyone else. Jesse finds Rebecca refreshing since she isn't worried, repulsed, or afraid of the scar marking his face. He's attracted to her, but she's the little sister of two of his friends, plus he knows that he's just going to end up leaving like he always does. As he sees that Rebecca is more than a tough girl he begins to fall harder, she's sweet and caring. She takes care of animals like she would a human.
Temptation strikes and when Rebecca sees further into Jesse's pass they let all the barriers fall. Rebecca and Jesse both know Jesse's going to leave and they shouldn't get attached, they should just have sex and try not to get too personal. Of course that never works and they find themselves both in love. When Jesse realizes he's in love with Rebecca and viceversa he leaves. They're both heartbroken and try to get the other out of their head, because they're over and there's nothing that can fix that. Right?
BIG SPOILER I was so upset when I found out that Rebecca's brother in law was killed at war, an IED killed him. Luckily, Jesse came back for the funeral, but he knew he wouldn't be able to walk away twice.
RC provided by Beyond the Page Publishing via NetGalley for a fair and honest review (The is sex scenes in this novel are explicit, recommended for 18 and over) I really found this book to be a well written and fun to read. I really like the characters and the amount of time that the author spent building those characters. I did feel that Jesse’s character was portrayed as just a little TOO damaged – but that is just my opinion. I wish the book had been longer so that we could have gotten to know more about the other family members.
I did find it very interesting that a very large part of the book was told from Jesse’s perspective, which is unusual for a romance. Most of the book is written in a current perspective – it doesn’t delve into his background much, while it is doing narration in his mind. That might have been helpful if it had to better understand why he was so damaged. It does go into why he is the way he is, but more detail might have made it more believable for me.
One thing most people will not realize when reading this book is that throughout the South each region has it’s different brand of “slang”…..or sayings. I was not born in the South, but my parents both were born in the area that this book is written in. Now my husband was born and raised in Georgia and he has heard me used quite a few of the different sayings that I learned from my parents and kin and that were used in this book - ones he had never heard before in his life.
At first I thought it was a little strange he hadn’t never heard expressions like “he needed to be taken out behind the barn and shown the what to and what for”, which usually goes along with picking your own switch. That expression wasn’t used in this book, but it is an example how different phrasing will become embedded in different areas of the South. Now the reason I brought that up? Is because Keira Cole hit the nail right on the head with her dialogue and expressions – it reminded me so much of visiting my kin back in Texas it was so unreal. If you pay attention you will notice the most common word uttered in disgust is “bullshit”. My dad never lost his Texas accent and that was a word he used often and he pronounced it “bullsheeet”……..it reminded me of my dad so much!!!!
Now especially funny, there is a remark about Google, that I will not reveal via spoiler, that to me was so funny, that I have committed it to memory. Actually, come to think of it – there were many times while reading this book, I found myself laughing out at the antics and dialog of the characters – especially Jesse’s saying he “learned a long time ago there’s only two theories concerning arguing with a woman and neither one of the works. The way he sees it, you might as well paint your butt white and run with the antelope”.
Received this book courtesy of Beyond the page publishing and Netgally thank you !
Rebecca Bonifay, excited to be at the ranchers rodeo but a little fearful that she may run into her x- boyfriend Grady , she has managed to avoid him for almost a year but at an event such as the ranch rodeo it is going to be hard. Sur enough after leaving her younger brother to prepare for his ride she runs smack Into Grady who gets physical, to spite telling him to back of he backs her into a fence and gets physical, telling him to back of he only makes some more sexual advances, in steps Jesse , who suggest he leave the lad alone, Grady ignores him, that s until Jesse clocks him one or s Jesse explained to the police fixer a little later he may of fell into his fist three or four times! Call me hooked at that point the banter that goes on during this encounter shows that Rebecca is anything but your meek girl and Jesse Is a upstanding hot cowboy, with good hearing a whispered comment about how hot. He sbetween sisters earns Rebecca a whisper and a wink. Jesse excuses himself and goes to prepare for his bronc ride on Dust dad evil, just his luck o draw the meanest horse, when Jesse is hurt and almost killed by dust devil the ranch he is working for signs on rebecca's younger brother Ben to fill his shoes and leaves Jesse with Rebecca to re hab and help out.
