The Christmas Cure

Rate this book
A cozy holiday rom-com in which ER physician Dr. Libby Munro travels back in time to the previous Christmas during her hometown’s rumored-to-be-magical Christmas tree lighting ceremony, where she must confront her past choices—while navigating an unexpected romance that could rewrite her future.

He wasn’t on her Christmas wish list, but he’s just what Santa ordered.

When Libby Munro returns to her hometown of Harmony Hills—a holiday-obsessed village that feels like stepping into a Christmas card—she’s longing for an escape. A respite from her hectic job as a big-city emergency room doctor, and a change of scenery after a painful break-up. Maybe Harmony Hills’s festive charm will help her rediscover the holiday spirit.

What she doesn’t expect is Liam the dreamy, green-eyed owner of the local bakery, whose smile rivals the glow of the town’s legendary Christmas tree. Or a run-in with Liam’s excitable pot-bellied pig, Mary Piggins, at the rumoured-to-be-magical tree-lighting ceremony. Libby’s knocked unconscious in the chaos and wakes up to find herself thrust into the specifically, to Christmastime, one year ago.

As she relives last Christmas, Libby begins to wonder if this is a second chance to change her life. With every snowflake-filled moment, the undeniable spark between her and Liam grows brighter. But if she’s going to rewrite her future, she’ll need to figure out what changes the past is asking her to make—and whether she’s ready to embrace the pull of home, and the promise of true love.

Perfect for fans of In a Holidaze and One Day in December, The Christmas Cure is the holiday rom-com that will make you believe in the magic of Christmas.

In this novel about family, community, love and acceptance, a young doctor leaves her small town to find a more stimulating atmosphere at a large hospital in Toronto. Libby seems to have found it all - a fast paced career in emergency medicine, close friends and colleagues, and a relationship with a handsome surgeon. However, when her mom experiences a health issue, Libby returns home to help. Once there she begins to appreciate the very things she once hoped to leave behind.

The Christmas Cure is a warm, twinkly holiday romance from Canadian author Karma Brown, writing here as Kristine Winters. Set in a fictional small town straight out of a Hallmark movie, it’s packed with nosy-but-lovable locals, festive charm, and—most importantly—Mary Piggins, the sweater-wearing, sugar-obsessed pig who absolutely steals the show.

The Setup: Libby, a Toronto ER doctor, returns home for the holidays only to find herself stuck in a time loop. As she relives the same day again and again, she’s forced to confront what she truly wants: the high-pressure city life she’s built, or the slower, sweeter rhythm of her hometown… and maybe even Liam, the dimpled tree farmer/baker who is basically the human embodiment of a cinnamon roll.

This story is light, pun-filled, and delightfully small-town. Liam was an instant favorite for me—soft, steady, and swoon-worthy in all the right ways. The time-loop element, though, felt a bit tacked on; since so much of the book unfolds in the past, I often forgot it was even part of the plot.

Still, the overall experience is charming and comfortingly predictable in the best holiday-romance way. If you’re looking for a very closed-door, feel-good read to enjoy with a blanket, twinkle lights, and a mug of warm apple cider, this one will fit right into your festive TBR.

If you are still looking for the perfect Christmas read that feels like a warm hug and is Hallmark Movie coded…this is the one 💗🎄

𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑪𝒉𝒓𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒎𝒂𝒔 𝑪𝒖𝒓𝒆 𝒃𝒚 𝑲𝒓𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒆 𝑾𝒊𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒔 is a cozy rom-com with a thoughtful twist. When ER physician Libby Munro unexpectedly slips back to the previous Christmas, she’s given a rare chance to reflect on the choices that shaped her year, while also opening herself up to new connections, second chances, and a quietly blooming romance.

This is the perfect book to curl up with by the fire with some hot cocoa and maybe a cute pet piggy too! (You’ll fall in love with Mary Piggins 🐷 she steals the show!)

A cozy holiday story with a touch of magic! Returning to her idyllic hometown of Harmony Hills and its renowned Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, Dr. Libby Munro finds herself transported back in time to the previous Christmas, where she’s forced to confront her life and choices.

I absolutely love magical realism and alternate reality stories, and I thought the setup here was so clever. But I struggled with how much of the story took place in the alternate timeline. The majority of the book is spent there, and I really wanted more time in the present — or at least some sort of pull between the two timelines.

Because while you do see her relationship with local baker Liam develop, the progression wasn’t technically real, if you know what I mean. In the end, it made the HEA in the present timeline feel rushed and a little unsatisfying. And since the magical timeline is set when Libby is still with her ex, it felt a bit annoying to rehash the inevitable breakup on page.

