Kyuta’s having a hard time bouncing back after being attacked at the vampire bar, so Hina decides to drag him to some cute animal therapy at the zoo. But things definitely don’t go as planned when Mao’s voice actor crashes their date! Ordinarily, Hina would be thrilled to bump into her fave, but Rinya has too many secrets and asks too many questions for her to enjoy the occasion. Not to mention that his presence is ruining any benefit the cute animals had on Kyuta’s mood!
鈴木ジュリエッタ Suzuki Julietta is a Japanese manga artist born in the Fukuoka Prefecture. Her pen name comes from a character named Julietta Sakamoto from the seinen manga series, Air Master. She likes cats, koalas, and sharks. According to an interview with Hakusensha, she first started drawing when she was in her second year of elementary school in a sketchbook of Japonica. During her free time, she meets her friends, goes for a drink, or out for a meal. She states that although she doesn't read much, she enjoys works by Junji Itō. Her favourite character is Ashia and mentions that male characters are easier to draw in general.
Now that’s more like it. This volume goes hard on both the simmering romantic tension between Hina and Amanatsu as well as the issues with Amanatsu’s blood. And it throws in the handsome VA behind Hina’s favourite to boot.
The quiet war over tickets to a tiger hugging event that pits Hina’s affection for Amanatsu versus Rinyu, who voices Mao, is a lot of fun. Amanatsu can be a little mean, but he’s clearly flat-out jealous here. And Hina resisting Rinyu is terribly sweet.
Rinyu attempts to understand Hina during a stamp rally in Ikebukuro (which I just visited, humblebrag, but I assure you it did not affect my rating!) are very amusing. Rinyu has an interesting backstory, but it plays off against Hina’s Mao obsession wonderfully.
It also doesn’t hurt that Amanatsu takes the complete and utter piss out of the merchandise that Hina is after. His bitching about French fries is comedy gold. Amanatsu would be a lot further along if he could learn to keep his mouth shut.
The second arc in this volume follows an obnoxious streamer who happens to be a vampire and is super bad at the part where that’s supposed to be a secret. His attempts to suck Hina’s blood due to a case of mistaken hematological identity finally bring Amanatsu’s true feelings to the surface.
Hina falls for an obvious trap, which is believable since every time Mao gets mentioned she basically loses any semblance of common sense. The flip chart was a nice touch though. Of course, in the midst of this chaos it becomes very well-known that Amanatsu is extra delicious (this seems to be a common theme in Japanese vampire stories I’m reading).
Things go a little screwball at this point, with a ridiculous laundry detergent mishap and Viktor screaming mid-flight that balances nicely with the imminent danger to Amanatsu’s life. It’s not quite madcap, but close.
We’ll hold tight on the development that closes out this volume, although it makes sense. It’s mostly how much debasement it’s going to inflict on Amanatsu that I’m concerned about as that could get old fast.
Still, the rest of the volume is a bop and it breezes along with lots of enjoyable bits and plenty of charming romance. I wish the series hit these highs more consistently, but it’s great when it does.
4 stars - it’s just fun and sweet in almost all the right places. Nothing amazing, but a very worthwhile volume.
High 4 stars. This volume kept me entertained, though the lead guy is more and more 2D to me. Perhaps there will be more development in the next volume.
This one felt a little lite on overall plot. It was enjoyable though the romance is growing to feelings. The part where she is on her adventure with the voice actor was fun as well. I liked it but I am not sure where the story is going but it doesn't seem to be emotional damage so i am good.
Hehehe, I preordered so it would show up on my doorstep on release day! Totes worth it! This series is my life! Amanatsu is still hurling harsh words at Hina. But it's clear his real feelings for her are starting to shine through. They both care so deeply for each other, yet aren't 100% sure how to communicate that with each other yet. I really hope that Rinya and Hina can grow a good friendship and that he doesn't become an antagonist or anything. He seems like actually a good guy and I loved their chapter together.
Amanatsu is traumatised by the events of the previous volume when all the vampires in the club suddenly attacked him. He's cross with Hina too, and can't stand her talking about Mao. To cheer him up, she takes her to a zoo to hug a tiger cub. But it only helps so much, because they run into the voice actor of Mao there. And it's as I suspected in the previous volume.
A young vampire influencer is making videos where he brags about being vampire. He runs into Hina and Amanatsu, and like all vampires, is instantly drawn to the scent of Amanatsu's blood. When his videos spread, vampires all over the world start coming to Japan to have a taste of Amanatsu's blood. There's only one solution. Hina needs to make Amanatsu her servant by biting him. But she's reluctant to do so, in case it changes their relationship. Luckily, Victor has a solution. Not that Amanatsu is happy about it.
Great volume. The relationship with Hina and Amanatsu is in turmoil. We'll see where it leads to.
I received a free copy from Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review.
This volume bothered me with the final chapter. I don't think there's a lot of difference between one type of non-consent versus another and the biting thing has a long history in the vampire lore of being metaphorically for sex. Up until now the MC has protected him from other babies but the way they wrapped up this volume was a copout. Made me lose respect for the MC and lower my opinion for the series.
Not a full deal breaker so I'll give it one more chance with the next volume.
I love it! Hina is so cute and I understand her otaku obsession. Mine is kpop lol. She goes after what she wants , be it merchandise or tickets to something. Amanatsu always helps her out begrudgingly. I love them. This volume she meets the voice actor of her favorite vampire hero and they work together to get merch. Its so cute. There's more to him than meets the eye though! I can't wait for volume 6!
Poor Amanatsu is having a terrible time getting over the vampire attack of the previous volume. But after hugging the tiger and the events that come after he seems to be alright again. At least there is hope that he will figure out what Hina means to him sometime soon. Viktor is back by the end and I hope what we seen didn't really happen, I am figuring we will get recap in the next volume.
viktor my glorious king i've missed u but omg can poor amanatsu stop Going Trough It like every chapter 😭 hina was so, so beautiful in the filler-y, all over the place but still enjoyable volume. we keep going on so many random side quests i only hope that all these npc villains don't all team up against our mcs in a final showdown or sumtn 😭
This volume was pure joy to read! So many moments where both subtly thought of their feelings for the other (even if they're not truly romantic yet). Also, their banter kills me. She's so far into her otaku lifestyle that nothing outside of Mao, Viktor and her neighbor matter. He's so protective of her yet loves to talk trash, omg.
I just Hina would start acting more like a powerful vampire. Don’t get me wrong, I love her quirky, dorky, otaku nature but… Girl, please step up for Amanatsu.
I’d also like to see more development between Hina and Rinyu 👀 Okay, okay… I think Amanatsu and Hina are endgame but let me dream, okay!?
I just feel like Rinyu is too perfectly suited for Hina to be just a side character aaah…
I feel like I *want* to like this series much more than I do. The lackadaisical morality of the vampires, including the main characters, keeps really getting to me. I don’t know how much longer I can hang with this series.