The Bonifays area tight knit family and Rebecca , knows better than anyone else Injury an loss , she was in a car with her parents at the age fifteen when a car accident took them and left her alive , blaming herself for their death concerned th family , they thought sh may do harm to herself ,but her brother in law Bud mcKay brought her a horse in need of Rescue , told her I was time to move and to help the animal while doing it, it is hi she cameo be in the horse revue business as well as running the family Ranch with he siblings. Taking Jesse in was similar to takin na injured horse, she just did not expect to fall in love.
Jesse, hada hard childhood orphaned at young age abused by his drug addicted father , has low self esteem and does not consider himself worth being with of agood girl like Rebecca . Rebecca , has different plans, shewants Jesse to be her first and active presses his buttons.
The chemistry between these two is wonderful , the story line of the two of them nursing a abused horse Beauty, Jesse trying to fight his overwhelming attraction for Rebecca and occasional boughsts of jealousy .
I enjoyed this book I had moments of laughter, moments I needed to fan myself, got very hot And explicit on occasion and the author made me cry at the end .I know why she did it, but I hated that she did. No , not giving you this spoiler.
Great book , highly recommend , lookin foward to the next in the series!
For a young woman who had lost her parents living in Texas and managing in a man’s world, Rebecca (Becca) Bonifay was well adjusted. She in fact was feisty, head strong, and had a heart of gold that everyone loved especially men of all ages. She along with her siblings were running the cattle ranch the owned. It’s not huge but well managed and progressive organically grown feed so the cattle eats correctly which yields them higher returns for organic meat. They have a rancher’s rodeo every year and she decided to go this year after all. You see she broke up with her ex Grady about a year ago and he just won’t drop it, he has become somewhat of a stocker. He seems to think he wants her back when really his father wants her back for the investment value to them and what they think they can get their hands on with her property. But she caught him with his JOHNSON in Charlene’s mouth and decided that she did not want used goods. She encounters him at the rodeo and won’t take no for an answer. She is feeling trapped, she is getting ready to punch him when a man steps in the mix to help her. Her ex won’t listen and it’s on. She thinks he is hot and Jesse thinks she’s hot too. After the fight she finds out the name of the man that helped her is Jesse English and he happens to be her little brother’s friend and he is a bull rider. Jesse was a ward of the state that was bounced around to a lot of places so he has always been a drifter but a real good man and a hard worker. He leaves to ride in the rodeo and is injured. So, the people he rides for can’t have that so Bennett, Becca’s brother, has been asked to ride in Jesse’s place for the rest of the circuit. When the circuit came to Bennett he knew he could help his friend and his friend could help him. Bennett ask Jesse to recoup at the ranch and then help the girls out in his place when he heals. He doesn’t like it, but what can he do, it felt like being put out to pasture. I can’t even begin to tell you how much I like this story. This is a family of four sisters Dixie, Rebecca, Daisy, Tammy, and Bennett the only boy and their wonderful bother-in-law Bud who saved Becca’s life when their parents passed away. This story is how two people that have been broken and drifting for a lot of years find each other and start to heal these old wounds without even knowing it. The ending to this story will take you by surprise. You will need tissues is all I can say. It is a happy one but there is a mad twist that will make you sad and cry. 5+ stars. Rebecca Bonifay is the youngest member of the Bonifay clan and runs the ranch and her own horse rescue operation. When Jesse, a cowboy drifter, saves Rebecca from her ex-boyfriend, she wants to repay him. And when Jesse is injured, she just knows that having him recuperate at her farm is just what he needs... and just what she wants. She wants Jesse to be her first but he wants to keep her at bay, which is difficult since they are both working on helping an abused horse recover.
As their passions grow between them, Jesse beings to wonder if he will be able to stick around for Rebecca. After being so damaged in his past, he thinks he isn't worthy of someone like Rebecca. From the beginning, he had told her that he wouldn't be sticking around and that he would leave her one day, hoping against hope that it would guard both their hearts. When he finally does leave, a tragedy strikes. Has Rebecca healed Jesse's heart enough to know that he's the only man for her and that he can be by her side always?
I so wanted to love this book! As someone who does animal rescue (horses and dogs), I could certainly connect with Rebecca on a personal level. But I didn't love this book but I did like it. I really loved seeing Jesse and Rebecca's love grow as they worked together to help a damaged horse gain love and trust of people again. But I felt like something was missing. Rebecca went so quickly from saying, "I want him to be my first" and that's it to being in love with him that I just felt like the development of feelings was missing. It was touched on but never explored. However, I LOVED Jesse. Watching Jesse grow emotionally through his love of horses and his feelings for Rebecca was wonderful to read. Their passions cannot be denied and when they finally come together, its fireworks. Overall, a good read and an author I would like to see more of.