That said, I could totally envision this as a Hallmark movie! It’s such a breezy, heartwarming, lighthearted story. Sometimes that’s exactly what you need. And of course, I have to mention Mary Piggins the pig. She was just as adorable as you’d expect.

3.75 rounded up to 4 stars The Christmas Cure is a sweet holiday romance written by Canadian author Karma Brown under the pan name of Kristine Winters. Set in a fictional Canadian small town, this book has strong Hallmark vibes, complete with townsfolk who know everything about everyone, a cozy, festive vibe ... and Mary Piggins, the sweater-wearing pig who loves sweets ... naturally.

The Gist: Libby is a Toronto ER doctor who heads home to her small town for the holidays and finds herself in a time loop as she tries to figure out what she wants out of life. Is it in Toronto with her high stress job and getting over her recent break-up? Or in the small town where she grew up with Liam, the hunky tree farmer/baker who has dimples for days?

This was a cute, easy read with lots of small-town vibes and punny humour galore. I adored Liam who was the perfect cinnamon roll of a love interest, but the time loop element (which often isn't my favourite plot device) felt unnecessary here and honestly, I forgot there was a time slip element since much of the book is set in the past.

Delightfully predictable, this very closed-door romance will be a nice addition to your festive reading as you snuggle under a blanket in your cozy reading spot with some warmed apple cider at the ready.

Disclaimer: Thanks to Simon and Schuster Canada for the complimentary advanced copy of this book which was given in exchange for my honest review.

Warm and comforting like a warm cup of hot chocolate on a winter day.

Fell in love with characters quickly. Very quirky, funny and surprising. Didn’t see the big twist coming and went into it blind without reading the synapses. I would recommend doing it this way! Loved how much they adore Christmas in this little town.

I loved this as my first Christmas read of the season🎅🏻

I just wanted to start by saying thank you Simon and Schuster for this advanced copy of The Christmas Cure! I adored being able to read this cute Christmas book!

Think Gilmore Girls meets Hallmark movies and that is this book in a nutshell! You have the cute town of Harmony Hills that are Christmas buffs but also celebrates every season to the max! Mixed with a back in time trope where the main character looks to change her future and you have the makings of a great book!

I love a good Christmas book with a cosy small town vibe and all the Christmas spirit you can have and this book did not disappoint! I loved the town of Hamoney Hills and all the cute side characters. If you love Christmas as much as I do you would love the descriptions and the little touches of Christmas peppered throughout this book. I’m a Christmas nut and enjoyed these little elements, especially the elf references!

The main character Libby was so much fun to read about I loved her character development throughout this book and just her personality you were rooting for her the whole time! If you are looking for a cosy Christmas book look no further this is the book for you! It’s only July and I think I've found one of my favourite Christmas books of the year!

This was a super sweet and charming small town holiday romance that sees a Toronto ER doctor returning home for Christmas, hitting her head and waking up one year in the past. If you like time loops stories, Hallmark movies, big-hearted, holiday loving families and towns, plus a swoony dimpled baker MMC, this book is sure to delight. Karma Brown writing as Kristine Winters pulled off the perfect cozy, lighthearted and funny holiday romance. Be sure to look for it when it hits shelves in October!

Following a painful break-up, Toronto ER doctor Libby Munro needs both a change of scenery and time off from her hectic schedule so she escapes to her small holiday-obsessed hometown of Harmony Hills in the days leading up to Christmas. Libby is looking forward to spending time with her parents and younger sister and hopes that the town's festive charm will get her in the holiday spirit but what she doesn't expect is to be charmed by Liam, the owner of the town's bakery and of a potbellied pig named Mary Piggins.

At Harmony Hills' rumoured-to-be-magical tree lighting ceremony, Libby is knocked unconscious when she falls during a chaotic run-in with Mary Piggins and when she wakes up it's the previous year at Christmas. As she relives last Christmas, Libby can't deny the spark that's growing between her and Liam and wonders if this is a chance to change her life.

This is a cozy holiday rom-com (with Hallmark vibes and a time travel twist) about unexpected romance, confronting past choices and the magic of Christmas. Loved the Canadian setting in a small town in Ontario and the pig is adorable!

When Libby Munro’s sister informs her she’s getting married, Libby returns home to the small town of Harmony Hills for the holidays. Returning to her home town is a much-needed escape from her hectic job as an emergency room doctor and her recent break-up, and she soon meets Liam, the local baker, and his pot-bellied pig, Mary Piggins. However, after a run-in with Mary Piggins at the magical tree lighting ceremony, Libby is knocked unconscious and wakes up one year in the past. As she relives her Christmas past, she needs to figure out how to rewrite her future.

