A brutal head wound left twenty-year-old Bonnie unable to read, write, or speak the languages of the continent.
Nursed back to health and trained as an assassin within the Amlucen rebellion, Bonnie has dedicated her life to removing the tyrannical King Aborn from his throne in order to avenge her murdered family.
When plans to plant damning evidence on the charming Lord Frederick Stonewood goes awry, Bonnie is forced to work alongside her enemy in order to save rebel lives.
But after a battle injury changes everything, how far will she go to learn the truth about the life she lost?
My first indie ARC 🥹 This is definitely a solid debut in the fantasy genre! It reminded me of the first book in the Throne of Glass series, with the difference that here the main character actually stabs people with her knives.
I thought the plot twists were well done and the story was interesting. I discovered some of the twists beforehand but I actually think the foreshadowing and the hints were well crafted and not laid too thick.
Our main character, Bonnie, is resourceful and clever. An injury from her childhood prevents her from reading or learning new languages, and it’s interesting to see how she navigates the world despite these impediments. She’s very good at knife fighting and I loved that it’s not an innate talent of hers, but the fruit of hours and hours of training.
I found our MMC Freddie interesting in theory but I wish he had been a bit more fleshed out. He’s called the "Lord of Libraries" but we don’t really see his love of books too much (apart from the description of his room in the opening scene, which I thought was brilliant: it’s difficult for an assassin to attack a book lover without stumbling over a pile of books 🤣). I did enjoy how he and Bonnie grew close in a way that wasn’t forced at all, but at times I was confused about his personality.
The romance takes a backseat in this story, letting the main plot shine. It was actually refreshing and I did enjoy this aspect. That isn’t to say there’s no romance at all, it’s just extremely slow burn and I loved that! I can’t wait to see how the MCs relationship evolves in the following books.
About the worldbuilding, in this first book we’re given just a glimpse of this world, enough to understand the stakes and the mystery. I kept wishing to know more about the magic system and I hope we learn more about it on the sequels!
I have mixed feelings about the ending because some parts were a bit abrupt and others were overly explained. Also, maybe I'm too used to cliffhangers but I was expecting the last pages to have some shocking revelation that hooked me into reading the next book. That being said, it was a rewarding ending and I am intrigued to know how the story continues.
Overall I really enjoyed Emily Eve's debut fantasy, and I'll be waiting for her next books in this series!
Thanks to the author Emily Eve for providing an eARC 🥰
This book was voted for our book of the month in our indie author book club and I am so excited that it was.
This was such an amazing read. The characters were intriguing, the plot was addictive and the plot twists were a lot of fun.
One of my favourite exchanges was:
‘He thought for a moment. “Do you have any friends? Anyone you can rely on?”
“No.”
“Why not?”
“Assassins don’t make the best of friends.”
“I disagree. Who better to have on your side than someone who would kill for you?”
Bonnie had no reply’
There were a lot of fun moments and moments that made my heart go “awww”. Who knew someone leaving someone half the cooked fish would give me feelings?
I loved the role the animals had in this, and getting to figure out more about our main character and the mystery surrounding her was fun to figure out.
I also liked how it ended. It wasn’t too much of a cliffhanger. It was a satisfying ending but yet you’d definitely want to read a sequel if it came out!
To say this book lives rent free in my head is a colossal understatement. I am a Sarah J. Maas worshipper, Violent Little Thing lover, Zodiac Academy student, and From Blood Ash I will rise…give me ALL the epic fantasy with a side of dark romance! And Bonnie (and BRONWYN) fit right into these great tomes! Genuinely unclear how I’m going to wait until the next book comes out.
“Freddie reached up and grabbed her waist before settling her on the ground with ease. She was impressed despite herself; she was not a small woman.”
Blackthorn by Emily Eve is a fast-paced fantasy adventure story about Bonnie, a young and brutal assassin. And this is my absolutely non-fantasy-esque review as an ARC reader.
The story begins with Bonnie, an assassin with Amlucen rebels, trying to plant evidence on Lord Frederick (Freddie). She lost her memory due to a head injury, and now working with the rebels to overthrow King Aborn and avenge her murdered family.
Her plan, however, didn’t go as planned. And she ends up working together to save rebel lives. The book has magic, it has cosy drama, and it has some harmless flirting sprinkled in.
The story is intriguing and immersive with twists, twists, and lot of unexpected twists. The end-of-chapter cliffhangers never let you rest. There was never a dull, slow moment.
