Stories From a Stranger: Every person has a story.

Rate this book
Discover 100 deeply personal stories—covering universal experiences such as love and heartbreak, growth and resilience—brought to life by the creator of the wildly popular TikTok account @HunterProsper.

Every stranger has a story, and we’re more alike that we are different.

These are two statements that Hunter Prosper knows to be true. Hunter is an ICU nurse by trade and loves his job, where he feels honored to help people and bear witness to the full spectrum of patient’s emotions and experiences. He’s shared jokes and philosophies; heard about their first loves and deepest regrets; and sometimes, offered company for their final moments. The work taught him to love everyone around him—no matter their differences.

In 2020, everything changed. His days were consumed by keeping patients alive, many of whom spent their final moments in isolation, unable to talk. The ICU lost its humanity. When a patient close to his age passed away, Hunter reached a breaking point. He began using his phone as a diary to record his feelings and patient’s stories, and eventually stories from strangers he encountered on the street, becoming a voice for the voiceless. Over time, this turned into Stories from a Stranger, a social media project that quickly resonated with millions craving genuine human connection.

With nearly 10 million followers across platforms, Hunter has built a community deeply invested in storytelling, compassion, and the universal threads that link us all. Now, in the Stories from a Stranger book, Hunter expands upon this global phenomenon with over 100 brand-new interviews. These deeply personal stories span diverse ages, races, genders, and life experiences, exploring universal themes like love, loss, pain, and joy. From heart-pounding revelations to heart-wrenching confessions, each account reaffirms our shared humanity with raw honesty and emotional depth.

Featuring stunning photographs of the storytellers and a reader-friendly, pick-up-any-page design, Stories from a Stranger is more than a collection of stories—it’s a celebration of what it means to be human. Whether you’re drawn to tales of sorrow, inspiration, or resilience, this book will remind you how personal stories have the power to connect us all and strengthen the bonds we share.

This! A collector’s copy! I came across this author through Instagram. I loved how he was able to turn his page into a book. I pre-ordered this from Amazon and devoured every single page. The book looks like your typical high school yearbook, but it’s not. It’s a collection of every human being who shared their deepest secrets, thoughts, and experiences. Complete with snapshots and handwritten notes.📝

This was just a feel-good book. It was a collection of stories that come from the heart. A reminder that everyone of us has a story to tell. That each of us have a purpose. That each of us deserves to be seen and heard.

Listening to people's stories is something I’ve always enjoyed, more recently its becoming more of a hobby. I’ve lost a sense of direction in my life many times and I feel like listening to peoples stories is the only thing that has kept me on track when my life felt derailed. This book is exactly what I’ve been looking for, a series of people who have gone through extremes and their life lessons. I love the book, it just feels like it gave me so much wisdom and so much to live for. I am forever grateful I was able to read this book and hope to find more books like this in the future.

I feel like everyone needs to read this book, and if not the whole book, just parts can be beneficial in putting perspective into what is going on in others lives. Some of the stories were raw, and I applaud the author for choosing to feel things rather than going numb.

I first came across Hunter Prosper on TikTok, where his questions and the heartfelt stories he drew from everyday people quickly went viral. So when I discovered he had transformed these encounters into a book, I was immediately intrigued! 🌟

The book is a collection of interviews with ordinary people, yet the result is deeply extraordinary, where each story reveals a moment of love, heartbreak, resilience, loneliness, or hope. For me, the true power of the book lies in its intimacy: universal questions open the door to incredibly personal truths. The accounts are unfiltered and tender, often heartbreakingly honest. They’re the quiet stories people hold close, the kind only shared when someone has earned their trust. And while the structure can sometimes make the book feel slightly fragmented, the emotional impact and wide range of experiences make up for it.

The book is organised into ten sections, each exploring:

1. Who was your greatest love, and why did you fall in love with them?
2. What did you learn from your greatest heartbreak?
3. What’s the most beautiful thing you’ve been told?
4. What’s the most painful thing you’ve been told?
5. What’s the loneliest you’ve ever felt?
6. What do you see when you look in the mirror?
7. What’s something you wish you would’ve said?
8. What’s the greatest decision you’ve made?
9. What was your hardest goodbye?
10. What’s the greatest lesson you’ve learned from life?

Each section adds depth, revealing how people love, grieve, heal, and search for meaning. Some stories are uplifting, some are devastating, but all of the stories felt honest.

