A light, pleasant, joyful book. Although its content isn't particularly new, it's still important to have a gentle reminder of such things every now and then.

The idea of the dialogue between the way and the different elements of nature was truly wonderful and left a strong impression on me.

The illustrations are visually appealing; I love watercolor art, and the details in the paintings were beautiful.

The book felt like a gentle, lighthearted pause — a small oasis of calm, kindness, and the quiet beauty found in small things. 💚💚

3.5⭐ - 🌿 Thoughtful nature themed reflections on enjoying the simple moments in life, accepting change, and moving forward on your path with hope. I loved the nature watercolor illustrations - they were soothing and calming. I paint as well, and it's always great to see a book celebrating art along with the writings. I loved the longer passages by the author at the beginning and end of the book, which showcased her inspiration.

The book is similar to the style of The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse.

🍂 "Don't be afraid to move on," said the Distance. "Moving on doesn't make the things behind you smaller, less important, or less loved. It just makes the world at your feet seem that much larger."

🍂 "Why do we all seem to be searching for our own way in life?" asked the path. "I think we're all longing to come home," replied the mountaintop. "And sometimes we travel great distances only to find that the home we've been searching for has been inside us the entire time."

A few things that could have been better:
Some writings were repetitive, or along similar lines when reading continuously - though it did a good job of consistently communicating the core theme of the book. I personally prefer the writing to be a little more poetic, while this was fairly direct. I didn't prefer the font, specifically the way it capitalized the R in all the words.

I think this is a book that you can have with you, and open up every once in a while for a nice little message paired with lovely art that feels peaceful (rounded up the rating on account of the illustrations) .

An illustrated short book filled with words of encouragement. At 1 am, I’m trying not to be emotional because it’s just what I need lately. 🥺

Rozemijn Aalpoel's The Beautiful Things Along the Way is a visually captivating and emotionally resonant book that serves as a gentle reminder to appreciate the small moments in life. The gorgeous watercolor landscapes are the undeniable star, with each turn of the page inviting reflection on the passage of time and the beauty of nature. The poetic prose is a tender guide through a journey of self-discovery and resilience, making it a perfect gift for someone starting a new chapter.

While the parable is inspirational, its simplicity might leave some readers wanting more. The message is clear and consistently delivered, which makes for a comforting read, but those who prefer a more complex or layered narrative may find it a bit too straightforward. Still, it's a beautifully crafted fable that delivers exactly what it promises: a heartfelt, thoughtful nudge to find meaning in every step.

I recommend this book to take a few mindful and uplifting moments for yourself. It’s a breath of fresh air and nature for your soul.

The Beautiful Things Along the Way is an illustrated comfort read with encouraging affirmations and reminders that there is light after darkness and beauty in all of life’s peaks and valleys.

I was drawn to this book because it is similar to The Boy, The Mole, the Fox, and the Horse which I love to return to every now and again. The illustrations in The Beautiful Things Along the Way was its strength for me, I found them beautiful, calming, and hopeful. While the text did not resonate as deeply with me, it had a great message. I would happily return to the book and I’m confident that different parts will resonate based on where my life is at the moment.

Thank you so much to NetGalley, Rozemijn Aalpoel, and Andrews McMeel Publishing for the review copy.

This book personifies the world around us and imagines what is being said by sunrise, the darkness, the distance, etc. I read this in ebook format, and I must urge you not to. Not because it is bad in any way, but because it is a book begging to exist beyond a screen. I can only imagine the full-page spread illustrations, and I am beyond excited to get a hold of a physical copy. As for the writing, it is so tender and warm. It reminds me of the first time I stumbled upon The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse and how held I felt. The illustrations are beautiful, and the writing is gentle. I did find the writing's formatting repetitive towards the end, and it would have been nice if some of the quotes had started with 'the rain cloud replied...' instead of always ending there. It had a lovely sentiment, despite not breaking any new ground, and it is a beautifully illustrated book that is good for the heart.

3.5 rounded up

The Beautiful Things Along the Way is one of those books that just makes you slow down and think about what really matters. It’s short, simple, and kind of feels like a deep breath after a long week. The mix of calm words and pretty watercolor art makes it feel cozy and peaceful. It reminded me that the good stuff in life usually happens in small, everyday moments—not just the big milestones. Honestly, it’s the kind of book I’d give my friends to read when they are stressed or trying to figure out their next step.

The Beautiful Things Along the Way is a beautifully illustrated with watercolors with written texts about starting anew. The colors used are soothing and comforting alongside the encouraging words from the author about being courageous and open to the new paths available to us. Especially when we have reached a chapter in our life whether it be closing or opening.

This book really resonated with me because I'm at such a point in my life so reading these words was quite comforting to me.

Beautiful watercolour illustrations. Inspiring conversations with nature, the weather, the road, the mountains, the flowers, and so on and so on. This was a quick read, but I thoroughly enjoyed it, and I believe the pages of this book would make for beautiful art pieces!

The font, which looks like handwriting, suits the story, but can be difficult to read at times. It’s definitely not dyslexia-friendly, but it did fit the overall aesthetic of the book.

Thank you NetGalley, Andrews McMeel publishing, and author Rozemijn Aalpoel for the ARC.

The Beautiful Things Along the Way is a thought provoking book beautifully illustrated by watercolour paintings of relaxing nature scenes. It is easy to read within one sitting and was a very heartwarming and cosy read. At points the writing, done in a hand written style, was difficult to read but it did tie in with the cosy theme of the book.

The book is of very similar vibes to The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for a digital copy of this book.

The watercolor paintings within this book were very calming. The font was difficult to read, which did detract from my enjoyment of the text. The writing was repetitive. However, the overall message and theme were uplifting. I could picture it on a counselor's bookshelf.

If you enjoy Morgan Harper Nichols, you will likely enjoy this work by Rozemijn Aapoel.

I received an electronic ARC from Andrews McMeel Publishing through Edelweiss+.
Though the font is difficult to read at times, the message comes through clearly. Aalpoel encourages readers to keep moving forward no matter how many challenges they face. The text blends well with the softly focused watercolor illustrations. A lovely gift book for a friend who is struggling and one for our own bookshelves as well.

As is aptly stated in the synopsis, ‘this charming fable takes you on a journey and shows that there is something beautiful to be found on every step taken’. The story was lovely, as were the illustrations. The only thing that stops me from giving a 5 is I’m probably not the target audience for this one. I can still see the beauty in it though and how it could be very inspiring for others.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

The Beautiful Things Along the Way is a soothing read, with lovely illustrations that complement the core message of the book. While I really appreciate the thought and care behind it, the tone felt a bit preachy at times, and the font wasn’t to my liking.

Rather than reading it in one sitting, I would recommend flipping through the pages whenever you need a moment of comfort—it makes for a more enjoyable experience that way.

Thank you for the free access to this book in NetGalley.

I never thought I needed a self-help or non-fiction book in my life. I've always preferred fiction. But this book.. it came to me at a time when I needed it the most. It felt like a warm hug on a cold winter day.

Thank you so much to this book. It opened my eyes to the beauty of self-help/nonfic. It was light and heartwarming.

The illustrations are really great too. I have a few favorites.

I am definitely gonna purchase a physical copy when it becomes available and I would have my friends read it.