Also, loved that the world-building was adequate, putting new elements and characters as the story goes along. The book pulls you into its world without being overly descriptive.
It’s easy-to-read with vivid descriptions.
If you’re looking for a magical fantasy story, with a strong female main character, Blackthorn is a must-read. It hits you hard.
A fun, easy fantasy that has some interesting twists you don't get in more complex fantasy. I loved Bonnie and Freddie's banter and can't wait to see more of them in the sequel!
I was lucky enough to read an early copy of Blackthorn. Let me tell you, it was so worth it! Somehow, somehow, this was Emily Eve's debut novel? It is so well written that the pacing is fast enough to keep you hooked without losing you, and the characters are so well written. Bonnie and Freddie are my favorites. I love Freddie's sass. My only wish is that "Lord of Libraries" had been way more nerdy and bookish, but there's hope for book 2. Bonnie's need to be in control was very in line with the assassin trope. But also, she was very determined to the point she was flawed, which only made her more realistic. The world building had a bit of a way to go. However, for the context of the story, the world building we get in Blackthorn is perfect. The ONLY reason I'm rating this 4 stars instead of 5 is because I need to see where the story goes and if it can get fleshed out a bit more.
***ARC REVIEW*** I wanted to like this book, it has so many of my favorite things…magic, strong female lead, intrigue, but it fell flat for me. Bonnie, instead of being strong, came off as annoying and ‘anything you can do I can do better’. Freddie was adorable though, and I did love all of the animal friends. Overall, it was predictable and seemed forced.
It was written well enough that I will read this author again.
What a fun book this was, i was constantly hooked while reading this i actually stayed up till 2am because i was just having so much fun and was so immersed in the story. It follows Bonnie a girl who suffered a brutal attack and lost all of her memories, being nursed back to health and trained as a rebel assassin. The rebellion is leathal but not as leathal as the tyrant king that Bonnie vows to kill after all he murdered her family. Her plans don’t always go to plan though as Lord Fredrick Stonewood captures her planting incriminating evidence. They find themselves working together to save the rebels lives but all is not as it seems, when Bonnie starts to get closer the Freddie and a battle injury changes her, many secrets start revealing themselves and she is in danger while she learns the truth.
The story was beautifully written, the plots were constant and honestly some of them i really didn’t see coming i was having to reread the page to make sure i was correct in what i was seeing. It was so fast paced i never had the chance to get bored and i love that about a book. The relationship between Bonnie and Freddie was so cute, their banter with eachother and the realisation they started to care for eachother was intriguing to watch. I loved Bonnie with the animals it was such a unique concept how they are all so drawn to her and it makes her less lonely. The characters were very loveable even the cheekiness of Freddie’s brother was great! Bronwyn was a favourite she was so nuturing and caring no matter how many times she was called an old hag;)
I would have loved to see more romance between Freddie and Bonnie it was there when the book started when we had one horse trope AND he saved her ass but dwinddled off a little id love to see their happily ever after!! And i would have loved to get to know some of the other characters better! Over all this was a very fun fast paced read full of friendships, plot, betrayal, and a little romance!
I received this as an ARC so thank you so much! I am so grateful, i had so much fun reading this!
Thank you to Emily Eve for letting me ARC read this in exchange for an honest review!
Blackthorn was a very strong debut novel, I really enjoyed reading this, it was very easy to speed through the book without realising.
I really liked the FMC Bonnie, I thought her animal handling was such a unique element that I haven't really read about before, it was a very fun addition to the story. I love that she isn't a 'tiny petite skinny queen' whilst it's fine for a FMC to be that, it is really refreshing to hear Bonnie go against the usual Fantasy norm when it comes to body types.
I thought Freddie the MMC was fantastic, very quick witted and smart without being snarky, he was just a genuinely wholesome kind person and I will always love a character who likes to read, he was very relatable.
This is a really great slow-burn as well, whilst they warmed to each other very quickly, there was no insta-love and the relationship still has a lot of potential development.
Whilst this book has a lot of great twists and turns, my only downside to this book was that everything felt slightly rushed, it is a shorter book so it is understandable. I feel like a lot of the plot twists surrounding the FMC's family could have happened a bit later in the story during the height of the action, the final act felt slightly anti-climactic as we already knew all the huge plot twists. I think an extra 100 pages or so could have made this a 5* However, still a great ending overall.
Blackthorn is a book with amazing twists and turns, a great slow burn romance so far and great world building and I am very very excited to read the next book in the series once it comes out.
