Rooftop culture might seem cool when you’re just watching clips on social media, but trying to live without your human rights is way worse than working a dead-end job. You can’t rent an apartment, go to the clubs, or get any kind of legit employment. The only way to make it as a mujina is to get into the assassin biz, and that all but guarantees you an imminent expiration date. But with badasses like Ubume and Tenka as outlier examples, will Junko end up giving up her rights to get out of the daily grind?
Inio Asano (浅野いにお, Asano Inio) is a Japanese cartoonist. He is known for his character-driven stories and his detailed art-style, making him one of the most influential manga author of his generation. Asano was born in 1980 and produced his first amateur comics as a teenager. His professional debut happened in 2000 in the pages of the magazine Big Comic Spirits. Since then, he has collaborated with most of the major Japanese magazines of seinen manga (comics for a mature audience). Among Asano's internationally acclaimed works are: the psychological horror Nijigahara Holograph (2003-2005); the drama Solanin (2005-2006); the existentialistic slice-of-life Goodnight Punpun (2007-2013); the erotic A Girl on the Shore (2009-2013); the sci-fi Dead Dead Demon's Dededede Destruction (2014-2022).
La historia funciona mejor en el plano corto (los problemas de los personajes y sus dinámicas) que en el panorámico (la suspensión de incredulidad de los mujinas, su encaje en sociedad, la persecución de los crímenes petardea mucho). Pero además del dibujo (que no una narrativa a ratos sin demasiado sentido en el encadenamiento de planos) me gusta mucho cómo Asano trata temas contemporáneos como la fama en el mundo de las redes sociales y la lucha de clases en los tiempos del capitalismo tardío. Además la extravagancia hortera y el mal gusto de ciertos diseños/estampas le da mordiente.
Averne d Asano riesce i storie come Mujina into the Deep 3. Asano riesce con le sue tavole a mostrarci la crudeltà di un mondo che sembra molto diverso dal nostro ma che in realtà è molto vicino. Ci mostra con forza in questo 3 volume la difficoltà e la pesantezza della parola famiglia e della parola dovere. Tutti i personaggi hanno una ottima caratterizzazione e dimostrano sempre un background importante. Onestamente sto adorando questa serie
Things are starting to get serious. Finding out just a tiny bit of Ubume's past is like a kick to the head. It is very similar to things happening today even. The one thing I do like about this series is what it is exploring between rights and non rights and everything else that it entails. Considering that we are slowly moving in that direction with all the technology coming out. It is like a look into what could be a very possible future for us all.
