Trust when I say Octavia has a mind out of this world! I am having trouble deciding who are the most unhinged main characters in her stories because they continue to get more and more deranged, and I am here for IT ALL! Imagine being heartbroken and you use the old fashion saying “the best way to get over a man is under another one” only for that to backfire in the worst way! Jamison Jamison Jamison, is all I can say. I love how this author brings these delusions to life in these characters and the TWISTS always leaves your mouth & entire jaw on the floor. She definitely threw a twist in this one that you will not see coming. A must read! ★★★★★

Thank you to Octavia Grant for a chance to read and review an advanced reader copy! Thank you to the ladies of BWW for sharing your craft and bringing us the Dating App Horror Series!

Although Jamison was sick, he was already deemed a menace to society because of where he came from. Who he came from. He was failed before birth. I blame Dr. Sterling for all of this. He needed to be admitted as well because something is loose in that head of his. That man gotta be one of the devils puppets. Hate is real.

Kera did not deserve this. She put a lot of people in harm’s way unintentionally, but I really hope she learned from her actions.

One thing Octavia is going to do is have your jaw dropping. I’m really curious to know what goes on in this lady’s mind lol. No, seriously though. One day I’m going to have to sit down to see which one of her male characters is the most unhinged.

This really teaches a valuable lesson. Don’t act on emotions. Think before you do. Everything you do has consequences, whether it’s good or bad. Oh, and be careful on those goddamn dating apps because $#!t can get real.

Thank you Octavia for this ARC copy, all thoughts are my own.

So, as with every Octavia Grant book I have ever read, it had me shook from beginning to end! If I thought the first book in this series was wild, this one took it to a whole new level.
Terrifying is the only word I can think of! Kera made a choice that she thought would lessen the heavy pain in her heart. Love will make you cross every line, even the ones you swore you never would.
But one thing this book makes very clear—all actions have consequences, and everybody in this story had to face one. Whether it was a result of their own choices or getting caught in someone else’s web, no one made it out untouched. Revenge is a crazy motivator, and when people are fueled by it, nothing is off limits.

After reading this, I might just go ahead and delete every dating app because if there are people like this lurking out there? Yeah, I’ll pass. Octavia Grant snapped with this one—the twists, the tension, the way the suspense kept building? Perfection. If you love fast-paced thrillers that leave you questioning everybody’s intentions, then this is the book for you!

First, let me just say for this to be a thriller/horror book, it was exceptionally spicy.

Kera has that good stuff, her kitty as a whole aphrodisiac. She got these men tripping all over themselves and each other to get some. I was not mad at her.

Next, while you do not have to read the Asylum novella series (available on KU) to enjoy this book, I think if you do, it will be just a tad bit more satisfying because just the mention of that corrupt mental hospital and its staff, let me know this was going to be good from the jump.

If didn't already know, this is book II in a standalone novella thriller/horror series that tells individual tragic, messy, and deadly stories about the individuals who choose to use a certain dating app. Reading them in order is not necessary, but any series reader can tell you that doing so provides just a bit more joy and insight.

Alright let's get into it. I truly believe that Aaron Pierre is responsible for this series. This is just a theory and my personal opinion, but I think the collective authors were watching that damn Aaron Pierra that's Mufasa video on repeat and they were like: Look at all these bitches tripping over themselves over this man's eyes. The hes, shes, and theys were all in the comments saying some unhinged shit about what they would let that man do if they had a shot. I believe with all my heart, that the authors were like let's get together but separately write stories about fine ass, light eyed men, and create havoc.

Octavia was like I'm not gonna write just one but two sexy ass unhinged mutherfkers.

Oh I loved it and I love her. Poor Kera and her golden kitty is put through it. This is a fast, action packed, crazy ass story. It's not for the weak of heart or stomach though. Our boy Jamison is seriously off the deep end. Check trigger warnings and read at your own risk.

If you are already with Octavia's writing, then I promise you this is right on par and will not disappoint.

“…she prayed this encounter wouldn’t come back to haunt her.”

I have yet to read something that Octavia Grant has written that hasn’t completely left me in shambles.
She writes unhinged characters, so well.
When I saw that she was the author for the 2nd book in this series, I was sat.
The level of delusion that the MMC has reminds me of “Dear Vicky”. I didn’t really enjoy the relationship between the FMC and her ex husband. I wanted that part to be over. I was more interested in how everything tied together in the end.

Although I enjoyed book I better, this one is worth the read as well.