Set in a kingdom called Hallordis, Bonnie Blackthorn is a trained assassin. Bonnie is the daughter of the leader of a rebel army who tried to overthrow the government of King Aborn who was considered inhumane. Bonnie experienced a terrible incident when she was 8 years old. Both of her parents were killed by the king on the night of Vale Magicae, when all magic in Hallordis disappeared. When the fateful incident occurred, Bonnie suffered a severe stab wound to her temple. Causing her to lose her memory for 8 years of her life. Also lost her ability to read and write. Based on her revenge, Bonnie vowed to kill the king.
Bonnie was sent to the Stonewood residence to trap the son of the king's closest advisor, in order to cause chaos among the kingdom's nobles. Unexpectedly, her plan changed. From the beginning Bonnie had to kill Frederick Stonewood, she ended up bringing Freddie to the rebel army headquarters. Freddie had important information for the rebel army. Freddie also stated that he was a sympathizer of the rebel army and wanted to join them. At first everything was fine, but everything changed when the rebel army's plan fell apart. What happened? Who is the mastermind behind the failure of the rebel troop's plan? What is the secret behind the Vale Magicae incident 12 years ago?
It's great to be one of the ARC readers of this book. A fairly epic and not boring fantasy fiction story. The storyline is quite difficult to guess with various plot twists making readers more curious about the continuation of the story. The ending is quite good and not forced. The character development is quite good and consistent.
I really appreciated how fast paced this book was for me. With ACOTAR, it took me a while to get into but the writing and story building hooked me from the start. I loved that Bonnie was curvy and not the typical skinny but somehow super strong protagonist. Things like that matter! Also - plot twists galore!!!! I had no idea that Gwendolyn was behind it all and she was ruthless, using men to become queen. I was so happy when Bonnie/Charlotte’s memories came back, and I teared up when her father gave her a hug. There were so many memories that he had held onto and kept her childhood bedroom pristine, even with the water and food bowls for the little critters that would pay her a visit. I’m so glad Bonnie has magical powers and can communicate with animals and that her horse had saved Felix. It made me so happy when they apologized to one another for not being there for each other, but the love was always there even though they’re not blood related. Bronwyn being Bonnie’s grandmother is just the cherry on top. I can’t wait for the sequel to see how Bonnie and Freddie’s relationship progresses!

Emily Eve is an amazing writing. The entire world she's created in Blackthorn is amazing, the amount of possibilities that happened I didn't see coming and the amount of possibilities that could happen is amazing when I reached then end I was sad it was over. This story was beautifully written from beginning to end. The first chapter had my heart racing with anticipation and the last chapter left me feeling all warm.
In all honesty, I wasn't sure what t expect, I was thinking this would be just a casual fantasy book but I got a stabby fmc, a sassy witch, a male librarian and a some damn good villains. I'm usually pretty good at guessing storylines and only a few authors have managed to block that, Emily Eve is one of them so if you love enemies to lovers slow burn, magic and assassin's I highly recommend this story. It will keep you on your toes just like it did with me, this is one book I struggled to put down and literally had to be dragged away. I didn't even put it down when I was organising my bookshelf, that's how great this book had me hooked. I loved it. I'd give it ten out of ten but I can only rate it out of 5. Not enough stars to rate how amazing this book is.
Emily Eve’s debut fantasy was so fun and engaging to read! I thoroughly enjoyed it! Devoured it even.
WHAT A DEBUT!
I absolutely adore Bonnie. She’s feisty and fierce but so relatable. THANK YOU for writing a FMC who wasn’t “tiny”. It was refreshing to read about a woman whose body type more resembled my own.
This book is amazing because the world building is easy to follow throughout the book, the magic isn’t too complex, there’s political intrigue, sweet & flirty banter going on with the romance subplot (SLOW burn 🔥 ), it’s fast paced and full of twists and turns to keep you on your toes.
This book releases on April 8, 2025! Mark your calendars, preorder, add to your TBR!
I cannot wait for book two!
Tropes: 🗡️ Stabby FMC 📚 Nerdy, Green Flag MMC ⁉️ Secret past/ Lost Memories ⚔️ Enemies to ??? 🔥 Slow-burn tension 👑 Evil king vs rebels
💖🫑 No spice, just flirting 🤬 mild & infrequent cursing
I finished my ARC of Blackthorn by Emily Eve, and it did not disappoint! I had a really fun time and found myself constantly wanting to dive back in when I had to stop reading.
