The LitRPG fantasy smash hit phenomenon and New York Times bestseller, DUNGEON CRAWLER CARL, is now a graphic novel for the very first time!
The Apocalypse WILL be televised!
You know what’s worse than breaking up with your girlfriend? Getting stuck on a sadistic alien game show with her cat. Join Carl and Princess Donut as they try to survive the end of the world — or just get to the next level of a trap-filled fantasy dungeon.
With vibrant art done by Laurel Pursuit to bring action-packed battles to life, join as Carl fights his way through the dungeon in heart-speckled underwear.
And of course, the grizzly scenes are only balanced with the incredibly fluffy, wide-eyed stare of its main character, Princess Donut.
Matt Dinniman is the best-selling writer and artist from Gig Harbor, Washington. He is the published author of dozens of short stories and a gaggle of books. In addition, his art publications—from greeting cards to stationery kits to calendars—can be found in boutique and stationery shops around the world. Also, he strongly feels like a pretentious twat when he writes about himself in third person.
Technically I read the chapters (1-14) on Webtoons but that’s what is being collected in the book so I’ll count that as finishing the book. This was a great adaptation! Carl looks a little younger than I imagined him when reading the original novel but Donut’s design is adorable and the story does a great job of highlighting the funny beats and keeping the emotional bits as impactful as the original. That’s all I can ask for. It was great seeing all the characters in a visual format.
As I understand it, the graphic novel is episodes 1-14 of the WebToon series. Currently, up to episode 30 is available on WebToon--for the main series readers, The graphic novel is incredibly faithful to the novel and tons of fun, but minus one star for only covering about 1/4th of the first book. Still a rollicking good time for DCC fans.
Really enjoyed seeing all the characters imagined! I'm a big fan and thought reading the graphic novel is an excellent experience, but skipping over the novel is a mistake. Use this as an "addition to", not an "instead of".
I really enjoyed the comic version. There are some differences between the comic and Book 1, however none are too glaring that it makes it difficult to read. It does contain Episode 1-14 of the Webtoon.
5 ⭐ Read weekly on the WEBTOON app. This is a GREAT adaptation of the first book and the art style is so so cute! Stays loyal to the storyline all the while providing a wonderful visual aid for the dungeon and it's wacky ass inhabitants. Really helped fill in some blanks that my imagination wasn't creative enough for.
P.S. The AI is still as sassy as ever, now in color!
