Rate this book
Hades and Persephone's love-struck misadventures continue in the second volume of this Greek tale-turned-relatable romantic comedy as seen on Webtoons!

Nothing says "opposites attract" like a Life Goddess and the King of the Dead - and after their truly Olympian meet-cute, who could blame Hades and Persephone for wanting a little time alone together? A night of exploring the Underworld brings them closer together, and it's all harmless flirting and long walks along the River Styx...until it turns out that Persephone can't leave, magically blocked from exiting the realm of the dead. It's as big a puzzle to her as it is to her antisocial new beau, but she and Hades will have to solve the mysterious imprisonment fast, because Persephone's absence has not gone unnoticed.

In the mortal world and above, Persephone's mother, Demeter, sets out on a justified rampage of maternal aggression, determined to locate her missing daughter. The gods love their drama - but if they don't tread carefully, what starts as a simple misunderstanding may lead to the world as they know it- flipped upside down.

Aside from some amusing slapstick with a magical barrier, this chapter of the Hades and Persephone retelling was lacking in any real action. I found my eyes glazing over a bit at times as everyone talked very earnestly to one another about their feelings and things that could be happening soon, but no one actually accomplished anything.

The art is nice, and Cerberus is cute, so I'll still give this a thumb's up for now, but I hope something happens next time around.

So, what happens when an overprotected young goddess accidentally ends up in the Underworld with the socially inept king of the domain, what could possibly go wrong? Punderworld (Volume Two) by author-artist Linda Sejic finds Persephone and Hades attempting to get the former out of the Underworld as Demeter begins looking for her daughter.

The main arc of this volume is Persephone and Hades’ attempts to get the former out of the Underworld and back among the living so she can return to work on keeping things alive, however whatever they try it doesn’t work. This leads Hades to make a sacred oath to find a way for Persephone to leave the Underworld to reassure her, however it now endangers the Underworld itself if he can’t fulfill it. The secondary arc followed Demeter as she looked for Persephone so her daughter would agree with her side of things like always only to find her missing, which leads her to Hestia’s abode leading to a very interesting discussion that explains things and sets things up for later. Sejic includes a potential foreshadowing of how she plans to mimic the myth but in a unique way will Biblical allusions. The art is fantastic and I’m just not saying that as a superfan of Linda Sejic’s work, but in this type of media if the art isn’t good then it doesn’t help the narrative. Overall, this was a very good continuation of the Sejic’s retelling of the Persephone and Hades myth.

Punderworld (Volume Two) continues a modern retelling of the well-known myth, but with characters that are socially awkward and that adds a slight to certain character dynamics.

I just love it, the illustration is absolutely gorgeous and I am thrilled that Hestia and Hecate had a larger part in this volume, they have my whole heart~

Lots of exposition in this one... It dragged for me. I still love the art style, but I wish there'd been more focus on Persephone and Hades together.

Also, slight publication issue: on one of the pages, when the nymphs are telling Demeter about Zeus and Hades at Olympus, there is a big red box that reads: "Need full layered art to make 100k letters." Methinks someone missed that in the final proofread.

I'll round my rating up to 4- I really hope the next installment comes out sooner.

I love a good Hades & Persephone retelling. This one is criminally underrated! It runs circles around the Lore Olympus series, and the art is absolutely gorgeous. Highly recommended, especially if you enjoy Greek mythology!

Not an overly innovative or creative take on the myth but yeah that's definitely a guy who wears banker clothes even on his day off; just wants the system to run smoothly, take his three headed dog on walks on his lunch break, and go home to his solar punk wife—

I just love this comic <3
The designs of the new characters are so cool.

Was a bit slow paced this one and I hope we don't have to wait so long again for vol 3 with this cliffhager.

I have been literally been waiting YEARS for this to become widely available!

Obviously, my shelves speak for me... I'm very biased/picky with my Hades and Persephone retellings. And this still takes the cake!

Housekeeping...