The book follows Bonnie, a young assassin, as she works to find her place and help further her father’s rebellion against King Aborn. Bonnie’s plan change when she meets Lord Frederick, who convinces her to bring him along her journey.
Act first, think later Banter No spice Found family
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
There were a few areas where the phrasing pulled me out of the story. I did not find it hard to get back in, but it made for a slightly disjointed experience.
If you don’t enjoy the Disney princess effect, approach with caution. I didn’t go in knowing I wouldn’t enjoy this, but I did find myself cringing several times because of it.
I needed a new fantasy book to obsess over, and this one didn't disappoint. It ended and I was said "wait is there another one? This one isn't even out yet and I need a second one."
Enemies to friends, a memory lost, family drama.
For a debut novel, its really well written. There's a plot twist, which is lovely. No cliffhanger, which was surprising - but maybe because I have cliffhanger jumpscare. LOL. I'm always expecting them.
Oh my GOSH what a debut!! This book had me hooked from the start and I can’t wait to see where the rest of the series goes. If you like morally grey, assassin FMC and bookish MMC then you’ll love this book. The pace is fast and I couldn’t put it down by the end and I loved the Snow White vibes for the FMC as all the animals love her but she’s basically the antithesis otherwise which was so fun. Highly recommend, add to your TBR!
I read this book as an ARC. Emily’s debut novel and WOW. Great job. This is a slow burn, but it doesn’t feel like it’s drawn out without cause. The animals made my heart happy. If you’re looking to immerse yourself in a world where there’s a rebel uprising and your MFC is an assassin with no memory of her past, and a man who comes in and makes her question her life long beliefs, give this book a go
Wow! I'm very impressed with this debut novel, I was sucked in from the very beginning. It's an actual slow burn with a very stabby FMC which are actually my favorite things. The story was well paced, with twists and turns I didn't predict! It was captivating and I can't wait to see how the magic unfolds in the next book, along with Freddie and Bonnie's relationship <3
This book had me interested from the very first page and it did not let up until the end!
BLACKTHORN is an entertaining fantasy with darker fairy tale vibes that include political intrigue, lost magic, a capable (and deadly) FMC and a cute romantic subplot. There is no spice, but the flirting and character banter was super cute and I enjoyed the way Bonnie and Freddie’s unlikely alliance and friendship developed.
Without giving too much away, I have to say the animal companions were probably my favorite part of the book-especially the horses. They were just the sweetest and I enjoyed their connection to the FMC.
This is an action packed adventure filled with secrets, twists and surprise reveals. There is some violence, since the main character is an assassin, but overall this is definitely a book that both older and young adults will enjoy reading and I definitely recommend it for any fantasy lovers out there.
Thank you Emily for allowing me to read an advance copy of this book for review purposes.
I always enjoy a good assassin story, and this one did not disappoint! I was so glad to sign up to be an ARC reader for this one. I loved the different characters and cities they went to. I kept getting Throne of Glass vibes with a little bit of Anastasia. The relationships that were built throughout were just wonderful, and there were so many twists and turns. The surprises that the author put in were so good! I really hope we get more adventures with Bonnie, Freddie and the whole gang! I definitely want more Jasper, Felix, and Bronwyn!
This one comes out April 8, 2025, and I highly recommend checking it out for anyone who loves a good fantasy book with a plot!
What. A. Debut. 5 ⭐️ ( If I could rate like 1,000 ⭐️ believe me, I would)
After a head injury that makes her forget the first 8 years of her life, including the loss of her parents, and the mystery of magic fleeing the land, Bonnie is focused on being an assassin in a rebellion, waiting for the chance to overthrowing the kingdom. That is, until she meets a nobleman by the name of Freddie. After secrets, unlikely alliances, and unanswered questions, will Bonnie finally find the answers she didn’t know she was seeking?
This book was so incredible. The twists and turns constantly had me on edge, not wanting to put this book down. I was hooked from the very first chapter! I received an ARC from the author, and i was so surprised! It’s such a good book, you would think she’s written hundreds of novels. I’m so darn excited for her next book, and cannot wait to read more about Bonnie and Freddie.
My thoughts: Wow! Blackthorn by Emily Eve has really stood out for me amongst the fantasy fiction I have read with its incredible characters, fast paced storyline and shocking twists throughout the novel.
Lets start with our absolute boss female lead, Bonnie. Bonnie is a strong-headed and iconic FMC whom I instantly loved - what I especially loved was how she was still undeniably powerful despite her inabilities (being able to converse in the languages of the lands, or to read/write) - she does not let any inhibitions get in her way.