As someone with multiple Christmas pigs in their holiday decor, the cover of this holiday book immediately grabbed my attention with a festive pig on it! This time travel Christmas story reminded me a bit of “In a Holidaze” by Christina Lauren (which I also enjoyed) and it’s such a fun book! The characters were charming and likable, and the countless Christmas activities made for such a festive read. This is a perfect book for the holidays season!

✨This was my first holiday read of the year, and it did not disappoint. I love a sweet, cozy Christmas read with lots of charm, and this was just that. I loved the small town setting and the big-hearted cast of characters. The story sparkles with that Hallmark holiday magic, and I didn’t want it to end.

✨I paired my print copy with the audio from @spotify, and I absolutely adored Nikki Massoud’s narration. It was a truly delightful reading experience.

🌿Read if you like:
✨Cozy, small-town romance
✨Time loops
✨Canadian settings
✨Festive holiday cheer
✨Closed door love stories
✨Close knit families
✨Mischievous pot-bellied pigs 🐷

INTERESTING NOTE: This is the author’s first holiday novel, but she has written several under the name Karma Brown. I will definitely be checking out some of those titles, and I hope we see more holiday reads from her as well.

I love a good holiday romance read and this one was definitely that. I loved it even though I didn’t quite understand how her going back in time would work and if she would remember the whole year. At the beginning I was definitely stuck on the technical details but once I let go of that, I really enjoyed the book. Liam and Libby were definitely the cutest and I loved Mary Piggins. The beginning of the book really made me think about Lexi and Jackson (aka Libby and Austin) and I don’t know if this was intentional but I loved it. Not the characters together though (in the show and in this book). Anyway this was a great holiday read full of Christmas cheer and I completely and utterly fell in love with this small town and all the people in it.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this book.

The Christmas Cure is the perfect holiday read if you love small-town charm, heartwarming romance, and just the right sprinkle of Christmas magic. Kristine Winters weaves together a cozy, heartfelt story that made me want to curl up by the tree with hot cocoa and not put the book down.

The characters felt genuine and layered, with just enough tension and personal growth to keep me invested in their journey. The holiday setting added an extra sparkle, bringing warmth and joy to the story without feeling overdone.

It’s the kind of book that leaves you smiling, a little misty-eyed, and ready to believe in love and second chances. If you’re looking to add a cozy, romantic read to your holiday TBR, this one is a must.

Loved this! Kristine Winters is a pen name for author, Karma Brown, and this is a different genre for the author, but I'm here for it! This gave me everything I wanted in a holiday romance...

Cute small town, Christmas time full of all of the fun holiday activities, two main characters that you can't help but love, sweet romance and a guaranteed happily ever after. This particular story also featured a mischievous pot bellied pig and a time loop element. I'm not always a fan of time loop stories, but this one really worked for me! I thought it was heartfelt and fun, it was quite humorous and super cozy. So good!

Overall very cute Christmas read! Everything is very Christmasy down to every little detail. Libby is a physician and works in a big city but comes back to her small hometown around Christmas time. Straight up hallmark movie in a book, Libby goes back in time, has some big realizations and makes some much needed changes in her life. Will she stay in Christmas past or go back to the present? Little magical realism. It’s funny as well. Mary Piggins- we love her! Cozy family vibes. Small town Christmas competition and holiday events. If you want a cute cozy Christmas read that’s super quick to get through- this one’s for you. Not life changing but just the vibes for the season

This is a different genre for this author aka Karma Brown and I am here for it. What a cute plot with entertaining characters and a perfect town that celebrates all things Christmas. Oh and an adorable pet pig! Libby is back in her hometown for a short visit when she falls and suffers a head injury resulting in time reversing to exactly one year prior. As she confronts her past and present she begins to see what she thought was important is maybe not how she feels now and she has to make a lot of life changing decisions. This book was well written and engaging. The descriptive writing helps you enjoy all the hot chocolate, Christmas tree smells, and cinnamon candy canes. It is a great book to add to your Christmas reading list and it would make a perfect Hallmark movie!

uhmmm… yah know it was a christmas book!! and it was fun and silly until fun and silly became a little too confusing.

eeks
- love love love the idea of an er nurse and small town baker
- a pet pig feels crazy enough to work

icks
- I wanted to dnf many times
- the plot is a revolving door of thing happens to libby, libby talks about what she should do, libby then continues to do the opposite of what she should do”
- was actually so so so confusing for no reason? it could have been because all of the writing feels like a long text message
- cheating trope?? ish??

anyway- if you want a silly albeit confusing story with a sickening sweet ending, this one’s for yah!! one star!!

Много ми хареса, изключително приятна, коледна история със забавни моменти и нежна романтика. Имаше момент, в който Либи ме ядоса с нерешителността си и глупавите си постъпки, но накрая всичко приключи добре, така че нервите се преживяха бързо.