An ARC was provided by NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
Runaway Cowboy by Keira Cole is book two in the Bonifay Family series. I really enjoyed this story, it's probably one of the better cowboy romances I have read in a while. Rebecca Bonifay has no filter between her brain and her mouth. She is mouthy, sassy, and has a soft spot for broken animals. She runs a horse rescue and has had the magic touch when it comes to horses. Jesse English has passed his prime on the rodeo circuit but he isn't will give up so easily, it's the only thing he has with no formal education and spending the majority of his life as a ranch hand and rodeo cowboy he doesn't have much else he can do.
Rebecca use to carry a lot of guilt around with her blaming herself for her parents death, but time passed and she has moved on from the guilt, she now spends her time with her rescue horses and helping with the family ranch. Jesse just needed one more win before he could ease up and stop riding, but what happened was the last thing he needed a sprained ankle and a concussion. Rebecca offers Jesse a place to rest and recuperate and help her around the ranch while her brother is off being a cowboy. Jesse and Rebecca have chemistry, and no matter how much Jesse tries to deny it and convince himself she's to young Rebecca has crawled under his skin and burrowed deep. Rebecca is on the prowl for just a meaningless fling to lose her virginity and Jesse, she thinks, is the perfect person after her sleazy boyfriend cheated on her.
The ex-boyfriend was brought up enough that I thought it would have been more involved in the storyline but he wasn't he showed but only a couple of times then disappeared, I would have liked to see more conflict with him. The story was all about Jesse and Rebecca coming to terms with their relationship and trying not to fall in love with each other. I loved the ending it was a bittersweet ending that makes you cry.
Well first off, this is the first time I have read a cowboy story, but I do love watching western movies. This is the First book I have read that is written by Keira Cole. I do like her style of writing, very easy to follow. I like how she builds the characters and we begin to care for the people in the story. The main story is about Rebecca, she has 3 other sisters and one brother, the brother is going away and he wanted another man there, their parents were killed a few years ago and they have a ranch in Texas to keep going. One of the sisters is married and her husband is leaving to go to the war. So enters Jesse, strong good looking cowboy but with self-esteem issues, he had a poor upbringing. So this is part of his personal issues. He does have a heart and doesn't want to hurt Rebecca. To me the story is good, simple and sweet with some sorrow in it as well. I am not big on the sex part of the story, but the love story is nice, and yes I have to say I skipped the sex scenes. But I really loved the story. I do think the writer could have developed the characters even better, but it is a good start and I hope she writes more about each sibling as I loves stories that have a book for each sibling. I would definitely keep reading the whole series. This book didn’t take me long to read, it was interesting.
I really liked this book and I can't wait for the other books in the series. Jesse I just loved him, "well, sir, this here cowboy was harassing this young lady." He gestured to Rebecca. "I asked him to stop, real polite like, and when he didn't...well, you might say he slipped and fell on my fist...three or four times." It's apparent right off that Jesse has feelings for Becca, "hands wrapped around her biceps, he gave her a shake. "Have you lost your ever-loving mind, woman? That son of a bi*** might have killed you. Hell, he damn near did!" The boy has no luck when it comes to Becca at times, "oh, boy. He'd managed to pi** her off again. Not that he could blame her, after that kiss. Jesus, he'd practically climbed down her throat and took up residence inside her." He can be a real piece of work when he wants to be, but honestly I find it sexy, "a fussy old man, is it?" Can't get it up? I think we both know that's not true." He held out his hand. "You want proof? You wanna eff? Let's go, darlin'. I'll give you a good hard ride in my borrowed bed." I can't wait to see what the other books bring to the series.