Freddie as a MMC was very well written, and I found myself completely entrusted within his words and actions, but was I right to be? You’ll have to read to find out…
There was action from the very beginning and throughout the novel there was certainly some very dark imagery portrayed. I was immersed within the storyline and could not put this book down, losing myself within each chapter and needing to know what happened next!
Despite there not being a huge amount of romance in the novel between our two MCs I felt this was of no detriment whatsoever. There were some very cute and also emotionally deep scenes which to me were more impactful than explicit scenes or open door relations would have been.
I highly recommend this to all my fantasy fan girlies, or if you are just beginning with fantasy this would be a great book to begin with! Absolutely fabulous and I look forward to more from this author.
Such a fun fantasy novel with twists and turns that kept me guessing the entire time!! Absolutely loved following along with Bonnie and Freddie’s evolution and am praying there is a book #2. Read this my entire cross country flight and simply could NOT put it down. I was so encapsulated by the world Emily Eve has created and it felt like I was stepping right into my favorite fantasy realm yet. Grateful to be an ARC reader as I don’t know how I’ve lived without Blackthorn in my life!!
This book was amazing. First time author Emily Eve blew it out of the water! I was hooked from the beginning. Blackthorn is about an assassin who has much to learn about herself- in more ways than one. I would definitely recommend picking up Blackthorn and getting submerged in the amazing world Emily Eve has created. I can’t wait for a second book.
Blackthorn is one of those debut fantasies that I picked up on a whim and before I knew it, I'd flown through the whole thing. It’s a fast, entertaining read with all the aspects I love in a fantasy like a stabby female assassin, a golden-retriever bookish nobleman, a bit of found family, betrayal, magic, a very slow-burn romance, and my favourite, animal companions. While it’s not perfect, it’s the kind of story that makes you excited to see what the author does next.
The story follows Bonnie, an assassin caught up in her father’s rebellion against the crown. When she crosses paths with Lord Frederick (Freddie), their unlikely alliance sets off a series of events that peel back the layers of Bonnie’s past and the kingdom’s secrets. From the jump, Bonnie’s resourcefulness and dry wit make her easy to root for. I especially appreciated that her skills, like knife fighting and animal handling, were earned through effort and training, not just “chosen one” magic.
Freddie is charming in a different way. He’s soft without being boring, clever without being smug, and while he’s known for his love of books, I did wish we got to see that more throughout the story rather than being told about it. Their dynamic is all banter and tension, with no real insta-love in my opinion, which I actually found really refreshing. The romance takes a a bit of a backseat, and while that might frustrate some readers, I personally loved the restraint and slow build. There's a ton of room for emotional development in future books, which makes their connection feel more authentic.
The plot keeps a steady pace for most of the book. There are some great twists, some of which I saw coming, others that genuinely surprised me, but I did feel like the final act lost a bit of steam. A few big reveals happened earlier than expected, and the ending, while solid, didn’t quite deliver the emotional punch I was hoping for. It felt like we were gearing up for something explosive, but the climax arrived a little too quickly.
There were also moments where the writing pulled me out of the flow, certain lines or phrasing that felt slightly off or just a bit repetitive, but not enough to really hurt my enjoyment. The world-building, while pretty light in this first instalment, had some really promising touches. I’d love to see more of the magic system explored in future books, along with the broader political landscape beyond Bonnie’s personal mission.
All in all, Blackthorn is quite a strong debut with lovable characters, a fun premise, and plenty of promise. I definitely had a few nitpicks, but none of them outweighed how much fun I had reading it. Bonnie and Freddie won me over completely, and I’ll definitely be picking up the sequel.
This book was good. But I have some conflicting feelings about it. For some reason it felt at once fast-paced as well as slow. There was a lot of action and a 𝘭𝘰𝘵 happened for a 400-page book. But at the same time I felt like we spent a lot of time in Bonnie’s head, thinking about too much stuff that could’ve taken up less space. I also think the second half was better and more balanced than the first half, and didn’t feel quite as predictable. All in all the story is pretty original, and I did wonder where we’d be going next. But some plot points were a little bit too obvious and I feel like a lot of hints were dropped. On the other hand, we found out some crucial information for these supposed plot twists, before the FMC conveniently ‘forgot about that’ and nobody else ever mentioned it.
