Adam Ellis is a wonderful comic artist, and I do particularly like his horror work. While I did enjoy this book, I was a little disappointed to find that 5 of the 10 stories were ones I have read in their entirety either on his patreon or regular social media channels. I would have liked to see more stories I hadn't already read, especially since they comprised half the book

I loved everything about "Let Me in Your Window," just like I loved everything about "Bad Dreams in the Night." The colors, the characters, the unnerving but truly hypnotizing stories, everything was brilliant. Unlike the last one, the number of stories I loved only doubled, my four favorites being "Apple Head," "Old Machines," "Gospel of the Dead Moon," and "Rebrand." I'll definitely be re-reading this book again and again, especially the four stories above.

I liked the first collection of horror stories/comics better but I liked how these were continuations from comics I've seen prior from this artist. Also ReBrand was the best one, you can't change my mind.

A shiny new terrifying short stories graphic novel by Adam Ellis! Sleep is overrated!

I just ADORE ADORE Adam Ellis his work and I always love reading them on BlueSky (and before that on Twitter when I still used that). Last year his first collection book came out: Bad Dreams in the Night which combined stuff from online with some newer stories. Read my review for that one here.

In this book we get 10 new stories! Stories that range from spooky hauntings and messages to a train that may or may not go to hell and what to do when you have the chance to help someone to strange kids on an island to the moon maybe not being what you think it is. Each story is superb written and you just cannot stop reading, even when it gets more and more terrifying or more and more disturbing (and you know at a point you will have nightmares). I love the variety of stories and each time it is like a gift, what kind of creepy shit will we get this time? What will happen now? What kind of horrors will be unleashed upon the main character(s) of this story? My two favourites would be Applehead (about a town where you cannot buy fresh fruit or ELSE and Don’t Look (about a mirror and a clown, especially the clown was a big fat NOPE).

The only thing I missed and that I loved in the previous horror collection? The little comments/notes by Adam on how he came to the idea of the story/what inspired him. I would have loved to see those in this one as well.

The art? Fabulous as always. I love Adam’s style be it for horror or for more comedy/satire stuff. He really has a knack of drawing terrifying things. Even things that look innocent look creepy.

Oh, and I would recommend getting the hardcover, I am not sure if the paperback has it, but the hardcover has that window you see on the cover cut out and if you open the book you see what is attached to that eyeball you see looking in.

All in all, thank you for the nightmares Adam Ellis, I appreciate it, haha. I would highly recommend this book to everyone! And as for me (and my hubby)? We are hoping for many many more spooky and terrifying books!

I enjoyed his first book of comics and now this one as well. I love the art style so much. Characters are clear and easy to identify from each other. Plot points are also well drawn and easy to follow. He's very talented! I hope he puts out another book.

I'm a little annoyed that I didn't like this as much as the first book, especially since these were comics I hadn't read before. I was also mad that there were no little notes after each comic, like the previous book. Some of the endings were either too ambiguous or not ambiguous enough for me to figure out what conclusions I was meant to draw or reach.

I did like some of them though! "Little Kingdom" was good, though I think it should have ended one-page earlier. I also liked the Dead Internet story and the Rumble Queen story (though I think that one could have been a bit more ambiguous in its ending). The mirror story with the clown was good too - I liked the body horror in that one. I really enjoyed the Dead Moon story and liked the use of multi-media at the end, and the Apple Head was also good (I love saying I didn't overall enjoy this story and then have like...multiple stories listed that I did enjoy).

I thought the sleepwalker story and the train story were really weak - I think I just didn't get them like I was supposed to??? Like I couldn't figure out what I was meant to take away from them or how I was meant to react to them. The ideas were interesting, but I just didn't find the execution interesting.

It was fine. The art is still really good and I liked that Adam Ellis played the "How many El*n M*sk pastiches can I fit into this comic and how many times can I make it clear that they're evil" game so often.

Just as in his previous horror anthology ‘Bad Dreams’, Adam nails creating an intriguing and unsettling atmosphere through his art. His ability to create visually interesting and diverse scenes that draw you in is phenomenal.

Unfortunately I found that many of the stories in this anthology seemed to end abruptly or without narrative explanation. I know that some were intended to be open ended, and was the same with Bad Dreams, but I couple of the stories left me thinking ‘wait, is that it?’ The premises were super intriguing, but didn’t seem to stick the landing in the end.