Wow, loved these characters especially Jesse. I felt for him from the beginning, he's amazing, sexy, sweet, sexy..lol..he pulled himself up from his horrible past and is a hardworking, kick butt kind of guy, he's got a heart of gold. Of course Becca, she's got a heart bigger than Texas, she's beautiful inside and out, she funny, quirky and sweet and loves her family. Love all the sisters and her brother too but Bud was amazing, he pulled this family together, he takes care of Becca and a is a honorable man. The story from start to finish is amazing, at first the "dude" word was driving me crazy but I get it, their young, funny and goofy sisters who like to mess around. I truly loved this story, loved the horse rescue with Beauty, loved the family and especially loved the love between Jesse and Becca, they both need love and deserve it, they are hot as hell together. I hated Grady...love this book, I highly recommend. Can't wait to read the next in this series, this author writes very emotional, sweet, sexy (wow sexy as hell) and loving story. 5 huge stars review by Nanee at upallnightreadallday.blogspot.com
This was a relatively fun and quick read. I enjoyed Rebecca's attitude. Many of the cowboy style romances I read have very docile women but this woman had some fight. She was consistently calling out Jesse on his quirks. I felt that the book overall was enjoyable, it just wasn't something that I would push to others to hurry to read.
I felt that the sexual relationship between Rebecca and Jesse was unrealistic and it really kind of annoyed me. I understand that in some cases virgins want to just lose it to get it over with but from what I felt about Rebecca as a character, this quirk didn't seem to fit her personality. I felt like it didn't just fit what I felt about the character. Also, the whole "super virgin sexual experience" thing drives me crazy. Biologically, it doesn't really work that way, just sayin'.
So, as a lover of cowboy romances, I did enjoy the book but it's not one that I'd be hurrying to read again.
Note: I received a complimentary copy of this book from netgalley.com for honest review.
Rebecca runs a horse rescue, the family ranch and a whole slew of other things she was responsible for. She has a heart of gold and wasn't really looking for love. She's intrigued by Jesse and wants him all to herself. Jesse was a lonely cowboy broken by the physical and emotional scars from his past. He enjoyed the rodeo and wasn't looking for a place to settle down. He's blown away by Rebecca and her big heart and beauty.
Together they help take care of a badly abused horse and connect on a deep emotional bond. She helps heal his soul a little at a time and makes him realize he just might be worthy of the lobe of a good woman. Will he stay or will he go?
The book was mostly told from Jesse's point of view and I loved it. Such a great book. Their characters were well developed and the slow turn into a relationship was sweet and so real. The love scenes were some of the hottest I've read. I really enjoyed this book.
I was given a copy by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
Rebecca suffered when her parents died, but with the strength of her close-knit Texas family behind her, she came through it and now helps run the Bonifay ranch and her own horse rescue operation. Jesse is a drifter through and through. Orphaned at a young age he knows better than to put down roots in any one place for long. When Jesse gets hurt and Rebecca’s brother takes his spot Jesse can only go back to the Bonifay Ranch to heal. What he never expects is to want more in life then he has. Rebecca wants Jesse in every way but Jesse doesn’t want roots. But there’s no denying the headstrong beauty or the raging passion building between them, and as they discover a stronger connection between each other they have to face reality. I really did enjoy this book. I felt the emotions and was right with Becca and Jesse as they decided what they wanted in life. If you want a book full of feeling then this is for you just be sure to have the tissues handy.
"Runaway Cowboy" by Keira Cole. To be honest, at the start, I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about this one but it didn't take long to realize I was enjoying it and couldn't wait to see what happened. It was fun to see Jesse be so possessive but fight it. Becca, although young, had learned some of life's hard lessons already and, despite being tough on the outside, was really vulnerable. Ms. Cole was able to make me feel what they felt for each other - love, pain, hurt and anger. I would have liked to see a bit more drama maybe, with Shepard just to add to the intensity of their relationship. Although a heartbreaking story at the end, seeing Jesse be there for the love of his life helped ease that pain. This is a story that I enjoyed reading and look forward to seeing what other adventures might lie ahead for Bonifay girls.
Wow if I could only use one word to describe this book it would have to be HOT. This is such a short book but packed with so much. The story was well written. I love how it keeps you on the edge of your seat wanting to know whats going to happen next. You can feel the sexual chemistry coming off the pages between the characters, don't get me wrong this book is not completely about sex its got a really great storyline about a cowboy who feels like he doesn't belong and a cowgirl who feels like its her job to make sure everything and everyone belongs. If you are looking for a steamy read but a quick read I would have to say this is your book.
I was given a free copy at netgally for my honest review of this book.
