"As Dr. Nathan Bryan clearly points out, there’s one miracle molecule in your body that is largely responsible for your health and longevity…NITRIC OXIDE." —Lou Ignarro, 1998 Nobel Prize Winner in Physiology or Medicine
“The Secret of Nitric Oxide by Dr Nathan Bryan may be one of the most important books that you will ever read..." —Mark C. Houston, M.D., M.S., M.Sc., Director, Hypertension Institute and Vascular Biology, Saint Thomas Hospital
"Dr Bryan masterfully unveils the life-changing potential of nitric oxide, from its Nobel Prize-winning discovery to its transformative role in health and disease..." —Robert Lufkin M.D., NYT bestselling author of Lies I Taught In Medical School and medical school professor
"I enthusiastically endorse this book and urge all who care about health and healthy longevity to read it and incorporate this knowledge into your life..." —Felice Gersh, M.D., Medical Director, Integrative Medical Group of Irvine
The remarkable discovery of the molecule nitric oxide or NO back in the early 1980s revolutionized vascular biology and the understanding of chronic disease. Robert F. Furchgott, Louis J. Ignarro, and Ferid Murad won the 1998 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for their discoveries about nitric oxide. Several years later, one man and his discoveries cracked the code on developing a solid dose form of nitric oxide gas as an oral delivery and also a dual-chamber delivery for topical applications. This book will take the reader through the early life of Dr. Bryan through his education and research that led to these important discoveries and will inspire, motivate and encourage others to follow their dreams and not give up even when it seems the cards are stacked against you.
Dr. Nathan S. Bryan is a rare biomedical scientist of Nitric Oxide who is committed to sharing with us how best to get this molecule through food, diet and nutrition as well as a pure molecule in the form of a medicine. His seminal discoveries in the field of nitric oxide have resulted in several dozen issued U.S. and International patents. This book chronicles a lifetime of work on nitric oxide and how Dr. Bryan has been able to see what others have seen but to think what no one else has thought. The technology developed by Dr. Bryan will transform healthcare and the treatment of patients over the next 100 years. Dr. Bryan and his research has been covered in several magazine articles.
Combined biography and informative health/medical book, building on the work of the Nobel prize who discovered Nitric Oxide was a signalling molecule.
Starts of covering the childhood, education, career of Nathan Byan a very talented researcher around Nitric Oxide and its vital importance to the human body.
He also mentions some the dirty tricks played by competing interests in his attempts to bring the benefits of his inventions to most people.
intertwined with very easy to understand information of how Nitric Oxide works as a signalling molecule in the body or indeed is more like a hormone as he describes.
Sometimes the information is repeated but this is not too onerous and does serves to reinforce important concepts.
Anyone interested or concerned by some of the biggest issues impacting people’s health including blood pressure, coronary vascular disease, dementia, diabetes and basically most chronic diseases people suffer from, this is a must read offering a potential permanent cure as opposed to a lifetime of expensive drugs and their inevitable side effects.
Fascinating I could not stop reading, highly recommend. Not having a medical background, I found the book both an interesting and easy to consume, finding myself excited to see how this fascinating journey ends.
The title of the book is highly misleading. I thought the book would be about how nitric oxide works in the body, and the ways we can improve nitric oxide production in our body.
Instead, the author devotes at least half of the book to autobiography, the authors personal struggles to become a successful scientists and then move into product development. It's not a bad topic for a book, but the title completely misrepresents the book's contents.
The author has overcome a lot and I don't mean to diminish him. Their research is important. But the author's obsessive focus on detailing the struggles they have overcome actually made me trust their science less, not more. He's seems so focused on how he's overcome obstacles, that I became concerned that his interest in truth-seeking, the top goal of a scientist, may have become obscured.
You can learn more about nitric oxide from one of the author's many interviews in podcasts than you can from this book. The book does cover some of the science of nitric oxide, but those parts of the book are not well written for a general audience.
I enjoyed this book about the development of nitric oxide for wound care, high blood pressure, auto immune diseases, and Alzheimer’s. It is in the beginning stages but is showing promising results. The book was very technical most times. The four things that play with the body’s nitric oxide production is antiseptic mouthwash, fluoride toothpaste, antacids and antibiotics.