That said, ‘Don’t Look’ is a horrifically unsettling and will have me side eyeing every mirror I pass by

Rating by story:

Little Kingdom: 2*
This gives some "The Village of the Damned" vibe, but there's no answer as to why the children are like that. I don't always need an answer to that, but in this case, the children are not explicitely shown to be monsters or aliens or anything. They are just said to be 'creepy' (cause they look odd and don't talk) and then they turn violent. That made me a bit uncomfortable. I guess there might be something there about exploiting other people's lives for fame (the MC is a documentarist) but it did not reach me. Some of the imagery was nicely horrifying though.

Hello Charlie: 3*
Kind of a typical stalker story, although the way the stalker communicates with the MC is 'fun' and the 'incessant threat coming closer to you' angle always gets me at least a bit. However, although I like the 'Oh no' moment at the end, I wish the story went a bit beyond that moment.

Apple Head: 2*
That one only has the last page going for it. Oh, and maybe the references to yaoi, that was funny. But even one of the character in this story was like 'this is kind of a lame story'.

Old Machines: 4*
This one seems to have been inspired by Kairo/Pulse, the 2001 Japanese horror movie. I quite enjoyed it. The implications of it are terrifying and I like when the supernatural get mixed up with technology. Plus there's a jab at Elon Musk as a bonus.

Sleepwalker: 3*
Probably would have liked it more as an expanded story. I feel there was a lack of context to what happened. The reveal was good, though.

Rumble Queen: 4*
Deliciously horrifying. Kind of a 'good for her', although not really because not much is said about what has been done to, well, her. It's also a 'I Have no Mouth and I Must Scream' kind of story.

Don't Look: 3.5*
I enjoy horror involving mirrors. This one does not particularly stand out by its plot, but the imagery was efficient. It gave goosebumps. The way it is resolved is funny though. You'll almost feel story for the bad guy.

Sunken Express: 4*
That one does not feel like horror, though it has some horror-ish implications. It felt more wholesome than anything else. I liked it! Nicely otherworldly.

Gospel of the Dead Moon: 3*
It reminds me of a story by Junji Ito that I did not particularly care for, although less visually crazy. Some of the imagery is creepy though, and I still like cosmic horror. However, I don't like that type of bleak ending (I know, I am made of contradictions).

ReBrand: 4*
That was fun. The twist got me and it took me a second for it to click in my mind, what had happened and why. Sometimes, monsters got to get creative, especially in this modern world.

Overall rating: 3.25*
A mixed bag, just like most short story collections. It was a nice read though, and I really like Adam Ellis' art style.

3 ⭐️ - “That story didn’t have any hallmarks of a yaoi! […] It just doesn’t make any narrative sense!”

I put this collection on hold after Adam Ellis posted a teaser of the first part of the “Sleepwalker” story. It was well drawn, creepy, and pulled me right in. I had to know how it ended. Unfortunately, like many of the other stories in this book, the ending was disappointing. It felt like something was missing, as if the narrative was arrested right at the climax. So many times I found myself wondering “What next? Or why?” But was met with no answers.

“Don’t look” and “Old Machines” gave me actual goosebumps and the stories were all so unsettling that it was still an enjoyable read. I enjoy how unique and diverse Adam makes his characters and how they can have big personalities despite their short appearances.

Another splendid collection of short horror comics from Adam Ellis. As with any collection, there are winners and losers, but each one kept my attention. Ellis's artwork is a huge plus - cartoony, but appropriately spooky at just the right moment.

Almost knocked a star off, though, because this collection lacks the little behind-the-scenes afterwords for each story. I loved that in the previous collection!

very fun book indeed. super nice and spooky for the holiday, and the art was polished and pleasing to look at. i only wish some of the stories were longer or there were more in the book, as it’s an extremely fast read. other than that keep it up adam! it’s cool to see someone you’ve followed for years grow and conquer new projects. i look forward to the next installment

The art: STUNNING.
The world building: incredible.
The stories: All of them had really interesting concepts and themes!!... but most of them I felt could have been executed better? Stronger? Most felt unresolved.

still a great reading experience. 3.5/5 eyeballs.

Great as always. I saw most of these on his Patreon, but that didn’t detract from the great art and creepy stories.

There’s always just something so mesmerising about Adam Ellis’s work. The art style is truly stunning and although I can’t say I always love the stories themselves, the way he tells them and pulls you into every single one is truly a wonder. It’s hard to pick favourites but I think mine were “the Sunken Express” and “Rumble Queen”, those two were the perfect mix of enthralling story and enchanting art for me.
Brb, gonna reread Bad Dreams in the Night now