Runaway Cowboy begins with betrayal then ends with a happily ever after, along with a warning that married people do sometimes fight and makeup. In between are plenty of laughs, some cringes (Jesse on the bronco for one) and even a few tears. This is my kind of story. You have just got to love Rebecca, a true Southern gal. So glad she dropped that two timing Grady. Meanwhile, Jesse had to grow on me, being the stubborn male that he is. However, the struggles that endured in their work and personal lives were genuine and true to life. I was pulling for them all the way. This was an outstanding read - emotional and realistic. I’m looking for more from this southern writer. Copy provided by NetGalley for an honest review.
This book had a really good underlying story of Rebecca and her horse rescue. She's such a no nonsense tough girl but has this soft spot for taking care of abused animals. I really liked that about her as a character. She always tells it like it is and you can either take her or leave her. I liked Jesse too but wish he would have opened up a bit more before the end of the book. I felt like the ending was a bit abrupt which is why I didn't give it 5 stars. I'm assuming there will be another book in the series which is why it ended the way it did, but after finding out about such a horrible tragedy, it was a really quick ending.

This is the second book in the Bonifay Family series and contrary to the norm, I actually got confused more because I read the first one. The events in this book actually happens BEFORE the events in "Come and Get It". I spent half the book looking for the characters (the main ones at least) from Book 1 and could not find them (namely Quin). By the time I realized it, I was already lost and confused. Not a good thing to be when you are trying to enjoy a steamy (!!!) read. Becca is a headstrong, confident woman and I liked her no-prisoners attitude. Jesse embodies the gallant cowboy/drifter thing. Their interactions are "bonifayd" steamy. Quick, steamy read.
I absolutely loved the book. It was my first book by Keira Cole and, to be honest, also my first contemporary Cowboy story, not a genre I usually read. I will for sure read the other books in the series. I can’t wait to see what happens to Dixie and Daisy and Benny and Tammy .... Back to the book ... Jesse, the Runaway Cowboy in the title, needs to learn that bad things happening to you does not make you a bad person and Becca is just the right person to achieve that. The book is funny, sad, romantic and sexy. The characters are well drawn, they feel realistic, like real people with good days and bad days, which made me root for them even more. Well done Keira!
Such a sweet romance between Rebecca & Jesse, with wonderfully written elements of romance thrown in to spice up the book. Rebecca & Jesse were such real characters - I felt like they were real people. They were full of depth & emotion, written in such a way that you honestly felt empathy for them as they were going through their different journeys. I did not know that this was book 2 in a series, because it was written so well, with just enough back story of other characters right when it was needed to make it unnecessary to have read book 1 first.
Runaway Cowboy by Keira Cole is a wonderful story of two broken people who come together to make something beautiful. Rebecca is a 20 year old woman who loves running the ranch she owns with her sisters. Jesse is a 30 year old cowboy who has never had a family of his own. Despite their age difference and the differences in the way they were raised, they will find love in each other's arms. Whether this love is enough for both of them, time will decide. I look forward to reading more by this author. I received a free copy of this book in return for my honest opinion.

Hot diggaty dog this was yummy I mean I love cowboys and here we had one smokin hot one all wrapped up in yumminess. if I start sing 'thank god I am a country boy' slap me but man I want to be a cowgirl... OK back to reality this was a hot story of love and commitment and hot enough to start a brush fire. This is only the second book from this author but I will be keeping my greedy little eyes out for more coz I want so much more.
This book was just okay. There were plenty of sparks between Jesse and Becca. But Grady did not get put in his place. Then Ms. Cole got on my poop list for something. And now I'm confused, the only other book I see happens after this book, so where is book one and who's is it?
Quick, fun read with great characters. Jesse and Rebecca have a spark from the beginning. For a young character she isn't vapid or shallow. She has spunk and she knows what she wants. I really liked this gutsy cowgirl. The only part I hated was the ending because something horrible happened to a character I liked... it really made me sad.
I liked this book! There is nothing like two people who are so lost and have been through so much getting together. It was like Jesse gave her the protection and strength she needed to grow and she helped to heal all of his old wounds.
The real question is can she lasso this cowboy in so that he no longer wants to runaway?
Love cowboy stories to start with! But this one pulled at the heart strings! Heartbreak, moving forward and learning to live again. Read how Jesse and Rebecca find each other and what happens when they do!
Pretty good story and a very quick read. Nice twist with a strong female rancher and a drifter cowboy. I don't really mind sex in books but this had a lot of crude language and felt more about sex than developing love and relationship....which is why it only rated two stars from me.
