tokinaga. wow. he has turned into someone very interesting. he is the one who can kill the gods, his power is finite, HE WANTS TO DIE... is scared of dying... yet is turned on by it. ohhhhhh boy. this has made things so much more complicated and i cant wait to learn more. This volume felt like a placeholder. It even starts with a department meeting that summarizes the plot up to this volume. The story starts to go somewhere interesting as the volume goes on, but it feels like the precursor to the next volume.

The story so far
Gods have descended upon Tokyo, reducing the entire city to an uninhabitable danger zone. When a young girl by G the name of Waka peers through the fence surrounding the zone, she is approached by a wary researcher named Tokinaga. Waka claims that she's come all the way from Saga in order to find her friend.

Obikawa, otherwise known as Orokapi, the snake god, has finally been reunited with his best friend, the god Volov. But it soon becomes all too clear that his friend's drug addiction has pushed him beyond saving, so Orokapi does the only thing he can-he devours Volov, absorbing him into his own body.

Meanwhile, Tokinaga tries to strike a deal with Alura in a desperate attempt to release Waka from her control. He successfully manages to free Waka, but only after being forced to use his tightly kept secret as a bargaining chip with Alura. Now that Alura knows the truth, there's no telling what may happen next...

I originally purchased this series on a bit of a whim and although I am not fully convinced, I find myself continuing to buy and read it. There must be something there that keeps drawing me back in.

The premise is simple, Gods have appeared and are blighting the World. They have the ability to kill with a single glance and areas they have 'infected' are quarantined off for everyone's safety. The gods have congregated in Japan, causing much concern leading to the construction of a specific research team.

The Anti-God research Institute is desperately trying to find a defence against the invaders whilst tackling a few nearby Gods, now with the help of the befriended Snake God. With Volov defeated, the institute feel the tide has shifted but Tokinaga has a secret which could change everything.

It is frantic, occasionally disjointed, and I am not sure where the story is going. New characters are being introduced, which implies there is a long journey still ahead, although the death rate is pretty high too, so who knows! There have been a few reveals and some additional backstory which is bringing the story together. This volume gets 3 3/4 stars.

PT Tão desiludido com este.

Esta série sempre andou na corda bamba entre ser excelente e descambar completamente, mas acabava por conseguir entregar sempre algo que compensava. Infelizmente, este volume é a exceção.

Sinto que a história anda em círculos. Já não há verdadeiro ritmo nem entusiasmo na narrativa. O arco mais recente tem estado muito focado no Obikawa Kiyoshi — uma personagem que eu simplesmente não suporto, completamente insuportável — e o Tokinaga, que era uma das minhas personagens favoritas, está a tornar-se igualmente mau.

Não sei… estas personagens parecem saídas de uma casa de malucos.

Não sou de abandonar séries a meio, mas estou seriamente a considerar fazê-lo desta vez, especialmente tendo em conta que ainda está em publicação e nem sequer se sabe quantos volumes terá no final.

EN So disappointed with this one.

This series has always tiptoed between being great and completely falling apart, but it usually managed to deliver something worthwhile in the end. Unfortunately, this volume is the exception.

I feel like the story is just going in circles. There’s no real sense of momentum or excitement anymore. The recent arc has been heavily focused on Obikawa Kiyoshi — a character I genuinely can’t stand, completely insufferable — and Tokinaga, who used to be one of my favourites, is becoming just as bad.

I don’t know… these characters feel like they belong in a madhouse.

I’m not someone who usually drops a series halfway through, but I’m seriously considering it this time, especially since it’s still ongoing and there’s no clear idea of how many volumes it will have.

After God volume 7 is a little disappointing, but mostly the first half. The beginning is just a recounting of all the events of the first 6 volumes which I think we could have skipped. The only really important information was the snake god was excluded and that those in charge think that since they have the snake god, they don’t need Waka. Because people in charge are stupid. Not necessarily because of sending Waka away, but because they easily trust they have the snake god in control. The ending is much more interesting, but still not as interesting to read or as good artwork as the last volume.