-Cerberus is a three headed Dalmatian! I CANNOT TELL YOU HOW HAPPY THIS MAKES ME😃.
-Most of the story is a shy goth guy and his sunshiny girl going on a walk through his realm, flirting up a storm.
*Very 2010's "meet me at the end of your street tonight, I'll bring my pens, you bring your iPod". If you know, you know 😜.
-Not Hades carrying around the cup Persephone gave him all those years ago, hoping he'd run into her again so he can have another chance 🥹.
*A metaphorical carrying of the torch... I love this 🖤.
*Also, our girl mentions now that it's broken, it looks like a pomegranate... and he gave it to her... OG mythology detail spotted 👀.
-Hades blushingly admits he adores the scent of lilies and mint.
*He also appreciates her contribution to the celebration.. more flowers and understands the nuances of life and death. Truly a renaissance man 🎩
*And then Persephone conjures up some on the spot 💐.

What a cliffhanger... also I forget how immersive a well painted/illustrated graphic novel can be. Every new panel that took place in a new page was just so saturated with color, the greens and blues in particular really stole the show.

Hades and Persephone are so cute!!! I loved the art and character design, but the only thing that I didn’t like was the fact that it’s too short. I loved the story, too. I think the art is slightly better here than in the first volume, and Hades here is ADORABLEEEEE!!!🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰. I also liked the concept of Persephone wondering if Hades actually loved her or if it was just a little play her mother had arranged to teach her the dangers of the underworld, and I liked the concept of the Styx oath Hades made. In conclusion, I loved it.

Reading Punderworld is always the dose of dopamine I need. The characters continue to develop and have authentic interactions with each other many of which are humorous. I just love both Hades and Persephone and can't wait to see their romance develop! The art is so beautiful and intricate which makes it quite a visual treat as well. Fair warning - this volume does end on a cliffhanger that leaves me quite sad I won't see a new volume for awhile. I simply can't recommend this comic enough (even to people who don't normally read comics)!

I don’t know what it was, but this volume of Punderworld felt really slow in pacing, also plot: nothing really happened. Also, I was really freaked out by seeing Cerberus without the hind legs of a dog, instead being like the black tentacles. I think I’ll soft DNF this series for now, just because of how long it took for this volume to come out and when the author has said they aren’t focusing on their other series.

This series might just have my favourite artwork that I’ve ever experienced in the graphic novel/comic format. It’s so beautifully well crafted and the colour choices are bold and exciting. As an artist/illustrator myself I can’t help but be in awe of how beautiful this is. The fact that the story of Hades and Persephone is also written in what feels like a new and exciting way just makes this even more of a wonderful reading experience. I would highly recommend for people who enjoy Greek mythology retellings and comic lovers alike.

The continuation was great! I actually read the web comic instead of it in print (hope that counts as reading). The author introduced the other gods very well. I never even heard of some of them (ex. Hestia, Styx, Eos, etc). I like how each god and goddess play as a role to the story instead of just as fillers. Can’t wait for the next sequel.

It's so interesting how Linda Šejić is taking the elements of Hades and Persephone's myth and using them in this story.

The character designs are perfect, especially Hecate and Hestia. Loved their depictions here. Hecate is one of my favorite characters from mythology and I enjoy seeing the ways various authors and artist decide to take her character.

Maybe I didn't like this as much as the first volume because there were too many characters taking up space...? I definitely want more Hades/Persephone focus, but there are hordes of characters in Greek mythology so I get it. I get it, but I don't have to like it.

Give me more awkward flirting and blushing Hades!

This was freaking amazing! I'm so glad she is continuing with the series. Very different than Lore Olympus. In this volume, Persephone is still in the underworld with Hades, getting to know him. Her mom is going crazy looking for her. Towards the ending was where things go crazy and now I just need volume 3 to come out!!

I read the first Volume and got myself a big tablet to appreciate the art back in 2024. I went through the Blood Stain series at a bullet train speed and finally found Volume 2 of Punderworld at my library!
I love the art and Sejic's take on this Greek mythology. Love, love how fun Persephone and Hades are in this version. Super excited for the next part of the story!
DID I MENTION THE ARTTT♥️🔥🔥

The first two volumes are pretty much prep and setup so this rating may be more of an anticipation rating. I think this series is funny and adorable, and I really did the art style so even if it takes another five years, I'll be here for volume 3. (Please don't take another five years...)

I definitely should've re-read volume 1 as it's been 5 years! It felt like we didn't get as much Hades and Persephone as I would've liked; there was a lot of focus on side characters building up the coming plot. Hopefully the next volumes will come quickly

It was quite nice, although story wise not much has happened.

There were interesting design choices for gods and mythical beings, and I liked the section explaining the reasoning for the designs.

I am intrigued about the future story progression.