Wow!!! My jaw was on the floor with this thriller! This book was filled with suspense and thrills at every turn. The story was beautifully written and explored the chance encounter between a hurt woman Kera and a maniac Jamison. This meeting ended up evolving to a sinister and obsessive plot by Jamison to do whatever it takes to ensure Kera was his. If the drama that unfolded during the course of the story was not enough, to read the major twist at the end of the story that put the chain of events in motion was mind blowing! I thoroughly enjoyed this book and could not put it down! If you love a good thriller then this is the one!!!

As a woman who is single and has entertained the idea of putting myself out there in the dating world. I have officially deleted every existing dating profile. This story put the fear in ya in how extremely dangerous online dating can be but most of all this story reminded you of the delusional unstable detached from reality characters that Octavia writes so well.Bloodshed is inevitable if you see Bordeaux Mental Institution anywhere mentioned in the story. So many “Hell nah” reader moments which makes for a thrilling read. Highly recommend can’t wait to read the rest of this series.

I am shook

Omg I don’t know where to start. I had to read this twice to make sure I was reading what I was really reading. I’m never giving my name at coffee shops anymore nor will I make useless conversations with random people. Jamison is unhinged and top tier delusional. Jamison has been committing unthinkable acts since his early childhood. Kera trying to forget about her broken marriage makes the worst decision of her life. She downloads Dime A Dozen dating app and her will forever be changed by Jamison Battle.

Pulled Me In

I got sucked into this story from page one because of the characters, the situations they faced, and their problem solving skills. I had a few yuck moments, did that really happen. It should’ve been expected with Octavia Grant. The only downside is I can’t stop imagining and thinking about one of the character’s physical deformity.

Wow! Another Hit Octavia!!

Octavia's writing is a veritable buffet of delights - drama, action, murder, and suspense, all served up with a side of wit and a garnish of sarcasm. Her books are the literary equivalent of a page-turning, adrenaline-fueled roller coaster ride. Strap in and hold on tight, because with Octavia, the only thing you can count on is the unexpected.

Something about Kera is book 2 in the dating app anthology series.

This story introduces readers to a character named Kera whose life is completely altered after impulsively meeting a guy she matched with on a dating app after learning of her husband's infidelity. Jamison, mentally unstable and dangerous, happens to be Kera's nightmare match but for him it's love at first sight.

Jamison's character is sadistic, dangerous and by no means a victim. But, the real mastermind behind the chain of events intentionally used him for his own selfish purposes. Which just made me wonder how much blame can be placed on his character if he was also being manipulated?

The main thing that made me confused was the timeline from when the initial match happened and where the story picks back up at. What had Jamison been doing in that long stretch of time? There's a few themes in this book that seem to be Octavia's staples--but I won't give spoilers to what those are.

My Cons:
But it was unnerving.

Something about Kera by Octavia Grant
I just finished reading Something About Kera. It’s about a young nurse who is heartbroken by her husband’s betrayal. She goes on a dating app to find a one night stand to get over her husband’s betrayal. Instead she finds a stalker. The guy has mental health issues. The story is about Kera and she meets a guy on a dating app. She was hurting because of the things she found out about her husband. The guy Kera meets has severe mental health issues. He thinks Kera wants him when she doesn’t want him and doesn’t recognize him.
How I reacted with the book was pure shock and disgust in one particular scene. The plot in the book had my mouth on the floor. I liked how she talked about mental health. I have my own issues with mental health. When I say disgust I’m referring to a scene in the book where he did something so disgusting. This book reminds me of her other books that I love such as Unhinged, Don’t Call Me Crazy, and 666 Le Mutrier. The characters are all unhinged. The way she talks about the characters, you would think you know them. I felt like I was there with them. The book was written in multiple POV’s.
I do recommend this book if you like Horror, Dark and unhinged then this is the story for you. The plot twists in her stories will leave you speechless. I really enjoy her writing. I’m thinking the story is going one way but it takes a whole left turn. There is so much I want to say but I would be giving the story away. You have to be careful when meeting someone on a dating app. This book is a real page turner.

Another great read by the one, the only Octavia Grant. When I tell you I thoroughly enjoyed this book! My goodness! Jamison is an absolutely mess and the fact that they thought it was ok to let this dude out was so crazy to me!

I enjoyed every aspect of this story and though a short read with fast pacing, you end up getting a complete story where you will not leave feeling like you do not know the characters. I just love Grant's writing style and the way she creates characters that are not your typical characters who may start off with flaws but they end up doing a complete turnaround and becoming perfect.

In this book we see how the decisions we make may end up being our downfall. When someone does something, something they may think is of no consequence, as we saw in Something About Kera, it always comes back to bite you in the bottom sooner or later. So, be careful what you do, who you use, and how you choose to get your lick back.

