My reaction to each Team Up Missions volume seems to alternate between, "That was cute," and "Wow, every chapter might have been the most charming things I've ever seen." This one gears towards the latter, and has some of my favorite MHA stories ever!

Kacchan is my favorite, and Yoko Akiyama portrays him so perfectly. I'm always a happy camper when he's featured heavily in these volumes, which is definitely the case for this one! But I can't emphasize enough that Akiyama depicts almost every character extremely loveably. I'm such a fan of her work on this franchise.

My thoughts on each chapter, hidden for spoiler purposes:

Gentle in Jail

This one made me emotional, and gave me so much respect for Gentle! The main series is a mixed bag at depicting systemic issues, but this chapter made me feel so much sympathy for the criminals who really are mostly victims of circumstance. I hope Anrakuki also is able to put his life back together after his sentence.

The story also emphasizes how much the suppression of quirks plays into control, as people basically have built-in weapons. Making sure the prisoners don't use them is top priority, and it's interesting when that may play into an infringement on their rights.

Also Anrakuki thinking Gentle is an old man because of his white hair and distinguished aura and then finding out he's younger than him is hilarious.

My rating: 10/10

Nejiri in Wondertown

Nejiri is too adorable, and I LOVE seeing her teamed up with Bakugo. This story is an absolute delight. The way the characters interact is precious, especially with regards to how Bakugo genuinely tries to stifle his annoyance to accommodate Nejiri's boundless curiosity. It also demonstrates that a lot of his anger issues stem from being easily overstimulated, which feels very true to character.

Also: Bakugo is SO SMART! Not just battle intelligence either, he's just plain brilliant. The fact he was able to crack a code based on the English alphabet by knowing which letters were most and least common? He has every right to being as egotistical as he is.

The cleaning witches are also absolutely adorable characters. Love them, love their designs.

My rating: 11/10.

Tiger's Boot Camp Plus

This...is one of the absolute funniest things I've ever read.

For one thing, seeing more of Tiger is always a plus, one of my favorite members of the Pussycats and an all-around delightful character.

For another, it's an unexpected treat to see Izuku, Katsuki, Kirishima, and Kaminari in drill sergeant roles; something that, as students, they're more often on the receiving end of. Of course Katsuki takes to it INSTANTLY, and makes for a perfectly terrifying fitness instructor.

The unique neuroticism displayed by Deku and Kirishima is absolutely hilarious too, Izuku acting unhinged when compelled to be "harsher" to trainees and Kirishima behaving like an overly energized greyhound.

The whole chapter just has so much energy and chaos, I laughed outloud.

Possible point deduction for the would-be villain unrealistically gaining muscles in three days, but I like to think it's more symbolic because he gained confidence and views himself more positively. Plus it's too funny not to get an A+ from me.

The Wondrous Tale of Momoyao's Education on Sales

I love my girls, and Momo is so cute. This story focuses on a chaotic shopping spree during a sale, and it's so funny and charming, in a way that real-life retail chaos almost never is.

Plus we get to see Mount Lady out of uniform, and she's so gorgeous.

My rating: 10/10

Phantom Thief

I'm always happy to see my boy Monoma, and Izuku's such an endearing fanboy in this one. Well, he always is, but it's especially cute in this chapter.

It focuses on Izuku, All Might, Monoma, and Tetsutetsu tracking down knockoff toys, which gives Izuku the perfect opportunity to show off his ability to sniff out inauthentic All Might merch and Monoma to show the difference between inspiration and ripoffs with his copying power.

We also see some adorable toy-inspired characters at the toy company they're helping.

The twist villain is super obvious, but the narrative seems aware of that and even pokes fun at it a little. It's a lot of fun.

My rating: 9.5/10

Aquarium

!!!! ERI!!! Precious angel. Just an incredibly endearing story about the kids keeping Eri occupied while Koda and company track down missing aquarium animals.

Koda is also adorable in this, it made me love him even more than I did already. Such a pure little turtle-dragon-dinosaur guy.

Bonus points for Katsuki pretending to be a sea urchin, that's just really cute to me.

The Perfect Shot

Class 1-A gets their pictures taken, and it's really cute and characterful.

Izuku seems happy to dress as Mirko. Love the confidence, king.

My rating: 10/10.

Chapter 46.1 / One-Shot: Endeavor's Mission

I don't want to give Endeavor any more credit than necessary, but I love seeing my boys rising to the occasion. Seeing them face off against grown pro heroes always makes me feel maternal.

This one ties into one of the movies I actually haven't seen yet, and I can't wait to watch it!

My rating: 9.5/10

Now I have to wait all the way until July to get my hands on Team Up Missions volume eight! But I'm just glad I'll get to read some more.

Such a charming series that adds a lot to love about these wonderful characters.