This book is a beautiful and powerful reminder that every person carries a story that is worth hearing. What surprised me most was how many of the stories began to feel familiar, whether it was echoing emotions that I’ve felt or experiences I’ve seen in the people around me. It left me feeling more compassionate, more reflective, and more aware of the quiet courage strangers carry every day.

Although I don’t follow Hunter on Instagram, I do occasionally come across his reels. I have watched heartfelt stories shared by strangers and how our words and actions can cause irreparable harm to others. When I found out that Hunter had published a book, I thought I would give it a try. The book is quite thought provoking, with a simple language and different sections where 10 strangers share their stories in each of those sections.

It was not an easy read to be honest. The book made me realize how cruel the world can get and the resilience shown by humans. I finished the book with a heavy heart. I hope the people mentioned in the book are doing well.

Good coffee table book. I love the concept of reading strangers just talking about their lives. In a time when people are so divided, it’s a really positive venture. It’s funny because I know a younger, less jaded version of myself would be totally obsessed. I used to read those PostSecrets, the anonymous postcards. This book kind of reminds me of those so there’s an aspect of it that is almost nostalgic. 💜

A simple collection of short stories from everyday people is surprisingly profound. When Hunter asked questions like - "What's the most painful thing you've been told?" Strangers opened up and talked about things they had never revealed to intimate family members, much less themselves. I found myself reading a few stories before going to bed each night and letting these voices ferment in my mind. I loved the photos, too. This book is a wonderful reminder of how complex all of our lives are and how we need to give grace to each other and ourselves.

This is a popular instagram account where the author interviews everyday people about a question that impacted their life. This is a collection of exclusive stories from many strangers regarding many questions such as who was their greatest love and why did they fall in love, when did they feel the loneliest, what did their greatest heartbreak tech them, what was the best/most painful decision they've made, etc. As expected, many heartfelt stories from such diverse people ends up providing great impact and motivation.

I kept this book on my shelf and reached for it whenever I felt low. Reading it feels like therapy. When you are feeling vulnerable, it lets you step into someone’s most personal, emotional moments and form a real connection with strangers you will never meet in your life. You get to cry with them through their heartbreaks and tragedies, and smile at their accomplishments and the beautiful moments that make life worth living.

Interesting ‘slice of life’ collection of interviews with random strangers, collated under headings like ‘what’s the hardest thing someone told you’. Less of a ‘read straight through’ and more of a ‘coffee table’ type book, in that you pick a few vignettes to read then set it aside, to be opened up again at a later date. The stories I read ranged from inspiring and insightful to challenging and sad.

I had the chance to read about so many wonderful strangers who, by the end, no longer felt like strangers. Some of the stories truly touched me and hit close to home. The work Hunter does is genuinely precious! I sincerely hope there will be more volumes to come, because the voice of “ordinary” people is worth hearing, as I believe everyone can be extraordinary in their own way.

This is like chicken soup for the soul for adults, except they aren’t trying too hard because it’s based off verbal exchanges. Such a great project that the author did ❤️ I think that because he is a nurse and because his intention was also to mend his heart it’s shown in how the book was executed.

This is a very nice collection of real-life anecdotes from real people about the events in their lives that affected how they live their lives.
Nice stories, sad stories, inspirational stories that can make us think about our own lives.
It was nice to spend a little time in the heads of others whose life-changing events can have some impact on our own.

Hunter is a great person to follow on social media. His interviews are often touching and thought provoking. In the same way, this book has lots of thoughtful stories and lessons learned. I was impressed by how he is able to break those interviews into something unique and human in something as short as a few paragraphs. I really enjoyed this.

Good questions and good answers that make you think about how you would answer the same question. And how do you behave as a consequence of the answers you read?
A book that makes you think about the little decisions, the world we live in, our interactions, and that it is enjoyable at the same time.

This book cements the idea that the human experience is a shared one. The experience of one is shared by the collective.

I found myself relating to strangers, feeling for them, and sometimes, their story is one I've been in myself.

This is a beautiful compilation. Thank you, Hunter!

An ICU nurse include snippets of his conversations with people from all over the country. Realizing the brief chapters Purposely random, I still didn’t feel a connection to many of the stories. It’s an quick read that makes it easy to pick up and and then set aside