Sidenote, I DID NOT see that plot twist that happened at the end coming. Geeze Louise, my jaw was completely on the floor, that is how shocked I was. That was such a satisfying twist!

Something About Kera was a quick, fast paced thriller that had all of the goodies and I would, WITHOUT A DOUBT, recommend it!

What. In. The. Entire World!

With every reveal inside this story, my jaw hit the floor while I also said "dang, Octavia Grant has messed me up yet again". I mean that in the best possible way because reading her books have me evaluating my mental for loving this and never wanting to stop reading the stories. It's like I want to slow down reading and take my time with it so that I can prolong the end, but I also can't because it's all so fast paced that I just stay buckled in for the ride. Jamison, the male character of this story? Oh he has Andrew from Dear Vicky beat. Kera. I understand you were hurting but let's use this as a lesson about never listening to that saying about "getting under another" ever again.

Thank you to Octavia Grant for an advanced reader copy of this story! I don't know how you manage to top each story, but you do and I love it so 🙌🏽

Star level: 5 stars Spice level: 🌶️
Trope: shifter, cheating ex husband, stalker one nightstand, mental health
Trigger warnings: killing after killing .
Fav quotes: “When you had me, you didn’t want me. But as soon as I gave you back to the streets, you want me back. Classic games that black man play. Find yourself a new flavor of the week and leave me alone!”
About the book: She did it again! I’m never disappointed when I read a book by Octavia Grant. This book taught me dating apps are bad! What happens at the end had my jaw on the ground but I knew we never get a HEA then the twist right after that my gosh! Who knew someone could hate someone that much!? The fact he met her once and was that obsessed with her is crazy and how and why they linked is even crazier. Look never do anything out of anger because you might regret it later.

One thing for certain when you're reading a book by Octavia Grant, you're gonna be disturbed but you'll also be entertained. In Something about Kera, we get to meet another of the outrageously insane folks that live in the author's head by the name of Jamison. And like all of the other psychotic characters over the years, he has a bit of charm! That's kind of what makes the story so interesting because you want to h8te him but he also makes you chuckle. The story is darkly comical but if the point is to warn us about the dangers of meeting strangers on apps, Jamison understood the assignment.

(Note, I am NOT an author in this book. I wrote only Book IV in the series. This is my review as a reader!)

I haven't really dated much, and don't have dating horror stories, but after this, I guess I'll just be single for the rest of my life, cause, whet? And I kinda knew what I was getting into when I requested the story, because I've read books from the author before and I shouldn't have been surprised, but I kinda was. Every book I've read from her is always out the box, exciting and disturbing. If you're looking for twisted and disturbing reads that will have you contemplating some of the people in the world, I need you to start reading books from this author, fast, quick and in a hurry.

I received a copy of the book via the author and am voluntarily leaving an honest review of my own thoughts and opinions.

Why am I not surprised by what I just read by Octavia Grant!

Ms. Unhinged you did it again. When I see your name attached, I know it’s about to be a wild ride. And you had me at the first line when I saw “Bordeaux Behavioral Hospital”, I knew it was about to be some mess, if you know you know LOL! First of all why was it headless? Y tho?! WHY!?!? Second is Jamison related to Andrew, another if you know you know? Third what did I just read? How do you come up with this stuff!? Is church open? I feel like I need to start going. Whew child, I need a drink. Octavia be writing her arse off for these five star ratings!

Mrs. Unhinged has done it again!

This book got me rethinking my whole stance on dating apps. You really never know what kinda crazy, unhinged person is lurking behind those profiles—or just how deep their obsession can go. The story was like watching a train wreck in slow motion, but you can’t look away.

If you’re into wild, twisted endings and love stories that spiral into straight-up madness, this one’s a must-read. Just… be careful who you match with out here. Some folks don’t handle rejection too well.

Oh, and if you do happen to see my profile? Just swipe right. Trust me, it’s easier that way.

Jamison

Octavia here we are again 😂. Ma’am I’m so happy i never know what to expect.

That dang on Jamison was a fool through and through. Very sick. His character was definitely built up to be the unhinged out of this world crazy man. And that Dr was no better. Knew exactly what he was doing. Playing a dangerous game.

Kera, bless her heart, had to learn the hard way. It’s sucks what she went through. However, what I’m about to say goes for everyone, “go park that behind down somewhere and breath first.” Acting off emotions doesn’t always end well. These dating apps are like piranha infested waters. Got to be more careful.