Bonnie’s role within the rebellion was a bit vague and confusing at times. She’s been there for 12 years and was raised by the leaders. You’d think she’d have earned some modicum of respect, for her parents’ sake if not for her skillset as an assassin. But nobody seemed to respect or like her, which seems weird. Also, I find it hard to believe she feels at home with Gwenyth when we also discover this woman has abused her in the name of punishment. Doesn’t quite seem like a warm and loving environment.
Aside from all of this, the story was really well-written and I loved the relationship between Bonnie and Freddie. While the change from enemies to trusted friends was a bit sudden in my opinion, I 𝘢𝘮 glad it happened and I liked the quirky nicknames and cute banter they had going, without tainting it with massive amounts of sexual tension for the sake of turning this into yet another enemies-to-lovers we’ve seen so much of lately. Yes, there’s something there, but it’s and actual 𝘴𝘭𝘰𝘸 burn and not a insta-love pretending to be one for the sake of adding some spice.
Freddie was such a gem as well. Quietly sexy, smart and well-read, witty and so damn patient. I think he perfectly balances out Bonnie’s hotheaded impulsiveness.
It was a bit hard for me to really get into the book at first, but about 30% in I was hooked, and I’m actually glad with the ending we got. It feels like it could’ve been a standalone, so I’m curious what the next book will bring.
Blackthorn is Emily's debut fantasy novel. It started right out the gate with intrigue and fast-paced adventure. The momentum kept up pretty much throughout the book. I really enjoyed the FMC Bonnie Blackthorn, as well as the MMC Freddie. If you are looking for intrigue and a twisty plot, this is the novel for you!
When Bonnie was 8 years old, she suffered a nasty head injury, making her forget the first 8 years of her life. It also left her unable to read, write, or unable to comprehend other languages, other than the common tongue. Adopted by the head of the Amlucen rebels, Bonnie Blackthorn becomes an assassin and is supposed to be take over the rebels. The story starts with her planting damning evidence on Lord Frederick - Freddie - in the rebels bid to overthrow King Aborn. The very king responsible for her parents death and her injury. But as luck would have it, things don't go her away. Bonnie and Freddie are thrust into chaos as the rebels and the kings guards come to a head. Bonnie must try to remember her past while figuring out who she can actually trust and believe.
I really enjoyed the premise of the story. The first half of the book kept me enthralled. It was just one thing after another - action, suspense, you name it. About midway, the pacing kind of slowed down, and I was hoping that meant we were going to get more details, more meat of the story - about the rebels, about the rebel leaders past and connections, etc. I felt like the ideas were there and mentioned and could have been flushed out more. The story picked back up again towards the end. And again, I really wish some of the ideas, some loose ends had been flushed out more. There isn't a huge cliffhanger of an ending. Most things are wrapped up nicely. What wasn't wrapped up I hope will be addressed in book 2.
Magic System: A little bit (hoping for more in book 2) Spice: None Character Development: Yes! Twists & Betrayals: Yes! Romance: Sort of enemies to lovers vibe
From the minute I read the first page I was hooked. This was the story I didn’t know I needed and everything I could have wanted. This will be one that I wish I could read again for the first time and will definitely be one I pick up again to relive and enjoy over and over. Assassin Snow White was absolutely missing from my life; but that has been rectified!
A morally grey FMC, a golden retriever MMC who loves books, a cantankerous old witch are just the start of the cast of characters and it only gets better the more you meet! Bonnie is such a perfect FMC, she has flaws but doesn’t let them hold her back. She is a badass with a soft side and when she is presented with things that go against what she has been taught she is open to listen (after a bit). Freddie is everything I could want in a man. Gorgeous, smart, sweet, book lover, with a hidden steel that becomes apparent at the right moments! Bronwyn is incredible but she is someone you will need to meet on your own!
The story itself had be hooked from the start. A band of rebels fighting the injustice of the current “tyrannical” king; what’s not to love. But as new information continued to come to light my mind was spinning. I was trying to figure out all the pieces and couldn’t stop reading. The twists are perfect, they aren’t shock and awe but they are delivered in such a way that you will simultaneously gasp and nod because you were right. I loved all of the tiny details and the little Snow White references. My biggest complaint is that I now have to wait to see what happens next and I am not known for my patience!
This book has so many incredible tropes but they would spoil all the fun if I listed them. So, run, grab this book from wherever you like to read from and get lost in this incredible world! Pairs perfectly with a cool beverage, snacks that don’t leave streaks, and a soft, comfy blanket to lose yourself for hours!
Happy reading!
Thank you to the author for the complimentary copy of this book! All thoughts and opinions are purely my own.
